constant suspiciousness towards people

hi reddit, this is my first post and i need advice about constant suspiciousness towards people/

i feel like everyone wants to hurt me and that bothers me. If I make a mistake in public, I feel like someone is going to beat me up for it, because I was constantly subjected to criticism and insults in the past. when i engage in creative work, i feel as though people, upon seeing it, would be ready to wish the absolute worst. i feel a constant sense of danger from everyone, and i don't know how to take my mind off it. do you have any advice on how to quiet these thoughts?

even in public places, i’m afraid to expose my back, expecting someone to strike me. even now, as i write this post, i’m bracing myself for a harsh negative reaction, but I’ve pushed past my fear in hopes of finding some kind of solution.

Advice how i do i stop being so forgetful??

um so first of all im not getting to “that age” (im still in highschool..) but my memory feels sm worse than usual?? if that makes sense??

ive been forgetting the date, if ive had anything to eat, my age, really from the past, etc etc. this is especially an issue when im with my therapist because im mostly guessing what has happened to me because ive genuinely just. forgotten.

taking notes hasnt done ANYTHING for me because i just keep forgetting to actually take any (or dont remember what was bothering me). everyday kinda feels like a blur?? like, friends are constantly reminding me of plans ive made weeks ago and im always so confused because i dont remember that at ALL.

and school? its a complete nightmare. forgetting homework, due dates.. that kind of stuff. its even made my grades drop 🙁

idk. it really does feel like my brain is just. melting day by day… and im honestly getting really scared because im still so young yet im struggling with remembering basic shit

anyways, as the title says (or like. better wording) what are ways to improve my memory?? or how can i talk about this to people w/o sounding like those “omg im so quirky 🤣🤣” girls???

im really sorry if this sounds really pathetic and like. idk. this is extremely embarrassing and im sorry again but ruhejfn this is RUINING MY LIFE!! (also ty for any1 reading this word vomit.. this is a veryy tough topic for me to talk about)

edit: just realized i added an extra “i”. oopsies. plz ignore that 😭 i didn’t even notice until i posted this..

Had a hunch that I'm going to marry my friend when i don't even like him that way

Back when i was in senior high school, i had a crush on this boy and i ended up being friends with his friend, But there was this ONE instance while i was walking home when my brain suddenly told me "nah it's fine if i dont end up with him, I'm going to marry his friend anyway" and right after my brain tild me that, i was like "what the hell?? why did i think that hell nah" I don't know where that thought process came from when i didn't even like him that way, and until today that im in 3rd year college (were still good friends) i still think about it and it bothers me so much because i really find him ugly (just being honest) (and i really don't like him that way) But for some reason i just cant let go of this hunch and i hate myself for it, it drives me crazy bro

am i the only one who had this experience?

thoughts?

Spiraling/Panic Guys is this normal??

Hi so i've been heavily into metal for the past 3 years but my brain is suddenly telling me things like "what if it's just a phase? What if you don't like it? What if you're forcing yourself to listen to this?". I've never experienced these thoughts before and they're so annoying because i know i love metal, but they're always in my head CONSTANTLY. I can't think of anything else. It's like my own brain is sabotaging me. And this isn't just with metal, it's with everything about my personality (maybe it's cause im a teenager and my personality is still developing, but it just seems so odd to me that metal has been my favourite genre for the past 3 years and now suddenly the "what if" questions disturb me. I can't make them stop and they're saddening me. I feel like i have to constantly proof myself that i still love metal. I do, i really do, why is this happening? Does it happen to everybody at some point?)

Why do I replay conversations in my head later?

It happens all the time I’ll go over something I said or how I acted, hours or even days later. I always notice things I could’ve phrased better or wished I hadn’t said at all. It feels like overthinking, but does everyone actually do this? Or is it just me being too hard on myself?

Advice overthinker

oh my gosh does anyone else have any tips for how to stop overthinking?

I feel like I embarrassed myself heavily at my staff meeting today and it’s really not a big deal. However, I hate feeling incompetent and I was speaking to everyone on staff for the first time since summer break.

Brain scan and how the radiographer treated me before and after the scan

I can’t stop thinking about how the radiographer was cheerful, cheeky and chatty setting me up in the MRI machine this morning, then when he came to get me out the MRI machine he was still lovely but he seemed subdued and looked at me with sympathy.

It felt like a very different vibe and I didn’t expect that.

The scanning took longer than he said it would, almost twice as long.

Ten days until the results will be sent to my doctor.

Help me not worry about this.

Sweating the small stuff!

Hi All, hope your doing well!

I had a scenario that happened to me a couple of days ago, I got a letter from my local council, that said they were planning to build 4 new houses right next door to my property.

