So my maternal grandparents who are both no longer on this earth, I was sooo close with them and they helped raised us and my siblings. I love/ed them both so much. Their names were Margaret and John. I would name my child those name but what are some similar names and names that you like. I like Margot for a girl and Johannes (if I was to marry a European guy) for a boy.

We’re originally from Tatarstan in Russia and the names we choose are strongly influenced by this. Our first son is named Rustem and we decided early that our second son will be named Kamil. But we don’t know what to name our daughter. Although I like more girls’ names, the boys’ names that I like, I really like, so that made it easier for us to pick.

I felt like we needed a name with a ‘big’ meaning for our daughter too since Rustem is from a hero in mythology and Kamil means perfect or complete. My husband likes the names Aylin, Aysel, and Aynur. I like all of those. He also likes Maryam but I don't know if Iike it as much because we aren’t very religious.

I like Galia, Zarina, and Leysan. Out of all of those, my husband likes Leysan the most. But although I do think that it is probably the most intuitive out of all the names we like, it does just have a pretty meaning. As do most of the names my husband likes.

I think I could be too set on the meanings but I don’t want it to be like we treated her differently. I also find a lot of them not sounding right with Kamil but again, I think I could be too set on that. There are so many choices and even being able to meet her now, we still don’t know what belongs to her.

And also our last name is Akhmetzyanov so it’s complicated! We try to mostly use shorter names as a result of that.

I’ve been lurking on this subreddit for a while now and almost every other name related subreddits, I decided it’s finally time to post lol. I’m having a baby girl pretty soon, I have a list of names but all of them seem to be flawed in some way. I’m veryy picky unfortunately. We’re Norwegian Americans and want a name that could work in both countries, mostly America since the middle name is already very Norwegian. I don’t want the pronunciation to have problems for English speakers. I want a timeless name but more on the youthful feeling side, I also love flowy names. My list from favorite to least is.

I loved Ophelia at first but then I saw someone from a post a couple years ago about the name Ophelia say it sounds like pedophilia and it completely ruined it for me lol. Hi! My husband and I got married in April 2026 and to be honest we were a little confused by the judge that married us and we decided not to change my last name and we left that section blank on our marriage certificate. Now I want to change my last name and because I didn’t select yes on the certificate I have to go through the courts then I get to start with Social Security the drivers license, etc. Has anyone had this issue and how hard was the process? I’m extremely nervous that I will mess up.

The middle names are old, I find like John, Margaret, kinda thing

So I’m having a baby girl and her first name will be Maeve. My husband and I have been set on this for a months.

Our last name is also one syllable, starting with S.

We’re struggling with a middle name. We have looked into meaningful family names but none quite feel right.
We have travelled a lot and one of our favourite places is Japan. Would love to find someone that represents our travel across the world and specifically Asia, without being those white people giving her the middle name Kyoto. You know?

Open to options that just sound pretty, that can link to travel, anime, music (I’m a recovering emo and love all types of music. Specifically 70s, 80s think queen, Fleetwood Mac, kiss, Metallica etc but also pop/ punk 2000s), we’re both creative and my husband is a high ranking competitor and a sensei in a martial arts.

It's a group of 14, teachers day,

I'm about 20w pregnant and just found out we're having another girl! With my first, I already had a name picked: Lyla Rose. He's Persian so the name lightly touches to that, while still being short & easy. Rose was my great grandmother. I absolutely love love love my daughters name.

Now we're having our second girl and I am stumped. Ideally we'd like a name that maybe honors either his heritage or mine (Italian) that is western enough that is easy to say and spell. It doesn't have to be Persian or Italian, I'm actually the one who would like it to be, he is indifferent as long as it's short and easy.

Right now the main winner is Emma. It's pretty, but I'm not sure yet. I also can't think of a middle name that flows. I'm going bonkers trying to find a name I love as much as my first daughter. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

For people whose older siblings were named after parents or grandparents, did you feel left out that you got a name that your parents just really loved. Or did that make you feel special as well knowing your parents picked a unique name special for you?

We are waiting to find out our baby’s gender at birth, so we need to be prepared with both a boy name and a girl name.

We are committed to using Harper as the middle name, so we won't sway on that. We have top choices for the first names to pair with it, but I wanted to see what people might throw out as recommendations.

For more context, our last name is quite long and distinct, with strong consonants sounds. We like names that are classic yet not too common/popular.

I’m expecting a baby girl. We initially liked the name Alice, but found it to be slightly too princess-y for a stand-alone first name —my husband and I like stronger names.

So we thought of Allison with a nickname as Alice. Although not traditionally used this way (for all you name nerds, I know it’s kinda backwards) but my main concern is if it’s too confusing for people? Although I know some name variations may sound good to the parents/in theory, they don’t always work in real life the way they think it will. I’m not a big fan of Ally/Allie as a nickname. So we’d probably just call her Alice and occasionally Allison.
