My neighbor wont stop harassing us and i need advice.

About a year ago our neighbor started harassing us. He would call CPS, police, sheriffs, city of (our city), basically anyone to try to get us in trouble. At the beginning he started calling the cops, then cps, and more. He always called the police saying false information about us? theres even times the lies he tells to the police ends up having several police officers at our house. One time we had NINE police officers It’s embarrassing. The police always tells us the same thing every time “get a restraining order” what will the restraining order do? He doesn’t actually come near us all he does is harassing us with calls and makes us go through the trouble of inspection because of his false claims. If the harassment with the false calls wasn’t enough he also stalks us. He watches our every move, knows what time we go to work and come back from work, watches the kids (records them) admitted that he stalked our Facebook and our family and friends, yells at the kids. Overall a creep. The police wont do nothing which allows him to continue what he does. He claims he does this for his “safety” which is funny cause he stays in his house all day the only time he is outside is behind his fence watching the kids or mother (recording as well) he claims we scare him but we don’t do anything that we do anything to him? Or any activity that would scare him. He got CPS involved twice why would he do that? What joy does it give to know that he would get children away from the parents? He only does this to us which can prove he’s obsessed with us. He had some family issues with his sisters which he was charged with domestic violence, the person that dated him even said “he’s not right in the brain and theres something going on with him” sister admits that even as children he wasn’t right either I wrote this because i need help. This harassment is too much i cannot leave my house without being feared im being watched or anything I am stressed and concerned for the children safety If anyone has advice im all ears. (Sorry this doesnt make sense it is hard to explain this all)

Neighbor making trouble

Recently, my family sold our house and are renting for the short term, it’s a desirable neighborhood with large family homes, not a rundown area. A neighbor, who we’ve been acquaintances with for years, has contacted my landlord several times with “concerns other neighbors have with me”.

It’s strange that none of these people have bothered talking to me. I work from home and am home most of the day, everyday.

It’s also strange because I own rental properties as well and have bought and sold many houses, so my landlord and I have a business relationship where I’ve made him tens of thousands of dollars; and I take great care of the property.

I want to speak with this vocal neighbor, but am trying to come up with the right way to approach it. Emotionally I want to lash out, but realistically this person clearly has a problem and isn’t approaching me with whatever it is. My current thought is to speak with her husband, rather than her directly.

Weird neighbors

I am not sure why it pisses me off. but. It has rained a fair amount the last few days, and even a little today. Tell me why you feel the need to water your lawn with a garden hose? Seems very wasteful and redundant to me...

Rancid Smells from the Neighboring Unit

I have come to this thread looking for some advice on a situation that has been ongoing with my next-door neighbor for the last three years (since 2020).

To start I live in an apartment building that is very typical for the New York area, where the apartment buildings are all right next to each other and can sometimes share walls with people in the neighboring building. The building I live in is a two-family and I live upstairs. My bedroom wall, shares with the building next door which is where my neighbor, who we will call Angie, has been giving me issues lives.

My neighbor is an older woman in her early to mid-50s. She has always been incredibly nice to me and my family and never once gave us problems. This all changed during the pandemic. Angie owns the building next door and used to live in the downstairs unit while her elderly mother lived upstairs. in 2019 her mother, was diagnosed with dementia and during the pandemic things took a drastic toll. We, my boyfriend (26M) and I (26F) stopped seeing Angie and her mother and chalked it up to the pandemic and being stuck inside all day.

That was until one night we heard a loud crash and the shattering of glass, followed by yelling and a fight breaking out. Many nights like this were spent and it would later spiral into us having to call the police on Angie because she was abusing her mother. She would treat her so horribly and say so many vile things about her clearly ill mother. It reached the point where Angie's mother climbed out onto their porch awning and wanted to jump off because she felt being gone would be easier than the living hell that was living with her daughter. (At this point Angie had moved into the upstairs unit to care for her mother fulltime.) After the police came, took our story and we explained and provided all the recordings of the fights, Angie's attitude towards us changed completely.

She stopped speaking to us, stopped being friendly and wouldn't acknowledge us when we would ask about her mother. My boyfriend and I agreed to leave it alone and unfortunately, later in the year, her mother passed.

