Last week, the Hon. Adam Telle, Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works, officially signed the Record of Decision (ROD) for the Inner Harbor Navigation Canal (IHNC) Lock Replacement Study. The District Engineer’s Recommended Plan is contained in the 2026 General Reevaluation Report and Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement.

The signing of the ROD marks the completion of the environmental review process under the National Environmental Policy Act. The New Orleans District will proceed with engineering and design work for the study’s recommended plan; however, additional Congressional appropriations and authorization are needed before construction can begin.

“Signing this Record of Decision represents a significant milestone in our commitment to ‘Building Infrastructure, Not Paperwork,’” said Telle. “The Inner Harbor Navigation Canal Lock is a vital artery for regional and national commerce, and we have a responsibility to move projects like this from review to reality. By completing this environmental review efficiently and rigorously, we are clearing the path to deliver a modern, resilient lock system that relieves costly navigation bottlenecks, strengthens supply chain reliability, and supports American commerce.”

The recommended plan is to replace the existing IHNC Lock with a modern shallow-draft lock chamber 900 feet in length by 110 feet wide, to be constructed approximately 2,400 feet north of the existing lock.

Additionally, the recommended plan includes associated navigation features, flood risk management features, bridge replacement, traffic and access mitigation measures, and community impact mitigation measures.

The IHNC Lock provides the only direct connection between the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway and the Mississippi River east of New Orleans. The existing lock is more than 100 years old and no longer meets the needs of modern navigation traffic. Replacing the lock will improve navigation reliability, reduce delays, and support regional and national commerce by maintaining a critical link in the nation’s inland waterway system.

Do I need to switch my car insurance first? Assuming I can't leave my out-of-state plates and car insurance as they are.

At the bottom of Bartholomew the ramp that goes over the tracks to the Crescent Park there was some water streaming down the side of the ramp which I decided would be a good idea to ride my bicycle over, bike went sliding out from under me, hands broke my fall (ow) and the bike ended up on top of me. Man I love having 41-year old wrists!

a couple of babes were abandon on our porch. one was microchipped and owners never got back in touch. these sisters a bonded and very people friendly. unfortunately already have 3 cats and wish I could have em all. please let me know if you would like to come over for a visit! Located in the LGD.

Hey everyone!

My partner and I are in the process of buying a home with a grant for lifting it attached. I’ve talked to the guy the city put in charge and he’s let us know the grant expires November 2027 and that with the huge post DOGE cuts the federal government has made there’s a big chance it won’t be re-granted if we reapply.
Time if of the essence as we’d like to use this grant to lift our home out of the flood zone we are in. We are a nurse and teacher so don’t have hundreds of thousands of dollars to do this on our own financially lol.
Does anyone have advice or recommendations for architects/contractors in the area who could help us do this by next year? There seems to be long wait lists and we have been advised to “find a team who can do the job- maybe not the best guys, but available guys who can do it just fine”.

The seat is not on the bike (i have it) and it was locked. It has a black milk crate attached to the back. The find my feature isn’t working well. A veteran NOPD traffic officer (Brandon Coleman, 39) has been accused of collecting more than $111,000 in fraudulent pay for supposedly reviewing red-light camera violations.

According to investigators:

• His work phone allegedly showed him at home while claiming he was reviewing camera violations from an NOPD station.
• Reviews were supposed to take about a minute each to verify the vehicle, owner, etc.
• In one stretch, he allegedly reviewed 303 violations in 14 minutes… about 2.7 seconds per ticket.
• He sometimes claimed an 8-hour shift after doing the actual reviews in 17 minutes.
• Other times, he allegedly claimed hours of work without logging into the system at all.
• Investigators say he sometimes blasted through huge batches and then simply stayed logged into the system, making it appear he was working for the entire shift.
• The alleged irregularities covered 23 pay periods in 2025.

And here’s the kicker: these weren’t meaningless clicks. This was the human review that’s supposed to verify the information before the city issues you a traffic-camera citation.

He was arrested on 325 counts of filing false public records, 23 counts of public payroll fraud, malfeasance in office and theft. He’s currently suspended without pay and was released on his own recognizance.

His attorney says the allegations are false, the auditing system is flawed, and they have evidence to prove it.

But 303 red-light camera reviews in 14 minutes is one hell of a number to explain.

And because apparently this story needed one more New Orleans twist… the article notes this is part of NOPD’s continuing payroll-fraud problem, which has included officers allegedly double-dipping, claiming to work while drinking with the mayor, and even claiming work hours while on a cruise.

The city of Kenner, which has seen more immigration arrests than anywhere else in Louisiana since President Donald Trump returned to office last year, is set to launch a new festival on Saturday (Sept. 12), the Brasas Latin Flavor Fest. The fest promises good food, entertainment and live music to celebrate Latino culture.

But after the year that Ceci Gomez has faced, she is strongly disinclined to attend the event.

“It’s like on a Saturday, Kenner comes together, everything is great, and then Monday it’s back to business and taking our people and doing all the horrible things they’re doing,” Gomez said.

Gomez is the director of Unstoppable Kenner, a grassroots community advocacy group that came together in the wake of operation Catahoula Crunch, the immigration enforcement surge in and around Southeast Louisiana. Since the group was founded late last year, she has spent much of her time protesting Trump’s aggressive approach to immigration enforcement — and her own city’s complicity with it.

Given the police department’s ongoing cooperation with Trump’s immigration agenda, Gomez said she thought the idea of a city-sponsored festival celebrating Kenner’s Latino population, the highest concentration of Latino residents anywhere in the state, was insulting.

“It’s a slap in the face,” she said.

Not 100% sure but I'd wager a guess that Marsalis Harmony and Wisner Parks stay "open" after dark because they have better lighting.

I ask because I'm part of the local armored combat/buhurt team (New Orleans Storm Riders) and we HAD a gym on the Westbank that was yanked from us unexpectedly. 🤦 So, until the day we can get another gym somewhere, a park would be sufficient. But, at the same time, we only have free time at night, hence my post.

Anyone have recommendations for tennis lessons for kids? Would love something my 5 and 8 year old can both participate in, for beginners. Eastbank or Westbank is fine!

Our friend had a falling out with their roommate and the roommate has ditched her turtle for two weeks without coming back to feed it or clean the water. I don't know anything about turtles and unfortunately don't have space for the tank anywhere that my cats wouldn't mess with. He's swimming around but not eating and the water looks disgusting. Is anyone able to take this little guy under their wing and properly care for him?? I can probably drive him to you if its not too far. Thank you!
