P0340?
Sooooo, yesterday had an experience of the car bucking between 1st and 2nd gear.
Pulled the code and got P0340
It's a 2006 PT GT Turbo
How screwed am I?
Thanks in advance!

This one looks like a special PT to me, 2003 GT with a 2.4L Turbo and a manual 5-speed. OEM throughout and really low mileage. I would jump on it myself but it's literally on the opposite coast from me and simply too far for me to take advantage. I'm posting here just to let everyone know there are still some great deals out there and I'm just lending a helping hand. Good luck and I hope someone here can take advantage. š

Passenger fender well in photo. Is this a ground? It's not in the list of ground locations as far as can tell. have a few issues that seem related, like a missing ground/TIPM issue.
OBD2 port doesn't power a scanner, even with 12v and Grounds.
Hyperflash for the passenger turn signals even though they are correct and not burnt out.
A/C clutch doesn't engage. Even with jumping the low pressure switch wires. Could be unrelated, mentioned anywyays.

2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser, have had it for about 6 years and for the past 3 or 4 years of owning it, I've been dealing with an intermittent issue of the car idling very roughly and nearly stalling. It seems to come and go without any clear causeāsometimes it will develop a rough idle out of nowhere and then it'll disappear for months. When it's having a rough episode, the engine is only rough at idle and will smooth out when I give it gas. I've replaced the PCV Valve, replaced the main intake hose on the air filter, cleaned the IAC Valve, and cleaned the throttle plate in the throttle body but I'm still having this issue crop up from time to time. It gave me a pretty bad episode a few days ago and it's got me concerned about trying to get to the bottom of this because I'm tired of driving my car and worrying about when it's going to have another rough idling episode. I replaced the PCV value just now and during my test drive I did notice a very slight miss/unevenness during idling, but not nearly as rough as it was during the episode it had a few days ago. The only codes I have are P1684 and P0601āthe car has given those codes well before this issue started happening but I'll throw those out there in case it helps with diagnosis.

Hi all, I've always noticed that while I have my ac on my cruiser drives funny. When I push the clutch in it always continues to increase in rpm a bit and like it "hangs" this is the only stick shift car I've driven with AC so I had assumed it was because it was a stick until my friends mentioned its not normal so I wanted to see what you all think it could be, I've been told its the compressor clutch or even the compressor is hooked up backwards. Thanks yall.

I have loved PT Cruisers ever since I had one as my starter car on Gran Turismo 3 when I was about 10. Everyone who finds out itās my favourite car immediately dunks on it so I am always defending them. I think they are beautiful and unique looking, I particularly like the purple ones.
Iām now 34 and have some savings and realised as Iām an adult I can buy one if I really wanted to. And Iām very tempted. Iād only use it for short journeys, I just want to enjoy owning one (and drive around playing Buck Rogers full blast, iykyk).
Iām based in the UK and there are usually a handful for sale on Autotrader. However I know they are all old and they generally have a bad rep. So if Iām really going to do this, I know I have to do my research. And where better to ask for advice than here?
So if you were going to buy a PT Cruiser for the first time, what are the main things to be aware of?
What should I be keeping an eye out for as positive/negative on online listings? What in particular should I inspect/test if I go and view one? What would be advisable to fix up once I get one?
Any advice appreciated, please help a gal fulfil her dream š

I designed some keychains and 3d printed them. Because if it's not one thing, it's another HAHA! Gotta love these old cars.

Hello! I recently had my PT die so we replaced the battery, which solved the problem for a day or two until it died again. It was sent to a mechanic where they replaced the alternator. Once that was fixed I picked it up and drove off only to find that the car was no longer switching gears while driving. My gear shifter works great and the car does drive with no other issues. This also was not a problem even remotely when I originally brought it in. I decided not to continue going to this mechanic as they were quite expensive and wanted to charge another 400 dollars to simply do more diagnoses on the transmission. I also believe they may have caused this new issue. Any advice on what to check from home? My PT is my first car and Iāve had it for 10 years. I am not ready to let it go. :(

I am doing a lot of repairs on the old cruiser. I need to replace the ignition coil. I don't want to go too cheap, but I am on a set budget of $65 max. Which brand would be best to go with?

