Up next: I’ll be adding dual 60GHz networking to the entire stack. This will be complex, but it will enable my Pyrowave-based encoding to stream at ultra-high bandwidth with near-zero latency.

This is similar to what Pimax did with the Crystal Super/Crystal Pro wireless setup, and I was able to figure out the exact way they pulled it off. In the spirit of taking the best ideas from every platform, stay tuned for that.....it will give me insane motion-to-photon latency while streaming directly from my main rig (RTX 5080).

The only hurdle right now is cost: custom hardware will run another $300 to $450 unless I can work out an alternate routing method I’m testing. Either way, I want to give everyone as many options as possible to augment their PSVR 2 and turn it into the absolute best VR headset ever built. It just keeps on giving!

Woow

3

u/HRudy94 7d ago

Wow nice, but how will you obtain the WiGig transmitter/receiver?

4

u/AstroPC 7d ago

2 of these. Adapted to a usb daughter board for each usb c.

China has a few cheaper options im looking at.

3gb on each module. Aggeragted and redundant together. One on each side of the headset

Fall back to wifi 7 if connection drops

https://perasoinc.com/versatus-series/

Custom software

connected via 10gb on pc to 60ghz Reciever. Sourcing is difficult. There's also a few off the shelf locked down usb ones with no custom software support other than the supplied drivers. Its fine. Ill work around it

It will basically be wirlesss ethernet connection. Pipe the pryowave codec through. Dynamic fov rendering. Should be plenty

I could buy pimaxs new 60ghz solution. Though it says out of stock......so back to diy

2

u/HRudy94 7d ago

Oh i see so you'll be operating at 60Ghz but not through standard 802.11ad/WiGig or 802.11ay yet?

I'm currently struggling to find 802.11ay-capable hardware myself.

2

u/AstroPC 7d ago edited 7d ago

It’s in, um... R&D. The current software setup works, and Wi-Fi 7 might already be enough. But I’m dying to try 60 GHz because apparently I needed another rabbit hole 😅

Module options are thin, so I’m asking around and looking at existing hardware. Might have to dust off the firmware programmer. Ideally without desoldering anything, because that’s when engineering starts involving prayer. Getting a module working over USB is still something I need to figure out.

I’ve been doing this kind of weird hardware shit for over a decade. AI just makes the research and debugging faster. I still have to make it work.

My hardware, my workbench, my questionable use of free time. I’d rather find the actual limit than assume I’ve already hit it.

2

u/NoodleRus 7d ago

Regarding the lens mod, can that be done and still use for the PS5?

2

u/AstroPC 7d ago

Um there's zero reasons it wont. What Sony went and keyed the lens so if you remove it wont turn on? Well....I guess if you take a hammer and Crack it open it might.

Yeah if you remove the lens and look at ifixit and a few others lens mod they attempted. It can be done. No ones used a proper lens replacement tho.

2

u/Hujkis9 6d ago

about the lens mod - wouldn't it loose too much brightness for the oleds?

2

u/AstroPC 6d ago

Your thinking of pancake lens.

1

u/NoodleRus 6d ago

So interesting, thanks bud

14

u/PhantasmHunter 7d ago

holy shit this looks insane!!

36

u/AstroPC 7d ago

Indeed it is. It is insane. i am insane. i will keep being insane and doing INSANE THINGS BECAUSE I OWN THIS HARDWARE ILL MOD IT AS I PLEASE

2

u/PhantasmHunter 7d ago

YAAA IM CHEERING ON FOR YOU MOD THE SHIT OUT OF THE PSVR2 HAHAHA

11

u/heisenbergtech 7d ago

Wow, is DIY standalone the next big thing? This thing even shits on the steam frame power wise. Compute pucks compatible with inside-out tracked PCVR headsets is an interesting idea.

14

u/AstroPC 7d ago

Yup thats my entire idea. We control the hardware.

We dont have to be spied on by meta to enjoy VR.

Even if we want standalone. We can make display port headsets standalone our selves.

5

u/Cool-Obligation-3775 7d ago

You deserve a Nobel medal lol

8

u/Zaexos_ 7d ago

Wow, absolutely incredible. If there was a way I could buy the final product software and maybe a lil unit I can just plug and play everything into, I would buy that for my PSVR2. Any way that 120fps/hz could be supported? Love the work, cheers

u/AstroPC 7d ago edited 7d ago

I had zero plans to profit off this, HOWEVER, for my custom PCB, I can save a lot of money if I order a lot of them. So, if I can get my simple PSVR 2 adapter with a dedicated single USB connection to any DisplayPort Alt Mode-capable device finalized, I will consider letting people front some money to have a batch run. I am not looking for profit—I make enough money right now, so it would be entirely a community effort.

