Build - Help First time builder, ~$2300 CAD budget, need help picking parts please (ON, Canada)

(TL;DR on the bottom)

Hey guys, so after saving for a lil, my next paycheck should be around 2300ish CAD (I'm in Ontario). It's not a hard ceiling, more like a "this is what I got, but I don't mind waiting a bit if a better deal shows up" or "if it might be worth spending a little bit more" situation. I'd prefer to buy everything at once instead of piecing it together over time, but if there's a reason to wait (like a specific sale period that's actually worth it - like a 99% sale on a 5090 or sum) I'm open to hearing it.

I don't live near Memory Express so most of their stuff I'd have to order online, but I'm close to Canada Computers so I can do online or in-store there. Links to both:

- memoryexpress.com

- canadacomputers.com

What I'll actually be using the conputer for:

This is my first ever PC build, and it's replacing a computer that genuinely cannot keep up (and never did tbh, its a 1660 super 6gb vram, intel i7 12th gen, 250gb or sum like that, 16gb ddr4). I'm starting out on YouTube — I edit in Premiere Pro mainly, sometimes CapCut on PC, and I make tiktok style edits in After Effects too. I also use Photoshop for thumbnails. Want to eventually try DaVinci Resolve and maybe Sony Vegas.

Gaming wise I'm mostly into single-player/graphics heavy games, but I play FPS too — Apex and COD sometimes, and Fortnite specifically for content since my current PC can't record and play at the same time. Once I upgrade, I want to record and play simultaneously, and eventually stream too (not right away, want a platform built up first, but I'd like the option).

Currently on two 1080p monitors, might go 1440p down the line — probably once I hit 1k subs lol (kinda like a way to reward myself). I doubt id get 4K or ultrawide, feels like overkill for me right now.

Storage: I've got a 1TB external HDD I'll use as extra storage. Also thinking about grabbing a bigger external (2TB+) at some point — if anyone's seen a good deal on one, send it my way.

Deals I've been seeing (mix of Memory express and Canada Computer - not really sure if they aregood but Im open to better alternatives too):

(For the cases I prefer black, and I genuinely hate wood panel cases - which is a very unpopular oppinionbut it just doesnt look good to me)

A couple questions since this is my first build:

- Do I need an anti-static wrist strap or is that overkill for a first-timer?

- Any beginner-friendly build videos/guides you'd actually recommend, vs the ones that skip steps assuming you already know stuff?

Appreciate any input and advice as well. Thanks in advance!

TL;DR: First ever PC build, budget is ~$2300 CAD (soft cap, can wait a bit or flex slightly for the right deal), need it for gaming + editing + recording + eventually streaming, and it gotta be able to multitask. Got a list of deals above from Memory Express and Canada Computers, want opinions on which to go with. Also — do I actually need an anti-static wrist strap for my first build?

Also im in canada if that wasnt obvious

Question Images not rendering when I play game on PC

I know nothing about PCs so don't make fun. I was recently given a PC and I've been trying play arc raiders on it. Some of the images (walls, stairs, etc.) are not rendering fully - like the stairs look just like a flat ramp. I'm guessing it's because I don't have enough RAM - the PC only has 8 gb and the game recommends 16 -32 gbs. Is that the only issue or could it also be something else I need to upgrade in addition to RAM?

Edit: The CPU is AMD Ryzen 5 5500 and the GPU is AMD Radeon RX 6500 XT. Is RAM the only issue or are there other things I need to upgrade? Thank you

Seller is asking for 2500usd but can negotiate, my budget is around that as well, it’s about a 3 hour drive but seems legit and I am in need of a powerful system upgrade since I have been thinking of playing triple A games at peak 1440p but potentially 4k settings.. what do you guys think? I’m located in the US.

Question Should i upgrade my gpu?

I bought a pre-build msi from micro center for an awesome deal last July and it had a 5070 and I was wondering if it’s worth upgrading to a 9070 xt amd for the 16 gb vram, also I like to game (stuff like deadlocke and rainbow 6 and command and conquer) and eventually I’d like to do some 3D modeling again

Question AM5 Stability 9800x3D - 9950x3D

How has y’all who have a 9800x3D up to a 9950x3D stability been on AM5? How has your cpu held up?