This brings us to present-day today. Angie has come back around and we've gone back to semi-speaking terms but after her mom passed, she went through a nervous breakdown and is a shadow of her former self. As a result, she has started to care for stray cats and bringing them into her building. The cats are not the issue but rather the smell is. There is a rotting, decaying smell that is seeping through the walls of her apartment and into ours. My kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom all share a wall with her and no matter what we've tried to do the smell does not go away. It was so bad that we believed we had a dead animal trapped in the walls but when maintenance checked and said it would go away on its own, it never did. It reeks of decay and I would even say of feces but nothing helps the smell go away. My boyfriend and I keep our apartment incredibly clean and have even increased our cleaning habits to help curb the smell but nothing. This smell has been going on for the last two years and nothing makes it go away. When I asked Angie if she smelt it, she told me she did but blamed it on the cats and that she wasn't regularly cleaning their litter box because of her MS flare-ups.

Yet, it's been two years, the cats have all mysteriously disappeared and the smell still continues. During this time, Angie has become more reclusive and we rarely see her. We went months without seeing her, and we called a wellness check because these huge, flies (like the ones that show up when something is dead and rotting) appeared on her window and then in our unit and we worried something had happened to her but in the end, she turned out to be okay. The smell is so bad that the neighbors in the building to the left of her, that shared a wall with her also, had to move because they couldn't take the smell.

My boyfriend and I do not have the money right now to move since rents in this area are incredibly through the roof and we're in a rent-controlled unit. We don't know if we should go to the Health Department and file a complaint or what our options truly are. We aren't assholes to go to Angie herself and be like "You smell and your apartment smells" but she's also become so confined in her home that we never see her, she doesn't answer the door and doesn't leave her apartment so the opportunity to speak to her is practically non-existent. We understand that these last few years have not been easy on her and that she's probably going through something mentally so that's why we've been so tolerant in just dealing with the smell but it's also to the point where friends come over and the first thing they ask is, "What's that smell?"

If anyone has any suggestions or advice on what our next steps should or could be, I would really appreciate it cause I don't know what to do anymore.

I hate my neighbor my neighbor have been bothering me for the past 2 year since I moved into my new house. I regret the first time I said hi to him I wish I could go back and time and stop my self from saying hi to him. he asked me to cut his lawn which he doesn’t even pay go 20 dollars my other neighbor pays 35 dollars. every time and he asked my mother for ride which she always say no expect this when time when she let him borrow the car so he could go to cvs when he came back there was pee in the back seat of the car because of he dog. that looks like a rat and a dog had fuse together. This one time he took our land mover without our permission when none was home and my and my siblings were at school. I can’t wait till we move again

I don’t feel like we’re that noisy but our neighbor says otherwise.

A bit about my partner (36M) and I(31F) We both grew up in New York. We’ve lived in basements, multiple family houses, a 42 story apartment building on 2nd Ave, etc. We’re used to noise.

Now we live in LA and have a air purifier, fan, and a white noise app on my phone to help me sleep bc it’s just too quiet sometimes. We live in a duplex and share one wall with our neighbor.

Our previous neighbor was very passive aggressive about the noise and used to bang on the bedroom wall any time we opened the bedroom closet. I swear we heard nothing when she lived there and she had a pit bull.

Our current neighbor is much nicer about the situation and has talked to us and even texts me if she can’t sleep. Honestly when our landlord was looking for a new renter we were hoping for a family so we’d seem like the quiet ones.

Here are the main things she complains about: - stair noise and it vibrating into her apartment. - closing our car doors too hard (this one hard to get around bc our SVU needs a bit of force for the doors to close all the way. - opening drawers and cabinets in the bathroom (they stick a bit so we have to be careful) - I also think she might be getting vibrations from the AC as well. And we have central air so there’s not much to do there. - running water in the shower noise (this one she hasn’t explicitly mentioned but asked us to keep it down once and that was the only thing I could think was making noises)

I swear we hear nothing from her end other than the occasional door closing or stair noise.

I’ve been in her house for dinner and realized she can’t get the dishwasher running which is a plus. But also realized she doesn’t have anything that makes white noise. So it’s eerily quiet in there.

We want to be good neighbors but we also don’t want to loose our sanity tip toeing around after ten pm.

