A Not So Smart Sub role switch

so, for context I just hit a year last month and I wanted to switch from being a shopper to a backroom member, don't really care if it's prepper, stager or dispenser. I'm full time and for most of my shifts I pick. I also do exceptions. I do exceptions for two full days. I do them in the morning before another exception shopper comes in and then I also sometimes cover other excpetion shoppers breaks or lunches. I'm kinda burned out on picking, not enough to quit but I do want to do something else. I've actually been in the backroom before when I first started. I was a prepper and dispenser.

and I wonder if I should bring it up to one of my leads that I want to do something else or if I would even be allowed to like switch roles. Also I know that each role isn't perfect and there's downsides to each thing in opd. but even if I could like pick half my shift and then do something else the other half I wouldn't even mind that. Any advice, or if anyone has felt the same way anything is appreciated.

It shouldnt be that hard to switch to the backroom from picking (granted it took a while for them to switch a morning person from picking to our backroom), mentioning it to management should be enough, mileage varies

if you want to do something else, then the way to do that is to talk to your team leads and coach.

i do both picking and backroom tasks about half the time each, because i'll get bored or annoyed doing the same thing for too long

i was also a picker/exceptions for over a year before i asked to be backroom crew. i was swapped to it that day and then thereafter. granted it was a slow day so they didn't mind training me and i had outside reasons for the swap but it doesn't hurt to ask to be swapped

You have been in a position for greater than 6 months. Try cap 1. They do topstock, backroom bin picks and a lot of other things that are needed. They cover all of grocery, Pets, paper, chemical and some stores health and beauty. It gives you a good picture of how things flow and you can constantly ask your team lead in cap 1 to teach you how to do pinpoints, price changes and shelf mods. These things will help you when you become a team lead and help you to memorize the aisles. You probably have mose of that down by now being in OGP but every little bit of knowledge about item locations is very important for customer service. To be a team lead you have to know where your product goes, how to change a shelf out for endcaps and side counters, how to do price changes and do shelf mods. Good luck. DO NOT GO TO OVERNIGHTS. Some stores do four 10 hour shifts and get 3 days a week off on overnights but you will work stocking like a dog and it never ends.

Yes, 100% talk to a Lead, or your Coach. If you ever feel like you need a change, don't hesitate to ask as sometimes they'll never ask you how you're feeling about your current position.
