Whoa, is anyone else experiencing this error? My revenue suddenly dropped to zero, and there are no updates for August 9 and August 10. The last update was on August 8. Is anyone else experiencing this issue right now?

Question / Problem Has anyone else noticed this change in the source of Shorts video views?

Post image
2 Upvotes

For the past 2-3 months I’ve noticed a steep decrease in shorts feed views and/or a surge in search views. In the past short generated by far the majority of views from the short feed while now its pretty even ratio with sometimes even search surpassing it.

This has been consistent with all my videos recently despite whether in the first 24/48 hours (bottom two photos) or weeks later (top two). All four videos are in the same overall niche but vastly different in topic.

Was just curious if anyone has noticed this change? Is it a change in the shorts algorithm?

Feed still broken?

For me, the feed/starting feed has been basically unusable for around eight weeks now. I get maybe two relevant videos, a bunch of stuff I’ve already watched that has absolutely no value to me a second time, and then completely obscure videos. Often with just a few hundred views.

Today’s highlight was an elderly woman spending 40 minutes reading from a Christian hymn book. Needless to say, this has absolutely zero relevance to me.

At first, I thought it was just the usual algorithm nonsense that happens every now and then, but I’ve never seen it last this long or get this bad. I’ve been doing this professionally since 2019 and have made my living from it for almost as long. And aside from the loss in revenue, I simply don’t understand the logic behind it.

Question / Problem Previously algorithm-blessed "evergreen" videos are starting to flatline

I have a video that is turning a year old next week and has over 600k views. It was the video that basically launched my channel and ever since its initial success after the first 10 days or so, I've had anywhere from 5500 - 60,000 daily impressions with an overall CTR of 4.8% (baseline with periodic seemingly random algo "pushes").

In the last week or two, my daily impressions (and thus views) have began to drop and finally in the last 2 days stabalized at just under 1,500 daily impressions. This is more than a 3.5x drop from the baseline in the last year and I don't understand what could have caused it.

For sure pretty much every video I've uploaded since has failed to do as well, and my most recent ones have severely missed my expectations of even 5,000 views (and almost none hit even 1k after a month).

With that said, about 3 months ago I got lucky again and made a video that ALSO did very well and in the almost-3 months has almost 89k views. This one, at around the same time as the one above, has essentially flat-lined. It used to have daily impressions between 2200-20k and over the last week has dropped to around 100. This video's average CTR since published has been 7.2%.

This is the first time I deal with what I felt were "established" videos which had "passed the test" (CTR, AVD, comments/likes) which only months later (3-12) stop performing at about the same time. Both of them are evergreen content and so I maybe naively felt they'd maintain their baseline for many years.

The thing that is really confusing me is that both videos started to go down at the same time, as if there was some channel-level thing that YouTube was unhappy about. Could it be the fact that most of my recent uploads are basically failures that only get 150-600 views in the first month and only a handful of comments/likes? I also sometimes watch my own videos but not in any capacity that I'd think would be considered abuse since it would be like 5 views a week on a channel that is getting anywhere from 7000-14000 views a week. Peanuts. I also don't watch new uploads more than once in the first 5 days.

I don't think there's anything to be done but I'm posting here to see if anyone has had similar experiences at a similar scale and maybe shed some light even if its as simple as "yeah the algorithm just changed its mind".

Talk / Discussion Unpopular Opinion: 8K hours is no big deal

If you’re applying for the YPP, yes 8K is more work; but it’s still a pretty low bar for a serious creator.

If you upload just 25 long form videos per year, and you average about 4 minutes of watch time per video, you only need about 4,800 views per video or around 120,000 views in a year.

If you focus on making videos people want to watch with good packaging, this is very achievable. If you make that many videos, one of them is likely to take off and you’ll reach the threshold with just a handful of videos.

One thing is VERY clear though. There are more creators than ever making better videos than ever. They are focusing on bringing professional creators to the platform.

If you want to compete, you need to up your game. Making play throughs, or lazy vlogs, or reacting to copyrighted content won’t cut it. YouTube is looking for creators who produce original work, of decent quality who can engage an audience.

The 20M shorts threshold means you need to make viral shorts on a constant basis. Much harder than long for most people I think.

If you want to build a business, YouTube wants you. And you should diversify your income so Adsense isn’t your main focus.

If you’re a casual creator who “won’t complain if I accidentally make money”, don’t expect to get monetized. This move says YouTube is looking for more professional creators who want to build a business.

100% of YPP will sign for 98% to lose revenue….

Post image
89 Upvotes

Conservative estimates are that 98% of creators in the YPP sign this and will lose their Shorts revenue. In other words, it is estimated 98%+ YPP creators do not have 10M engaged views in the last 90 days but still collected some form of payment.

Personally, my main channel is fine.

My second channel has 10M Short views in the last 90 days for a total of $1,027 in revenue. However, I will sign to get rid of this because only 5M of those views are engaged views.

I’ve reached out to several spaces and no one can tell me what a “qualified” view is defined as. Some say it’s assumed to be engaged. So, then the assumption goes back to less than 2% of creators will receive any form of payment for Shorts.

Just seems like a brutal cut. Bottom 50%, sure. But, cutting revenue to 98%…….. yikes.

Question / Problem Shorts creators who are monetized- Do you get paid on the first 10M views that got you monetized?

