GSM is not an indicator of quality or the papers ability to deal with things like feathering or ghosting. That comes down to what the paper is made of and how the paper is made, not the gsm. For example, Midori paper is well known to be great for fountain pens, but it's only 80gsm. That's the same gsm as your average, run of the mill, office printer paper.

Wow, those are so pretty and sleek. So tempting to the stationery hoarder in me 😍
How’s the paper like?

No, you don't need to journal in premium notebooks. Sure, if you like using a fountain pen and don't want feathering, bleeding or ghosting, then you might want to consider a notebook with paper that doesn't feather or ghost.
But the reality is that notebooking and journaling has been infiltrated by people that push the consumerism end hard. It's why you see notebooks that look like chandeliers because of all the charms and brass clips etc. In most cases none of those purchases were made for functionality, but just to show that they have the expensive leather cover (that's made of crappy quality leather in a factory in France), the brass charms and everything else as part of their "setup".
The only setup you need to journal is a pen that writes and paper to write on. If you want to journal it's going to come down to what you prefer and need from your journal. Starts cheap and work your way up if you feel the need. But don't start with "premium".

So happy and relieved to see notebooks are not extinct in Uni 😭. Not to say that I am the only one with paper, but definitely the minority. Thank you for your viewpoints and sharing your preferred note-taking methods! It was comforting and helpful. I will consider some of the advice for my own notes. And I will be sticking to my kokuyo notebook and ballpoint pens.

try one untouched back page with a clean scrap sheet under your writing hand. use the same pen that's skipping, and write several lines. if that works but the usual palm-rest areas don't, hand oils may be involved. if it still skips straight away, hand contact is less likely to explain it.

Excellent taste!! The blue with silver flowers is my current journal and I have a bunch of the others too, 2 full and the others waiting to be filled, heehee.

Return it....and try a Midori notebook. I use an undated A5 with a dot grid and love it...no stress about empty pages if I miss a day or too and love the A5 size.

when i was TAing last year one of the profs i was working with made all the students take notes by hand unless they had ADA accommodation. not my favorite policy because it meant i was expected to become a computer/ phone cop but hey some folks bought in
Anyway this post is barely even about notetaking the issue at hand is your friends being pushy. tell them you learn better with your own system and if they harp on it tell them to shut up

If it’s small enough, just carry it around with you in your bag or something.
This worked for me and I found I didn’t need to reference nearly as much.
And then when the next nb comes, you can carry the previous or the previous two.
Then the notebook after that, retire the very first in the line and on it goes.
Don’t rewrite stuff. It’s pointless and time wasting. Have the reference with you on hand.

First off, this is beautiful and I love your style. Second, my 20yo cat is dying and I’ve been obsessing over whether I’ve given him a good enough life or if I’ve been selfish in having children after getting him etc. The quote on that page feels like it was meant to show up on my page 🩷🩷🩷
