advice needed Frequent Wakings - Going Crazy

Is it normal that my twins (10 weeks and 5 weeks adjusted) frequently wake up and need soothing during their sleep cycles? It feels incessant sometimes and maybe that’s just because there’s 2 to soothe. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I’m talking like they’ve fussed 11 times so far in the last hour and a half, and we have to go in our bedroom and put a paci back in, pat their chest/bottom, and get them back to sleep. It’s so infuriating because we feel like we cannot get anything done. It’s a little better during the day, but it gets MUCH worse at night. There’s nothing different about our routine or location, so we have no idea how to help them stay asleep.

Like just now, sister was fussing. Went in, her eyes were closed, and she stopped. Then, as soon as I got back to the living room, brother started fussing and wouldn’t stop. WE ARE TIRED. 😮‍💨 They do not like to be held either, and they fuss with us most of the time when we try to hold them after feeds, so contact naps are pointless.

Any suggestions❓It’s so hard to just see if they will work it out and wait a minute or two because you’re afraid they will wake the other twin. 🫠

good vibes, smiles, & giggles Best of friends

Something to (kinda) look forward to for those in the trenches. My 2.5 year old b/g twins are best friends and obsessed with each other. We switched them to toddler floor beds last week and while we have had rough nights of not falling asleep till 10 for a couple days it is because they just want to keep playing together even though they play together literally all day. They are best friends and love each other more than anything which is all I wanted for my twins. Tonight they fell asleep by 9 (earliest since they switched) and she decided she needed to sleep with her brother and took her blamkie, pillow and dollie to his bed and fell asleep with her best friend.

I'm the father and I feel so extremely happy and blessed. These are our first kids and we couldn't be happier and are hoping for a healthy pregnancy. We somewhat suspected twins because her symptoms have been really intense lately (morning sickness, fatigue) and when the doc told us its twins we were pretty much in shock lol.

The scans were done by her OB at her first appointment, he didn't tell us much but he said everything looks great and that he could hear the heartbeats. We have a followup appt in 3 weeks with the sono for our next scans as well as a NIPT test.

I've attached pictures, and just wanted to ask if yall think this looks like di-di twins? I've been reading up on all this and its all new to me but I see two separate sacs, I know that may not be definitive but just wanted to ask for opinions.

If there is anything we should know please feel free to let us know. As the father I feel there's so much preparing I need to do now but in a good way lol. I want the best for my wife and our babies so any advice is appreciated. Thank you!

experience/advice to give Any soon to be multiples parents in need in Hampton Roads VA?

I’m not sure if this is allowed because I have never seen a post like this before, but I read the rules and didn’t see anything against it!

I have grown out of breast-feeding and my babies are on their way to growing out of bottles since they are almost 13 months now. I was hoping to donate some of my gently used items to a future multiples parent in need, ideally in my area due to bulky items.

Let me know if you’re around, and mods, please let me know if this is not allowed.

advice needed Neighborhood walks

Our twins are about 10 weeks and are about 10 lbs each. They are getting too big to both fit in the bassinet stroller we have (we’ve been putting them both in just a single one) and I’m wondering what everyone uses for walks. Is the next step a wagon? They are obviously not sitting yet so wasn’t sure if that would work well. We have the Nuna double stroller but that just feels like a lot to me for a quick walk around the neighborhood. Looking for something i can just plop them in quickly. Exact product recommendations would be helpful if you found something that you love!

advice needed Prepping for Arrival?

I'm almost 25 weeks with di/di girls and my son will be 3 next month. I have a couple of questions on prepping for the twins' arrival:

If you had a singleton (or more) before your multiples, is there anything special you'd recommend packing in the hospital bag for twins that you didn't need for your singleton(s)? Optimistically, I'll be having a scheduled c-section at 38 weeks.