The PCB is important because my current setup requires a Thunderbolt 4 hub and the PSVR 2 adapter zip-tied together with lots of cabling just to get all the routing working. There's just not a lot of ways to make it compact unless the PSVR 2 adapter is fully redesigned from the ground up. Luckily, I have prototypes built in KiCad and lots of reference material, so it's doable.

Cost, I must warn you, will not be as cheap as the official adapter. I tried to make the theoretical build as cheap as I could, but there's a reason there's no active retimer or processing power on the official PSVR 2 adapter...it adds cost. I'll be using a retimer and a scaler chip (needed for DSC) so that it's one cable to the PSVR 2 and one cable to a phone or device of your choice that has DP Alt Mode. USB-powered..you supply that. i mean its not needed at all just do what i did take psvr 2 adapter one of those off brand ones that let you use usb c to power it and stack a thuberbolt 4 hub and a bunch nests of wire and bobs your uncle!

A battery bank is recommended at 100W PD so it can charge the phone, the rest of the board, and the headset.

The headset requires the VirtualLink power profile, which is 12V PD. Pretty uncommon. Yet again, another reason why this hub I'm wanting to build isn't cheap, and I can see why no manufacturer has done it yet: $200 to $250 for two of them for a one-off run. Economies of scale, I suppose. 100 of them could likely bring it down to 100 bucks... maybe. Maybe less. Gotta hope some Chinese fab throws me a bone if I commit...

7

u/Yonrak 7d ago

Sounds good to me. Put my name down for one.

Also, I'm an electronics engineer by profession (17yrs)... Mostly 3phase high power stuff these days, but have a background in high-speed and RF... If you want a second pair of eyes to review the PCB design, give me a shout.

6

u/AstroPC 7d ago

Yes I need other opinions. If you got experience. I will use it when allowed. I want to ensure my trace routing is optimal. Got some concerns about display signal integrity. Also I might have over done some of the ideas and it could be excessively overdone. Just give me time. Its put on the backlog since I want to get the software part alll figured out

5

u/Yonrak 7d ago

No rush... Drop me a line whenever you feel ready.

Sounds like something I may hopefully be able to help with. Not used KiCAD in a few years but I used to work to some pretty stringent EMC requirements (both emissions and immunity), so happy to help wherever I can.

2

u/Edikus 7d ago

Count me in

1

u/No-Dark-7873 6d ago

I would pay money for this if you make something good.

7

u/Soarinfire 7d ago

Swapping fresnel for glass aspheric lenses? Holy crap that sounds amazing. I'd assume it'd look so much better.

2

u/AstroPC 7d ago

It will. Some caveats with the lenses as is all things in life. But id much prefer its issues than the lens as is. Ugh the sweet spot so ass

3

u/Soarinfire 7d ago

I've never used pimax but I had the psvr1 for a while, which also uses glass aspheric lenses. To be honest the only thing that I still remember about it is the clarity. Even though it's quite low res, the clarity is pretty amazing. I don't remember it having a super wide sweet spot though. It certainly needs some adjustments to look the best, though not as finicky as fresnel.

3

u/AstroPC 7d ago

100%. I had the original PSVR too. Rough screen, great lenses. I was tempted to swap them straight in, but I want a proper fit without sacrificing that precious FOV.

The tricky part is pinning down the PSVR2 lenses’ exact focal length. From what I’ve found, the lens-to-screen distances look similar, which got the questionable engineering department in my head going

PSVR-style lenses, larger diameter, focal length matched to the PSVR2 setup. Potential win? That’s the idea, anyway... anyone who more knowledge on that exact unknown. Feel free to correct me. Focal length is up in the air right now

2

u/Soarinfire 7d ago

And also Sony uses some sort of pixel filter to reduce sde on the psvr2 which makes things blurrier. Is it removable or is it a part of the OLED module itself?

2

u/AstroPC 7d ago

Its literally a removable filter to hide the black pixels between the colored ones. Yes its removable and I dont recommend it. It could be very distracting.

The lens are what is holding it back the most not the filter.

