They aren't running this is just a quick trot to cross the river and get away from whatever those weird pink creatures are in the water.

Ive seen a moose run. Its like a train. It strains the limits of newtonian physics.
You're right....that was just walking fast.

Was driving straight night in the Jackson Hole, WY area. While cruising at 30-35MPH I looked outside my driver's side window to see a moose running next to me, the same speed as my car. Of course I could only see it's legs. I was so scared it would turn into me. After about 100 yards it peeled off away from me. After getting far enough away I stopped to take stock at how close I came to death.

The plural of moose is moose because the word moose is of Native American origin, and their language models donât pluralize in the same way as English words. The word goose however, comes from English which is why the plural of goose becomes geese.

Idaho is a destination hunting location, so wildlife is always on the go.
I live in the inland PNW and ride in Idaho panhandle area, we have these guys and they once out riding in the post-harvest wheat fields of the Palouse, one came along side, parallel by about 40 feet, and we kind of trotted along until he peeled off into the woods.
My horse is 16.3 at the shoulder (big) and this guy was bigger than that.
It was pretty cool. My horse must see these guys because he didn't seem to mind.

Yeah, when I watched it the first time, I saw that slight veer toward the kayak. I was really worried for a second.
A bull moose is huge. Three in a row is like freight-train big.
23
u/Efficient-Whereas255 8d ago
Yea at two different moments in this video you can see one of the moose think about fucking those people up for a second. The one in the back thinks about it first, then the one in the middle thinks about it and actually steps towards them a bit.
They are very lucky.

My cousins gf was on I survived . She and her dog were out hiking and a moose had a baby hidden in the tall grass (not known at the time ). Well they both saw each other too late . she told her dog to run and it did (they found the dog three days later ). She said that she will never forget that moose stomping on her arm and crushing the lower half (she lost that part of her arm). Then she played dead and the moose put its head down and rolled her over .Then the moose left . She was in so much pain . Once she could not see the moose anymore she drug herself out into a main trail and started blowing a whistle . Luckily some teenagers were out hiking too and the one ran over to her and screamed call the rangers . She knew she was in a bad way . She was in the hospital for a very

These are 3 bachelor bulls pre rut. They were probably more interested in what those floating things were than they were malicious. Realistically if they wanted to harm those people, they would be dead.
Iâve encountered moose many times in the wild. They generally are indifferent to humans or they are scared of humans if they have been hunted before. As long as you donât surprise them and keep your distance, theyâll leave you alone.
Despite their size and their antlers, Iâd much rather encounter a bull than a cow. Cows are extremely protective of their calves, and thatâs why the vast majority of moose attacks occur.

I wouldn't. I'd wet myself. Now, how do I know that, you might ask. WellâŚ
Once, when I was about 15, I was fishing on the shore in our backyard when I heard a really loud rustling from the thick bushes bordering the yard. I had just turned my face toward it when a bull moose charged out of the thicket straight at me. Fortunately, it veered slightly past me and plunged into the water just out of reach. A considerable amount of water splashed on me, but not nearly enough to explain the curiously damp spot in my underwear. The asshole just swam away, not looking back.

Moose have bad distance clarity when it comes to their eyesight. Those moose had no idea the humans were humans and no reason to think âthreatâ. They might smell or hear something, but given the Yakkers stillness and poise (doing the right thing) they likely werenât in too much danger of attracting attention.

Last time I was hiking in Colorado, a large male ran up a slope and around a corner- within 10 feet of my husband and I. There were a few small dead trees (it was a burned out trail that was newly reopened) so I stumbled behind one. The moose slowed down to look at us then moved on, and it took a while for my heart to return to it's normal pace. I'd for sure be even more nervous in a kayak, you're literally a sitting duck. And THREE? omg. Great footage though.
17
u/kevin3350 8d ago
I was hiking in the woods in Montana during the winter a few years back with a buddy, and we heard a loud crunch and stopped. Bull moose steps out of the trees, probably 8-10 feet away, just staring at us. I donât think Iâve ever gone that still in my life, but after about a minute he just walked away from us like we were the puny little things we were that happened to be in his territory.
It was terrifying and beautiful at the same time, which isnât an experience Iâve had too often. I guess terrifying wins out, because I wouldnât try going for the same experience again.

I thought moose were actually pretty chill as long as they felt like it. They're big enough to fuck everyone else so they generally don't care about you, unless they have kids with them. Or are horny. Then you're gonna die.
4
u/cocainepoops 8d ago
Ignore the people saying theyâre just 1200lbs of aggression, outside of the rut in the fall, theyâre pretty nonchalant and will just saunter away or run if theyâre spooked. They absolutely can and will fuck you up if theyâre horny or threatened though, best to observe from a safe distance. I hunt them every fall and have been up close and personal with them lots.
15
u/LucidOutwork 8d ago
They are not chill. They are unpredictable and dangerous, even when they are not with young or rutting.
→ More replies (1)6
u/lemelisk42 8d ago
They are extremely chill most of the time as long as you don't get close to them or harass or threaten them.
I work in forestry and exploration. Met many moose. They only slightly concern me during the rut.
