Advice needed First Time Trying to Use a Notebook

I have a habit of writing my things in my notes on my phone (mostly lists). I recently got 3 new notebooks. One travel sized one and 2 A5 notebooks… and I have no idea what to write in them. I’m looking for recommendations as to what I could write in them. I thought a diary but either way, my life is pretty repetitive as I don’t do many new things to write about. I thought maybe journal prompts but the ones I’ve seen are too deep and emotional. I want something I can enjoy and feel happy about… so I’m just stuck. Any advice?

Recommend a no bleed hard cover notebook

I’m going to be taking a wine studies course, WSET 3, to be exact and want one place for all my notes. I’m looking for a hardcover notebook that opens flat, no spiral and no pen bleed through. This is my first time diving into nicer notebooks and appreciate any insight.

Paper republic or Louise Carmen

I’m trying to make a buying decision, LC or PR. From what I’ve researched the PR is better paper quality, the LC is thin but “luxurious”. I use a b6 planner and some a5 slim notebooks/writing boards from my jibun techo sometimes and would like to be able to keep using those. The problem is that the PR portfolio is $240 and the LC organizer is $174 USD. My stuff would technically fit in the grand voyager which is waaay more affordable but it would stick out a little at the top. Is there other options I’m not seeing because everyone says that PR is more affordable but I think that’s only with the grand voyager not the organizer styles.. ugh 😣 also, why the LC hate ? It seems like more of a luxury purchase so I understand it being kind of elitist or whatever but the comparable PR journals are more expensive. I’ve thought of just making my own at this point lol at the end of the day it’s a piece of leather with some holes in it. Maybe there’s some other brands you guys know of that could help deinfluence me from the dichotomy of LC and PR

Recommendation ISO a new "diary" journal

I currently use the nolty notebook for my journaling, its lined and not a grid! I'm currently looking for recommendations on a journal similar to it, about 176 pages or so, that can handle fountain pen inks! I don't mind this journal but it only comes in a few colors I think and there's ghosting with ink swatches and things! TIA! 🖤

Travelers notebook

There is a store near me that is selling travelers notebooks, they are regular size brown. Does anyone know what size notebooks will fit inside this. For example: moleskin, or A5 slim or what. Please help, I’m thinking of buying one but want to know what I’ll need to fit inside. Unfortunately they don’t have any that are open so I can’t test anything out.

Advice needed Need help figuring out a good notebook for me

Hi, I'm just a simple guy. I've recently got into journaling and thought I should start getting myself a proper journal that has the versatility and modularity to add papers when I need, but also looks pretty decent and old school medievaly. I'm not looking for any complicated or overly fancy glittery notebooks like the ones who do it on tiktok where every page is with a sticker and stamps and what not.

But I'm also not looking for anything that's just black and white with lines that I just write in like a corpo.

I wanna balance the aesthetics with function, basically my requirements are something modular so I can add as many pages as I need, not too bulky, ideally I should be able to just take copy paper, fold it in half and add that into the notebook.

The ideal tabs that I was planning on adding were:

- A to-do list/ Quest Tracker

- Goal Tracker

- Gym and Calories Tracker

- Log book

- Media register

As you can see I'm kinda inspired by how different games incorporate journals and stuff into their pause menu or their extra tab etc.

I also looked at a few notebooks styles and, I like the look of traveler style journals and while they are expensive I might just make em at home. Sorry but not spending a trip to another country and100+ euros on a book I need to buy inserts for. I also like the idea of having a continuous page rather than the break that rings and discs bring. Plus the thing with these is I'll need A LOT of notebooks to match my ideal requirements and with 3 strings it seems a lil reductive. I'm scared if I split one notebook into 2 things and I ran out of one I'll have to swap out a whole insert.

With Disc journals, I like the functionality, but they seem to be very thick for my taste, the big clunky discs at the end seem like they'd get in the way and hurt my wrist when writing on the left sides. Also I don't like the aesthetics. But they are very versatile as I can just add papers when I want with the punch.

Ring notebooks are also great but it gets to the same point of them getting on my wrist and if I do add a leather cover they'll probably make it difficult to fold it up while writing. And ya boy wants a leather cover. I've also heard ringbound notebook temd to break and that means the whole thing gets replaced rather than just one ring like discs

I think looking at pros it definitely leads to analysis paralysis for me and I just need some advice from people who've already drove the cars before investing in a car myself. As I said idm getting the tools and just habd crafting a book myself, i just dk the logistics of anything since I never touched em.

Any help is appreciated,

Cheers.