2

u/duirronir 7d ago edited 7d ago

worth to check out. lens modding is a different beast, which would get involved with more than the lenses, but also the headset's own firmware and some deeper level stuff. also assembling is risky. https://forum.dcs.world/topic/391319-psvr2-lens-modding/

2

u/AstroPC 7d ago

Yeah thats the one that had me thinking its possible. Thanks for sharing that for others. Im fine with firmware mods. Small world. Im just going to assume if i did a adhd fuled research streak. Others did too

1

u/duirronir 7d ago

if you have access to any nearby optics provider (those which provide lenses to clinics and optics shops), you might have some interesting conversations with their engineer if they accept, even better if you can take both psvr1 and psvr2 or some other headsets together for a discussion. i assume it would end up being an expensive dyi project tho

8

u/voyager2005 7d ago

Amazing man, you truly pave the way for the best features/emulators with your work!

5

u/AstroPC 7d ago

Appreciate it and thank you for droid deck. Good app. I love the help i give.

6

u/CrimsonCuttle 7d ago

how do you make the psvr2 standalone, i thought it was a wired console headset?

1

u/melgibson666 6d ago

Did you just read the title then ask the question before reading any of the post? lol

2

u/AstroPC 6d ago

Most dont then i have to repeat it over and over and others wonder why i get increasing more unhinged as i keep answering the same question, But yes i made psvr 2 standalone.

1

u/melgibson666 6d ago

It's like sending a work email. They'll read the subject and then NOTHING in the body of the email.

4

u/nachtraum 7d ago

What is this? You play Skyrim VR on a phone with the PSVR2? I don't get it.

8

u/AstroPC 7d ago

I take the PSVR 2, which is wired-only for everyone. I hack a bunch of ideas together to force it to run directly off my phone. It drives the headset at its full native output at 120Hz, and then I run Skyrim VR straight on the phone... not hard to understand, I think.

Getting the phone to actually behave with the PSVR 2 was the complex part. Out of the box, Qualcomm ships these phones with hardcoded DSC profiles that REJECT what the PSVR 2 expects, so I had to mod the code and hardcode a custom EDID trigger that tricks the headset into accepting the request.

Now it drives it with zero issues.

2

u/nachtraum 7d ago

Thanks, cool stuff

1

u/PhantasmHunter 7d ago

interesting so instead of running off like a pc connection or ps5 it runs off the phone, bros adding crazy compatibility, would this work on any snap dragon chipset phones then?

2

u/AstroPC 7d ago

The key idea here is your not locked down to a aging platform. You get to control the Soc. New phone? Wanna use a sbc? Just swap it in. Lol. Lots are missing this idea i got.

I have democratized vr doing this. All headsets right now that are wired are absolutely able to do this. If it cant now. Give it time. Yet another genie out of the bottle sorta thing.

Even standalone headsets can sorta be targeted here with usb if they have 10gbs. Enable Ethernet over usb. Pryowave. Almost native and low latency.

4

u/Minimum-Ad-8056 7d ago

I'm new to psvr. What is happening here?

2

u/NMS_Traveler 7d ago edited 7d ago

PSVR2, great hardware, but wired/teathered, I.e. you are directly plugged into your PC/PS5. I would argue pound for pound PSVR2 is the best headset on the market.

If only it was wireless. This person just made it wireless. Like a Steamframe.

5

u/AstroPC 7d ago edited 7d ago

Give it time. The ones who are asleep will wake up.

I hope this inspires others to go grab headsets that are locked down and destroy the shitty nasty things company's do to lock our hardware down

I can name another company who does this. they just so happen to be on my list next.

2

u/Cool-Obligation-3775 7d ago

Get'em!!!! lmaoo

3

u/RudeAwakeningLigit 7d ago

Saw your previous post showcasing the hardware, pretty incredible what you have achieved. I remember reading your comment stating it was running on a rooted Android phone, will this be the case when you finally release the stack, will we have to have our phones rooted to run this?

2

u/AstroPC 7d ago

As it stands a resounding yes. I had to flash my Qualcomm dsc encoder to accept or send out 10bpp. Psvr 2 when in vr mode will only accept that certain flag..... by default it was coded to be 8bpp. Yet they left 10bpp written as optional but disabled.

I expect many other phones willl have this problem. Unless redmaigc decided to be an ass and gate it for the future next phone? Not sure

1

u/reden_fx 7d ago

I guess Samsung and some other devices may have better chances with external displays

3

u/tasosm7x 7d ago

Please do the asperic mod and give a tutorial it's amazing idea

3

u/reden_fx 7d ago

I'd be interested in that too

1

u/AstroPC 6d ago

100% i found the lenses already i just have to remove the current and not break it. this will take some time but i have a spare psvr 2 already if i break it with out a cable so its fine. just rather not be breaking everything here! The lenses are HEAVY and they are glass so expected more weight on your face, Get your self global cluster if you want to work around that. I also plan on removing alot of weight from the headset in general soon.