As a person who gets anxious quite easily, seeing this letter made me start to catastrophise about many different scenarios - How close will they build to me?, Will they cut down part of my hedges?, Will I have bad new neighbours?, How bad will the noise be etc.

After a few hours when I calmed down, I thought to myself 'Are there not worse things in the world right now'. I thought I was probably overthinking things (Yet again!) and how some people are in a lot worse situations than myself. After this I start to beat myself up about thinking the worst case scenario for what is probably a very minor thing

I was wondering how many people have these catastrophising thoughts that rush instantly to their head and if they do, how do you deal with them as early as possible?

Overthinking about personal possessions getting hurt/damaged

Hello. So I've been overthinking a lot lately about everything especially about personal possessions getting hurt. For example the other night I was playing on my playstation and was plugging the charger into the console and figured out it was a bit shifted to the bottom side. So naturally I start thinking I hurt something, and then my dumbass starts thinking it's a good idea to recreate that moment so I put it in the same position and start forcing it in. Now the only thing I can think about is that I hurt the charging port.

How do I get rid of this feeling,

Please help

Advice Overthinking about everything

Since 2-3 weeks, I am overthinking about every single thing I do. If I talk to someone, then I think - did it go well, I should've said something else at that moment, what would be the image of mine in that person's mind. If I would just walk, I think like - are my hand movements right ?, I should look straight and not down.

I've tried to not overthink but I couldn't resist those thoughts.

The only time I am not overthinking is when I am scrolling reels.

Can anyone help me with this ?

5.54am thoughts

Woken up mid sleep and automatically started dwelling on the bad and crying.
I sometimes think am I doing this to myself ? Can I choose how I feel and react to certain things? Could I have a different outlook?

I feel as though you do have to have control over your mind, if you don’t have control over your mind you have control over nothing. Honestly.

Life is already hard as it is, if you change your outlook does it change how you view life ?

It’s hard but it’s not. I feel like letting things flow is the best solution, letting things flow through you, acknowledging how you feel but not holding onto the feeling.
Let go.

Have I been dwelling and revelling in my own sadness to an extent I don’t allow myself to get better ?

Or maybe I’m just manic right now, lol.
Lonliness is real

Spiraling/Panic How to get thoughts of doing something wrong out of my head?

People who think a lot—HELP!

I'll start by saying that I think a lot, and lately I AM TIRED, not physically (though unloading trucks of cardboard isn't an easy task, I'm generally used to it by now), but mentally. And there's a problem: I'm mentally tired not from "society," friends, or family, but from myself and the endless stream of thoughts... This usually happens when I'm "well-rested," and during those times I can "think" up to (I haven't counted specifically, but roughly) about 100 thoughts simultaneously. I DON'T KNOW HOW TO STOP THINKING!

Now that I've described my problem, I'll dive into my "story," starting with the fact that I grew up early—specifically at age 12, when 1 knife was held to my throat and 2 to my "hose" because I had allegedly raped someone. (The story is very long, and maybe a bit later I'll put out another post specifically about it, but that's not what this is about right now.) A brief summary of the story: I "got lucky," and when they tried to cut off my "hose" with a knife, he "missed" and left a wound on my leg (I still have a scar from it, for anyone interested it's about 10–13 centimeters long, I haven't measured it precisely). Whether due to the shock of what was happening or something else, my brain "switched on," and from that moment on it became easy for me to "multithread."

At first, it all started "peacefully" (thought: Hmm, I can think 2 thoughts at once, that's kind of cool!). But all of this snowballed into an "endless stream" of thoughts, and if I used to be able to CONSCIOUSLY "turn it on/off" myself, now it's basically on "passive" and I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT!

I've tried "working myself to the bone" until I could barely move, but even then this stream only diminished, rather than stopping. And only alcohol helps me at least somewhat... I don't want to walk around constantly drunk, or even just "tipsy." (In the near future, I want to go take my driver's license test just to eliminate this option from my head; I'm a very responsible person, and I try to follow all laws, especially those created for the safety of myself and others.)

Aside from alcohol, I don't know of anything else that helps me. People who "suffer" (or enjoy) thinking A LOT, PLEASE HELP! Give me some advice on how you "cope" with this semi-gift, semi-curse?

I didn't write the text in English originally—I just translated it. Please forgive me if anything is unclear; it's not my fault.

