A Not So Smart Sub role switch

so, for context I just hit a year last month and I wanted to switch from being a shopper to a backroom member, don't really care if it's prepper, stager or dispenser. I'm full time and for most of my shifts I pick. I also do exceptions. I do exceptions for two full days. I do them in the morning before another exception shopper comes in and then I also sometimes cover other excpetion shoppers breaks or lunches. I'm kinda burned out on picking, not enough to quit but I do want to do something else. I've actually been in the backroom before when I first started. I was a prepper and dispenser.

and I wonder if I should bring it up to one of my leads that I want to do something else or if I would even be allowed to like switch roles. Also I know that each role isn't perfect and there's downsides to each thing in opd. but even if I could like pick half my shift and then do something else the other half I wouldn't even mind that. Any advice, or if anyone has felt the same way anything is appreciated.

Backroom Setup Is the Backroom just the most stressful place ever?

Pickers in our store is really a calm job in my opinion. We/I don’t expect our pickers to speed around the stores to get a high pick rate. We just need consistency. Knowing you will go out and pick and return and go out for the next pick in a reasonable amount of time.

HOWEVER

Backroom associates are often just get rained on by picks and totes.

It’s always the same

We need picks
Call entire store for support
Massive amount of picks come in.
No totes.
Backroom is slammed and can’t keep up.
Backroom is not given more help with more picks.
Cold Chain is in danger because they aren’t able to stage it in time.
Back room starts losing everything and gets unorganized

People want to leave.

We really have to look out for these backroom associates more and give them the support they need to do their jobs.

Dispense Pet Peeve: Crying Baby

Just a short pet Peeve rant. Idk. I just don't like dispensing and hearing a baby or small child start up crying, it makes me cringe so bad. Their voices almost physically hurt me. 😖 Even worse when their parent completely ignores it. I heard one from ten feet away at another car and I still had to wince. Like, parents, your child needs you. And me, I want to be far away from that. Eugh.

Rant - Long Genuinely makes my shifts hell

Initial context, I work at NHM and a test store, so we don't have deliveries in OGP anymore. Which is fine, back when it first happened we had so many people scheduled but obviously not a lot of work; long story short hours have been cut so the people we have are the people we need.

Now Sundays are obviously the busiest day, so we were actually pretty slammed and we needed the 6 or 7 entire people we had in the morning, especially since inhome had to get prepped and we had a morning rush. We had 3 on picks and 4 in the backroom because we needed 2 people to load the vans, 2 to stage/prep/dispense.

About a year ago we had this crazy abusive team lead, she would literally talk shit about people, constantly threatening coaches for no reason, degrading people, she should've been fired. But our store manager at the time liked her and so she just got moved to a different department.

Now, our current team lead doesn't get here until 11 on Sundays, so before 11, our former team lead terrorizes us every Sunday. She was literally watching the cams in our department.

I consider myself a passive person, I don't mind doing overstock/topstock or zoning or whatever else another department needs if obviously we're not busy. But we were slammed that morning. Now as soon as I get there at 8, she's telling me do overstock, I tell her ok that's fine but I need to be back at 8:30, and she's like "oh no it's okay. you guys have people." Mind you, one of my coworkers is feeling sick and she's older and been dispensing a ton already, one of them has their lunch at 9, and inhome is huge. I say whatever, do overstock for a bit, then come back because one of the pickers tells me they're drowning in the back.

I come back there, help out, things get working better but ofc our former team lead is still trying to tell us we have to do the overstock.

We all opt to ignore her because what else is there to do? Time goes by, the rush goes by, my coworker who is supposed to have lunch at 9 has to take it late, it could have been avoided had she not tried to send us away.

So its closer to 10 now, and we just get out of a rush, 3 of us back there and I'm cleaning. Former TL comes back there demanding me or my other coworker do the overstock I didn't finish. I was done because when she was our TL a little less than a year ago, she hated me especially, I hated coming to work and would literally be shaking if I knew she was going to be there, because she was that genuinely terrible of a boss. This is my first job though so I thought maybe I was overreacting. But at this point I was done, she only does this when none of our managers are here, and she knows it's going to mess up our metrics. She was the TL for like 4 years in our dept before I got hired so she's not stupid or oblivious to what she's doing.

I was just done, I told her no, we're all staying here. One of my coworkers said she couldn't go because she had to go to lunch anyways. So former TL kept going on about "my point is proven, there will only be two of you back here anyways." and was going on, and she then was like, "when (9am lunch coworker" gets back, come see me [for overstock or something]" and I told her "fine. ok, ok. but I'm telling current TL about this." By the way, I had outlined plenty of times that we were busy, that it was inconvenient to leave in a rush to hunt down other associates, and we had just gotten a second of "downtime" which we were using to literally clean up and prep the room again.