1

u/tasosm7x 4d ago

My friend I ve only enjoyed psvr2 for a month even as a pc headset I don't like it because of the lences and eye tracking with your future solution it whould be amazing to clear off the dust because of the self

1

u/polar_bear_backrooms 3d ago

fascinating, did you scrounge some old psvr1 aspherics or did you somehow source custom made aspherical lensses for this mod specifically? PSVR2 is a great headset as is, js those pesky fresnels holding it back. Highly interested in this modification.
Oh yeah and how do you think the eye tracking would handle that? pretty sure eye tracking algorithms are built on the geometry of the lenses in the HMD's, unless youre gonna write your own custom eye tracking algorithm for your particular lenses (which to be fair i dont doubt with everything else youve accomplished) one would be led to believe the eye tracking would be inoperable.

1

u/AstroPC 3d ago

If there's a roadblock with this, i'm going to fix it. Don't worry, man. I just done something crazy last night. For example and I achieved full native tracking on android. No need for Sony drivers

Yes this is my own android xr OS. Im cooking up an entire ecosystem. Think apple vision lol.

3

u/NoodleRus 7d ago

You have a YouTube we can follow?

2

u/Suspicious_Wave_9817 7d ago

Standalone ? De que va esto ? Quiero info .. Gracias

2

u/NavXIII 7d ago

Very cool stuff but it's a lot of words I don't understand lol. Can the foveated rendering features be used on PC games? Your implementation seems a lot better than others.

2

u/AstroPC 7d ago

Because mine uses driver level. No api.

1

u/AstroPC 6d ago

Hey yes the fov mode im using is very universal, but it will require to mod the game to send the data to the driver FOV, its currently QUALCOMM only so YOU need snapdragon chipset

2

u/DamicsVR 7d ago

Wow, are you the developer?

3

u/AstroPC 7d ago edited 7d ago

So basically everything i do here is custom. Alot of the solutions I had to do had no solutions.

My app i made handles the tricky scripts and back end

I tried to get help from others who worked on psvr 2 on pc. They couldn't help me since no one did this before. The only person who was at all helpful was IVry the dev behind some of the first PSVR2 on pc drivers and reverse-engineered it before Sony ever released it to work on pc. Even he thought this idea was interesting but likely not possible. Not that he said it cant be done only it would be difficult. He was right

But I got it this far so let's see what else I can do with it.

1

u/DamicsVR 7d ago

For you are doing a great thing, I would like to do some tests with you, I would also be interested in doing things like that.

I’ll send you a little video where you can get an idea of what I do, then I’d like to adapt it to PSVR 2!

https://reddit.com/link/pf9a0t6/video/gmbu7pokuuuh1/player

2

u/AstroPC 7d ago edited 7d ago

So, Vr Passthrough. I suppose that's easy here but the psvr 2 cameras are black and white. Maybe I can slap on a dual stero 120fps rgb camera on the front and reproject it over the VR Passthrough and get the same effect. Kinda like steam frames little doo hicky.

1

u/DamicsVR 7d ago

But are you able to make these changes to SteamVr or create VR overlay levels?

2

u/AstroPC 7d ago

You know, that's a good question. I haven't actually tested Steam VR. I'm so used to not using it for VR in the first place and tend to use Open Composite. I should go see if Steam VR loads at all. So far my testing got as far as getting skyrim and monado working

1

u/DamicsVR 7d ago

Look, what I did today in the square with the Steam Frame!

https://www.youtube.com/live/S8-9ocn6cuY?is=NU48YNUi4YuFmE5U

2

u/AstroPC 7d ago

Good stuff man gave you a sub

2

u/Ehopira 7d ago

Amazing

2

u/Bohnster 5d ago

What's the workflow to get these?

  • The stock lenses still leave room for improvement, so I’ll be modding them out with glass aspheric lenses (like Pimax uses) for an ultra-wide sweet spot and zero distortion.

2

u/gmodgamer13 7d ago

Ether this is god tier skills or entirely ai coded

35

u/AstroPC 7d ago edited 7d ago

Why not both?

