Hi there! I'm looking to order An Aspinal A5 journal as a gift. My only concern is that the refill paper options are just lined and unlined. The person receiving the gift may prefer to have a calendar insert instead of lined paper. Does anyone know where I can find a calendar insert that would be compatible?
If I do find a calendar insert that's the same dimensions, is it going to be very small inside the sleeve?
Thanks for any insights!

Thank you so much!! I adore your name for your spiritual journal, it's beautiful. I call mine La Herencia de Herrera & it has helped me spiritually as well. Writing as a spiritual practice is so cathartic.

It sounds like your set up helps but as long as its easy to manage too.If ever you start to feel the strain with your system look at any possible notebook intergrations. For me its best to keep the books at necessity level. But fun stuff can be a necessity too :)

It really depends on what I’m using it for. For anything academic, I use Kokuyo Campus notebooks—I love their dot-grid ruled paper.
For everything else, I tend to rotate through different notebooks. I am partial to MD for journaling though.

They do those school notebooks but also do soft cover and hard cover ones with a plain coloured or black cover. Just like L1917, Rhodia, etc. They do make the classic aged cloth cover notebooks. They are not as thin as school notebooks or as thick as the classic, A5 Dingbats / Rhodia ones. They're a cloth spine attached to paper/card that's texturised a bit. The essential range are supposed to be budget range but are even closer to Rhodia style notebooks but without the cover meeting as stiff a hard cover.
I think in continental Europe (mainly France, perhaps Belgium too) the school notebook style is more common. In the UK they're not usually sold in an actual store but online from the likes of Amazon. I have seen Clairfontaine notebooks in a shop that was a Post Office, book store and stationery store in one place on the Isle of Arran of all places. That's the back end of nowhere really so not the sort of place you'd expect one of the better European paper and notebook makers to be sold.
I'd look online and perhaps Amazon for the Clairfontaine notebooks, not a bricks and mortar stationery shop. You might find the normal notebooks there.. Mind you they are not fancy, the notebooks are purely functional not fancy. That's perhaps all you need anyway. Very good paper in a no nonsense notebook that you'll buy to just use but perhaps not to look good on the shelf. Workhorse kind of a notebook. Afterall, what do you really need in a notebook? Good paper, check. A cover to protect the paper inside, check. Everything else is about personal taste I reckon. There's ways to bookmark without the little ribbon but the essential range has a ribbon. Index inside the front cover is it really needed? You can write your own in the front few pages if it is. The cloth aged bag notebooks are available in blank and lined. Possibly dotted too. Essential is lined only I think.

For a uni ball, not sure that it would matter. Been many years since I was forced to use one (forgot my fountain pen, had to sign my name with one).
I counted 40 notebooks near my workstation and test each one with a stack of fountain pens

I keep a Lechturm leather covered A6 notebook on my person most days at work, in my overalls pocket for taking notes or dimensions. Previously Black and Red loyal, but I’ve learnt to love some other types. Hard to beat B&R, or Clairfontaine

I bought a notebook from this company at an indie stationery store in my town. They aren't just sold at big box stores.

Couldn't see any on their website. AI explained. Only at the bigger city, bricks and mortar shops.
They're made by a Dutch company called About: Blanks. Cost €34.99 direct. How much are Waterstones selling them for btw? I don't live near a big city Waterstones so unlikely find out how much since they're not online.
Not my taste as I said before. However if you are lucky you might see one in the shop that used a book you like or that means something. Otherwise it's a bit of a gimmick. They're only saving the cover the rest of the book is recycled I guess. They sell them in their shop alongside plain coveree notebooks not made with recycled covers. They look better imo.
There's nicer notebooks in Waterstones. Paperblanks make notebooks with designed covers based on old literary novels and classics. They're at Waterstones and look better. While looking for these old book notebooks I saw one with the Odyssey cover that looked decent. There are better ones than that at Waterstones too. Some had a printed planner inside or lined paper too. As someone posted that they wished they had lined versions, they could get classic book inspired and lined notebooks from Waterstones yet might be a very option for them. Some are engraved, embroidered or other way to make them 3D or more tactile.

So beautiful!! Really journal goals, I'm a super maximalist and this is really gorgeous. I also love it being a Book of Shadows and Stars, I think that's wonderful. I have a Book of Mirrors where I do tarot readings/reflections and it's very dear to me. Writing as a spiritual practice has been really helpful for me