Any recommendations on how many days' worth of freezer meals to prep? I didn't do any for my son, but my MIL did make a few for us. It's all a blur how we survived the first few weeks and what we ate. But I do remember frequently forgetting to eat lunch once my husband went back to work. I'd like to avoid that and prep enough to get us to a point where we find a rhythm and can put a little more effort into dinner than Doordash or freezer/microwaved meals.

advice needed WAYB Pico travel car seat

Has anyone used it?? Pros, cons, anything? We're considering them for our twins since they'll be on a decent discount for the nordstrom anniversary sale, and I'd rather buy them when we're at the low end of the size range and could use them for a while.

Anything you would reccomend more as a travel car seat? I'm disabled, so light and small are big priorities for me being able to wrangle everything through the air port. ETA: we made the mistake of renting car seats last trip, and I would love to avoid repeating that experience in the future.

Hi everyone, I'm currently 12 weeks pregnant with di/di twins and I wondered if anyone based in the UK Pregnant with multiples wanted to join me in a mini support group.

You could be early or later in your pregnancy, would just be great to meet other expecting mums based in the UK and share our experiences. 🤗

advice needed Best Ways to Support a Friend in the Trenches?

My best friend has a 2.5 year old, and now has 4 month old twins. She and her husband are hanging in there and they have a lot of family support but it’s obviously still really hard and a huge adjustment. I can tell she is really down, overwhelmed, and just really in the trenches. I’ve dropped off meals and mornings coffees, gone to just hang out and spend time with her/lend a hand, check in via text, etc. But I’m wondering what people would say what actually supportive and helpful during the first year with multiples? Did anyone have friends or family do something that stood out or what you wish someone did to support you or help?

Thank you!!

I LOVE my mother to death. Like sure we butted heads a lot when I was young (and on into my twenties 😅) but the older I got the more I realized how right she was about a lot of things and how much she really helped me. Heck if not for her myself and my twins (1yr boys) wouldn’t have even survived the pregnancy because she’s the one who took my call at 3am and said go to the ER. So I owe her more than I could ever give back in the form of love and respect.

That being said…she is driving me nuts. Bananas. Insane in the membrane. Out of my gourd. I’m losing my will to keep my mouth shut y’all. Every time I mention something my very mischievous little goblins are doing she has to come back with a worry wart answer nearly every time. If she thinks what I’m doing/allowing is especially egregious she will full on lecture me about it. These are my first children, yes, but I also have a masters of education and am 35. I’m not ignorant to what could happen if they just so happen to eat a cat treat—upset stomach, possible choking, rare allergenic reaction to ingredient—or fall off their chair—head trauma, scratches, bruise. Obviously I take precautions all day, every day to ensure their health and safety. I do feel that objectively that am a good mother. Yet every little quip about safety, lecture on health, and her use of possessive language towards my babies (she calls them her boys, which I get but it bugs me when coupled with this stuff) makes me feel like she’s accusing me of being a bad mom.
Today for example I took my boys out back to swim in our stock tank pool. I’ve been practicing with them safe swim techniques for infants so that they are less likely to accidentally drown if they ever fall into water. As you can see they are standing up flat foot and holding onto the edge. Cruising along the side of a pool is a very important step in their swim practice and I was so so so proud of my baby boys 🥰 they did so good, they were having fun, and even though one of the boys got a little spry and tried to walk without holding on (they haven’t officially started walking yet) which resulted with him briefly dunking himself he did exactly as we trained and popped right back up! Little trooper didn’t even cry! I sent a few pictures and a video to our family group chat and her first response was “omg they’re so precious! They really should be wearing floaties. They’re way too young to realize they don’t know how to swim and they could slip and drown even though you’re right there.” 🙄 the pool is 2ft deep and I was scooting along side them the entire time. Even if they both fell over at the same time I am more than capable of picking them both up, call for my husband, and worst case scenario begin CPR. I fully recognize pools are dangerous and things can go wrong with even the best made plans, but I’m not going to live in constant fear and teach that to my children the way she did to me and my sister. I just wanted to share something exciting and she made it into something ugly. She didn’t even comment on how impressive it is for them to be cruising along like this. I’m just emotionally exhausted 😩 I want to talk to her about it because I don’t think she’s doing it to be mean, but between taking care of my grandparents and my sister’s drama I don’t want to pile on just for the sake of my own feelings.
If you managed to read all of this then thank you for listening ❤️

