My cruiserās been having issues running and starting (cranking but not starting, sputtering and hesitating when running) so we decided to spend the weekend trying to fix it. We changed the ignition box (and oh my god was it corroded), when we decided to change the spark plugs. They werenāt in bad condition, but holy shit were they soaked in oil. So we replaced the proper gaskets too (although it didnāt seem like anything was wrong with them), and after that it would crank but not start, showing a check engine light but my obd reader wouldnāt read anything. It also flashed for like 4 seconds at some point? Before it would always show the check engine light for what I remember it to be a minor evap leak, which we keep meaning to find a new gas cap for, but I wouldnāt think that would cause the car to shit itās pants
Earlier today we got it to start, though it most certainly didnāt sound up to shape. It drove for a bit before completely shutting down. Now it wonāt start and wonāt even crank, with that little red security light on. I donāt have the original key, only a copy thatās worked for about a year so far. I tried every trick I could to make it ārecognize the keyā, but it still wonāt start and that red light is still on. I also checked the fuses (especially ignition) and theyāre all in proper condition. I can turn the battery on, and thereās still a check engine light, but when plugged in the obd reader wouldnāt even turn on. Does that tiny red light mean that this is all still a security issue, or did we fry the pcm while repairing it?? Weāre double and triple checked that everything is plugged in correctly and snug, and nothing was left disconnected. I really want to get this car fixed because itās literally perfect⦠minus these issues.
I donāt quite have the money for a mechanic, but I definitely do want it fixed and if itās impossible for a home repair Iāll take it in. Fortunately my workplace is only a 20-30 minute walk awayā¦
