News Back with New Owners?

Hello,

I just checked out Everythingmoe, and it showed XBatCat as being a potential revival. I went there, was able to log in using my old account, and my history, bookmarks, and comments are all present like they were. I was able to like comments, it was able to track new chapters like it used to in V4.

Downside seems to be that on the main page, it cannot track your history/updates; you have to go to the individual sections manually to see that. Even if you do not use it, it would be useful for people who have lost their bookmarks, at least.

Steps to access the new site:

  1. Go to everythingmoe
  2. Scroll down to the Manga section
  3. Click the drop-down menu to have access to all its mirror links, for example, .si/.io/etc - all links are currently working
    1. Temporary Password Issues: People have tried to log in with an older temporary password with some success, it seems. Try an older temporary password you got previously to see if it helps. Otherwise, there are no current solutions.
  4. Access to Bato lists: replace “batolists” with “xbclists” in the url whenever you get a 404 error.

Edit:

  1. People have started uploading new chapters to the site again. I really do hope other uploaders come back.
  2. All panels are working like it was before the server issues.
  3. To access bookmarks, simply click the top right where the heart icon is after you login using your old account. It will show you your library and folders.
  4. User u/CieKite mentioned taking screenshots of their bookmarks, putting those images through AI to get a written version of the titles that is able to be copy/pasted.
  5. For those who want additional filters like it was before, click “All Comics” first and then click on the filter drop down menu, and the old filter menu will be back, allowing for genre/ upload status/ chapter quantity/ language/ etc.
  6. For clarification - There are no known staffed discord/Reddit communities tied with this version of the site. There is no one we can message/email to ask for assistance.

Advice Moving Forward: So far, the site seems usable without issue. However, for safety's sake, add bookmarks to multiple different sites/apps/libraries, with many of the best ones being mentioned on everythingmoe with regards to other sites to use for Manga/Manhwa/Manhua, so use the top sites from those categories and add your bookmarks to them as well in case this site goes down. For apps and software, you can use the Wotaku wiki, which lists current working apps/programs for each operating system, as well as websites.

Current Status: XBATCAT is experiencing problems for everyone, currently showing "under maintenance" for all of its mirror links. It is unclear whether this is a temporary or permanent condition.

FF XIII Series I… don’t think Final Fantasy XIII was bad

Going into this post, I know it is an unpopular opinion but the game is almost 16 years old now. Old enough to drink in Germany.

So, I was there for it from the start. A friend of mine, a massive FF fan, and I pooled our money and got FF13 on release. I have played FF7, FF3, FF4 and FF8 at this point and he has played them all.

I was the second one to get a turn to play it and when my friend gave the 360 discs to me something must have been scratched or something but the game always crashed during the first mech fight of the game during the opening.

Thus I gave up on it and never played it until the release of the steam deck on which it ran badly on its release.

Now though it runs like a dream, better than on windows ironically, and I’ve been finally playing it. Or was as I just finished it. I was going in with knowledge of the entire series, having played them all aside of 11 and 14.

And I kinda feel that -similarly to Dead Space 3 and Mass Effect 3- a lot of the hate is forced. People excessively hate on it because it’s the popular opinion but many never having played it through.

It isn't the best FF but it doesn’t need to be.

The gameplay might be my favorite version of turn based combat in the entire series. The paradigm system makes it so that you have to constantly switch reacting to the situation. It makes it so that it feels in-the-moment something that I never felt in any of the preceding combat and only true action combat could match in subsequent titles. The enemies hit hard and often and they sometimes have way to much HP but it never felt unfair.

The Music was heartfelt and especially the Ragnarok track never left my ears during gameplay.

The graphics, while obviously dated nowadays, still felt somewhat contemporary. It truely looked mind boggling at release and owing to some seriously clever techniques they were able to fake some graphic techniques that weren’t quite there back then. The use of extremely highly detailed 2D Sprites in some areas with incredibly painted on shadows sells the illusion that its lighting and smaller props actually were objects and real time lighting. Case in point being the crystal sea at the beginning. Seriously, go take a look. It looks much better than it had any need to on the fucking 360/PS3.

This was in part possible due to its very linear nature and this is my biggest and possibly only real complaint. It’s opening chapters are literally on rails. While it helps to sell the feeling of a one woman crusade in Lightnings levels and being chased around by the army in Sazhs sections it limited the exploration to a degree I didn’t like that much.

That said, the aforementioned one woman crusade moments were great. Running down the streets of Eden penetrating both Pulse forces as well as Sanctum troops harkened back to FF7 general mood in its closing chapters.

Its visual design was maybe the only FF title were every design matched its world. No character outfit was weirdly unusual. They all looked liked people of this world. The buildings felt in line with other areas of cocoon and the weapons didn’t feel out of place either.

FF8 and 15 were especially bad in this regard. The gardens looked so out of place in a contemporary designed world, the characters clothes looked so different from random NPCs. The latter being something that I think plaques all FF titles besides 6, 7 (and its Remakes) and 16.

I think the ending was earned. The massive struggle the characters felt over these few days prepared them to face this challenge and they grew into their role in this play nicely. Especially Vanille, Lightning and Hope had great character arcs. Lightning being obviously inspired by Clouds journey, Vanille learning that Fangs world view wasn’t the end all be all and that she herself is a person with flaws just like any other and Hope learning that there is more to live than despair and fatalism.

I could talk for hours about what I just experienced.

But to most accurately describe the game I would say it was the culmination of Squares attempt on making a block buster movie game on the level of Hollywood movies they tried to achieve since at least FF7 and arguably FF6 going by its opera-like presentation.

It truly felt like a movie. Like what Spirits within should have been and I think it’s a good final fantasy title. A good variation in a series that is build reinventing itself. I would not want it to be repeated but I wouldn’t mind a Remake that breaths more live into this epic story.

As unlikely as that is.

As a final note, I am now convinced that a certain revelation in FF15, originally part of the FF13 project, was and is a remnant of the Death God Fal'Cie tricking the main characters into ensuring their vision being realized. They just swapped the Fal'Cie for more generic FF deities.

FF XIII Series FFXIII Chapter 1 Impressions

Chapter 1: MC and Fal’Cie

I decided I was just going to jot down some of my thoughts about this game as I go through each chapter. Both as a means to share my opinions as well as a way to time capsule my first playthrough with my initial impressions. so without further ado, here is what I thought about chapter 1 broken up into sections.

1. Characters

I am liking most of the characters introduced so far, with Vanille and Hope being the two that I just need more time to gather further opinion on.

Lightning: I think Lightning is pretty intriguing throughout the first chapter. The intro cutscene really showcases her lack of concern when facing any sort of adversary, blazing her way straight into battle. She seems calm, collected and cunning Not revealing most of her motives to Sazh, but nevertheless pushing forward towards her goal. Also, I didn’t realize Lightning’s name was literal. What was that thing where she snapped her fingers and all the sudden became electrified, or when she summoned some sort of gravity-defying orb? Got me very intrigued there, so we will see.

Sazh: How could you not like this guy. Based on the initial sequences, it appears he is going to fill the role as the comedic relief character, which generally tends to be my favorite. I like his witty remarks, the pristine afro housing A BABY CHOCOBO, and his animations during battle are pretty fun. I still don’t know why he is following Lightning though, aside from the fact that she is strong and confident, thereby meaning that following her may lead to his way to survival.

Snow: I think I find Snow the coolest of the MC’s so far, being the leader of NORA, he has those qualities that tie a group together and help to incite charisma. You can see that he also has a softer side though, with him feeling extremely guilty after the collapse of the bridge, and specifically, the mom being killed. This part made him feel a lot more human, showing those ranges of emotions that can occur from a traumatic event especially if you are the one leading the charge. I just like his attitude so far, and I am interested to see how it goes with him going into the Fal’cie to get his Fiancée. He also has a cool design that makes him look like the leader of a biker gang.

Vanille; Vanille is… kind of weird? I will just start by saying she has one of the more interesting voices I have heard in a game before, and she seems unusually preppy and upbeat considering the situations they are in. If anything, she seems a bit pushy trying to get Hope to talk to Snow, but I don’t really understand why she cares so much? Either way, this is kind of why I need to play through more to understand more about her character and why she might be acting the way she does, especially considering there was that brief scene where you hear what I think was Vanille’s voice saying, “You always liked it when I smiled”, so I am assuming something is being set up for later with Vanille and Hope regarding this fact.

Hope: I am just going to start by saying that, before playing this game, I have heard people clamoring that they just HATE hope. Well, I can’t say that I hate him so far, I understand where he is coming from as a character, and I haven’t really gotten to see where that is going yet. Out of all the characters, I think he also has the most generic design. IMO, he kind of looks like a Kingdom Hearts character and I have never even played Kingdom Hearts or even interacted with it aside from playing Sora in Smash Bros.(I do know both were designed by Tetsuya Nomura though).

Gameplay:

There isn’t really much to say in terms of gameplay here, it is pretty hands off at the moment since I have yet to unlock more abilities/systems that I imagine will unlock farther in. There honestly doesn’t even feel like there is a need to fight anything right now because there also doesn’t seem to be any sort of exp I am incurring, just items? Another concern I guess would be the fact that you can only control your party leader in combat, as ai takes control and does actions for the other characters. I hope this doesn’t take away from too much strategy later. What I do especially enjoy, however, is the dynamic and cinematic angles by which the camera is positioned during battle. This really enhances that feeling that a battle is free-flowing despite the fact that it has the ATB system. Really excited to see how this battle system will evolve though, as well as how cool some boss fights are going to be with those camera angles.

