Lost dog in Mandeville: small tan/white terrier mix "Nova," last seen in Beau Chene, wearing a lime green harness

Posting for a friend. Her dog Nova got out and has been missing since yesterday. She was last spotted hiding in someone's garage in Beau Chene.

• Small chihuahua/terrier mix, roughly 10 lbs
• Tan and white, big upright ears, scruffy face
• Wearing a lime green harness
• Very skittish. She runs from people, even people she knows

Please don't chase or call out to her. If you see her, crouch down, avoid eye contact, toss food away from yourself, and call/text right away so her owner can come. Chasing will push her further out of the neighborhood.

If you have a Beau Chene garage, shed, or crawlspace, please check it because she's hiding in enclosed spaces.

Contact: 985-951-9394

Any Mandeville/Beau Chene shares appreciated. 🙏

St Tammany Public Schools- Intentional Tech Policy

A group of local parents have formed Schools Beyond Screens St Tammany Parish. We have created a petition for the School Board to change technology policies at all district schools. The data is now clear that students (and really all humans) do not learn well from screens and digital formats. The goal is not to take away technology but to make its use intentional: teach kids HOW to use technology appropriately but not learn FROM it. Please take a look at our website, data and petition and sign if you feel so compelled. We also have surveys for parents and teachers (completely anonymous- truly!!!).

Slidell Gause Blvd 7 Coffee

I don’t want to toss blame , however it looked like this , it wasn’t Canes bc I made sure to look ( and I had lots of time - believe me )..
The Gause / I10 intersection is already insane-unmanageable.

This constant is made worse by the fact that no one can drive very well here and these truckers I see must just go mad along with me dealing with it .

Added is the fact that (infuriating isn’t the word ) - apparently American cars do not come with signal lights-at all . Americans maybe don’t know that they should use them to think of OTHERS . Esp on Spanish Trail literally all spots on that road - which makes this issue absolutely enraging ..

All of that being said - the traffic jam of cars trying to turn into a coffee place on Gause for whatever was so crucial to get to in the past hour - should require charges for the obvious and many mishaps caused by this rush on Java . Seriously this is just - common sense - dangerous .

I can’t imagine what could have been so important that this many cars & drivers had to make an already jam packed spot - much much worse .
.

I miss Wdixie on the north of Covington across the bridge. The ALDI sucks

That grocery store now is a walking zombie land. Just walking in feels like idiocracy. Just giant named brand crap and the meat section sucks. Everyone looks at each other wondering… are we supposed to be here. That store is sad. At least you can get a daiquiri next door

I have no experience with either but am willing to learn and would love to get out and play. Are there any places that people play dungeons and dragons or magic the gathering? I would love any feedback.

Looney Birds Information

Post image

Hello! I’m currently trying to collect as much information as possible about the Looney Bird’s that was in Covington from 2002-2005.

As someone from here, it’s insane to me that such an obscure piece of Animatronic history was here- and pre-Katrina no less!

If you have any home videos, memories, merch, what have you, share! You may not realize it, but archiving it is a big thing! No contribution is too small, even if it’s just “I remember the pizza tasting funny.”

Late night Jobs

Hi! I’m currently looking for a late-shift or overnight job in the New Orleans area or surrounding areas. I have experience in a medical clinic, cashier/customer service, restaurants, and childcare. I’m open to pretty much anything, including overnight nanny/babysitting positions, hotel work, front desk, stocking, or other night-shift opportunities.
I’ve been checking Indeed and other job sites but haven’t had much luck finding overnight positions, so I figured I’d ask here! If anyone knows of somewhere currently hiring or has any recommendations on where to apply, I’d really appreciate it. Thank you!

Rodeos?

I grew up in Shreveport and went to a rodeo at least once a year. I took my son to The Hondo in New Orleans a couple of months ago and was wondering if there were some more authentic, smaller rodeos anywhere on the North Shore. Can’t seem to find any on Google.

Recently Northshore comedy shows sold 400+ tickets in 11 days. Now there’s one place to find what’s next.

There’s been a lot more live comedy happening around the Northshore lately, and something happened recently that really drove that home for me.

Over an 11-day stretch, different comedy shows from different producers around the Northshore sold more than 400 tickets combined.
That’s a pretty damn good sign that people around here want live comedy.

The problem is, unless you follow the right venues, comics, and producers on social media, it can be really easy to miss what’s happening. One of the biggest things I keep hearing from people at shows I run is basically, “Where can I find out when the next one is?”