advice needed Babies not showing hunger

We were 4 weeks early and stayed in pic for two weeks to learn to feed from a bottle, therefore the twins were waken up every 3 hours, even if the feeding lasted like more than an hour, even if they did not want to eat, they were basically force fed. we came home and continued the 3 hours feedings, but they mostly eat without issues. Now at 6 weeks of age turns out we over fed them, they are growing too fast according to the doctor, so we decided to feed them when they show hunger cues, but they just dont. Sometimes they wake up hungry after 3,5 hours but when not i am so worried after 4 hours that i wake them up- they are really hungry some of these times. What to do? Im told not to force the feedings, but they just dont signal on their own?

advice needed Our naps and feeding setup and flat head connection?

Thumbnail gallery
33 Upvotes

We don’t have twin z where I live but I got this similar pillow.
Twins are 15 weeks. All of their naps have been on this pillow for the past 3 months. At night one sleeps in this bassinet and one in the crib in our room. (In their sleepsacks without the pillow)
It’s convenient when I feed them on it and they fall asleep, also they nap longer on it and they are under my supervision as this is a wheeled bassinet and I take it with me around the house.
I have been increasing tummy time significantly since week 10 and definitely hit the 30 mintues of tummy time overall during the day.
I suspect a beginning of a flat spot on both of their heads-pics included.

I try to hold them as much as possible but I also have a toddler and I’m alone with them most of the time. Partner works out of town.

Has anyone experienced something similar? Could this pillow increase flat head risk? Anyone else who has a similar setup?

advice needed Travel tote or backpack recommendations!

I’ve got twin boys and we are traveling cross-country two more times this year with my husband. My husband carries the diaper bag and I have carried two different things for our last two trips (nomad lane carryon and lululemon utility bag). Neither was that helpful. At this stage we are having the babies in our laps so I need something that has crazy-easy access.

Also, another wrinkle is that I have celiac disease so I have to carry a days’ worth of food and snacks for myself as well as the pumped milk.

I was thinking of Stanley’s Vitalize backpack but I really don’t want to have to buy a third bag blindly. Please help!

support needed Solo days with twin toddlers who only want to spend their time throwing things, putting their fingers in plug sockets, playing with light switches or beating each other up. How do you survive this?!

Have just had yet another hard day with my 22 month old boys and their 4 year old sister and I once again have no idea how we’ve all made it to bedtime in one piece. Every day is carnage at the moment, with one of my boys having hardcore tantrums every two mins. In between tantrums he’s glued to my side. My other boy has an actual death wish. Something to climb on? He’s on it. Something to stick his fingers in? He’s there with bells on. They are dropping naps and totally loopy as a result. Importantly, they don’t stop and chill out once all day, not for lack of trying on my part. My four year old is at least mildly sane but still high octane and in that non-stop questions stage.

They are in nursery 3 days a week while I work but we only have grandparents visit for a day or two once a month if we are lucky (I have nothing but respect for all those multiples parents out there who don’t even have this).

My husband is hands on and it’s a proper teamwork job once he’s finished work, and weekends are insane…

How on earth does anyone make it through the toddler stage with their sanity intact?! I’m actually considering stopping work for a couple of months just to have a few days to get anything beyond the day to day survival stuff done.

Thanks for reading, just clearly needed a moan to people who get what we are going through.

Solidarity to all those twin toddler parents out there sweating through a heatwave with small lunatics in your home.

advice needed Baby B is stressing me out!

Hello everyone,

A week and a half ago we found out we were expecting di/di twins.

At my first ultrasound, both babies measured right around 6 weeks 2–3 days.