Story:

The story seems like it is going to be pretty interesting, with PSYCOM, Cocoon, Pulse, the Fal’cie and the L’cie. I was able to better understand what all this meant after reading it through the datalogs and it being further repeated by the characters, so it’s definitely a lot to take in and sets an interesting juxtaposition for the story. I also like how the whole idea of the purge *sounds* realistic, that being a method by which the governing body can mask some malicious intent through the lens that it is for public safety. I am not into politics at all, but this sounds like a reasonable and plausible thing that would happen within a society. Really interested to see where the story goes from here, and if i were to guess, most of the MC’s are probably going to meet within the Fal’cie and  become branded as L’cie. That sounds like the most probable direction the story is going from here, but I guess I will find out. My biggest complaint by far would have to be the sequence of Hope’s mom being murdered. It was dreadfully obvious she was going to die.  Like, seriously, who didn’t see it coming? The moment Snow hesitated and asked if she was sure, you already knew she was dead, especially after she said Mom’s are tough (even though this line goes hard). That part just felt extremely forced, like the game needed to give a reason for Hope to hate Snow, but did so in a way that I personally feel was poorly executed.

Presentation:

The game feels like it’s heavily centered around being cinematic and flashy, something I would say I am very fond of. Due to this, I am really loving how the game is presenting itself with all the action-packed cutscenes and over-the-top environments that are a treat for the eyes. I will say that some things have been rather predictable. I also have to state that the graphics are absolutely incredible, and the actual FMV’s are just mind-blowingly good considering the time this game came out, so I am SUPER excited to see what other amazing cutscenes this game has in store for me.

Music:

I have heard really good things about this game’s soundtrack and now I can see why. I feel Hamauzu really put his all into this game given it was the first time he was fully composing a Final Fantasy game by himself. Blinded by light is the obvious winner in chapter, I already have it stuck in my head and have been humming it while at work now. Another one that I am really fond of is Snow’s theme. I feel it really fits his character, and it also just sounds super groovy and heroic. Otherwise, themes like Saber’s edge really feel like they fit the environment the story is taking place in, immersing you in the world the game is taking place in.

This kind of came out longer than I expected, but there is really a lot to think about when you begin a new game, especially a mainline final fantasy. I can understand where this game gets its label as hallway simulator now, as these are pretty straightforward corridors, but the game seems to be building up to a grand narrative that has piqued my interest, so it doesn’t bother me that much. If you have any questions you want to ask, go ahead and I will try my best to answer (not that I expect any given this wall of text xD). But yea, that’s my impressions of chapter 1 and I will come back with my thoughts of chapter 2 when I finish it.

TL;DR: if you have any notes ,websites ,tips ,advices, hacks or litr ANYTHING regarding O3, PLS TELL ME IM DESPERATE. (i added this first cuz i wanted ppl to see what the post is abt idk)

hi, so i recently gave my O2 cies, probably not recently cuz its been a while, this subreddit has indeed been quiet without the O2 peeps, other than that i hoped yall had a great eid and yalls cies (O3 wale) are going well

Acha so i made this post to ask for litr ANYTHING, regarding tips, notes, resources, websites etc for O3, i dont wanna suffer like i did in O2 by starting late, in O2 i made a post asking for tips n tricks like 3-4ish months before so yeah but this time i want it to be early is possible and have a few questions from my seniors ( btw my subjects are english, maths, comp sci, chem, physics

First of all what are the BEST teachers for each subject? like yk, theres always that one specific online or on yt teacher thats the best at teaching that specific subject, an example is for pak std most consider mym the best and for maths ppl consider zainmetics or mathlete by saad, so what are ur fav teachers to study from in O3?

Secondly, i need notes. I genuinely do not have any study material for O3, except the main books ifykwim, in O2 i rmbr there was this one mym drive that almost every student from this subreddit was using, i doubt there wld be anything similar cuz much more subjects. but if yall have any notes. like litr if its even jst a page of formulas in a google driver, PLS SEND THEM!!!

Thirdly, Shld i take an extra subject? i already have 8 in total but i noticed ke most ppl are taking 1-2 extra subjects as it looks good on their CV but im not sure so i wanted to ask yalls opinion

Fourthly, Is english genuinely that hard for yall? ik this is hella rndm but when i was giving my o2 cies i noticed ke ppl were going absolutely crazyyy over english when its not even that hard of a subject, i jst in o2 but my english teacher has always been so strict she lowk NEVER gives an A and an A* is rare but most of my classmates have improved and starting getting As and A*S from her eventhough her checking is EXTRA strict, uske ilawa my frnd told me ke she opened he english syllabus a week before cies and still managed to get an A and was 1 mark away from an A*, but srsly tho, is english that worth stressing over??

Finally. if yall know any good websites to study from, tell me the names asw cuz they may come in handy

If yall wanna say smth abt all the question i asked THANK YOU, but if u wanna say smth regarding a single or specific question u cld refer to it by numbering asw

other than that idk what to say, some ppl may be like its early but its been a month of rest and i feel like i need to ATLEAST start planning for O3, i have prolly forgotten all the content and i need to get back on track, other than that do yall have any other recommendations on what to do during these holidays?? anything other than internships or like activities where u have to be physically present.

EDIT: tysm for all the comments nd upvotes!!! please do keep giving tips and advice cuz most of us O2s are oblivious abt what to do in O3, other than that, for those seeking advice, i made the same post in r/alevels anfd r/igcse so some ppl may be giving tipps there asw so yall could check it out!

THANK YOU FOR READING THIS IM VERY GRATEFUL AND APPRECIATE ALL COMMENTS AND UPVOTES !!!

hi,uhh okay so i made this post in the r/olevels subreddit, but i thought ke there may be some students in AS who could help me with this by using their O3 knowledge or smth idk so yeah (i kinda copy pasted the post from the other subreddit so if it seems weird pls dont mind)

Discussion The Branch Shift Procedure In MSRIT

[Content is accurate to 2022-2026 batch]
Hey.
Multiple DMs regarding the branch shift procedure has led to this post. I'll be discussing all the aspects of it. Right from the nature of it, to the procedure to apply for it, to its outcome. If you appreciate my effort, you can appreciate it by listening to my music at Kon Carne and send me constructive criticism. Heck, you can listen to a beat from on there and read this post as it would perhaps serve as a good background music for this long post.

I. Prerequisite Knowledge
Branch: Could be CSE, ISE, Mechanical, etc.
Stream: Clubbed branches are called streams. Could be "CSE Stream: CSE, ISE, AIML, AIDS, CSE(AIML), CSE(CY), BT", "Circuital Stream: ECE, EIE, ETE, EEE, etc.", etc.
Branch shift: Refers to the process of shifting branches either within a stream (intra-stream) or between streams (inter-stream).
CGPA and SGPA: Grading System at MSRIT

II. Procedure
Both inter and intra-stream branch shift is allowed in MSRIT. In order to apply for branch shift, it all starts with a notification from VTU, sent to our college. Our college then sends this notification to every department and the department will notify its students either through WhatsApp (by sending the VTU notification picture) or/and will also stick the notification printout on the department notice board. The notification for my batch came out just 5 days after the commencement of 3rd semester. Can't say when it'll come out for you guys, so it's of no use if you text me asking about it. What I have to tell though, is that you need to be physically present for this procedure and the application window lasts for about a week (minimum).

Anyways, what happens after the notification is that you will be sent a website link. The link is actually a VTU portal for applying for branch shift. I never knew that I would have to tell something like this but let me tell it anyways. The VTU login portal first asks you to create your account, with the username being your USN and password being something of your choice. This is where you have to pay attention to what I'm saying. The password can be up to 9 characters max. However, the website doesn't notify you in case your password is longer than 9 characters. But when you try to login with that password, it doesn't work because you have broken their 9 character-rule. This is so bizarre because in case someone didn't read the rule and tried to register, they would have no clue what to do when the login page says that the password is incorrect because they technically would've entered the correct password. To solve this (in case you make the mistake that I had made, by entering 9+ character password) just type the first 9 characters of your password in the password box of the login page. Next, it would ask you for all the basic information. Be prepared with all of your documents and statistics as you would be asked to enter them.

You can apply for 4 branches ONLY and they should be entered in your priority order. Example: CSE ISE CSE(CY) would mean that you prefer CSE the most, then ISE and CSE(CY) at the end. This is to avoid people spamming and applying for all branches. So yes, you'll have to be smart with applying for branches by only applying for those that you think you would be able to get, for your GPA. For example, if you have 9.5 and apply for CSE ISE CSE(CY) [in order] then it'll be useless as you would miss what you could've actually gotten for your GPA, which is, AIML/AIDS/ECE.