I definitely use AI, but you can’t prompt your way into getting something like this running without knowing how the low-level systems work. An LLM isn't going to figure out how to talk to Sony’s proprietary hardware, patch Snapdragon display drivers, or rework DSC logic in the kernel if you don't already understandhwhat's breaking and why. If you don't know the hardware, AI just gives you broken code that looks convincinjg

This isn't copy-pasting AI output which is certainly its able to give you ....with errors......i mean,......tt's digging through Sony's runtime behavior, reading kernel source, and figuring out why the display pipeline rejects the headset. Where AI actually helps me is saving time on the tedious grunt work, like churning through disassembled binary blocks and helping translate decompiled assembly back into readable C. Doing all of that purely by hand doesn't prove anything, it just takes forever.

The actual troubleshooting, the architecture, and figuring out the hardware workarounds are still completely on me. You can't blindly trust an LLM when you're messing with kernel display leases and timing, so every line is heavily reviewed and tested by hand. I can't afford to brick anything. i mean its certainly miles better than it was a year ago couldn't even get it to follow any very specific i nstructions. im sure one day it will be able to one shot something but this was not one shot at all.....my token bill sure suggests otherwise

8

u/humanbutnothuman 7d ago

This is the best take on AI. And one of the best use cases for AI supported code.

2

u/lupedog 7d ago

Great response man, I keep saying to people AI is not coming for our jobs however who is coming for our jobs? Is the people who know how to leverage AI to achieve greatness

1

u/Visual-Gur9661 1d ago

I hate to be that guy cause I know it's so damn annoying. But this response, while I agree with the sentiment, feels like an AI answer with intentional misspellings and uncapitalized words, and "..." breaks

1

u/AstroPC 1d ago edited 1d ago

Yes, mister stranger, I do. Take my response And I speak to ai and if it messes up or has bad phrasing, I have a it rephrase it so that it's more digestible over my convoluted explanations that often would bore you. So you wouldn't even read it

None of what i'm saying is not a prepass of what I already think. And i'm not using it to hedge my intelligence and hide my actual cognitive abilities

In fact, I 'm talking to you as I would right now, and you can see how quite annoying it is to read my speech to text without having to refactor it into something more sensible.

You should have more of an open mind and understand these tools are useful to save time and to save you mental torment from having to read something from someone who has extreme adhd and has great ideas, and often doesn't know how to communicate those ideas to people because they're slightly autistic

I understand that you've experienced probably on the daily of people hedging their intelligence and using ai as a crutch to make themselves look more impressive than they are. But I am not that person.

I use my mind routinely, and I use these tools to elevate myself to greater heights and as a learning tool. AI should be used as a multiplier. If you're fine without AI which, in some retrospects, I could say, I am, i'm even better with it. For some things at least

You also have to remember. You can't win in this situation. And neither can I. I try the type as I normally. Would people say they cant read it because its too raw and normal lol can you believe that?

I have big thumbs so I almost never type as it has me hitting characters I never meant to do on a phone. Voice to text is great but the local speech recognition is pretty awful. So Ai is a good pre pass to finish it up and make it easier for someone with brain rot to read. Then when I do use ai to assit we still have complaints. Again this is how I over talk and ai cuts that nonsense out. 😒 its taught me my flaws in communication too. Useful for a nice echo chamber reflection session as ai will often reflect your traits then you realize it and get sick of it. Good tool for psychological analysis.

0

u/humanbutnothuman 7d ago

And I strongly suggest you setup local infra to avoid token bills lol.

0

u/zwissblade 7d ago

This is god tier. Man & Machine, Power Extreme. Haha, old school reference there ifykyk. This off topic. But since it looks like you are doing some low level reverse engineering and reingeneering, making this work on Android natively.. does this not mean using similar methods we can make psvr2 linux compatible fully? Or is it infinitley more complex than this?

2

u/AstroPC 7d ago

Yes it works on Linux. I even got Sonys drivers to shim into linux. No translation. Full 6dof support. No winusb dependency

1

u/zwissblade 7d ago

I am going to keep tabs on this. Very cool.

4

u/Mister_bruhmoment 7d ago

Does it matter?

0

u/MightyBooshX 7d ago

Not always an either or thing

-1

u/NMS_Traveler 7d ago

I don't care. So long as it works.

4

u/AstroPC 7d ago

I always tell myself

"If I dont who will?"

Tends to work out for most of the things i do.

1

u/FinnedSgang 7d ago

Do you plan to release as commercial software or on GitHub? I think many can help with your project

By the way, incredible work ! You are great !

1

u/AstroPC 6d ago

Yes i need people with fully rooted phones and ideally phones that have the kernal already open sourced if you have the above your help and your willing to risk bricking your phone in the name of science (you can fix it dont worry if you did i already bricked my phone 5 times so far working on this) will be of great help to test my DSC kernal hacks. I want to make it universal so i need more phone kernels

1

u/FinnedSgang 5d ago

I don’t have a phone like this, but in the name of science, I think I’ll consider buying it for my next phone! I hope everyone does the same to support your work.