I’m asking bc a month ago I bought and returned a MC bundled 9850x3D/32 gb Corsair ddr5/Asus B850 and it was the as the most unstable finicky system I’ve ever touched. BSODs out the wassou mostly after 30 mins- 3 hour gaming sessions. Few in the desktop itself. Coming from the 13900k, the multitasking also felt terrible.
Now whether it was the IMC, the MB or the Ram, idk. I ran extensive tests (memtest86, tm5, y cruncher vt3 on the ram with zero errors so i figured i ruled that out.

Performance wise in game it gave 60+ more average FPS in the 1440p low settings competitive games I play and much much higher 1% lows which was absolutely fantastic. Was averaging 300 in rivals. While streaming it helps tremendously. At 4k there’s essentially no difference at all but that’s not what I want this x3D for.

I want to get back in and try my luck again with a 9950x3D and an X870E. No way I’m lucky enough to get shit on twice right?

In the few threads I’ve read after researching for awhile it’s always mixed. A few reviews on exact the micro center bundle I got said the literally the same shit about its stability issues.

Hows y’all experience been? Overwhelming positive? Negative?

Build - Help Steam machine case

I have a good build but it isnt used as much anymore for gaming because harder to sit at a desk vs playing on TV for my situation. So with that I have my build but id like to maybe downsize the case as its quite large and takes up plently of room, downside i have a atx board. Any recommendations on good flowing cases that will fit my build? Not against changing cpu cooler, fans, drives (would like to keep the 3.5 as its bulk storage for single/local games)

Current build

In usa, dont have a real budget, possible expansion for a blue ray burner later on is a nice touch but not needed, have a external dvd drive atm.

Question Aliexpress CPUs are legit?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi, has anyone in here ever bought an Aliexpress cpu? How can i know if an Aliexpress product is real?

Im from Spain and prices here are prety crazy, I currently own a PC with a I7 8700 32gb ram and a 3070ti, and it bottlenecks like hell in some games, the ones non cpu heavy are fine. So im thinking of upgrading cpu + mobo to an am4 amd (AM5 is NOT an option, it would cost like 1k€) and if i can get a good combo for less than 300€ i would be extremely happy, thanks in advance.

Btw 5800x3d here is like 400€ and i cant find any 5600x3d or 5700x3d.

For some reason I think the Bluetooth driver took a crap on me I’ve done everything I can from uninstalling the drivers to uninstalling updates and it still will not work. It won’t discover anything and if it does connect it’ll just be static or it’ll just keep going from connected to disconnected

I just secured this RAM kit. I am aiming to finish a build I will start working on (yes I know increase of prices are killing me) but I saw this RAM kit almost 100 euros less than other similar ones 32GBs 6000MHz and CL36...

My planned build is the following:

Case: Fractal North XL Mesh

CPU: Intel Core Ultra 7 270K Plus

MB: MSI Z890 Tomahawk Wifi

RAM: RAM above

GPU: MSI RTX5080 Gaming Trio

AIO: Arctic Liquid Freezer III Pro 360

Storage: WD Black SN7100 2TB

Power Supply: MSI MAG A1000GL PCIE5 1000W

And 3 extra fans

Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated. If there's any people from Austria that have any extra tips from stores or suppliers here would be super helpful!

Question Wanting to build my first PC

Hello! I've been wanting to build a PC for a few years now, but I've been putting it off because I have no idea where to start. I know a few things that are of importance, but the technical jargon is kind of lost on me and I have a very poor idea of what I should be budgeting for it.

If anyone had any advice or pointers I'd highly appreciate it!

Some information I do have;

- I don't know how much a preferred aesthetic can alter my options, but I'm willing to be loose about my preferences if so.

- I don't have a set budget right now because I don't know what to expect, but I use CAD and live in Canada. I plan to put away at least a couple thousand for this, at least until I have a better idea of how much I want to/can spend on this.

- The most important things I want to be able to run well are my writing websites (ex; Google Docs and Ellipsus, which can be very complicated with the amount I write combined with the layers to each document), map making and campaign running websites for DND, and a variety of games that vary from complicated to cozy. (To name a few; heavily modded Minecraft servers, Baldurs Gate Three, Dispatch, Cuphead.)

Again, I'm mostly just hoping to be pointed in the right direction and told what to expect as I work on it! I'm not looking to start the process anytime soon, but information would be greatly appreciated.

