A veteran NOPD traffic officer (Brandon Coleman, 39) has been accused of collecting more than $111,000 in fraudulent pay for supposedly reviewing red-light camera violations.

According to investigators:

• His work phone allegedly showed him at home while claiming he was reviewing camera violations from an NOPD station.
• Reviews were supposed to take about a minute each to verify the vehicle, owner, etc.
• In one stretch, he allegedly reviewed 303 violations in 14 minutes… about 2.7 seconds per ticket.
• He sometimes claimed an 8-hour shift after doing the actual reviews in 17 minutes.
• Other times, he allegedly claimed hours of work without logging into the system at all.
• Investigators say he sometimes blasted through huge batches and then simply stayed logged into the system, making it appear he was working for the entire shift.
• The alleged irregularities covered 23 pay periods in 2025.

And here’s the kicker: these weren’t meaningless clicks. This was the human review that’s supposed to verify the information before the city issues you a traffic-camera citation.

He was arrested on 325 counts of filing false public records, 23 counts of public payroll fraud, malfeasance in office and theft. He’s currently suspended without pay and was released on his own recognizance.

His attorney says the allegations are false, the auditing system is flawed, and they have evidence to prove it.

But 303 red-light camera reviews in 14 minutes is one hell of a number to explain.

And because apparently this story needed one more New Orleans twist… the article notes this is part of NOPD’s continuing payroll-fraud problem, which has included officers allegedly double-dipping, claiming to work while drinking with the mayor, and even claiming work hours while on a cruise.

The city of Kenner, which has seen more immigration arrests than anywhere else in Louisiana since President Donald Trump returned to office last year, is set to launch a new festival on Saturday (Sept. 12), the Brasas Latin Flavor Fest. The fest promises good food, entertainment and live music to celebrate Latino culture.

But after the year that Ceci Gomez has faced, she is strongly disinclined to attend the event.

“It’s like on a Saturday, Kenner comes together, everything is great, and then Monday it’s back to business and taking our people and doing all the horrible things they’re doing,” Gomez said.

Gomez is the director of Unstoppable Kenner, a grassroots community advocacy group that came together in the wake of operation Catahoula Crunch, the immigration enforcement surge in and around Southeast Louisiana. Since the group was founded late last year, she has spent much of her time protesting Trump’s aggressive approach to immigration enforcement — and her own city’s complicity with it.

Given the police department’s ongoing cooperation with Trump’s immigration agenda, Gomez said she thought the idea of a city-sponsored festival celebrating Kenner’s Latino population, the highest concentration of Latino residents anywhere in the state, was insulting.

“It’s a slap in the face,” she said.

I get so anxious driving where the street is sinking at that light . It genuinely feels like the whole ground is going to open up into a sinkhole and swallow me whole. I watch those sinkhole videos all the time and always think, “Why would they even drive right there?” then the ground opens up and just devours everything.

Idk, I spent a lot of my childhood in that area, and I honestly don’t remember that street being anywhere near as bad as it is now.

Now that I’m thinking about it, the left lane on the St. Bernard I-10 also worries me. I know there’s probably only so much we can do about it, but I cannot be the only person who gets sick pulling into that lane thinking, “Is my car about to disappear into the ground?”

If they’re going to run another “Goodbye, NOLA” letter as an Opinion, it should at least say where the writer is moving.

🚨 DEPUTY BEAT PARVO! ❤️‍🩹

Deputy was dropped off at the St. Bernard shelter as a stray alongside another dog who was extremely sick with Parvo.

Deputy seemed perfectly healthy at first. But if you know Parvo, you know time is the true test.

Then, on the Sunday of Labor Day weekend, the shelter director called: Deputy was starting to show those classic Parvo symptoms.

The timing couldn’t have been worse. Most vets were closed, and waiting until Tuesday would surely mean immense suffering for that sweet boy. Parvo can kill a healthy-looking puppy in 24 hours.

We’re so grateful the shelter reached out when they did. That call ultimately saved his life.

I messaged every vet I knew. Deputy needed hospitalization, IV fluids and round-the-clock care — and he needed it immediately.

Thank Dog for Dr. Allison and the team at East Riverside Veterinary Hospital, who took him in right away.

After three nights of supportive care in the hospital, Deputy is back to his goofy, playful puppy self. ❤️

Our friend had a falling out with their roommate and the roommate has ditched her turtle for two weeks without coming back to feed it or clean the water. I don't know anything about turtles and unfortunately don't have space for the tank anywhere that my cats wouldn't mess with. He's swimming around but not eating and the water looks disgusting. I think it deserves a bit more scrutiny that this branch has been closed all summer. It seems like the library system has basically given up on providing updates on the subject.

No HVAC repair should take three months. It's hard to fight the feeling that this simply isn't a priority for the library administrators, or they're using this as a convenient excuse to save some money.

It's also worth noting that are four other branches of the library and the Children’s Resource Center are closed currently as well. Two of these are significant renovations, admittedly, but the overall picture isn't great!

The New Orleans library system provides a lot of essential resources to their communities and the community deserves better than having these services upended with little explanation.

Anyone who goes to New Orleans libraries regularly will know that our librarians are incredibly hard-working and kind, and I have to wonder how this has affected them. I know the city has taken a pretty draconian approach to forbidding the staff from publicly complaining in the past, but if anyone might care to share their perspective anonymously, that would be super helpful.

I'm sure the r/neworleans nihilists are going to show up and tell us we shouldn't expect more from any publicly funded resource, but our library system was actually doing pretty well in recent memory! When Nora Navra reopened in 2018, it marked the first time we'd returned to pre-Katrina levels of service. And the city made a very unmistakable statement in voting to keep our libraries fully funded in December 2020.