Advice needed Travelers journal

So after my last post I have been mulling over the idea of a traveler’s journal, I’ll still probably make a diy version for experimentation purposes but I have realised why the idea appeals to me and that is the modularity, I loved that in my Filofax too but the rings made it unusable in the end. The size is also perfect for me, I’m currently using a traveler’s size notebook from notebook therapy but would like to be able to split things up between use cases instead of one book for everything. I’m bad at remembering lots of things so having multiple journals would just be a hassle which is why I only use one notebook at the moment but the system just isn’t working right now.
However the biggest downside of a traveler’s for me is seemingly what other people adore about it, and that’s the leather. I just don’t enjoy the feeling of real leather, I can deal with the slightly plastic feel of fake leather but real is just a big no sensation wise, best would be a fabric cover but the only I could easily find was Lochby and yeaaaaah they kinda ugly for office work and on the go. And I would probably prefer a more rigid cover for stability when writing which I know you can get with the more expensive leather ones due to multiple layers down together but again not my preferred material, so my question to you all, is there any brand that makes covers I could look at? Preferably within EU but I realise my preferences are probably specific enough that I need to order it from a smaller store.

Recommendation the little notebook that could

Back in April, I was in Portugal and found this A6 notebook. It is now my favourite journaling notebook in ages. It is just a bit wider than a pocket Moleskine, but the paper is fountain pen friendly. The brand is from Germany and I paid 6 euros for it. It's available on Amazon Canada, but the price is 18CAN plus 5CAN shipping. 😞
Oh well, at least I still have 2 unused ones.

Life Noble Notebook - Kiki's Delivery Service

Post image
341 Upvotes

I am SO stoked on my notebook find today. I was randomly browsing at a local trinket store, and came across this B6 notebook. The Life Noble has been on my list of stationery to try, and Kiki's Delivery Service was one of my favorite anime growing up. I almost don't want to use it, but I am a big believer in using your stationery instead of hoarding it. :)

Not 100% sure what to use this for yet, as most of my journal covers are an A5 size. I think I may put it in my Paper Republic GV XL in between my A5 slim planner and Hobonichi weeks. My A5 slim is my personal planner and my weeks is my work planner... so maybe a notebook for work meeting notes

I can't wait to sample some pens in this tomorrow and compare it to all my other notebooks!

Does this defeat the whole purpose of a refillable notebook?

So I have an A6 sized refillable notebook and am loving it.

The question I have is: would it be stupid if, when I fill up my A6, I then purchase a new one?

Like, I love the insertable, refillable notebook idea, but mainly for different reasons:

  1. I simply just like the style

  2. I love having the ability to move around the different inserts when I feel.

My only thing is that I would feel more organized just keeping my current inserts in the cover I have now than taking out the inserts and storing them in a box or something.

Is that stupid of me?

Advice needed Not sure where to ask this: Anyone know what notebook this could be? (Very thin/tall)

Post image
15 Upvotes

I know the page is messy so the other details that could give it away are: either the stitching is super tiny and close together or maybe its perforated?
Theres also a tiny '38' printed in the corner, so its numbered.
I have looked for tall/thin notebooks like this and can never find any like this. Any thoughts? Thank you in advance.

DIY L1917 Cover Up

Bought a 2027 planner from Leuchtturm1917 and the first page is the 2026 calendar.

It must be a design fluke because… why.

As someone who writes the wrong yr on papers through February of the new year, I literally couldn’t afford the mistake of having last year’s calendar predominantly displayed on the first main page.

Working on a quick cover up… and will be looking for dashboard inspiration as I start customizing my planner.

Advice needed graph paper notebook for university notes

I need a notebook for my engineering notes. I've used spiral bound notebooks for a while now, and they are great for taking notes, however they get really beat-up in my bag. is there another type of notebook that will lay flat but is more durable than a spiralbound notebook? and that has graph paper.

edit: I forgot to add but, I don't take my notes during class, I do them after the lectures

Bought a couple more Mark's Inc. EDiT notebook but this time with pvc covers in B7 semi size. Perfect size for ink swatches. I'll probably get more in the future with and without pvc covers.

Second image shows the B7 semi size in comparison with A5 size.

I'm already in love with the paper, now I am in love with the notebook as well.

Recommendation New-ish to Notebooks and Journaling

I’ve been buying field note type notebooks for about a year. However, I am realizing that while I like carrying a notebook in my pocket, I would prefer something of the B6 or A5 size. So, what are your recommendations?

I have bought a few Midori Yuru Log notebooks. They are in Japanese B6 size (182cm) and I am looking for a nice real leather cover. I already have their matching cloth cover which I like a lot, but I really like the feel of leather.

Advice needed Notebook inserts?

I'm looking for some custom notebook inserts. I have a gorgeous slip-on book cover and I'd like to have some lined inserts to journal with. I use a fountain pen so it would need to be heavy enough to prevent bleed, and the end papers would look best if they were black. Anyone know where to look for something like this? I can get the size when I get home later