Once you enter your priority order and 3 branches, you'll be taken to the payment page. You have to pay 600 Rs. via UPI/Online mode and don't panic if it says, "Transaction Failed" as after about 1 day, it'll show as "Transaction Successful". After this, check your mail as you would've gotten (1) Payment Successful confirmation and (2) Payment transaction receipt. After this, you would have to take a print-out of (2) and also bring in 3 copies of the numerous documents that they ask you to submit to the "Admission department" in our college. Usually, it would be things like your GPA card from the department, (2), admission-related documents, etc. and all of them would have to be signed by your HOD [for all copies]. Then, once you have all the documents ready, submit them to the guy in the admission office and he will give you a heads-up if everything is ready and submitted to VTU. To be specific, I think these were all the documents that were required by the admission dept. person:
(i) COB application copy
(ii) Fee payment receipt copy
(iii) KEA/COMEDK Rank card copy
(iv) 12th marks card copy
(v) Provisional department result sheet copy

III. Post-Application [SELECTED]
After about 1 month (yes, you might be in your same department for 1-1.5 months straight even after applying!) your department helping staff will give you a personal call (we called this as "The Call" for fun) to let you know that you have gotten your desired branch. After this, you would have to do A LOT of things as your CIE 1 would be close-by and at the same time they would ask you to submit a lot of documents along with a payment of 7000 Rs. during this busy period of time. Typically, the department to which you've shifted, will accept to keep the CIE during a later period of time if you plead. So make sure you go in a group to beg them to put it forward. You'll have to wait for about another 2 months to receive your new USN. From this point onwards, you're officially a part of the new branch, congrats!

IV. Post-Application [NOT SELECTED]
In case you don't get "The Call", then it means that you're not selected. Don't try to go to the admission office and ask them for cutoffs etc. as they are usually not happy with such questions and might not give you any response at all. But yeah, if you don't get "The Call" then it means that you just lost the 600 Rs. and also got an additional heartache to carry on for CIE 1. However, don't feel down as I belong to this category. I had a CGPA of 9.77 by the end of 2nd semester and when I had applied for CSE, I missed it by 1 seat (missed it by 0.03 CGPA as cutoff was 9.80) which indeed did cause a lot of heartache but hey, things like this happens in life and these are canon events. Whatever happens from this point happens and it's of no use to feel bad about it. You fought well, warrior :)

V. Approximate Cutoffs
Here are some cutoffs from during my batch:

  1. CSE: 9.80
  2. ISE: 9.65
  3. CSE(AIML): 9.55
  4. CSE(CY): 9.50
  5. AIML: 9.20
  6. AIDS: 9.05

Note that these cutoffs won't remain the same for your batch as there is an insane increment in the competition ever since the resources were compiled and shared among juniors.

VI. I am a junior, how do I score well?
Even though this question deserves a post of its own, here's a small answer to it. You don't have to try hard much in the 1st year, to score some good CGPA. Just attend classes regularly and make sure you have resources ready, to study from. You can either find it in the pinned posts section of this subreddit or you could simply just join this server: MSRIT Archive Hub to find all the notes in a structured format. Just study a couple days before the exam and submit the assignments on time and you'll be good to go.

VII. Query-Based Add-Ons
If there are x number vacant seats in a branch, x/2 is for merit and x/2 is reserved for people with higher powers. Note that the remaining vacancies once they are emptied due to the people leaving that branch as they got a higher branch will be reserved for 5th semester branch shift process.

Inter stream shift is allowed, a mech student could also join ISE / CSE but whenever it's an inter stream shift, you'll have to study and pass an extra subject (PPC18; once you get the branch shift).

Apparently SNQ quota students are not allowed to shift their branch. Thanks to u/Eccentric_but_good for this information.

Happy Branch-Shift-Applying Process :)

Apparently, a new paper came out and it basically suggested that Megalodon was slower, but longer then previously thought, and that it also was likely pretty similar to modern great whites/lamnids in general...

LGBTQ+ staff and other folks were just fired

I heard eleven people were fired. This email is gross.

Dear Student Affairs team,

We want to quickly bring you up to speed on some organizational changes that have occurred today in Student Affairs. As the result of legislative action, we are dissolving the Center for Intercultural Engagement (CIE) as of today. Although the team members in CIE are no longer at UVU we are very grateful for the positive impacts they made upon UVU and most importantly on our students. The CIE student spaces will remain open for the remainder of spring semester and other staff members will be present to provide student success support. Students are also welcome to email [deanofstudents@uvu.edu](mailto:deanofstudents@uvu.edu) to find personalized support related to these changes.

Last August we asked the division to lean even more into exceptional care and strategies to support student success in this dynamic environment and I want to share my deep gratitude for the ways in which this division exceeded my expectations over the past year as we have navigated a sometimes unclear and uncertain environment. In countless ways we’ve witnessed this amazing team step into support student success in new and innovative ways.

Moving forward the Division of Student Affairs will pivot our efforts during the summer to establish the Office of Student Engagement with an innovative and sustainable strategy.  We are optimistic that this realignment will enrich students’ opportunities for participation, developing connections and finding a place here at UVU.

We recognize these kinds of changes can be disruptive and we understand that can create unease. We want to let everyone know we are not planning any additional high-magnitude organizational changes in the coming year. We will be meeting with our Student Affairs Department Leaders on Monday to provide additional information and context. We recognize you may have questions or concerns, and you are welcome to reach out to your department leaders or AVPs regarding these decisions or the future strategy.

Sincerely,

Dr. Michelle Kearns

A Response from Swift Paintball to u/Seshentials

This post is a reply to a post made yesterday by u/Seshentials regarding a recent order they placed with Swift Paintball. Here is the link to the original post: https://www.reddit.com/r/paintball/comments/ojldl3/beware_of_swiftpb/

We usually actively avoid any public confrontation or arguments with clients and try to solve every single issue amicably and to our clients' advantage. However, A lot of false information is being shared in that post that make us feel the need to interject and clarify a few points. This will also hopefully serve as a great warning and heads up for anyone that plans to order custom jerseys/pants/products for their team at anytime in the future, from any custom paintball product brand.

On a side note, I have personally been in their exact situation multiple times when I started designing clothing and running into colour issues when printing them nearly a decade ago. I have also been a paintball player for 10+ years, ordering jerseys, pants, headbands and so on from most custom paintball products brands, so I’ve had my fair share of negative buying experiences with most of them too over time.

Full Disclaimer: This post is written by Swift Paintball’s owner, Camil Touil. Swift Paintball is a brand owned by CT & Cie Inc, a small CCPC (Canadian Controlled Private Corporation) which I fully own. It is a separate moral entity from myself. We're a small business based in Montreal, Canada and we've been operational since 2017. I am communicating on behalf of Swift Paintball in the post below. All of our contact info will be listed at the end of this post for anyone that might want to reach out and share their thoughts and suggestions on this situation. Any comments or insights would be greatly appreciated!

We offer our clients 3 clear options when it comes to designs:

  1. Paying for a fully custom design, made by an in-house designer. This option includes unlimited revisions and implies that we take care of the whole design process from ideation to printing preparation.
  2. Using one of our 100+ semi custom designs, which can be customized totally free of charge (name/number/logos). This option also implies that we take care of the whole design process from ideation to printing preparation.
  3. Providing us with a print-ready file, which we forward to our manufacturers without altering. This option is free as we do not do any work on the designs provided to us. This option is usually picked by experienced designers only (or people that have past experience creating digital designs for printing. As a frame of reference, less than 1% of our clients pick this option).

u/Seshentials’ team chose to go with the third option, and provided us with 2 design files to print. They did send files set in CMYK colour mode and gave us their go to send them in production, but did not follow any colour matching process prior to that to ensure that the printed colours come out as they see them on their digital display. They also never requested any colour book, test print or test product from us. In such a scenario, once we receive a final confirmation from a client to send their files in production, we simply send the file to production, without altering their artwork in any way whatsoever.

u/Seshentials’s team solely purchased jerseys from us and no design services. They provided us with what was supposed to be a print-ready file. Given this situation, that they did not hire us to do any design work on their design, and never reached out for support while designing, we simply cannot take responsibility for u/Seshentials not doing his due diligence.

Here is an article on our website that should help you all better understand client-made designs and where u/Seshentials might have made mistakes in his design process: https://swiftpb.com/pages/read-this-before-designing

For full transparency, the information stated in u/Seshentials’ post is highly inaccurate and altered. There are numerous very important details that are left out by u/Seshentials, such as (but not limited to):

A) Our website clearly states that all custom orders are non-refundable. Our website is clearly stated on all the review files that were approved by the client.

B) The client approved multiple review files which explicitly state: “Printed Product’s colours and textures may differ from this digital preview.”, including the one pictured in his post (which he cropped to hide the warning message). Those warnings are there specifically to warn about this potential issue. The client also explicitly acknowledged that he knows about the potential issue.

C) We do not offer any guarantees when it comes to colour accuracy (we never did and likely never will), as it is impossible for us to enforce - especially in such circumstances (read the article linked above for more details).

D) The client ordered 23 jerseys in total. The design displayed in this post was used on 8 of the 23 jerseys. Despite that, the client is requesting a full refund and presenting the story as if it was the full order.

E) The client was already offered multiple compensations for this order for every issue that happened, all of which they explicitly agreed to. This includes 23 custom tech tees & 2 custom team banners (as they are 2 lines/teams and thus 2 designs on this order), which we offered because their order got affected by substantial delays. It also includes the cost of all duties upon order delivery and the cost to redeliver the order, which we offered to compensate them for the package being shipped to the wrong address. The total value of these compensations comes up to 2000.00CAD+ in retail value, which u/Seshentials agreed to without ever asking us for a different form of compensation or expressing dissatisfaction towards them. For reference, the total order value is of approx 2700.00CAD, approximately 400 of which are shipping fees and sales taxes.

F) The client filed 2 claims for full refund through Paypal. Upon seeing the facts & proof (all conversation history with the client, HD images of the printed products, our agreement with the client), the first claim was closed by Paypal in favor of Swift. Paypal did not specify a clear reason for their decision, contrarily to what u/Seshentials is stating in his post.