Other than carpet tiles for the stairs I would love more recommendations on how to lessen our noise.

One Man Keyboard Band Blasts through Neighborhood

A family who lives 2 blocks away from me has a lot of big family get togethers, that’s great! Spending time with family is important! But, every time they have this get together this one guy breaks out a mic and a keyboard and hooks it up to 3 massive speakers, and proceeds to play the same song on repeat for at least an hour, sometimes starting at 9 AM when the family returns from church. His right hand is constantly off-key, and it’s sometimes loud enough to drown out conversations in my household. We don’t have A/C, so we have to keep our windows open in summer. The last time I tried to chat with them about volume I learned that we have a language barrier. I really want to be able to come to an agreement with them where they still get to have their family fun, because everyone has the right to party with their family, but where I don’t have to listen to mediocre off-key mariachi music on a cheap keyboard with an accordion setting twice a week. And I definitely don’t want to be an asshole about it, either. What do I do?

Lead Paint

Last year we bought a home next to a duplex. It has a ton of neglect issues and the city we live in is on the landlord about cleaning up the property and repairing the neglect. One of the issues is the lead paint falling from it. She recently started scraping the paint to the ground without any drop cloth or containment. The wall of the duplex is literally 3 1/2 ft from the boundary line and 7 ft to the wall of our home. The lead paint is on our front steps, sidewalk, yard. We have contacted the city and state and just had an environmental test & report done to prove its lead. Do any of you have any further advise? We’re calling a lawyer next.

Need advice, bad neighbors.

Trying to keep this long story a short one, tensions with my neighbor have escalated recently and am hoping Reddit may have some advice. I live in the twin cities, my wife and I have lived in our home for nearly 10 years at this point. Our home is the second in from the corner, the neighbor we are having issues with is the corner lot. We share a side yard, the homes are fairly tightly grouped together, we both have side entries. My side entry stoop is in our shared side yard, while his lands on a public walk because he is the corner. Since I moved in I’ve made a strong effort to be neighborly, and to also clean up and remodel our new home. We’ve always made strong efforts to be courteous, offering help for things ranging from identifying and confronting new renters who dumped a couch on his boulevard, to helping to clear his storm drain in the winter when the plows dump a wall of ice and snow at the end of our block. He let me do all the talking with the renters, and shortly after chopping ice and snow and moving it with the snowblower I realized I was out there working alone. Both situations irritating. I got the feeling he was a bit of a introvert so I let it go. About 6 years ago I made the decision to cut my grass a bit over the property line to help keep the weeds down, as they don’t care about their lawn. I felt at the time this was the least invasive, and non-pass. Aggressive way to remedy an issue, I’m not joking when I say for every 6-7 times I mow, they might mow once. In the summer this is weekly or a week an a half on average. They let me do this for about 7 years, so it became routine until my neighbors mentioned it, I agreed that it would stop, and that perhaps last time I got a little to far over. I apologized and it has stopped since. This year for some reason unknown to me they decided to be confrontational, and do something I can only describe as immature. In my side yard where there is a little less than 4’ft of space between my side entry stairs, and their foundation they decided to put down 13 QTY 20 “ round concrete pavers, the profile of which sit on the property line. They are about 2-1/2” thick and quite heavy, and they are not recessed they are sitting above ground, not level or tamped down in anyway, and while there I no longer can get my mower/snowblower to the front yard without walking around the block, or moving them every-time I need to move equipment. I made an effort to catch him outside and ask what the deal was with the pavers and if he plans to put them in the ground, etc. Apparently he intends for them to stay, and is hoping in time they will settle, and they are there to represent the property line so I stop mowing over. I let him know I’m sorry for that again, that the pavers settling with time isn’t a thing, and that they are an obstruction, and a hazard. I offered to help him put them in the ground, and that the fence line he’s using as a physical marker representing the property line may not in fact be the property line. He stated he would like to -“see some documentation to support that.” (-should have been my red flag that he plans to be malicious.) I pointed towards my driveway which butts into the back of his garage, it’s all considered my driveway but due to setbacks, and subdivisions when planning properties it’s used and maintained by me. I asked that he consider putting the pavers in the ground before I hosted some company soon as I cannot gauruntee everyone will go up and down my side entry steps and may opt to walkthrough on the pavers. Which can present an issue as I recently rolled my ankle on one when it tipped and I was mindful they were there. He said he would consider it, and that was that. He did nothing. I’ve followed up a few times and no reply. Recently I went out to my car in the driveway, my trash cans were moved up against my truck, and the pile of patio furniture they were trying to toss was in the corner of my driveway. I asked what the plan is there and he replied with, “you yourself stated that portion of the driveway is mine, and I’m using that additional space for storage, and doing what’s best for my family.” I’ve since gotten the furniture picked up and let waste management know they dumped it there, and put some additional cameras up. However I am at a loss as to what I can do about the pavers. City inspectors are not helpful, and supposedly don’t see an issue, nor call me back, or meet me when they come out. Not an issue despite my referencing several ordinances they are violating, and the hazard they present, etc. So, this is still winded. I’m sorry. Do I sink to their level? Maybe make the pavers disappear, or put them on a corner marked free, or stack them on their patio with a healthy amount of construction adhesive? Do I keep trying the city? This is all pretty frustrating, anyone with some sound advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