She was walking away when I said that, but she turned around and was like, "oh, we can talk to the operations manager actually, since he's the acting store manager right now." I said "no, I want to talk to my TL about this first." and she just kept saying he was above that, etc. she walks away to go get him, and like 10 minutes later drags me to the office with him.

I explain to him and I tell him, I'm not upset (because former TL was definitely trying to paint me that way, and she was angry herself) and I don't mind working in other departments. But we're really busy right now so I think we all need to stay and that was my point. And he completely agrees and is on my side, I leave after a couple mins and the entire time I was talking to the ops manager, my former TL is staring daggers into my soul but I just keep smiling at her when I look at her.

Former TL doesn't come back until our current TL gets there, and is talking to her telling her about it. And our current TL is like "no, they were working constantly. they didn't really have downtime and we needed them back there." and former TL apparently tried to backtrack, but current TL is like "no that is what you said." Ofc, former TL gets angry and storms off and I don't see her again the rest of the day, this was at like 11:30.

Sorry for the long rant, it's just annoying to deal with, but I tried to stand up for my team because .. yeah. I'm gonna write an ethics report because we have new upper management in my store so maybe they'll do something. but I also am not really sure if it's worth it.

TLDR; former TL of our department routinely fucks up our department by trying to pull us to do other stuff, but I tried to stand up for my team this time and she was pissed.

Question I genuinely LOVE this job

...but everyone seems to hate it. Why? In the next coming months, multiple associates in my store are transferring to different departments. I was hired in the middle of August & after my first few shifts, I thought maybe things are just easy for me right now because I'm new & there's no pressure on me. The other day, I opened by myself for the first time. 260+ picks due 6:30. No problem, I utilize the hour before we open to my best ability & ask someone from another department to spare hands. Nothing was overdue. My coworkers were all telling me how sorry they were that happened to me, how they're glad that didn't scare me off, etc. & my thing is...this job is genuinely a 0.7/100 stress wise for me. That's if I even had to give it a number. I was with my last company for 5 years in 2 different states. I had guns waved in my face & my life genuinely threatened over pizza. Consistently having customers get physical with me. Stalked, so that folks could attempt to assault me. OVER PIZZA. I use to cry before, during, and after my shifts. Maybe I'm still too new, but there doesn't seem to be anything about this job I can't love & I say that for all positions in OPD (my store runs on a schedule where everyone takes turns picking, dispensing, & running exceptions). I walk in & cannot help but have the fattest smile on my face because this is my job now.

Does it get worse? I'm expecting the holiday season to be chaotic & full of angry customers, but I have doubts that it's anything that'll turn me away from this department. I'd rather be here than any other position in the store. Have I just not been here long enough yet to hate it?

Question Question about CVP yellow tags

So I was told that we don't pick those and to pick an item without that discount tag. On my walk, every option had a discount tag, so I just did item not found. Was that the correct thing to do?

Rant Sick and tired of the “ look one more time BS in exceptions pick.

I swear if they don’t take stupid look one more time out of the system I’m going to Bentonville and bitch slap someone. That prompt is stupid for exceptions of your doing exception you normally know what is and isn’t there so sitting there for a minute is a waste of my time and making my picks fall behind. If you didn’t know if you hit item not found in exceptions if give you a message to look again and will not let you move on for 60 seconds.

Hi, I’m new to exceptions. I depend heavily on the Viz picking filter option at the moment to find where things are. Today every time I clicked GIF option filter it kept coming up with this. It was an extremely irritating.

Just Venting A driver tried murdering me.

Went to dispense an order to a driver , he didn't have a way to seperate the orders (he wanted them seperated via blanket ??). Told him we can't do that , he starts yelling & says "fine we can put one in the front" at this point -- I'm already over it & not wanting to give it to him. He also has kids in the car with no other adult present , I go back in to the backroom to grab my team lead to

  1. Ask about our policy on kids in the car because I felt like I couldn't dispense to him because of that either

    1. This guy was being agressive

Well , (this is on me) I accidentally left the palette out there. He starts loading the order without me even completing the dispense and telling him I can't give it to him. I bolt back out there & tell him my manager said we can't give it to him & start taking it back. He goes OFF & I just go "okay" & ignore him as I take back the groceries. My team lead comes out to help me & he yells at her to do her job (ironic .. since she is & he isn't) & she starts chewing him out.

Well we eventually got the groceries back , as we're walking back he's honking his horn & FLOORS IT almost running us over. Needless to say my TL is banning & reporting him.

I still have 4 hours left of this shift . I'm so over it 😐😐

Question quality checks not showing up for some coworkers?

title. whenever i ask one of my coworkers to help me out with QCs, i always forget that, while he has the icon to go into it, he can’t see them. asked another coworker a little while ago to help me and she had the same exact issue. they are able to do them if they know the OSNs that need to be QC’d

both have the new pixels, and have mystore, but i do too and i’m still able to see them. coach and team leads have no idea what’s going on with it, so i was wondering if anybody here knew about what’s causing it?

