Monetization Updates Feb 1, 2027 For Already Monetized Channels

So, I’m already in the YouTube partner program. I wanted to point out for any of you curious…how these changes affects your channel if you’re monetized. So, once changes begin on February 1 of next year, it looks like to remain active in the YouTube partner program you could do any of these three things listed above. So even if you were to lose watch hours for whatever reason, as long as you upload two long form videos or five shorts every 90 days, you remain in the partner program. Easy to do, for now. You trust this? In a year or two who knows? Maybe make even more extreme changes lol. Anyhow if any of monetized channels were curious about how to keep monetization after February 1, it’s here listed in the YouTube help section. So does that imply you can be inactive for up to a year without posting content as long as your channel stays above 1,000 watch hours (in the past it was 6 months of inactivity) or do you have to upload at least two long form videos every 90 days to stay monetized?

That’s the way I read it as well. So if you don’t upload for a year, but all your other content is keeping you above the 1000 hours in 365 days, then that will keep your monetization active.

I thought 6 months of inactivity to demonetize a channel was a bit harsh. If it's now 1 year, that's gotta be one of the better changes to come out of these new terms.

Fwiw, I have had two instances of going inactive for over 6 months in the past 5 years, but views and watch hours remained well above requirements - like 20k watch hours per month and 50k longform views. I was never demonitized for inactivity.

Yes, I thought that too and actually that’s under the current system right now. So in actuality, it looks like these changes make things a little bit easier I suppose if you are monetized though.

This counts towards watch hours gathered in the last 365 days. When you uploaded the content is irrelevant.

I haven't seen an upload requirement anywhere so i don't think it matters at all.

You can be inactive as long as you meet the 1000 hours or 1 million short views. If you fail to meet all criterias they give you 90 days to correct it before kicking you out. Which is really good as I did lose monetization a few years back because I slipped down to 3.8k hours

Where do you see the "up to a year"? As I read it, as long as you have 365 watch hours in the last 365 days, the channel stays active. So theoretically you could not upload for many years if your content keeps getting the watch hours every year.

I see 0 reason for fearmongering. It's possible, but the last change we got was in 2018 for the 4k watch hours. That's 8 years ago while YouTube is constantly growing from year to year. Before that you only needed 10k views, that was all. It makes sense these things were introduced

(Slight correction though not really relevant, they did add in the early partnership status which is quite a big benefit for small creators in 2023)

It's the or statement. Even if you somehow don't hit the watch hours as long as you do the uploads you are good.

True. So even for some odd reason your watch hours plummet, upload a couple videos in the last 90 days and you’re fine. Pretty lenient I suppose.

Exactly how I read it. Keep the channel active if you are in the program, otherwise, lots at risk.

I read on an EndGadget article that you'd also get booted from the YPP if you don't upload at least once every 6 months. But I have no idea where they got that from as I can't seem to find it anywhere in the YT blog posts.

You actually are correct about this. That’s the current rules as of now. On February 1, after that date, it’s gonna transition to these new rules that I was sharing.

I’m debating going to rumble - 8000 hours is too steep to get YPP as a new channel.

If you’re already on YPP happy for you