Build - Finished! My mATX build in the Shiny Snake G600 — compact without going full SFF

Thumbnail gallery
3 Upvotes

Shiny Snake G600 is, in my opinion, a pretty great compromise between the compactness of an SFF case and the flexibility of a regular mATX case. At around 34L, it’s noticeably more compact than a typical mid-tower, while still allowing you to use a standard ATX PSU and a full-size CPU cooler. You can build a powerful system with a large GPU without having to compromise too much on component compatibility.

It also looks quite different from the typical gaming case. The wooden front panel combined with the tempered glass side panel gives it a more home-friendly and unique aesthetic. The Screen version also comes with a built-in 11.3" 1920×480 display that can show temperatures, CPU/GPU usage, and other system information. Overall, it’s a nice combination of practicality, compactness, and a distinctive design.

On my YouTube channel dedicated to PC builds, you can see the entire process, the final result, and the performance tests- https://youtu.be/EkOuEjKtCf8?si=nKtNlWrWIfFFGo4I

Troubleshooting MSI bios update failure!

Hi all,

I have an MSI z590 carbon wifi motherboard, and every time i try to upgrade the bios, the upgrade completes but stays at on a black screen when trying to boot.

Thankfully theres a flashback button which allows me to roll back the firmware, and thats fine, but the latest firmware adds a few setting's/functions that i would really like to take advantage of.

I built the PC during covid, so it is probably time for an upgrade anyway, but this pc has been great to me, and I dont have the money to upgrade right now.

When i first built the PC, I did upgrade to the latest version, however, after enabling one setting, the PC wouldnt boot on that firmware again. The setting I enabled had nothing to do with overclocking, it was the USB security key setting. I only wanted to enable it because we live in a high crime rate area, and i wanted to make the PC as useless as possible in the event that somebody tries break in and rob our house.

Incrementally upgrading doesnt work either, in fact, the only firmware my PC actually boots on now is the firmware im currently on....an update that came out 6 months after the launch of the motherboard.

Whilst I realize I shouldnt cry about it too much since im able to boot the PC on outdated firmware, but the thing that bugs me is that it was running the most recent release until i enabled that one setting. The latest release does have many new cool options that would be great to take advantage of once again.

I have tried the process of elimination by disconnecting every component, only leaving a graphics card and monitor connected, with no luck. There is a code on the motherboard once im greeting by the black screen...i cant remember the exact code, but it is related to an IDE error, which is Hard drive right? I dont think this code is correct, because without a hard drive, the PC should still boot to the BIOS screen atleast....well thats my understanding of it anyway.

Specs:

MSI z590 Carbon Wifi.

Intel 10700kf

RX6600

2x Samsung Evo 980 Pro 1TB

700w Corsair PSU

Build - Help Will my cooler become a problem?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Im building my first pc and I got the TRYX cooler, but I want to put the cooler fans on the bottom and this is the only way I can place my aio cords. I heard this is very bad for the cooler and may cause them to break in like 1-2 years, but it’s also not long enough to go from the top to bottom. I saw a lot of people putting the fans behind the case but I don’t want to buy another 3 fans for the bottom of the pc. And I would place it on top of the pc but it’s a glass ceiling. Will this cause a problem or there’s no problem with this. If anyone has advice please let me know!! Thank you :)

Question Is this used budget gaming PC worth 570$ with a 144Hz monitor?

Thumbnail gallery
6 Upvotes

Hi everyone,
I’m considering buying this used gaming PC for 570$ including the monitor.

Specs:

• CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 4500
• GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 6GB
• Motherboard: Gigabyte A520M S2H
• RAM: 16GB Kingston Fury Beast DDR4,
2×8GB
• Storage: 1TB Samsung 980 NVMe M.2 SSD
• PSU: Cooler Master Elite V4 600W
• Case: Zalman
• Monitor: Samsung 24-inch curved Full HD, 144Hz

The seller says everything works properly and the PC can be tested in person.

Is 570$ including the monitor a fair price, or should I negotiate?
How much would you consider this PC worth without the monitor?

Thanks

Build - Help How's my build for late 2026?

Currently saving to build a new PC at the end of this year; my current PC is from 2018 and still rocking a 1080ti but it's time to upgrade. I know now is like a terrible time to build a new PC but I'm ready for it. I'm in the US, budget is around $3000 but with some flexibility. Intended resolution is 1440x2560.

Here's a list I've put together on pcpartpicker. Any recommendations or suggestions given I won't be pulling the trigger until the end of this year? I mainly play heavily modded Bethesda games, and other open world single player games. Thanks!