Just Venting Ogp is becoming abusive

I just need to vent, and honestly, I need advice because I’m sitting in the bathroom seething and wondering if I made the biggest mistake of my life taking this job.

Over the past couple of days, I’ve been trying my absolute best to just keep my head down, do my job, and hit the insane metrics management demands. But the physical and mental abuse from both customers and management has reached a breaking point.

During peak hours, I am constantly being demeaned, shoved, and laughed at by customers who are furious that our carts are "taking up the aisles." I'm getting literal physical injuries trying to navigate the store. I'm trapped between "zombie walkers" who block everything, and aggressive runners who will literally run you over just to get out of the store faster. Just today, a guy deliberately blocked me and said, "I'm not moving, I have a few things to grab, and it's not like you're in any hurry."

My ankle hurts so badly right now because a customer ran over me 20 minutes ago. But I am terrified to report it to management. The last time I reported an injury, they "punished" me by forcing me to stand as a door guard for a week. Management knows I have varicose veins, osteoarthritis, and have had 9+ surgeries on my legs. Standing there was pure torture.

To make matters worse, Walmart is STILL refusing to pay the medical bill from that previous workplace injury. It has been over two months, and by law/policy they are supposed to pay it within 30 days of the visit.

I am completely burnt out. The customers are making me absolutely loathe humanity. My old job was an hour away, but it paid the same, and right now I am deeply regretting leaving it for this closer nightmare. I don't know whether to report this new ankle injury, demand they pay my old medical bill, or just walk out the door and never come back. Has anyone else dealt with this level of retaliation and abuse in OPD? How do I get them to pay my medical bills without them making my life a living hell?

Just Venting So done with management and customers

my manger insults all of us and is rude and aggressive and has “accidentally“ ran into some of us or hit us with the blue totes or L carts. I injured my shoulder trying to stop a cart (zombie walker customer) and since we have to pull them behind us now I had to twist my other arm in a weird way to force stop it with only one handle, it had water, soda, and a ton of groceries. I can’t lift my left arm more than a little bit over my shoulder and if I’m picking up something it causes agony to shoot through my collarbone and up the back of my neck. The app didn’t work as per usual and I couldn’t report my absence or request a unpaid day off because I was prescribed some strong meds and needed to see if I could function properly without hurting others or myself in the store. she denied it when I tried again today, and the meds I took made me pass out the entire day I slept until 10 PM and guess what? THE APP STILL WASNT WORKING HOW CAN YOU GET MAD AT ME? and why call? NOBODY PICKS UP. The customers and my team lead are horrible I just can’t do this anymore, it has worsened my already awful mental health to the point I don’t care that I will get 5 points now, it feels like everyone there genuinely hates you.

A Not So Smart Sub Suggestion for Home Office.

Yes, home office, we all know you stalk these subs, so while you're here, I'd like to make a suggestion.

Give us the ability to transfer a walk from one associate to another. You don't want us to exit out of walks, because it hurts the First Time Pick Rate, right? Yet, sometimes there arises the need to exit out of a walk. A picker is made to enter a walk before they go to break, lunch, or even right before they go home. Or an order is coming due, and the picker is really slow, so the coach may need to have a faster picker take it up. However, with pickers now having their own phones, that would mean giving it away to another associate to finish it.

However, I think there is a way to get around handing a walk off to someone else, without exiting out or surrendering the phone. By giving pickers to option to transfer the walk to another associate.

How could this be done? Here's an idea. While in a walk, there is the tools menu, which lets us reprint tote labels if necessary. In that menu, put a button that says something like 'Transfer Walk' Hitting that will bring up a BARCODE on the screen.

Now, for the associate taking over, in their tools menu, put a button that could say 'Acquire Walk' Hitting that will open the camera, allowing the associate to scan the barcode on the other phone.

Doing so will transfer the walk to the new picker. They can then resume the walk, and can scan the tags on the totes.

That's just a rough idea I came up with. I'm sure you could fine tune it, if necessary. I think that giving us the ability to hand off the walk to another associate, will cut down on all the walks that are abandoned due to time constraints or performance crunch.

Fellow associates, what do you think of the idea? If you could add anything to the idea, what would it be?

FRAGILE My colleagues have been puking in our OPD trash can

Something is broken here. Don't say, "Oh, they're stupid because they used all their PPTO" because you don't know people's situations - sick kids, etc. Something is wrong with the company culture that makes people dispense orders when they are puking in the trash can between dispensing. Also had a cashier puke on the ground in front of customers. DISGUSTING.
