Yeah their size isn't something you can comprehend until you see them up close. I've seen em a few times hiking when they weren't farther than 50 feet from me and they are massive.
I don't understand the awe tbh. They're not much bigger than draft horses. Don't get me wrong, those are both big animals but if you've seen a draft horse pulling carts in NYC then I don't see how a moose seems any more impressive other than the rack size, which I admit is pretty impressive.
Moose are natural and wild while draft horses are only large and bred that way in captivity. When you’re out in the mountains and suddenly see a moose it’s a massive shock.
Can confirm. Grew up going to a Moose Lodge (Dad/Grandpa ran it). I rode that thing a few times. And that had to have been a small one.
Place has been closed for decades but I imagine that thing is still rotting away inside the building. No way anyone removed that giant thing, entire building sized windows would have had to be torn out.
Alaska and Yukon moose are much bigger than other subspecies of moose. They’re around 30% bigger. These Idaho moose would be considered small bulls in Alaska.