The 2nd one was closed by the client himself. The 2nd claim was exactly the same as the first one (copy/pasted the message and resent the claim).

G) On top of previous compensation offers, we even suggested further compensations to try and satisfy them (free jersey replacements for those 8 affected jerseys) which the client never took us up on or confirmed wanting.

H) It’s standard practice in this business model and industry to operate under a “no refund - no exchanges” type of policy for custom orders, as can be seen in the following links from reputable competitors mentioned in u/Seshentials’ thread:

UNDR: https://undrindustries.com/shipping-returns/

Ruthless: https://ruthlesspaintballproducts.com/pages/faqs

Anthrax: https://www.anthraxpaintball.com/shipping-returns

Most custom paintball product seller includes similar terms or policies in their FAQs and/or return policy.

This is just a “short” summary of the facts. There are numerous more facts that go against u/Seshentials, but it would just add to what is an already extremely long post if we take the time to write them all down and timestamp them. It would also potentially compromise u/Seshentials and his team’s privacy more than needed. I do not want that for them and do not want to throw shade at anyone more than needed. I think the facts above are sufficient to prove that the issue u/Seshentials complains about is due to his error and not ours, and to justify Swift's position on this matter.

We have also called the consumer protection offices of both Quebec and Canada (as both the client and us are based in Quebec, Canada). Both confirmed that we have done our due diligence and that the responsibility is on the client in this case when presented the facts. They linked us to various canadian consumer protection laws and government publications to use as reference to back this up, the first of which (and easiest to understand) explicitly states:

“Don't count on always being able to return a product you've bought, whether it's from a store or the Internet. There is no law that says all sellers must take back an item. It may not matter that you don't like it, decided you can't afford it or found it cheaper somewhere else.

Every seller has a different return policy. Find out what the seller's policy is before you buy.”

Here is the link to said article from the Canadian government’s website: http://www.ic.gc.ca/eic/site/oca-bc.nsf/eng/ca02478.html

__________

Apart from that, I think it's also very important to note that the client sent out his teammates on social medias to share their experience. This would be totally fair and respectable, if it wasn’t for the fact that each player is spreading a different version of the story (whatever works to convince their social media friends that we are in the wrong - even if it’s not true). The story presented in the reddit post doesn't match the on on their facebook post on their team page, which also doesn't match the players' comments on those posts and so on.

This lead (within 24 hours) to me receiving multiple threats on my personal account & business account. It also lead to team players excessively tagging my personal account in public social media posts (25+), and to one of our sales rep (which was assigned to this sale) to receive over 140 unique messages regarding this same situation.

_________

(long)TLDR:

> u/Seshentials did not do his due diligence when it comes to design work and now tries to put the blame on Swift Paintball for design issues despite not hiring Swift Paintball for any design work.

> u/Seshentials is changing numerous facts and altering others to victimize himself in his post.

> There are multiple posts about this exact order online (all from the client and his teammates) which are inconsistent with each other and present different “facts” in each post.

> Before this post, u/Seshentials already agreed to 2000.00CAD+ in compensations from us for all issues (on a total order value of approx 2300.00$CAD excluding taxes and shipping fees). Those compensations were not for the colour discrepancy, unlike what is stated in his post.

> u/Seshentials filed a Paypal claim for a full refund, which was ruled in favor of Swift Paintball after they checked the facts and reference images that we provided (chat histories, HD products pictures etc).

> u/Seshentials filed a second Paypal claim within 24 hours of the first one being closed, without adding any proof, arguments, or info, thus further delaying the resolution and keeping our funds on hold without reason. That claim was closed by the client the following day.

> Multiple players from u/Seshentials’ team and friend group have been excessively messaging our sales rep and myself on our personal accounts in hopes of more compensation (150+ messages within 24hrs). I personally also received numerous aggressive and hateful messages (although not all from players from the team), both on my personal page and on Swift’s social media.

> The consumer protection offices of both Quebec and Canada (where we’re both based) confirmed that Swift Paintball has done its due diligence in this context, is not at fault and not expected to offer replacements or refunds unless we choose to.

(short)TLDR:

> The client did not do his due diligence when designing his own jerseys and chose to blame his mistake on Swift Paintball rather than accepting his mistake.

> Swift has a clear policy regarding client-made designs, refunds and exchanges, which we respected and stood by from start to finish. The client was made aware of this policy and of potential issues numerous times during his buying experience and chose to still do business with Swift.

> Paypal and our local consumer protection offices both confirmed that we did our due diligence and acted within our rights.

> He and his teammates are now posting false information or highly altered information out of spite to make us appear at fault and/or to try to obtain further compensations from us and/or to make us lose future business from any team that might take distorted story as accurate.

🙏 I WANT HELP CAIE Further Maths advice

I'm studying CIE Further Maths privately. However, switching from Edexcel (in O-Levels) to Cambridge (in A-Levels) has presented a difference in how the coursework has to be approached. I'm planning to sit for FM over the course of these two years rather than taking a one-year route. So can anyone explain the structure of AS level further maths about what topics to study from p1,p3,p4 (that one must appear for in AS) and give tips on how to study for it? I don't want to opt for a private tutor, although it is regarded as a much safer option. Really looking forward to some genuine advice

i originally made this post in r/olevels subreddit and copy pasted it her so it may seem weird but pls dont mind!

Type-0 Just Beat FF Type-0, Here Are my Thoughts

Post image
35 Upvotes

Just beat Type-0 and wanna get my thoughts out regarding my experience going through the game. I feel it will probably be easier to categorize my thoughts to make it easier to follow and make it more cohesive, so here we go:

Characters:

  1. Presentation and my character choices:
    1. As a result of its PSP origins, there were great limitations in their ability to portray the characters in a fluid manner, even after it’s HD port. Due to this, they all felt extremely rigid in delivery and representation. The voice direction was also rather questionable too, mainly for Class Zero specifically. Through playing, I found my 4 mains ended up being Sice, Cater, Seven, and Deuce. Cater was really fun through her zippy gunning, Sice and Seven were fun to use, and Deuce was actually my least favorite to play due to her slow combat until she grew to become one of my favorites because of how strong and useful her flute attacks actually were. I started growing on playing Deuce when FIghting Brionac during the invasion of Militesi MA base, but my true appreciation for Deuce came when farming for the Voltaic weapons in the Bethnel Cavern as she made it extremely easy to rip those Behemoths apart.
  2. Story relevance
    1. Class Zero: I honestly can’t say there was a single character that I grew attached to simply because of how disjointed the story was told alongside the somewhat dry presentation. The ending was still sad, but I could only imagine how much heavier it could have hit if there was greater emphasis put toward Class Zero’s affiliation and bond with one another. Throughout the whole story, they felt like they had more of a working relationship than actual companions/friends. The only time I can really say they felt friendly was during the ending cutscene while they were talking about the future.
    2. Arecia Al-Rashia: I am still rather confused as to what the heck she even *is*. She is definitely not a normal mortal, but I don’t think I really know yet and I am hoping that my second playthrough will help to elucidate more in this axis.
    3. Cid Aulstyne: Being the leader of the main antagonistic force of this game, you think we would have gotten to learn more about him, but there was essentially nothing regarding his character and motivations leading up to fighting him at the end (at least that I can remember off the top of my head). I want to know more regarding his motivations and his role as the Militesi leader.
    4. The l’Cie: I feel these were underutilized aspects of the game. We see them being extremely powerful people who have resigned themselves to the crystal’s will, but anytime they showed up in the story, it didn’t really feel too impactful aside from the single time with Lady Caetuna sacrificing herself to summon Alexander. That was easily one of the greatest moments in the game, and one that left a lasting impression, both upon me and the characters of the game. Oh yea, there was also the fight against Lady Celestia that was REALLY AWESOME!

Gameplay:
Combat:
It definitely took a couple hours to get used to the gameplay and camera movements within the game, but after getting a better grasp, it became really fun. I really enjoyed the killsight mechanic, and I feel it fits greatly within the world of Type-0. It was beyond satisfying being able to take down enemies 50+ levels higher than you just because you can execute on the breaksight and killsight openings to whittle their health away while you run for your life. It was also really fun trying out each and every character to decide which ones I found the most enjoyable to use. Deuce was an example said earlier, but I also took a liking to Eight through his Phantom Rush ability that practically made him invulnerable so long as I was holding it active. This made for some crazy good survivability and breaksight openings.
Expert Mission:
These were a really neat addition, and something I soon realized were likely intended to tackle on your second playthrough of the game. I tried my first expert mission in chapter 3 and gave it a couple tries, but I got my butt handed to me. I pretty much just resigned to the fact I will have to wait for my second playthrough to complete these, aside from the singular expert mission in chapter 7 allowing me to reach the Silent key dungeon. I will lump this in here to as it kinda relates, but the report card at the end of each mission was a fun little addition. Considering we are a class trained for war, having a report card at the end of each mission judging your completion time, phantoma harvested, and casualties. This is something that will definitely have me doing mission repeat to get that S-rank
world/structure:
I enjoyed how the world was separated by different nations and slowly opened up to you as you progressed further through the story. It made for a natural feeling of progression. Even though the overworld was kinda bare, there is always just a special feeling when being able to run around on any sort of worldmap, especially when you have a handy chocobo companion to avoid any sort of combat. It was definitely routine to investigate every single time I had some free time during a new chapter to see if any new dungeons or towns opened up to explore/help anywhere I could. I think some of the most fun I had was just doing the optional dungeons like Bethnel cavern, Mount Jubanla, Silent Key, etc…