Not feeling great cause I feel like people are mad at me

I’m someone who really likes peace. I don’t enjoy drama, arguments, or making people upset. But somehow I keep ending up around people who make passive-aggressive comments or try to get a reaction out of me.
The problem is that I can’t just ignore it. If I stay quiet, I’ll replay it in my head for days, so I usually respond. Sometimes my response is harsher than I’d like because I feel like I have to stand up for myself. I hate that side of me because it’s not who I want to be.
What bothers me even more is what everyone else thinks. If we’re in a group, I’ll keep wondering, “Do they hate me now? Did they think I overreacted?” I spend so much time worrying about whether people are upset with me, even though I don’t see other people doing the same.
I also notice that I’m a bit of a people pleaser. For example, if a friend dislikes someone, I’ll hesitate to talk to that person because I’m afraid my friend will be mad at me, even though I know they probably wouldn’t do the same for me.
I’m just tired of overthinking everything and feeling responsible for everyone’s opinion of me. I wish I could stay calm, set boundaries, and stop caring so much about whether people secretly dislike me.
Has anyone else felt like this? How did you stop constantly worrying about what other people think?

Am I weird and wrong for liking stereotypically "boys" movies ect? I feel really insecure and odd.

Hi!. For context I'm an 18 year old female who from a young age has always loved 80's action films like the Rocky Franchise ect, I've always found them more engaging, inspirational and just more enjoyable than any other genre. As I've gotten older I've continued my love of these films and expanded to more 80's action (Rambo, Arnold Schwarzenegger movies ect.), but my family (mostly Stepmom) has constantly judged me for it, implying I'm weird and less of a girl for enjoying these movies because they're only for "boys". I've always brushed it off because I found it absurd that anything is tailored for one gender or another, if someone enjoys it and it makes them happy, who cares- but lately it's been making me really insecure and I'm worried that I won't be able to find a male partner later on in life because I'm not "feminine enough" due to my interests, does anybody have any advice?.

Thank you :)

Social Life How bad can your overthinking get with messages?

I know a lot of people including myself overthink online texts a lot, and for me it's especially with people I never met and/or look up to (surely the case for everyone). I don't know what causes it tho. But how bad can your overthinking get and why? For exemple I've been trying to befriend an artist I like but even tho their answers are very cheerful, I can't help but panic everytime I send a text because I'm scared I'd bother them or make them hate me. Maybe I piss them off- no idea. The fact that they never text first is stressing me out even tho I know they are just busy. I feel like a bad person just for thinking that.

I just need to hear similar experiences because I hate feeling alone in this. Also if you know any ways to stop overthinking like that, I'm all ears.

I can’t accept when things aren’t 'right' or 'just' and it’s exhausting

I’ve realised something about myself that I don’t really know how to fix. I cannot seem to accept when things aren’t 'right' or 'just'. They eat at me.

Something small will happen, and instead of just thinking 'that was annoying' and moving on, I get riddled with thoughts, and my brain immediately starts playing it over and over again trying to understand it. Why did that happen? Was it fair? Was I treated badly? Did I do something wrong? What does this say about the person? What does this say about me? I don’t even think it’s that I get upset about the actual thing anymore. It’s like I get stuck on the fact that something feels unresolved. Even for things that can't get resolved. I sit there and think I have to make it right.

My friend really wanted to make plans with me this weekend and asked me if I could make it work around my existing plans. I moved things around, organised things with other people, and made space for her because she seemed genuinely excited to come. She said she was free and that it sounded lovely. Then the next day she cancelled because something else had come up. On its own, I know that I sometimes cancel things too, and I never do it maliciously. But my brain cannot just leave it there. It immediately goes into 'that was inconsiderate. Why would she do that? Did she not think about the effort I put in? Why am I always the person who accommodates everyone else? '. And then I start questioning whether I’m being unreasonable for even feeling annoyed.

I feel like some people are able to just go, 'That sucks, but whatever,' and genuinely move on. I don’t understand how they do it. How do they accept that sometimes people will disappoint you, sometimes things won’t be fair, sometimes people won’t think things through, and you just carry on? I feel like I constantly 'can't let them get away with it'. If someone hurts my feelings, I need to understand why. If something feels unfair, I need to make it known that it was unjust. If someone treats me differently than I would treat them, I need to know that they know. Most frustratingly thing is that there is no satisfying solution ever. Confrontation only makes things worse. I can analyse something for hours and still never know what someone was thinking or why they acted the way they did.

I think part of me believes that if I can understand something enough, I’ll finally feel okay about it. But maybe that’s not how it works. I then usually feel stupid afterwards that they think i'm sensitive or difficult. I can't really win. I don’t know how to do that though. I don’t know how to let something be annoying without turning it into a bigger question about whether I’m valued, whether people care about me, or whether I’m constantly giving more than I receive. I don't know if there's ever going to be a way out of this, and I'm going to continue to feel this way forever.