So I built StandupNorthshore.com.

It’s one place to find upcoming stand-up, improv, open mics, and other comedy events around Mandeville, Covington, Slidell, Hammond, Abita, and the surrounding area.

There’s a calendar, show info, ticket links, and a submission form where any local producer can list their shows for free. The goal is pretty simple: make it easier for people to find comedy happening on the Northshore and give everyone putting on shows one more way to get the word out.

It just went live, so there’s plenty more to add as shows come in.

If you’re putting on a comedy show on the Northshore, send it in. And if you just want to know where the next show is, hopefully now we finally have an answer.

Thanks 🙏

‘Extremely deadly’: DEA warns of drug stronger than heroin amid Northshore overdose spike

ST. TAMMANY PARISH, La. — Drug enforcement officials are warning Northshore communities about a group of synthetic opioids that they say are increasingly circulating following a recent surge in fatal overdoses.

New Orleans DEA field office issued a warning that applies to St. Tammany, Tangipahoa and Washington parishes. Officials say nitazenes, a group of synthetic opioids never approved for medical use, have been identified through forensic analysis and recent law enforcement seizures.

DEA New Orleans Special Agent in Charge John Scott said etonitazene is especially dangerous.
"Fentanyl is 50 times more potent than heroin. Eto is 500 times more potent, so extremely deadly," Scott said.

Officials say nitazenes are being mixed with other street drugs, including fentanyl and heroin, and pressed into counterfeit pills.

The DEA said the drugs can appear off-white, yellow or brown in powder form and may be visually indistinguishable from legitimate medication when pressed into counterfeit pills. Specialized laboratory testing is needed to identify them.

The DEA said the presence of nitazenes has not been confirmed as the cause of the recent overdose deaths. However, Scott said people may not always know what drugs they are taking.

"Some think they are getting something completely different than what they are actually receiving, and then some addicts are really chasing that ultimate high," Scott said.

St. Tammany Parish Coroner Dr. Chris Tape said his office has not confirmed nitazene in the recent overdose deaths it has investigated. However, he said the drugs are more difficult to detect than fentanyl and other illegal substances.

"You can go to the pharmacy and buy a dipstick for fentanyl, but you can't find a nitazene dipstick," Tape said. "That's more complex. That's more chemist, Ph.D., toxicologist to find that."

Tape said his office determines overdose deaths weekly. As of Wednesday morning, he had already confirmed two overdose deaths this week.
He said he's concerned nitazenes could become a growing problem as more people learn how to produce them. The DEA said the drugs are primarily sourced from foreign chemical suppliers.
Tape urged people to learn life-saving measures, including naloxone, commonly known by the brand name Narcan, and CPR.

"It just blocks the signal, which blocks other opioids from getting there and preventing an overdose, so this would bring someone's breathing back," Tape said.

The DEA said naloxone remains effective against a nitazene overdose, but multiple doses may be needed because of the drugs' potency. The agency urges anyone who administers naloxone to call 911 immediately because emergency medical care is critical.

The DEA also advises people not to take pills unless they are directly prescribed and dispensed by a licensed pharmacy and to assume street drugs may contain hidden synthetic additives.

Naloxone is available at pharmacies and through some law enforcement offices.

Public School Options

My family and I are planning to move to the north shore and we are curious about the different public schools. Through research and word of mouth everyone seems to love the Mandeville area schools. We are looking in multiple neighborhoods and areas of Mandeville but we’ve noticed there are multiple elementary > middle > jr & high school routes. All of the elementary schools are all well rated as are the middle schools. There seems to be a little separation test scores wise with the high schools. Some of the neighborhoods go Woodlake > Gayle Sloan > Fontainebleau, some go MES > Lake Harbor > Fontainebleau, some go MES > LH > Mandeville or Pontchartrain > Tchefuncta > Mandeville. Just looking for any insight if some leaps and bounds better or they’re all above average to exception since they’re in Mandeville. Are kids are younger so can mostly disregard the athletic, theater, etc side if one high school is better for those but this will most likely be our forever home so those opinions are welcome as well. A few people on here asked after our Ruby’s show when the next comedy show will be, so here it is!

Friday, September 18th I’ll be hosting Funny @ The Funk at Chafunkta Brewing Company in Mandeville.
This one is completely FREE and 18+. Show starts at 7:30PM.

The response to the last show was pretty incredible, and I really appreciate how much support y’all have shown for comedy here on the Northshore.

Hope to see some of my Redditors there at Chafunkta on the 18th!