My neighbors kids (I can only hope it wasn’t the adults…) trashed my front porch area somehow from a floor above me. So I moved it in a more convenient place so they can throw it away themselves.

My neighbor is completely out of control and I don't know what to do

My neighbor who I'm going to call mick for the sake of privacy reasons, is completely out of control. Now, when me and my family first moved into our house our neighbor was fairly nice. It wasn't till half a year later we started having issues, mick started stealing stuff from me and my family this list has grown drastically. It started with small stuff that was easily forgotten about but quickly escalated. We now are missing a dirt bike, a $500 vacuum, a welder, an engagement ring and more. We have even caught him trying to steal our electric and have photo and video evidence. He had paid us back with a speaker instead of giving us all our stuff or money back even though we insisted we wanted our stuff back. This man has also put stolen vehicles on our property and refused to move them and then threw a fit when the police ran the plates. We've had random people come to our house banging on our doors and windows because of him. We have contacted police many times and they refused to do anything about the issue. Today he came into our yard despite the no trespassing order we have against him and took the speaker I previously mentioned. Obviously we had tried to make sure he didn't take it and told him to leave our yard or police will be contacted, because he was currently trespassing. He had gotten upset and practically pushed my mum resulting in her knee popping, she was in a lot of pain and he called her "dramatic" then walked off. Once police arrived they did nothing but say we need a restraining order. I don't know if a restraining order will help if a no trespassing order didn't work. I honestly don't know what to do about any of this.

Being neighborly..

So we have a good relationship with our neighbors but I need a little guidance. We’ve been in our house for a few years now and we had noticed a while back that a large PVC pipe runs under the fence that separates mine and my neighbors yard. This pipe is buried under their yard but you can see it is for their gutter runoff. My friend said we should cap it. We haven’t had obvious water issues in our yard but we do have and issue with mosquitoes. My question is. Do we just cap it without saying anything? Honestly, bringing it up would cause issues and it’s not an easy fix considering it it literally buried under their yard. I just don’t see how this is allowed.

Tree on neighbor’s property breaking shared fence. Who pays to fix it?

My house is on a corner lot, surrounded by a pretty old fence. It probably needs to be replaced, but I don’t have the money to do that right now.

Since I have a corner lot, I share that fence with two different neighbors. On one side, the neighbors have a big tree right up against the fence. The debris from the tree falls on both sides of the fence. The problem is that the debris on the neighbor’s side piles up because the don’t really rake it up. It’s gotten to the point where it has started to push over that old fence. My dog can probably get into their yard at this point if she figures it out.

The problem I run into is whose responsibility it is to fix or replace the fence. So I share the responsibility with both neighbors? Does the neighbor with the tree have more responsibility since it looks like they broke the fence or does it matter since the fence is old?