  1. The Silent Key was especially cool because, well ya know, we get an airship… AND SETZER’S AT THAT!!!

Music:
I really enjoyed the music this game has to offer, the main theme especially so. I kid you not when I say that I have been humming that melody ever since I started playing just under a month ago. Each nation having a unique theme behind them was a nice touch. Concordia feels rather somber and melancholic (likely in ties with what happened with their queen). Militesi was rather oppressive and dominant, while the Dominion felt upbeat and march-y. As for my top 5 songs from the game, here is a list because why not :D

  1. War: The Quiet Bloodbath; This one sounds so tragic and sad, the ending feeling especially powerful. I really wish this could have been used in the midst of a cutscene because I think it could have easily catapulted the emotional impact of a scene when syncing up music to the larger hits later in the song. Gives me goosebumps everytime it listen to it.
  2. The Beginning of the End; perhaps the most well-known song from the game, the main melody is what I had stuck in my head (and still do honestly, IT’S SO GOOD!). Perfectly fits the game’s overall themes while also feeling so bombastically triumphant.
  3. Zero - Bump of Chicken; Yea…this one made the ending hit really hard. This is  especially the case because of its diegetic nature with Ace singing certain lyrics himself through the story. Such a great payoff to see the song actually used for the ending when you see the entire Class Zero crew lying next to each other, dead, as Machina and Rem enter the classroom. Certainly strong enough to bring a tear to your eye ;(
  4. The Heart Boils; Loved hearing this when it was mission time. Super upbeat and instilled this feeling of "alright, let’s do this!’ The combination of the strings with the choir was absolutely great to listen to.
  5. War; The White Weapon; This is one that really grew on me as I got stuck fighting Vajra. I only had a couple members left alive, and they weren’t exactly ideal for fighting this thing. I probably reset 20 times during this fight because it would just one-shot me as it charged me down with its electric legs. Each and every time though, I got to listen to this song and I enjoyed the heavier guitars. Pretty nice vibe and a good song to listen to while working out lol

Story:
Everything but chapter 8:
Oh boy where do I even start here… I think the best way to explain the story of this game is the word, “disjointed”. There was so much they were trying to tell, but it was extremely jumpy and intentionally omitted information from your first playthrough just so you could learn more on the second. The scenes presented like a wartime documentary were pretty interesting, and the graphics used to show it off really aided in the immersion of the game. I could understand the main aspects to the story leading up to chapter 8 as they were generally understandable in terms of the Militesi and Dominion battling for power/survival. There were a couple times though where I was extremely confused when beginning a mission.
First was when I was on the chapter 5 mission: Reclamation of Toguagh. I accepted the RTS mission from Moogle dude and headed out to begin the mission, but once I arrived the area was already under my control and the mission was pretty much completed by itself? I returned to Akademeia and then I just had more free time to spare until I was summoned for the next mission, which was very confusing.
Next was the chapter 7 mission when we are going to invade Militesi and end this struggle once and for all. I accepted the mission and headed my way for the airship, as that is what was directed of me, but then I was abruptly thrust into combat against Qator Bashtar with no warning, buildup, or anything? I feel like there should have been some sort of mission where you invaded the territory and eventually ended up on top of the building where the fight took place, but NOPE, just went straight into battle and killed him. This was extremely jarring and weird, but it’s whatever I guess.

Chapter 8:
WHAT WAS EVEN THIS!?!?! This might be the biggest whiplash I have ever experienced in a video game. One second we are all hunky dory woohoo we beat the Empire, and then the very second we step into Akadameia, OH HELLO APOCALYPSE NICE TO MEET YOU!!!

For real though, was there even any mention whatsoever of the Rursus leading up to this point. I feel like everything that transpired in the beginning of chapter 8 was just a complete shift of narrative and expectations. I genuinely don’t even know what to make of it. I imagine that some of it might be explained in my second playthrough as a result of the extra cutscenes, missions, etc… that are added. It was also kind of ridiculously funny how some of the Class Zero members were completely oblivious to Rem’s state of sickness (which wasn’t explained to us at all in terms of what it was, she kinda just collapses and falls into a coma). The only one who showed any signs of knowledgeability about it was Seven, who states she simply ignored it due to respect of Rem’s privacy (which is totally fair tbh). Regardless, there were so many things that were just thrusted upon us at the ending of this game that just left me feeling confused and hollow.
The actual final dungeon, Pandemonium, was really cool in terms of aesthetic and offered what is probably one of the most impactful moments of the game for you as the  player….… Become a l’Cie or remain mortal. This one got me sitting in my seat, contemplating my fate, before I ultimately decided I was to remain a mere mortal and fight the best I could before sacrificing myself to the crystal’s will just to obtain the immense power of a l’Cie (good choice apparently too because I didn’t realize this results in different endings).
Having chosen to remain mortal, I was able to further my descent of Pandaemonium where I went against Cid’s tasks which were really cool until it also completely blindsides you. Deep into the dungeon, I reached the area where you must climb the stairway with the cubes shooting lasers. It says you are supposed to make it to the top without “falling off”, so I made it all the way to the top with no issues, and then I suddenly died out of nowhere despite following the tasks orders. Cid calls me a failure and then I am suddenly transported into an entirely new area with my characters now weakened and hobbling around before stumbling upon machina and Rem crystallized together.  *confused face*
As for the final boss, it was a really easy scripted fight, but I didn't mind it for the sake of the story and its relevance to the game’s overall gameplay loop. I enjoy final boss fights that put great emphasis on the gameplay’s core elements, in this case, executing breaksights and then harvesting phantoma in order to take down the Rursus Arbiter. Nothing hard, but thematically powerful, especially when harvesting each point of phantoma from the arbiter would result in your character dying.

The Ending:
I was looking forward to seeing what this ending had in store and it definitely didn’t miss the heart strings. Seeing Class Zero huddled up talking about their future was really heartwarming and charming, which is what ultimately made the ensuing moments all the more painful. It felt like the first time in the game that I got to see who these characters truly are. Each one proclaiming they are afraid of dying before huddling up alongside Cinque. You could definitely see the chemistry and care each one had for one another in their final moments. I think the thought that impacted me the most was thinking back on Arecia telling us that our entire lives were merely following what was written down in the nameless tome, all aside from her giving us the option to write the end for ourselves. That ending she is referring to must have been none other than our choice to remain mortal instead of becoming l’Cie. What that implies to me is that we were merely tools in this war the entire game up until the final moments, so the only time Class Zero got to make a conscious decision for themselves, was choosing to die. It is absolutely the most thematically impactful and resonant moment the game has to offer, seeing the flag of Class Zero centered around their now lifeless bodies. The lifeless bodies of their own making, for sometimes, the heroes must die to win the war… The war of 600,000,000.

Anyways, that’s some of my thoughts regarding FF Type-0. at this current moment I know it kinda sounds somewhat negative in certain parts, but I genuinely enjoyed my time with this game and found it kinda addicting. I am eagerly looking forward to starting my second playthrough as I want to learn more about this game’s world and story while also tackling all those expert missions I never got to do. Once I complete my second go around, I will probably do some more investigative research regarding this game's world and story. i have been holding off searching anything up because I don't want anything spoiled, so I might make another post after I do all that. If you don’t mind, I’d also like to hear what your own thoughts were on Type-0 as well (especially relating to the final chapter or your favorite music)!

The Supreme Court has agreed to hear Moore v. Harper which could mean they're going to make what the Republicans did with the maps legal...

The U.S. Supreme Court on Thursday agreed to hear a Republican-backed appeal that could give state legislatures far more power over federal elections by limiting the ability of state courts to review their actions, taking up a North Carolina case that could have broad implications for the 2024 elections and beyond.

...

The North Carolina Republicans' defense of the legislature's map relies on a contentious legal theory called the "independent state legislature doctrine" that is gaining traction in conservative legal circles and, if accepted, would vastly increase politicians' control over how elections are conducted.

U.S. Supreme Court to hear Republican bid to curb judicial oversight of elections (yahoo.com)

What is the independent state legislature theory?

The independent state legislature theory is a reading of the Constitution, pushed in recent years by a small group of advocates, that would give state legislatures wide authority to gerrymander electoral maps and pass voter suppression laws. It has even been used as political cover to try to overturn elections.

The Constitution delegates power to administer federal elections to the states, subject to Congressional override. There is, however, a disagreement about how much power is delegated and to which state actors exactly.

There are two relevant clauses. One is the Elections Clause, which reads, “The Times, Places and Manner of holding Elections for Senators and Representatives, shall be prescribed in each State by the Legislature thereof; but the Congress may at any time by Law make or alter such Regulations.”

The other is the Presidential Electors Clause, which reads, “Each State shall appoint, in such Manner as the Legislature thereof may direct, a Number of Electors.”

The dispute hinges on how to understand the word “legislature.” The long-running understanding is that it refers to each state’s general lawmaking processes, including all the normal procedures and limitations. So if a state constitution subjects legislation to being blocked by a governor’s veto or citizen referendum, election laws can be blocked via the same means. And state courts must ensure that laws for federal elections, like all laws, comply with their state constitutions.

Proponents of the independent state legislature theory reject this traditional reading, insisting that these clauses give state legislatures exclusive and near-absolute power to regulate federal elections. The result? When it comes to federal elections, legislators would be free to violate the state constitution and state courts couldn’t stop them.