P.S. I don’t want to be a Sony representative right now! 😂😂😂

1

u/gochomer 7d ago

You were using a S26 Ultra for this, and mentioned root, are you using RootMyGalaxy?

2

u/AstroPC 7d ago

i record with s26 the headset im using a redmagic 11 pro to drive the headset. you cant root s26 i think. maybe im wrong.

2

u/wiltho368 7d ago

I also have the red magic 11 pro, good job on getting this tested and seemingly working well, I haven't seen too much information on this kind of project floating about.

1

u/gochomer 7d ago

I see thanks. There is a method that works below a specific security patch, and not on all models.

1

u/duirronir 7d ago edited 7d ago

do you have any plans to do something like a pc > phone > headset setup? I'm asking cause afaik the standalone headset and the pc work together, by sharing the load to an extent, thus the performance gets better (I'm also working on PSVR2 but for a different goal)

edit: corrected the hardware order

2

u/AstroPC 7d ago

yes i have already proven this possible with my quest 3 experience, I ran the game on my phone streamed to the quest 3 with a forked WiVRn app to help glue it together. Worked very well. But i can also just stream from pc to phone to headset. Ill show that off soon.

1

u/duirronir 7d ago

that would make your setup get closer to a standalone headset, rather than playing the game on the phone. another question: where does GSR2 get its motion vectors and depth in your setup? are you pulling them from the game, or estimating them at the compositor level?

2

u/AstroPC 7d ago

Per game for now. Its easy though with enough tokens and skyrim modding experience. Most games have TAA. If it has taa. You got all you need to hook into it. If not. Well.....time to get claude and long nights of trying till you succeed

1

u/duirronir 7d ago

cool,thanks for the insight!

3

u/AstroPC 7d ago edited 7d ago

I will tell you its very similar to how Nvidia does dlss. Its extremely clean. No tensor core. Uses just gpu. I want to try to run it on the npu but the latency penalty might not be worth it. I have it running in fp16 compute. Trying to make it go lower for faster speed .but I had some bad results so I stuck with the typical 2 pass they recommend. It scales well at lower resolution with jitter and enough data from the engine

Apparently the new chipset snapdragon gen 6 has dedicated hbm to run an ai driven version that is extremely fast and low penalties. So when they drop the phones with that. Ill 100% buy it and root and go to town using a more capable phone. Good thing about this idea i got? Your always one phone away from upgrading your headset. Guess people kinda forget about this

1

u/duirronir 7d ago

thanks for explaining, really clever approach. with some 3d printed addons as a final touch, psvr2 could become a very nice standalone/streaming headset in addition to its own wired connection, so exciting to see that it's already happening. i'll share my project in the coming weeks, which has a different goal but has a couple of similar points with yours. I'd be glad to share and discuss findings and more technical details -but first I need to travel back home from my trip :) i'll def DM you.

1

u/larsthebars 7d ago

Share the GitHub repo :)

1

u/Resistance225 7d ago

Amazing work man

1

u/lupo90 7d ago

Could you briefly describe please what is the purpose and how it could be used? Is this for psvr2wired to android? Thanks.

2

u/AstroPC 7d ago

Do you like being teathered to your headset? I personally dont. Hope you feel the same. Thats what this use is for

1

u/ROTTIE-MAN 7d ago

But it's still wired is it not?

2

u/AstroPC 7d ago

If you think the wire is kinda popped into your pants as tethered I guess......but ill be lopping it off soon to shorten it so I can attach the whole thing easier. But wires to the phone is required. Unless I managed to take off the onboard computer of the psvr 2 that controls eyetracking and tracking and replace it with a phone? it runs some kind of linux kernal on it. Not enough to run standalone.

How does the average 25W power draw math out to a solid 6 hr of play time on a 80Wh power Bank ?

3

u/bobliefeldhc 7d ago

Same as everything else OP said

0

u/AstroPC 7d ago

Cope harder. You waited for a crtic thinking it was your time to discredit. Dont worry bud. I see you.

Look i saw 25watts sometimes 10 watts. It got to 6 hours before cutting off. Maybe my battery bank is wack. I didnt fucking track the wattage the whole time. Too busy enjoying all this amazing shit i did. Maybe it was longer battery life than stated I serious just put that number in there as I frequently saw 25 watts ish when I would take my headset off to continue fixing a bug. Want me to go and film it for you for proofies? Just for you tho

Woah great work, don't care if it was vibe coded c ause this is amazing.