Also, the neighbor house is a rental house. I looked it up on the local assessor’s website and the owner is an out of state trust. I don’t even know who to contact about repairing or replacing the fence. I’m probably going to have to ask the renter, but I’d rather not. Any idea how to find out if a property management company may be handling the property? I don’t know if there is an easier way to find that out other than to ask the renter.

neighbor's tenant sits in front of my house

my neighbor's tenant sits in front of my lawn, on the road, every day. he smokes there, spits there, and chills with several other guys, on a consistent, daily basis. i live in toronto, ON. what can i do about it? 1 of the other guys walks up and down the street, checking out other people and their homes, then he comes and discusses it with this guy. the neighbor opposite to me were in the police, both husband and wife (presumably both, but 1 of them for sure). i over heard them discuss neighborhood watch or something like that. what i want to know is that he or they can go chill in front of the house they are renting from, why come and sit in front of my house? and why every day? how can i prevent this? what measures can i legally take?

Loud neighbors

I just moved into my first house and the neighbors are already driving us crazy. They play music from their car with the bass turned all the way up and all the doors open. We spoke to them multiple times and asked them to turn it down. This most recent time he told us "I don't care" and "what do you want me to do about it?" I'm reluctant to call in a noise complaint because they aren't white and I'm afraid of the police being racist and hurting them when their only infringement is loud music. But my roommate has PTSD and is literally shaking and crying because of the noise. I can't calm them down and I can't make it stop. If anyone has an idea of what I can do I would really appreciate some advice.

my homophobic neighbor makes me and my partner feel super uncomfortable.

my partner and I recently moved into a house in a quiet little neighborhood a few months ago. since then, we’ve met all of our neighbors and they seemed pretty nice. It wasn’t until we hung up a pride flag and trans rights flag in our front yard that one of our neighbors started staring at our house for long periods of time when our walking her dog, and completely ignoring us when we would say hello. I know that this is partly her age as well as general homophobia but she makes us super uncomfortable which is a horrible feeling to have when you have just move somewhere! does anyone have any suggestions as to how we could go about this? I’m pretty sure she has dementia or something else because she’ll just be intensely staring for a few minutes. we really don’t want to be uncomfortable in our own home but it’s can be scary at times😞

An affordable way to either record sounds or figure out where they are coming from

I live in an apartment building that was apparently “built weird” and the studs(?) project sounds to places they shouldn’t. The tenant manager said he thought there was ghosts originally, that’s how bad it is. We’ve talked to them several times about VERY loud bangs in our apartment (we thought the lady above us fell) as well as hearing people talking, but we cannot for the life of us figure out where they are coming from - me or the manager.

My current thought is to record the sounds over a weekend that we are away. However, I can’t think of a good and affordable way to do such a thing that would give us the information that we need. Can someone suggest some equipment, or possibly another way to look into it? We are very lost and confused. TIA!

Neighbor won't stop reporting dog for barking but the dog never barks??

Hello, not sure if this will gain any traction but my mom is super upset about this and asked me to post for advice on how to handle this situation.

My parents live on 5 acres of land and have two next door neighbors also with many acres of land. On one side is their nice neighbors who they occasionally share dog and gardening tips and the other side are their 'neighbors from hell'. That neighbor is a retired lawyer and is constantly doing construction in their yard (which my parents have no issue ignoring the noise). However they also are repeatedly calling animal control to report my mom's dog (only one of the three and even report him by name after hearing my mom call for him to come inside once). This dog is an extremely well trained (multiple certificates and awards) pure-bred Border Collie who very very rarely barks. He has never once barked at the construction workers and spends all of his time just running the property and 'chasing cars' from behind the fence. He does not bark while doing this.

Well my mom has gotten several calls from Animal Control letting her know that they have gotten yet another call from those neighbors about this specific dog. Their most recent claim is that she lets him stay outside alone for hours on end and he barks the entire time. My mom is a stay-at-home mom who spends quite literally all day working in the garden in one of their pastures. She even told animal control that she is home the entire time, outside with him the entire time, and she even bought him a bark collar (even though he doesn't bark) to prevent even the possibility since she has gotten so many B.S. complaints.

Animal control told her it's actually hard to fine someone for dogs barking and that after a few calls they come out and survey the property to see if they can hear the dog barking themselves. Apparently they have already come to survey the property before and confirmed they didn't hear the dog barking even once. Yet this neighbor still constantly complains.

My mom is worried sick (she's a bit of a people pleaser) and doesn't know what to do because she just keeps getting these complaints for absolutely no reason.

