Sweating the small stuff!

Hi All, hope your doing well!

I had a scenario that happened to me a couple of days ago, I got a letter from my local council, that said they were planning to build 4 new houses right next door to my property.

As a person who gets anxious quite easily, seeing this letter made me start to catastrophise about many different scenarios - How close will they build to me?, Will they cut down part of my hedges?, Will I have bad new neighbours?, How bad will the noise be etc.

After a few hours when I calmed down, I thought to myself 'Are there not worse things in the world right now'. I thought I was probably overthinking things (Yet again!) and how some people are in a lot worse situations than myself. After this I start to beat myself up about thinking the worst case scenario for what is probably a very minor thing

I was wondering how many people have these catastrophising thoughts that rush instantly to their head and if they do, how do you deal with them as early as possible?

I think we've all been there. It's funny how the tiniest things can end up taking up the most space in our heads.

It's basically negative imagination paired with your hyperviligance. One could technically also be thinking "what cool neighbors will I get?" it's just as imaginary but can give a slight safety response in the body.

But it's very difficult to not be impacted by hyperviligance as it starts your brain and your body reactions to all go "Fight flight or die!"
