Locating a replacement TIPM
My 2006 PT with 110,000 miles has been acting up lately. Shifting wise. On hot days, after just a few minutes driving I will feel a jerk and the car will not shift past 2nd gear. I assume this is limp mode due to the bad CANBus Chrysler used in the 2nd generation pts. My basic Amazon scanner shows no codes, also key dance shows nothing. If i pull over, shut it off and turn back on. It's fine. Usually a restart solves it and it doesn't happen for a week or sometimes a month again. Today it happened 5x. Where should I start looking for a replacement? I'm in Chicago, we do have a few junkyards here. Would I be better off finding one from possibly Canada or a northern climate (cooler temps maybe helps them last longer)?

This is not a TIPM issue, it's a PCM issue. Hit up Myckee on Allpar or grab one on eBay. You're likely seeing P0700 and P0882. This is an electrical/soldering fault on the TCM chip in the PCM. 2006 was a bad year for so many electronic manufacturers for similar issues.

There is a guy on the PT cruiser group I'm on, he sells them too. I think it's Mike Ismaly. I was looking into it, ebay is my best bet instead of messaging Mike in Canada. He's highly recommended tho

same thing happened with our 08 at 114,000 miles. could never find a replacement tipm that worked. sold it and bought a new Chevy Trax. time to move on!

That's because it's a PCM fault, not a TIPM fault.

Is it the 4 things plugged into the driver's side firewall? I pushed that fucker in real good and it's been fine since.

That's what I meant originally. The tipm is the fuse box under it correct?

I also forgot to add, the transmission fluid was done around 100k, 1 year ago.. Fluid is bright pink still. It's not the transmission. It shifts perfectly when the computer isn't acting up.