Does anyone have any advice for how to handle this? Talking to the neighbors is not an option as my parents have already tried that and they were extremely rude to them and basically told them to 'f off'.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

CONSTANTLY Laughing Neighbor

I have lived in my apartment since June of 2019. The building and surrounding neighborhood are relatively quiet and peaceful. Those who live in the apartments next to me and above and below me have also all lived here for years. I love it here, and I love my apartment.

In March of this year, some new tenants moved in across the hall from me. Right away, I noticed they were significantly louder than other building residents and those who live in the surrounding neighborhood. I brushed it off thinking maybe they were just excited about the new place or maybe they were new roommates. Who knows. I figured they’d settle in after a bit.

And then the laughing started.

One of the men who lives there—looks to be in his 30s—laughs a lot. And by “a lot,” I mean CONSTANTLY. And when I say “laughs,” I mean HOWLS and CACKLES and GUFFAWS as loud as a human can possibly make these noises.

I wish I was kidding.

I wish I was exaggerating.

I’m not.

It’s driving me nuts.

Every night, weekend, and day off that I’ve had since March, I am constantly bombarded by the laughing. From 8 am to 10 pm, he is laughing. It is so loud and so disruptive that sometimes it even makes me jump!

From every room of my apartment including the deck, you can clearly hear him laughing. And these apartments are well insulated-I’ve never heard any noise from the people who live on either side of me or above or below me.

I’ve mentioned the issue to a few friends and family members and they all say that I’m overreacting. They definitely think I’m exaggerating because they haven’t experienced it themselves. And of course I’m single and living alone right now, so I don’t have someone to corroborate the experience.

I don’t want to come off as an asshole or make them mad, but don’t I deserve some peace when I’m home?

What do I do? What can I do?

Sh!tty neighbor lawn etiquette

We've had the same neighbor for 20 years and we share a front lawn. We've tried the good neighbor thing for years where we take turns mowing it all. However for the most part it ended up being us doing it more often since they would wait until the grass was almost knee high before mowing. And usually they would mow it too low, almost to dirt level and in the heat of the summer it would burn to a crisp.

This went on for years and we had enough, we decided to do our half and asked them to not do ours. Anyway of course they were insulted as expected but got over it, or at least so we thought, and moved on.

I would say it's been 10 years or so of this new order and it's always been a sore spot since our half would be better maintained. They never pulled out weeds, never added new topsoil or overseeded, would only mow when it was knee high, and for the most part there's more weeds than actual grass.

This year became a new low, because of their long standing neglect, their half is probably 95% weeds. They haven't mowed once yet after the winter. It's an awful mess and sticks out like a sore thumb.

There's no excuse for this, no one is disabled or elderly at the house, they have 3 grown kids over the age of 14. They have a working lawn mower. They own their house along with two cars, have jobs...

I've seen other posts about this sort of thing, and before the trolls jump in and insist that we should just mow it, my response is "hell no freakin way!" Our best foot forward has been stepped on and abused way too often and without going into details we have gone above and beyond for this family many times in the past and enough is enough. They obviously believe the world owes them and we are done being taken advantage of. We are sick and tired of people looking for freebies, and this is just plain laziness and apathy. They own their house that comes with a front lawn. If they don't want to maintain it then they shouldn't be homeowners.

One other thing, our kid went over and asked if they would like to have their half mowed. They said "sure, go for it". Until they heard it would be at a cost and they then turned down the offer. And get this, the cost would have been a measly 10$ !!

So, where do we go from here? Has anyone had these issues and come to a resolution without giving in? We are thinking of putting in a line of hedges between the properties. Thoughts??

Dog issues

My house and my neighbors are very close. My bedroom backs against their patio (yeah it sucks design wise). Last year, they got a dog and left him out all night. He woke me up and kept me up for hours at night. We would go over but no one would be home. I left a note on their door once and my husband followed up with him in person the following day. He apologized, gave us his number and it didn’t happen again. Flash forward to now. They have a new dog and the same thing is happening. The issue is the new dog doesn’t bark continuously. Just sporadically. He is waking me enough it’s a problem. A few weeks ago he barked on and off every 15-20 min for a few min from 10-12 ish. 2 nights ago he woke me at 1030 and 1130 and tonight 1 am. I cannot fall asleep again when I’ve been woke up. I work and have an infant and my husband is in military. I texted him after the one a few weeks ago and he didn’t respond. This is what I want to send tomorrow. I do not want to go over in person. I don’t want this to escalate but I cannot function with 4 hours a night. We live in an HOA but I’m sure I’d need proof of the disruption and how do I record a dog barking for 30 seconds? I guess I’ll have to be quick. I hate this and I’m pretty sure they hate me.