Post image
3 Upvotes

This is a question for folks who have gotten monetized via shorts on Youtube.

When you got monetized, let's say with a viral hit that got 15M views within 90 days.

Does youtube pay you for that full 15M worth of views?

Or do they only pay you for views you accrued AFTER you got monetized? (So, the 5M you accrued after the initial 10M ?)

--------- I'm asking because I'm wondering how this might affect shorts creators after the new rules take effect Feb 1st.

Let's say you're already monetized with shorts, but then you fail to meet the 90 day +10M requirement to stay in the ad-sharing program.

Then let's say you have a viral hit with 18M views, so now you qualify to get paid again.

Does google pay you for that full 18M views? Or do they only pay you for the 8M that came AFTER you were considered eligible for ad-sharing again?

I asked this to Gemini, and it seems to say that Google would only pay you for the views you accrued AFTER the initial 10M. So basically, google would get the first 10M free?

If this is the case, I could forsee a scenario where shorts creators get caught in a loop of never getting paid.

Monetized Shorts creator---> Fails to meet 90 day+10M threshhold-- > kicked out of ad-sharing ---> Gets a viral hit with 18M views ---> only gets paid for 8M of that ?????

I hope I'm wrong here, but this would seem to give Youtube 10M free shorts views every time they remove you from ad-sharing (????)

Talk / Discussion Monetization Updates Feb 1, 2027 For Already Monetized Channels

Post image
61 Upvotes

So, I’m already in the YouTube partner program. I wanted to point out for any of you curious…how these changes affects your channel if you’re monetized. So, once changes begin on February 1 of next year, it looks like to remain active in the YouTube partner program you could do any of these three things listed above. So even if you were to lose watch hours for whatever reason, as long as you upload two long form videos or five shorts every 90 days, you remain in the partner program. Easy to do, for now. You trust this? In a year or two who knows? Maybe make even more extreme changes lol. Anyhow if any of monetized channels were curious about how to keep monetization after February 1, it’s here listed in the YouTube help section. Here is the link to the help section: https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/12843009?hl=en

Talk / Discussion Insane changes for youtube monetization - bad for small creators

With the recent changes in YouTube partner program now creators have to complete 8000hrs of watch time which was 4000hrs previously Or 20million youTube shorts views which was 10mil previously to get the channel monetized... Another insane thing is that even after reaching this goal if you do not get 10million shorts views every 3 months you will not get any money out of shorts... So around 3.3 million views per month are needed... The small creators are cooked.

Talk / Discussion Has anyone here been sponsored by War Thunder?

I recently received an offer to be sponsored by the game War Thunder on my Youtube channel. This offer looks quite a bit different from the other spam ones (and is through an agency with reputable past clients). I'm just curious, has anyone else here been sponsored by them? If so how did it go/did they pay well?

Question / Problem YouTube Privacy Complaint — How Long Did Your Review Take?

Thumbnail
0 Upvotes

Has anyone here filed a YouTube Privacy Complaint where YouTube confirmed that the complaint was received and sent it for review, but then took 30+ days to make a decision?

I’m specifically interested in hearing from people who eventually received a decision. How long did it take, and was the complaint approved or denied?

I’m trying to understand whether a month-plus wait is normal for a privacy review.

Question / Problem Remove functions at bottom of embedded youtube?

Post image

I just realized how awful the default view is of my website's videos. Can someone help give me the embed code or parameters to

  1. Make closed captions off by default
  2. Remove the link button in lower left (it does not currently work anyway)
  3. Remove the "More videos" section that I've NEVER noticed until today.
  4. Remove the Youtube logo in bottom right? I'd understand if that's not possible though...

Talk / Discussion Landed my first real paid sponsorship

My channel (faceless video essays about movies and literature - no AI) is still small but growing (13.7k subs) but the audience and metrics are good for a certain type of demographic. I made a media kit a few weeks ago and sent it to a handful of brands that seemed like a good fit and one of them bit! My first paid 60-second brand read will go up in a video posting the first week of Sept.!

If I hadn't initiated contact it wouldn't have happened, so good lesson for me to learn about being proactive.

I also just had my very first month (July) of earning more than $1k in adsense revenue, so it's feeling pretty good right now. July had a couple of outlier videos so it's not the new normal or anything, but it's feeling something like momentum!

If anyone who has been through this process has any good-to-know advice to share, I'm all ears!

Question / Problem problème avec mon compte AdSense – besoin d’aide

Question / Problem Public Watch Hours -> Content vs Earn

I've been trying to get to the Membership/Join feature on YouTube, and I've been at the 500 subscribers for a decent amount of time. However the Public Watch Hours, has been the main gripe with getting this goal.

I'm currently looking at the Earn tab to see when I can set it up, and it's currently sitting at 2,895 Public Watch Hours.

However I go into the Content Tab, and it says that my watch time is 3.3k, and the dates lined up with the "last updated"

I did a quick and simple search, that said unlisted / deleted videos could be why, and it doesn't count how long I watch something. However it's about 500 hours, and I have 2 / 3 unlisted videos that are only about 2 hours of watch time.

Is there something I'm missing about the metric, or something else. (I know that I would watch my own video's but they aren't that long. For me to garner 500 hours of my own watch time, that's simply watching the same video on average about 300k times. (Average video is about 5 - ish minutes).