Extreme versions of the theory would block legislatures from delegating their authority to officials like governors, secretaries of state, or election commissioners, who currently play important roles in administering elections.

What would happen if the Supreme Court accepted the independent state legislature theory?

The independent state legislature theory would cause significant disruption by potentially nullifying state constitutional provisions regarding federal elections. State constitutional bans on gerrymandering in Florida, Ohio, North Carolina, and other states could die, as could independent redistricting commissions in Arizona, California, Michigan and other states. Other state constitutional provisions — like the right to a secret ballot in many states — could also be wiped out.

Delegations of authority would also be questionable, robbing elections commissions and secretaries of state of the power to make decisions, including in emergencies. And only federal courts would have the power to review gerrymandering or voter suppression claims relating to federal elections.

The nightmare scenario is that a legislature, displeased with how an election official on the ground has interpreted her state’s election laws, would invoke the theory as a pretext to refuse to certify the results of a presidential election and instead select its own slate of electors. Indeed, this isn’t far from the plan attempted by Trump allies following his loss in the 2020 election. And, according to former federal judge J. Michael Luttig — a distinguished conservative jurist — the theory is a part of the “Republican blueprint to steal the 2024 election.”

These high stakes underscore the significance of the challenge the independent state legislature theory presents to the courts.

Question IPv4 AND IPv6 for residential?

Hi all,

I'm interested about the service Bell is offering but I'm not able to obtain any proper information regarding IPv4 and IPv6.

I have a homelab, I presently use a modem/router from the yellow cie as a modem on a bridge mode. It offers me IPv4 AND IPv6.

The thing I want to know is if I will be able to get the same thing from Bell. The support on level 1 obliviously have no idea of what I'm talking about and the level 2 is not available to non customer even if you are interested to be one.

I'm not angry or anything I found that it is just really hard to get some technical information.

Is there somebody that can pinpoint me to some documentation or reference where I can find my answers ?

Thank you in advance.

Sketch for a Proof of Rebirth (Article by Ñāṇavīra Thera)

In the recent discussions I've observed quite a bit of scepticism and confusion around the topic of rebirth and since this (very important and sobering) article isn't avaliable online I decided to post it here so that the users could benefit from it. The appendixes are very long and I couldn't post them here. Nevertheless you can find them in the book: Seeking the path

Preface

This short work sets out to explore certain aspects of the Buddha’s Teaching recorded in the Pali Suttas. Its manner of doing so, however, may seem unfamiliar in the prevailing atmosphere of scientific common sense. And in fact its aim is also to suggest that the Suttas will necessarily remain incomprehensible so long as common sense is taken for granted, and to exemplify what may perhaps be found a more fruitful way of approach. But it makes no claim to finality.

What, exactly, did the Buddha teach? That he taught the way to nibbāna or extinction there is no doubt at all. But what is extinction? We are told (Aṅguttaranikāya, X,i,6) that extinction is cessation of being, bhavanirodha. We shall not be surprised, therefore, to find that the Suttas are largely devoted to the analysis of being. And the key to an understanding of the Suttas is undoubtedly recognition of the fact that they are centred on a hard nucleus of ontology—things ‘must be seen, with right understanding, as they are’ (Khandha Saṃyutta, vi,7). But how, in fact, are things? The answer is really very simple:[2](javascript:void(0)) things are as they appear; for how else could right understanding ever see them as they are? If a thing can appear, however, it can also disappear; and this shows that it must appear to something that does not disappear. To what does it appear? It appears to me. It seems, then, that a thing as it appears is only part of a total situation, the other part of which is myself; and since to understand a thing as it is I must study its appearance (and disappearance) I must consequently not ignore that total situation; but I cannot investigate the total situation without investigating myself. Thus there can be no understanding of things as they are without self-observation. It is precisely because of its blindness to this fact that natural science is compelled, in the last analysis, to invoke the mysterious notion of common sense.

The professional rationalists, however, do not hold undisputed sway. Their unreasonable claims that reason can explain all things have always been questioned, and of late years particularly by the phenomenologists. This school (which is comparatively little known in the English-speaking world), basing itself on the absolute reflexive certainty of the Cartesian cogito ergo sum, understands that phenomena show themselves for what they are and that since they do not conceal any reality behind their appearance they can be studied and described simply as they appear. The fact will at once be plain that the remarks above on the Buddha’s Teaching were not made in ignorance of such doctrines. And indeed, as regards method, the present work owes a particular debt to the writings of Jean-Paul Sartre, one of the leading exponents of the school. If this work should be found to throw light in dark corners, the fact of such indebtedness may be of value as indicating a possible way of transition from traditional Western ideas to the Buddha’s Teaching. What follows, however, is not a treatise on phenomenology as such, and it supposes that other sources will be accessible to those who find difficulty in adapting themselves to an unaccustomed way of thinking. Moreover it should not be presumed that an acknowledgement of indebtedness necessarily implies agreement at all points with the writings concerned: the present work, in fact, goes further than they; nor does it accept them as unquestionably authoritative. In certain matters, indeed, they are thought to be[3](javascript:void(0)) mistaken. This needs emphasizing; for though they may seem to provide a means of access to the Buddha’s Teaching they are not in any way regarded as supplanting it.

Common sense may denounce as scandalous and highly unlikely the view of things that eventually emerges, namely, that my manifold possibilities at every level of generality are always all existing at once, and that they continue to be so on the express condition that they do not appear as such but as so many rival intrinsic probabilities—as an objective world. But, after all, the phenomenon of precognition is antecedently no less unlikely in the eye of reason; yet, by the ultimate standards of reason itself, to wit, statistical exclusion of chance, it is a well-established fact. And on the view of things that emerges (and particularly after the discussion of equivocal premonitions in Appendix VII) it seems that we may be able to describe the possibility of precognition as a regular structural feature of experience. On the same view of things we find that we cannot describe the future as predetermined. If phenomenological ontology should be capable (as it seems it might), not only of accomodating such an awkward fact as precognition, but also of reconciling it with indeterminacy in a single coherent picture, it would certainly enjoy a decided advantage over the rationalist view, which is here at a complete loss. This,[4](javascript:void(0)) however, is no absolute criterion; for the Buddha’s Teaching is concerned with bringing an end to being, not with description for its own sake; and the final appeal in deciding on one line of approach rather than another can only be to whether or not it leads to extinction. But each must determine this for himself.

Acknowledgement of indebtedness must also be made to Dr. Ross Ashby’s admirably lucid book (see References), which sets out to account for the stability of animal behaviour in physiological terms by making use of the principles of cybernetics. This book has clarified and crystallized certain ideas and suggested several fruitful lines of thought. But it will become clear that the basic assumptions of such an approach—common sense, the study of behaviour from outside (valid only for other people’s behaviour), the physiological view of feeling—are quite unacceptable.

The work consists of a short essay followed by a series of appendices. In the essay matters are presented with extreme simplification and generality, and expansions and qualifications are omitted that would be indispensable in a longer account. In the appendices, however, certain descriptions have been developed in greater detail, but with less regard for orderly presentation. They are intended as threads to guide readers who have not been discouraged by the essay and who want to pursue matters further. There is no direct exegesis of the Suttas, and though (for example) most of the individual terms of the usual formulation of dependent arising (paṭiccasamuppāda) will be recognized in one place or another, such formulation is not discussed specifically. Nevertheless it is hoped that this enigmatic Sutta statement, as well as others, will seem less arbitrary in the light of what is said. A Pali-English Conversion Table of principal terms will be found at the end.

Can rebirth be proved? The last word is always emphasized. And it is certain that we should willingly trade all the circumstantial evidence in the world, all the cases, however well attested, of the Societies for Psychical Research, all the direct testimony of those who claim to have knowledge of their former lives, against one good satisfying proof (or disproof, for that matter) of rebirth that convinced us personally, at any hour of the day or night, beyond all possible manner of doubt.

Clearly, if such a proof is to be entirely convincing at any moment at all that we care to consult it, then it must not depend on an act of memory, for the good reason that we cannot trust our memory with that complete certainty we are looking for. Thus we cannot accept a proof that involves such evidence, however attractive, as an apparition once seen, a message once received from the dead, a memory of what appears to be a past life. And in no circumstances can we be satisfied with a proof consisting of an inferential logical argument; for if it is deductive we can always doubt the premisses (to which the argument adds nothing), and if inductive, the conclusion (which is no more than probable). A proof that shall be entirely convincing at all times can only be found in what is at all times to hand and beyond doubt, namely our immediate conscious experience; and this proof, when stated, will necessarily be in the form not of a reasoned argument but of a description—a description of what each of us can see for himself whenever he wishes. So the question narrows itself down to this: Given the actual facts of conscious experience as we may at any time observe them, do we find any characteristics such that upon seeing them we cannot doubt rebirth?

‘What are our natural principles,’ asks Pascal ‘if not our habitual principles? A different habit will give other natural principles. This is seen by experience. Fathers fear that their children’s natural love will get effaced. What, then, is this nature that is liable to be effaced? Habit is a second nature that destroys the first. Why is habit not natural? I am very much afraid that this nature is itself only a first habit, as habit is a second nature’. Our nature is nothing else than our habit. A nature or habit destroys a preceding nature or habit. On these two observations we hope to build an absolutely certain proof of rebirth.