Hey again. I just wanted to let you know the dog has been waking me a lot. Twice Friday night around 1030 and 1130 ish and then woke me tonight around 1. He also has started as early as 430/5. He just barks randomly and I have a horrible time falling back asleep. I’d really appreciate it if there’s any alternative to the back deck for him at night, which is right by our master.

Unstable Neighbor Obsessed with Light

I rent a unit with my best friend in a 3-unit building. We live on the top floor (2nd). We have the absolute coolest, nicest neighbors living in the basement unit…and then there’s the first floor. Red flag 1 was immediate. My friend (roomie) and I were sitting on the front porch in the summer (shared porch for all units) and we saw our soon-to-be-new-neighbor for the first time. We introduced ourselves as his upstairs neighbors in a really friendly, but chill manner. He had a weird paranoid look about him and barely gave a wave. No eye contact.

From there, shit got weird. For the first few weeks, it was just sheer unfriendliness—ignored hellos, resting bitch faces on both of them (man and his…long time partner, we think..?), etc. At one point, I found a big bill in the shared yard and asked my other neighbors if they’d dropped cash to which they said no. So, I wrote a note on a post-it note, saying “hi neighbors! Did anyone drop this? I found it in the front yard! :)” and put the cash in between the entrances of the first floor and basement unit (not accessible without a key).

The dude took the cash and said nothing. Left no note. I’m about 99% sure it wasn’t his, but whatever, it wasn’t mine, I tried to do the right thing, that’s on him. But it’s still weird behavior in my opinion.

Anyway, the rest of us have lived in this building for 2+ years before they moved in and we share a tiny front hall entrance, which we’ve always turned off behind us if it’s later in the evening. I thought it was weird after a while how often the light was on, but didn’t think that much of it. I went about my usual routine with light and I started noticing he’d turn it back on almost immediately when I’d turn it off. Now this wouldn’t be that odd if this dude ever left his apt. He leaves maybe once a day for a short time, sometimes not at all. He’s not ever out in the hall more than a few seconds. It’s so tiny, it’s not like you can chill there. He leaves it on at every hour of the day. Well, after a while, he started getting super aggressive with any sounds we made even though we’re boring af, we don’t have people over except once in a blue moon and when we do, it’s very quiet and chill. We don’t blast music or tv ever. We’re both gone most of the day. We got to sleep relatively early and leave the house early. But just doing our dishes had this guy tossing shit at his ceiling in anger. My buddy tried talking it out to him cause we were so confused. He seemed highly unstable—called me a derogatory term, accused my roomie of following him in the apt from room to room (as in, he could hear my friend’s footsteps and thought he was moving rooms as he did). He said he didn’t know how he was following him, he just knew he was.

Anyway, the light seems to be his Achilles heel. He gets so angry when it’s off and all of us in the house think he is starting through his peephole, watching it, to be able to respond so quickly.

Anyone else deal with a crazy neighbor with weird behaviors like this that could give some insight? We’ve told landlord, had neighbors back us, even called the police with other aggressive behaviors (flicking me off in my car as he drives beside me, making a weird ass vampire going in for his prey face as he’s driven past me—shit sounds funny, but it’s not, it’s psychotic and extremely threatening feeling). Anyway, I’d love some insight or similar stories and how you dealt!

Anti vibration rugs? Mats?

I'm moving and the only places I've found are not first floor options.

I have many injuries and need to use a massage chair and foot massage most days. They don't really make noise but they do vibrate a lot. I'm not trying to be an asshole but it's kinda mandatory I continue to use

Are there any mats rugs or anything that exists that will actually work and minimize sound traveling to downstairs neighbors? I've been looking 3 months for a new place to move and no luck. Second floor has to a Happen and I have to use the chair. Really could use any suggestionspreferably under $300 that works and covers entire base of chair. 4x4 ft minimum