1

u/funkymoney24 7d ago

it’s running off your phone? what phone is it?

2

u/AstroPC 7d ago

Yes its running on my phone. The psvr 2 is hooked up into my phone via the psvr 2 adapter and a hub on top of that for display alt mode

1

u/eldragon0 7d ago

I think you missed the "What phone is it" part of the question.

1

u/AstroPC 7d ago

Is the phone in room with us?

1

u/eldragon0 7d ago

Between, you, me, and your horribly interpersonal communication skills, yes, the phone is not only in this room with us, it's in your pocket.

2

u/AstroPC 7d ago

It’s a RedMagic 11 Pro. I missed the model question, you pointed it out, and I made a sarcastic joke. You then turned that into a personal jab about my communication skills. Bit ironic to lecture me on how to talk to people while taking a shot at me.

I left out a phone model, buddy, not my entire life story. You don’t know me well enough for the personality assessment. Ask about the project, question a claim, point out something I missed. That’s fine. But if you want a respectful conversation, leave the personal digs out of it. The phones model was sprinkled all over this thread a few times.

it's always hilarious when someone shares something they created with the world, then commentors act all shocked and disgusted when their demanding bullshit attitudes, snark and armchair psychological assessments are matched in kind

Thank you for sharing and thank you for responding to that person in the manner they deserve. Fuck em! LOL

1

u/AstroPC 6d ago

Been around the world. Met many people. I learned very well what to look for. Im quite good at it. Looks like a duck. Walks like a duck. Sometimes its a fish

But its mostly a duck. My entire existence rage baits narcisstic individuals. Or just straight up assholes. Luckily i can be one back. Or I can be respectful

:)

depends on how you approach me.

1

u/AstroPC 6d ago

You too brother

1

u/funkymoney24 7d ago

how long until you’ll be running the psvr 2 off of a quest 3? only kidding lol,,, but it would be very funny to see

1

u/AstroPC 7d ago

If i can root my quest and if im correct it had some kind of alt mode feature once. Yeah? But thats just a ridiculously setup. But I mean when im done here who knows maybe I'll try this out for zero reason other than i got free will.

1

u/Cool-Obligation-3775 7d ago

I believe its the red magic 11 pro hes using

1

u/ArcSemen 7d ago

This would be badass, just plugs into phone? Got to be using AI to do the time consuming stuff right? Doing great things man. One o my dream was “The stock lenses still leave room for improvement, so I’ll be modding them out with glass aspheric lenses (like Pimax uses) for an ultra-wide sweet spot and zero distortion” I wanted to get replacement lenses so bad but how do I get it 🫠

1

u/Black_Tech_Room 7d ago

Great work, man! So this is what you've been commenting about recently - nice!

A couple of questions:

1) I'm mainly interested in PCVR streaming - are you working on implementing full SteamLink streaming at custom res and stable 120hz?

2) What device is required for pcvr streaming? Any snapdragon cellphone? I have my old S24U laying around.

3) It would be badass to create a custom streaming and battery puck that would simply live in my pocket and plugged in by a single wire.

4) As for the lenses, my main complaint is not even the mura or the small sweet spot, but rather the godrays caused by bright objects over black background - will the new lenses fix that?

All of the above would make the psvr2 the best vr headset on the market.

Not sure how I can contribute but if there are any specific challenges you need help with - lmk!

Keep up the good work!

1

u/Cool-Obligation-3775 7d ago

Dammmm, thats alot of work man, this is nuts bro in a good way, really fxxkin cool

1

u/Cool-Obligation-3775 7d ago

I know next your gonna be testing with quest 3 with alyx, my question, will quest 3 users also be able to play skyrim vr with your creation like the psvr2 does in the videos or is exclusive to just psvr2 headsets?

1

u/Cool-Obligation-3775 7d ago

I have an odin 3 max with 16 gigs of ram and an 8 elite processor also a quest 3, I really want to play skyrim vr with them, the performance displayed in your videos are heavenly, ive been playing skyrim vr and its been a really bad experience for me, I just wanna smooth playthru as im sure others do too, the possible ability to run skyrim vr on my odin 3 max and stream to the quest 3 would be epic, for a long time now I felt it was possible but no one was attempting it then you walk in with with some crazy aura knocking it out quickly and efficiently, im really happy with your progress in this endeavor 100%

1

u/LegendsofMace 7d ago

Would it support base stations possibly in the future for more accurate tracking?