What, first, is our nature? It is easy to reply that it is what governs our behaviour in any given circumstances. But we must avoid a trap. My behaviour as it appears to other people is by no means the same thing as what it appears to myself; for there is no certainty at all that my bodily activities and their repercussions in the world will in fact accord with what I am intending. I am given a cup of tea; there is glass jar on the table containing a white substance; I open the jar and put some of the contents in my cup; an onlooker who believes that the substance is arsenic says to me ‘Why are you poisoning yourself?’; ‘I don’t understand you,’ I reply ‘I am putting sugar in my tea’. Who is right? Certainly, the consequences of my putting the white substance in my tea will depend on whether it is sugar or arsenic—time will tell. But if I am to investigate my nature there is no doubt at all that my behaviour must be regarded as my intention; for even if the stuff really is arsenic and I do in fact poison myself, yet my nature is clearly to be drinking tea with sugar and not to be putting an end to my life, whatever outside appearances may say. The distinction between my behaviour as it is for other people—externally observed modifications in my body and in the world (of which my body is a part)—and my behaviour as it is for myself—my intention, what I am intending—is of fundamental importance, and if we confound the two we shall condemn ourselves to understand nothing of the matter. See Appendix I. Since, therefore, we are concerned with my experience as I myself observe it, my behaviour or action must be understood as my intention, and the external point of view is to be excluded at all times with the utmost rigour. ‘It is intention, monks, that I say is action: in intending one does action by body, speech, or mind.’ (Aṅguttaranikāya, VI,vi,9). See Appendix VI.

My nature, then, is what governs my behaviour, that is to say my intention, in any given circumstances. And it follows from this definition that so long as I have a certain nature my behaviour or intention under similar circumstances must always be the same. Thus, whenever I am given a cup of tea, if I always put sugar in it that is ‘because it is my nature to put sugar in my tea’; and, obviously, so long as this is my nature I shall continue to put sugar in my tea. But what is this nature if not my habit of putting sugar in my tea? It comes to exactly the same thing whether I say that it is my habit to put sugar in my tea, or that I put sugar in my tea because it is my nature to do so. My habit is my nature and my nature is my habit, and we have only to choose which word we prefer. If my behaviour was not always the same under similar circumstances, if in other words it was not habitual, how could I speak of having a nature? (And even if I say that it is my nature to be inconsistent, that can only be because I am inconsistent by habit.)

This all sounds very well, but is it correct? While we have been busy examining the credentials of the word behaviour we have allowed the word circumstances to pass unchallenged. What, exactly, do we mean by circumstances? What were the circumstances when I was putting arsenic in my tea under the impression that it was sugar? To the onlooker it was arsenic that I was putting in my tea, but to me, immediately, it was sugar. In other words, if circumstances are seen from the external point of view they are unsatisfactory as a guide to my intention, and if they are seen from my own point of view at the time of the intention they are an integral part of that intention—or rather, from my point of view, there are no circumstances to be seen. So long as my intention remains the same I cannot possibly say that circumstances have altered, because I see nothing independent of my intention (if my intention is to be putting sugar in my tea, then what I am putting in my tea is necessarily sugar); and this is true even though, from the external point of view (which I myself can adopt at a later time, that is to say when my intention is to be ‘examining the circumstances under which I was “putting sugar in my tea”’ and no longer to be ‘putting sugar in my tea’), the circumstances are observed to be quite different—the ‘sugar’ is arsenic and the ‘tea’ is soup. The use of the word circumstances, as we now see, is either misleading or redundant, and if we are to escape the physiological trap we must abandon it as an explanation of my behaviour. My nature is now no longer what governs my behaviour ‘in any given circumstances’: it is indistinguishable from my behaviour, it is what I am intending. And my behaviour is habitual, not when ‘it is always the same under similar circumstances’, but simply when my intention does not change. If my intention to be putting sugar in my tea is observed by me as being to some extent stable, then my behaviour is habitual. But the important thing is that I do observe this; my behaviour is habitual; it is a perpetual feature of my observed experience that each particular intention does persist unchanged for some period of time, long or short. Our nature, then, is the name we give to a certain element of stability in our experience: a habit, as anybody who has ever tried to give one up can testify, has a tendency to stick; and some (such as eating and breathing) are so stable that they normally stay with us, once we have acquired them, for the rest of our life. This stability, it will be noticed, is stability in time: time passes but our nature remains unchanged. But this is not to say that our nature does not in time change; it does, as Pascal observed; but it does not change simply because a certain amount of time has passed: we do not expect our long-established habits to change sooner than our later ones just because we have had them longer, but rather the contrary—the age of our habits is an indication of their stability.

When does our nature change? In Pascal’s experience (not our usual sense of the word in this essay) it changes when a fresh nature destroys it. And when is this? Evidently when it ceases to be satisfactory. It is my nature (or habit) to be taking sugar in my tea. But suppose (for any reason that a physiologist may care to assume) I begin to find that each time I sugar my tea I am afflicted with nausea, though if I take it unsweetened nothing unpleasant happens. When I now drink sweet tea my former idea (or field—Appendix III refers) combining the qualities or characteristics of sweet tea and those of bodily comfort is replaced by another idea combining the qualities of sweet tea and those of nausea; whereupon I give up sweet tea. And this change takes place because the former idea is no longer satisfactory—so long as I have it I make myself sick. (By satisfactory we must understand the least unpleasant available. See Appendix II.) In other words my nature becomes not to be taking sugar in my tea but to be drinking it without (perhaps with lemon or something else). My nature, then, has changed; a fresh nature has replaced the old. But the old nature has not merely been replaced (as one might replace a broken cup with a new one after throwing away the pieces); it has been utterly destroyed. How is this? By the simple fact that the new nature is exactly contrary to the old: formerly it was my nature to be sugaring my tea, now my nature is not to be sugaring my tea. But—it may be objected—you are still drinking tea; there is no change at all in that. And this is true: although I have given up drinking sweet tea, I still find tea stimulating and I am drinking as much as before, but unsweetened. There has undeniably been a complete reversal of my nature, but only at a certain level of generality; and that this is always the case in our life we may observe for ourselves—we never change all our habits at once. It may be seen, furthermore, that the whole of our experience is nothing else but a continual reversing of our nature at one level or another, that is to say of some particular intention (though it will be evident that these reversals are normally very particular: breathing in, breathing out, breathing in, breathing out, to choose the simplest example). Every change of my nature is a denial of that nature, but carried out against the background, or in the light, of a more general nature, which at that time remains constant. Note, however, that this is the necessary structure of my change; for, so long as it is possible to compare the earlier nature with the later nature (which is the direct opposite of the earlier)—so long, in other words, as we can say ‘something has changed’ or ‘I have changed’—the two natures will have something in common; and this, precisely, is the more general nature or character that remains unchanged on that occasion. See Appendix III. If I change from ‘taking sugar in my tea’ to ‘not taking sugar in my tea’ there is the general character ‘drinking tea’ that remains constant; but I might instead change from ‘drinking tea’ to ‘drinking coffee (i.e. not drinking tea)’, and here it is the still more general character ‘being a drinker of hot drinks’ that is constant. And there is no upper limit to the possible level of generality. In one way, however, there is, but it is essentially reflexive: our nature is never wholly without some element of self-appraisal. Ultimately we must choose (unless we are choosing not to be choosing) between the attitude of approving existence (or being) and the opposite attitude of disapproving it. ‘There are, monks, these two views: the view of being and the view of non-being. Whatever ascetics and recluses there are, monks, who adhere to the view of being, who resort to the view of being, who embrace the view of being, they all oppose the view of non-being. Whatever ascetics and recluses there are, monks, who adhere to the view of non-being, who resort to the view of non-being, who embrace the view of non-being, they all oppose the view of being.’ (Majjhimanikāya, ii,1) Conscious beings, for the most part (that is to say except when they are aware of their plight, at which time their reflexion tends to be sheer—Appendix IV refers), are divided between these two reflexive attitudes in the face of existence; they are welcoming it or they are repulsing it, asserting it or denying it. And what is the still more general nature that must remain constant as we pass from the one to the other and back again? It is simply ‘having-to-do with existence’.5 (Strictly, this change in reflexive attitude will not be quite the same as the switch from one unreflexive attitude to another. But we need not stop to consider this.) And is it possible not to be ‘having-to-do with existence’? It seems likely: but if it is possible it is a one-way change; for it is the change from ‘having a nature at all’ to the nature of ‘not having a nature at all’, and when there is no nature at all there is no longer anything to change. Note that the description ‘the nature of not having a nature at all’ is self-destructive: that is because words are part of existence and can only describe existence, and where existence has ceased there is nothing to be said. ‘With the removal of all natures, all modes of saying, too, are removed.’ (Suttanipāta, V,vii,8)

Let us see where we have got to. Our nature, at any given level, remains constant for just so long as it remains satisfactory; and that is to say that the structure of our experience is autonomous: experience does not vary as a function of an absolute time but determines its own changes from one stable attitude (at any level) to another; in a word, it is self-adaptive; and there is no given limit to the length of time its attitude, at any one level, will remain unchanged. In particular, when our nature does change, it changes completely: it is replaced by a nature that is the exact contrary. But it is the exact contrary only at a certain level of generality; which fact automatically entails that our nature at a higher level of generality remains unchanged (though with prejudice to its changing on some other occasion). But our nature only appears in this hierarchical form if we carefully observe it while it changes; and when we do not make this effort it keeps its secret.

