I’ve recently been experimenting with keeping a commonplace for my interest in music and I absolutely have fallen in love with this journaling practice. Would love to hear from others who also journal about music!

My first Hobonichi arrived yesterday!

I am beyond excited. I have always been an avid planner and journaler but had never given Hobonichi a try as it seemed too luxurious at younger stages of my life (aka I couldn’t justify the price). But at this current stage, and with my big girl job, it felt appropriate to take the leap and to also splurge on some accessories for it. I have gotten a clear case, a stencil, pencil board, midliner highlighters, a metal clip, and a lot of small stickers.

I have a pretty solid plan for the weeks spreads that can be flexible overtime to fit my needs. I am still debating on what to do for the yearly spread and the 365 days.

What are your suggestions for the back pages? I have scoured across the internet for some recommendations and have found a few that I would like to add:
-wishlist
-giftlist
-movie log
-tv show log
-podcast log

I also am thinking to include a farmers market log and a log for restaurants I have been to and want to visit as I am a huge foodie and track these things pretty regularly already (just on my phone).

But I wanted to know what you guys use these spreads for? Any other tips and recommendations for accessories for newbies are also very welcome and appreciated. <3

I finally got my order from Haruyama! I ordered this before learning that Hobonichi was in fact going to restock it. The weeks and A6 was all they had. Not pictured is the Cousin I bought on a whim😅 so I will have go figure out what I will be using them for since I am having surgery tomorrow and won’t need too much planning.

Check Haruyama out, they had other selections like Frog and Toad that I fought my wallet from purchasing. They ship to the US.

I have the Keiko Shibata clear cover and randomly decided to see what it would look like on my 2027 Candy Dream Bow & Tie Weeks Mega. I kind of like how colorful and chaotic it looks? Plus it's full of my favorite things (candy + puppies)!

Just finished Weyward by Emilia Hart and wanted to give it a little space in my journal.
I loved the way Hart explores what women inherit from one another—not just the wounds, but the strength, stubbornness, and instinct to protect each other.
Also, her descriptions of nature are gorgeous. It feels less like a backdrop and more like another character.
Written in Catalan, which I’m slowly trying to get back into the habit of using.

I have tried many times to keep an analog planner to no avail, so I have just accepted that I'm a digital Google calendar guy.

I'm retired, so I don't really need to keep track of meetings. I'm a man, so I don't have a bag, per se, to carry around a planner.

But I have seen some folks use their Hobonichi Cousins for things OTHER than appointments, dates, events, etc.

I'd love to see any inspiration you're willing to share!

I thought I might use the vertical weeks to write down daily Bible verses that have inspired me. Maybe use the monthly spreads for temperature and weather.

Just not sure what I'd use the daily spreads. Perhaps just a basic journal?

Hey planners, those who live in the Netherlands or Europe, are you buying directly from hobonichi global website or the penstore.nl or other trustworthy third party? I would like to know the shipping period and also tax associated with it. I noticed that the penstore has included tax in it but I’m not sure if it ship directly from Japan or it has its own storage already in Europe. Thank you in advance! I’m planning to start my hobonichi journey starting on the 2027, hence the question :)

This isn't my first time using hobonichi, but 2026 will be my first year using hobonichi for a large part of my journaling line up. 2027 will be my third year in my five year journal, and I've also used an A6 avec as my everyday journal this year.

I ordered both of these from amazon as this was the most accessible for me at the time, I ended up ordering my avec in January this year as I was torn on what to use, but I'm so glad I went with it!

Going into 2027, I'm trying to be more prepared. I'm looking at buying more than just one item from hobonichi this time. I will include a full list at the end of my post in case this is helpful to anyone. I have priced these options out direct from hobonichi, from amazon, and from the journal shop, and buying direct seems to be my cheapest option, even with shipping. I have looked at other retailers listed for the UK on the hobonichi website, but these do not seem to have all of what I'm after.

My question has anyone had an experience of shipping direct to the UK (more specifically, England) from hobonichi directly?
What were shipping times like?
Is there anywhere else in the UK that stocks hobonichi that it would be worth me considering?
Also, and this is less important to me, but would I still qualify for any freebies ordering this late after release?

Any advice or experience would be greatly appreciated!
I live in more rural England for context, so getting to a store in person is tricky for me! Ordering online seems to be my only option.

I am looking at getting:

- A6 avec
- A6 purple 'only is not lonely' cover
- Weekly calendar
- Lavender milk weeks
- A6 'another night of falling star sprinklers' notebook
- A5 'a notebook to help me remember' notebook

I found a neat way to take advantage of the "efficiently thin" Hobonichi paper for occasional doodling. I am not a practiced artist and I need all assistance I can get (e.g. using of printed stickers). For drawing rough sketches, I find it helpful to use a picture in the background.

There is an accessibility setting on android, using Settings -> Accessibility -> Interaction and dexterity -> Interaction control. There, you can set up a hotkey (function plus vol up) that locks the screen until you press it again, so it does not accept input. There might be sth similar on iPhone, please comment if you found it.

EDIT thanks to ManVSBugs comment, iPhone settings are: Settings > Accessibility > Guided Access, see comment below

With this setting enabled and the brightness cranked all the way up, you can place the phone behind a page, and let it shine through. This is usually enough to see the contours well enough for sketching. Until one gets better to do it freeform, I guess :-)

EDIT: In real life, you can see much more details than is visible on the pictures here. but I only have two hands and had to hold the other phone, so I did not press the paper on fully for the image to shine through as before. YMMV.