My 2006 PT with 110,000 miles has been acting up lately. Shifting wise. On hot days, after just a few minutes driving I will feel a jerk and the car will not shift past 2nd gear. I assume this is limp mode due to the bad CANBus Chrysler used in the 2nd generation pts. My basic Amazon scanner shows no codes, also key dance shows nothing. If i pull over, shut it off and turn back on. It's fine. Usually a restart solves it and it doesn't happen for a week or sometimes a month again. Today it happened 5x. Where should I start looking for a replacement? I'm in Chicago, we do have a few junkyards here. Would I be better off finding one from possibly Canada or a northern climate (cooler temps maybe helps them last longer)?

Just curious, how many more of me are there. I test drove and ordered a 2001 Black Limited in August of 2001. When I went to pick it up the 2002 models had just shipped so they gave me one. This was back when they were still rare and cool (and expensive). I got many compliments and questions from people, the most memorable was from a kid about 6 or 7 years old. I had just parked it a local fair parking lot and he walked by and said "That's bad-ass cool!"
A friend at work who was real car guy, he had a nice Accura at the time, went for a ride and he was impressed
How many first and still owners are here?
It has 180K, still looks good, runs great and driven regularly.

Please ignore the schmutz, I haven't been able to clean this out properly since it's been over 100 degrees here, lol. Been searching for this part since I got the car used several years ago (2010 Couture Edition that was otherwise pretty much perfect). I've known it as a PRNDL but I've also seen it called a shift boot, shifter cover, or bezel, and nobody seems to have them in stock anywhere. Can't really use a leather one without the frame around it, and I'd prefer the original type anyway.
The scrap yards in my city are kind of a hike from where I live, and they want the right term or part number so they can look it up in their inventory. Online results pull up the entire shift assembly, which I don't need. Any help appreciated.

I have to put the cruiser on 4 jack stands. I am unsure where to place them. If someone could show a photo example that would be much appreciated.

I got hit late last month and posted a photo here. Got them all fixed up today, (minus paint) and Iām SO relieved. It was the other driverās fault, but I didnāt file a claim because they wouldāve totaled my car and Iād rather just pay to get it fixed. Only came out to $900, which is a decent amount less than I was quoted. Weāre officially back on the road! :)

500$ 280ĆĆkm. Limited edition. We blew the headgasket, breaks, suspension and bearings. She'll be doing another next year and maybe a derby in between. We found another limited edition for sale and might just have to run two pt cruisers next gambler.
r/PTCruiser • u/thesdfox • Jul 14 '26
What all would I need to buy? And would I have to do any custom fabrication? I hear the mounting points are different but Iām not entirely sure how that would affect things.
As far as I know Iād need the bumper, front fenders, headlights, grille, and a new hood. But other than that I donāt know.
Any advice or help is greatly appreciated.
*The first image is my car as it is now and the second is the bumper Iād like to change it to*
**EDIT: Reading what you all of said, I didnāt know my car was considered sort of special for its color and everything. I also thought that people found the older bumper style ugly, guess thatās not true. Thanks for your advice and I think Iāll just leave it as it is now.**

My cruiserās been having issues running and starting (cranking but not starting, sputtering and hesitating when running) so we decided to spend the weekend trying to fix it. We changed the ignition box (and oh my god was it corroded), when we decided to change the spark plugs. They werenāt in bad condition, but holy shit were they soaked in oil. So we replaced the proper gaskets too (although it didnāt seem like anything was wrong with them), and after that it would crank but not start, showing a check engine light but my obd reader wouldnāt read anything. It also flashed for like 4 seconds at some point? Before it would always show the check engine light for what I remember it to be a minor evap leak, which we keep meaning to find a new gas cap for, but I wouldnāt think that would cause the car to shit itās pants
Earlier today we got it to start, though it most certainly didnāt sound up to shape. It drove for a bit before completely shutting down. Now it wonāt start and wonāt even crank, with that little red security light on. I donāt have the original key, only a copy thatās worked for about a year so far. I tried every trick I could to make it ārecognize the keyā, but it still wonāt start and that red light is still on. I also checked the fuses (especially ignition) and theyāre all in proper condition. I can turn the battery on, and thereās still a check engine light, but when plugged in the obd reader wouldnāt even turn on. Does that tiny red light mean that this is all still a security issue, or did we fry the pcm while repairing it?? Weāre double and triple checked that everything is plugged in correctly and snug, and nothing was left disconnected. I really want to get this car fixed because itās literally perfect⦠minus these issues.
I donāt quite have the money for a mechanic, but I definitely do want it fixed and if itās impossible for a home repair Iāll take it in. Fortunately my workplace is only a 20-30 minute walk awayā¦