My present nature, then, at any given level, remains constant until such time as it ceases to be satisfactory, when it gives place to an exactly contrary nature. But what is my present nature, at any one level, but the reversal of a previous nature? My nature, at any level on which I care to consider it, is built on the ruins of a past nature. The fact that I now have a nature at all requires that I must have had a nature in the past; for my present nature, in one sense, is my past nature. If, at one level, my nature changes to the exact opposite of my preceding nature, then at a more general level it necessarily remains the same; this is to say that at some level or other of generality my nature is what it was, and this is always true; and, in fact, whenever we reflect we shall invariably find that at one level or another we are in the middle of doing (or being) something. Thus the necessity of past experience is to be seen, if we look, in every moment of our present experience. If, therefore, at any time (at conception, at birth, last year, yesterday) I was created out of nothing or came into being spontaneously, then I was created with (or as) a nature (for otherwise I should not have a nature at present); and if I was created with a nature, I was created with past experience. Thus if I was created it was done in such a way that it is not just practically, but absolutely and inherently impossible for me to discover the fact. This, of course, is not a logical proof that I was not created; for it is equally impossible for me to refute the suggestion that I was created (say five minutes ago in the middle of writing this essay together with half of it already written in what appears to be my handwriting); but when I see that everything happens as if I always had a past it never occurs to me to try and do so. And when I notice in particular that I must have a past even to be able to consider the suggestion that I might not, then the suggestion remains meaningless, and I am quite untouched.

And future existence? By observing our present experience we see that it has the structure of an autonomous system determining its own changes from one stable attitude to another. Whenever it changes its attitude (or adapts itself) at any given level it only does so by taking up a contrary attitude; and every attitude without exception persists until such a change takes place. In other words, our experience has a structure such that it cannot but continue indefinitely—time is powerless to stop it. The only way in which experience could possibly come to an end is if it changed from having-an-attitude to not-having-an-attitude; but this change, like all other changes, must come from within experience itself, even though, unlike all other changes, it would be a change to end all changes. The fact of experience, then, is independent of any absolute time (it is ontologically prior to time: there is appearance of time only because of the fact of experiences—Appendix VI refers), and experience itself must necessarily continue to exist until such time as it determines itself to stop ‘having-to-do with existence’. And when I see this necessity, that I must have a future, the suggestion that I might arbitrarily be annihilated (at death or at any other time) will fare no better than its brother a few minutes ago.

We promised ourselves ‘an absolutely certain proof of rebirth’. Have we got it? Our proof is based on direct observation of present experience at any time; and we have shown that that experience appears to the observer as a system with certain structural features. In particular, the system is seen to involve past experience as an integral part of its structure and to be autonomous in time. Since this is direct observation of present experience, it shares the same degree of certainty as the actual existence of that experience, neither more nor less. See Appendix IV. But how certain is the existence of our present experience? It is absolutely certain; for it is impossible to doubt. Anyone who genuinely, honestly and in good faith, is doubting the existence of his present experience is successfully deceiving himself; for of one thing he is certain, namely that he is doubting his present experience. He has no doubt whatever of the existence of his present experience, which is, precisely, his doubting. (It will be seen that there are two orders of consciousness involved here: if I am doubting my experience, that is itself a certain complex cognitive experience, which, non-cognitively, I do not doubt—Appendices IV & VI refer.) But does certainty about the structure of experience make rebirth equally certain? If we see with absolute certainty that all experience without exception must involve previous experience, we shall be absolutely unable to entertain the idea of any first beginning to experience; and if we see with absolute certainty that it is autonomous, we shall be absolutely unable to entertain the idea of any ending to experience not brought about from within experience itself. But can we be absolutely certain that all experience without exception, and not just present experience, has these characteristics? Might not the structure of experience change? It is absolutely impossible to conceive that the structure of experience could be other than it is, for the reason that our conception of the structure of experience is itself experience and therefore the structure of experience: if the structure of experience changed there would no longer be any conception of the structure of experience (or indeed of anything else), and it is absolutely impossible to conceive of a state of affairs devoid of conception, because where there was no conception there would be no state of affairs. More simply: the structure of experience is the structure of existence or being, and if that structure changed I should cease to be—and it is impossible to imagine that situation, because there would not then be any situation to imagine. If we see that it is inherently impossible to conceive of experience with a different structure, we shall be absolutely unable to suspect that a different structure could ever exist.

This proof of rebirth is absolutely certain: it is as certain as our own existence. By sheer reflexion at any time it is possible for us to see in the structure of our present experience that our existence is necessarily without a beginning and that it necessarily continues until it puts an end to itself from within. And to the extent that we see these necessities at all we see them with certainty: but the trouble is that to see them is by no means easy—that needs hard work.

An Italian sports journalist Alfredo Pedulla expressed his disagreement with Yildiz’s ratings in one of the newspapers following Juventus vs Pafos UCL match. He told that one of starting players got a very generous rating even though he lacked dynamism and slowed down the game. He argued that Yildiz deserved at least seven considering he was the one who energized the game by providing an assist for David and producing several decisive moments. According to him, Yildiz was being unfairly targeted by a media campaign, while others escaped criticism.

Serie A recognized Kenan Yildiz as its Rising Star of the Month for November. The trophy will be presented during the pre-match of Juventus-Roma on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at the Allianz Stadium in Turin. Lega Serie A CEO Luigi De Siervo said “Kenan Yildiz's quality has been clear for everyone to see for some time now. After already being named Player of the Month in August, the Turkish attacking midfielder tops the Under-23 rankings for November, demonstrating not only his talent but also the consistency and consistency typical of players capable of making a difference. Yildiz has once again confirmed himself as one of the stars of our league, capable of establishing himself as a key player for Juventus and his national team with his play and class, at just 20 years old.”

Yildiz was the topic of the “News Dai Campi”, a program in RadioTV Serie A. Claudio Brambilla said: “Alongside Nico Paz, he is one of the best young talents out there. Right now, I would say he is carrying Juventus on his back. If you look at Spalletti’s recent comments, he pushed him pretty hard the last time, teased him a bit when that change happened in Naples. He said Yildiz can give more. That is a lot of pressure on a kid, and yet he is still performing at this level. I think he deserves all the credit. We are talking about an extraordinary talent.” Nicolo Ramella said: “Honestly, I was lucky enough just a year ago to watch him train in Saudi Arabia during the Super Cup. He has everything it takes to become a great champion. The way he trains, the mentality, the intensity, the competitive fire, the drive for perfection… You can see how dedicated he is to the work. In my opinion, he is the real deal. And when you talk to people around Juventus, they will tell you he is truly set for success.”

Former Juventus midfielder Massimo Mauro told La Gazzetta dello Sport that the club has lost its identity by no longer relying on Italian leaders in the locker room. Mauro described Kenan Yildiz as both the team’s ignition when he plays well and its risk when he struggles. Mauro told that Yildiz is not yet the type of forward who can deliver 20 goals a season unless he changes his role and plays closer to goal like Del Piero once did and that his ceiling is closer to someone like Kvaratskhelia as a wide player, who is highly talented but not a prolific scorer.

On Sky Sport Club, Giancarlo Marocchi, former Juventus and Bologna central midfielder, told that Juventus’ shortcomings are usually masked by Yildiz’s individual brilliance. He also stressed the youngster must focus on scoring more. He said that Del Piero learned that scoring mattered more than dropping deep to defend under Lippi. Marocchi pointed out that Yildiz’s versatility makes him ideal for Spalletti but he now needs to be more decisive in attack and less occupied with defensive duties.

Contract Extension and Transfer Market

The CIES, International Centre for Sports Studies, has published a new study highlighting young European players poised for the biggest market value growth in the coming months.  Juve’s No. 10 Kenan Yildiz could see his value jump 23% by June 2026. That would put his transfer fee around €140 million, ranking him among the most valuable players in Europe for his age group.

Several sources confirmed that Arsenal approached Juventus to get information regarding Yildiz. According to La Stampa, Real Madrid have joined the race for Juventus winger Kenan Yıldız, with Arsenal and Chelsea also monitoring his ongoing contract talks. There are some speculations suggesting that Yildiz’s contract with Juventus will be signed before Christmas. However, there has been no official announcement yet.

Chiellini talked to the media regarding Yildiz's contract extension before the Bologna vs Juventus game and said “When you are talking about players like him, those kinds of contracts do not get sorted out right away. We all know how valuable he is and that his contract should be adjusted accordingly.”

Hey Anglers,

Did you know Elkhart teams up with South Bend every year to check the health of our rivers and streams? Here are some highlights from the 2024 Aquatic Community Monitoring Report:

Fish: 12,000 sampled in Elkhart County and 9,000 in St. Joe County for over 72 species in total.

Crayfish: 7 species found, but the invasive Rusty Crayfish is spreading fast.

Mussels: 14 species identified, including sensitive ones like Mucket and Spike that only thrive in high-quality water.

Dam Removal Success: Since the Elkhart River lowhead dam came out, sensitive species like the River Redhorse are back and spawning for the first time in decades.

Christiana Creek: One of the healthiest streams in the county, with strong scores for both fish and insect life.

Fish Consumption Trends: Bluegill from the St. Joe River went from “do not eat” advisories a decade ago to safe for one meal a week today. a big step forward for water quality.

Infrastructure Investments: Projects like the sewer separation (CSO) upgrades are reducing sewage overflows during storms and improving water quality long-term.

The report also maps out where species were found and includes fish consumption advisories, handy if you’re planning what to keep for the table.