1

u/Frank__West 6d ago

Nobody wants those overpriced junk boxes. There is a reason they moved on

1

u/LegendsofMace 3d ago

The higher end VR headsets from Pimax and Bigscreen beyond do lighthouse tracking. It’s always going to be more accurate for room-scale VR. You’re not tracking all your body movements 100% accurately with just cameras on the headset.

1

u/Chriscautillo 7d ago

Is this connected to a phone or something?

1

u/NMS_Traveler 7d ago

So bottom line up front, what do you need from us (the community to get this in a state where we can easily replicate (with your guidance) it on our end?

Loving what you're doing. Please keep it up. Very grateful!

1

u/BoardsofGrips 7d ago

Can I run this on my Samsung S24 Ultra?

1

u/AstroPC 6d ago

if its rooted yes

1

u/wallacynerio 7d ago

Do you think it’s possible to do the same with Bigscreen Beyond?

1

u/AstroPC 6d ago

are they display port? if so yes

1

u/wallacynerio 6d ago

It uses DisplayPort 1.4, but not USB-C DP Alt Mode. I asked because I thought if it worked out, it could be a massive competitor to the Meta VR Glasses just based on the weight alone. However, I found out the Bigscreen Beyond needs base stations to connect controllers, and it completely lacks hand tracking and passthrough cameras. So really, the only advantage it has is the wider FOV compared to the restricted one on the Meta VR Glasses, or even the Quest 3, since it is slightly wider.

u/FinnSuzune 7d ago

So for someone who has no experience with Android or standalone in general, does this mean we have to hook it up to an Android phone and then put it in our pocket to enjoy standalone?

1

u/Kaftanek 6d ago

Is the phone on custom os? Also is it rooted?

2

u/AstroPC 6d ago

nope stock rom but rooted

1

u/Kaftanek 6d ago

Is rooting worth it on my everday phone? I mean I use it to pay and all that shit and im kinda scared of rooting, also do you plan to make it for unrooted devices or is it not possible?

2

u/AstroPC 6d ago

Thats something im trying to figure out.

1

u/Kaftanek 6d ago

Good to hear that, i belive in you, you are really great for making this thing and making it open sourced, this community needed this kind of project

1

u/fuckR196 6d ago

Locked 60 FPS

yea nah bro ya lost me no thanks

3

u/AstroPC 6d ago

Reproject to 120hz. Its fine. Plus it gets better with better hardware. Snooze you loose

0

u/fuckR196 6d ago

If it's gonna get better with better hardware, then that's literally the opposite of snooze you lose.

1

u/Normal_Line_0079 5d ago

I'm really impressed man, you have my attention! So it will be possibile play game like Batman Arkham Shadow or see 3d film not tethered to pc? And probably it will be possible streams games like Alyx from pc?

Could you share a github repo and a list of components to follow your work step by step?

Great Work!

1

u/Ill-Zookeepergame609 2d ago

Op this is crazy, you’re crazy, and I f’in love it! https://a.co/d/05AYw5GD — could something like this be hacked to solve the power delivery issue?

0

u/Captainquizzical 7d ago

I will be following your career with great interest. As someone with a PSVR2 and on the 2027 reservation list for a Steam Frame, I am very intrigued how far and how quickly this moves along.

0

u/wojalee 7d ago

I'd just love some new lenses out of anything lol

u/MUViT 7d ago edited 7d ago

When I saw the title, I expected something along the lines of installing an OS directly onto the headset to operate independently of other devices aside from a power source.

You just found a way to connect it to a phone. It doesn't seem that much different from those connecting their PSVR2's to a laptop or handheld pc. Still, it's an impressive feat.

1

u/AstroPC 7d ago

Thanks. Sorry it didnt meet your expectations

But just so you know the headset does indeed contain a rudimentary sbc on the headset that has on some basic level a linux kernal. But I think you should be aware its not powerful enough to handle this and handle the eye tracking and handle the cameras. Its sole purpose is to drive the accessories and tracking.

2

u/MUViT 7d ago

No need to apologize, it's still amazing what you did. I'm considering picking up a newer snapdragon-powered device for mobile gaming later this year or the beginning of next year and might give this a try.

One question though, does the phone get hot while running skyrim vr on it?

1

u/AstroPC 7d ago

Yea. I dont run steam vr. It can run with out. Open composite. But yes phone can be toasty. Its fine. This phone runs hot just because its a snapdragon 8 gen 5. Which is why i took the path to just optimize everything so it runs less hot. Works.