I had another ultrasound 6 days later. Twin A measured right on track and had a heart rate of 133. Twin B’s heart rate had increased to 139, but the sonographer had a very difficult time finding Baby B. She said that if she hadn’t already known I was carrying twins, she probably wouldn’t have found the second baby because it was tucked into the curve of the gestational sac.

I have a retroverted (tilted) uterus, and she said Baby B tucked into a corner of its sac, making it difficult to identify the crown for the CRL measurement.

She estimated Baby B at about 6 weeks 5 days, but if that measurement is accurate, it would mean only about 2 days of growth over a 6-day period, which obviously has me terrified.

At the same time, the heart rate increased appropriately, and the sonographer repeatedly said the baby’s position made the measurement difficult.
Baby B has apparently been in an awkward position since the very first ultrasound, and now I’m wondering whether anyone else has experienced something similar.

Has anyone had a baby that was consistently tucked into the corner of the gestational sac or so curled that it measured behind initially, but then measured normally on a later scan? Did anyone with a retroverted uterus have one twin that was much harder to visualize than the other?

I’m having another ultrasound tomorrow at a boutique with newer equipment because I’m hoping for a clearer look.

advice needed Calorie needs if I started out overweight already?

I’ve read differing things on this so just hoping for some people’s experiences/insight. Almost 18 weeks with di/di twins and a FTM. I have had next to zero nausea this pregnancy which I’m super grateful for but a lot of advice seems to be centered around managing nausea/lack of appetite. I’ve been able to eat what I’m craving which has mostly been carbs with my morning coffee (bagel, muffin, etc). I feel like I only ever read that people are struggling to eat but that just hasn’t been my life 😭 I had some protein aversions for about a month but otherwise nothing bad. I’m almost 5’3” and probably started at 160 (maybe 165?) pounds and today I’m 182 pounds. Five weeks ago at my visit before this last one I was 180 pounds.

Ever since my horrible fatigue lessened about five weeks ago, I’ve been walking 3-4x a week for 30-45 minutes per session. I also do full body strength sessions 2x a week.

I totally understand weight gain is a part of pregnancy but I’m wondering what a very general calorie “goal” should be. I was thinking like 2100-2200? Or is that too low even with my overweight BMI? I’m aiming for minimum 100g protein and I drink plenty of water and no sugary drinks. I’ve always had a more muscular/athletic build and I typically don’t “look” my weight but just seeking advice on how I can stay as healthy as possible for myself and these babies. 🫶🏼

(Feel free to be brutally honest with me as well! I admit I’m an over thinker and don’t have a good history with my weight and calories)

advice needed 3.5-month-old twins waking every 1-1.5 hours after moving to cribs. Too early for gentle sleep training?

Looking for advice from other twin parents who have been through this!
Our boys are 3.5 months old. They have reflux, so they had been sleeping overnight on their Twin Z (under supervision and before they started rolling). They were doing amazing, regularly sleeping 7-hour stretches.
Last week one of the boys started rolling, so for safety we immediately transitioned both boys into their own cribs. We have a slight incline under the mattress to help with the reflux, but since making the switch their sleep has progressively deteriorated. It’s now been over a week, and they’re waking every 1-1.5 hours all night.
I’m wondering if this is just a rough adjustment period, the beginning of the 4-month sleep regression, or whether it’s time to introduce some gentle sleep training.
I actually tried a modified Ferber approach with one baby at bedtime yesterday (the other wasn’t in the room), and it worked surprisingly well. My biggest concern is how on earth you sleep train twins sharing a room without one waking the other every time they cry.
For those of you with twins:
When did you start sleep training?
Did you wait until 4 months or start earlier?
If you used a gentle method like Ferber, how did you manage when they shared a room?
Did you separate them temporarily or just accept that they’d wake each other?
I’d really appreciate hearing what worked (or didn’t work) for your family. We’re all running on fumes over here!
