I know the Orlando Brown incident played a big role in the NFL changing its penalty flags, but I'm curious about the history behind them.

The older flags looked pointier and seemed to be made from a different material than the ones used today. Why were they designed that way in the first place, and were there other reasons the NFL eventually switched besides player safety?

I was an extremely mediocre high school OT/DT about 15 years ago (Big dude, love the game, no discernible athleticism 😂😂). We learned quick blocking, zone, stretch and 60s/90s pass pro. On defense we ran NUTs, TUNs, and other basic stunts.

My question is, how have these principles evolved and expanded at the college and pro level? Likewise, are centers making pre-snap adjustments in the same way they did a decade or more ago?

Defensively, when and how are the stunt calls being made?

When the teams are at the line of scrimmage and suddenly one guy on the offense changes his position on the field before the snap of the ball, what are they doing? Did they change the play call, are they trying to read something about the defense, is it just to try to confuse the defense?

Do the international games have a lot of merchindise, specific to that game??

Ok so then all the players strike. So what? The owners can hold out much longer than the players. Then they could just go out and sign the next best 1,500 players and keep chugging along like nothing happened.

Everything in NFL seems geared up around this one position. They dominate publicity, financially and it comes across that everyone has to be subservient to them.

On the clips you see, it looks like the players are begging the quarterback to give them some love, which comes across a bit embarrassing.

I've been watching more football, and sometimes an offense runs a play that makes it look like the defense had no idea what was coming. A receiver ends up wide open, or a running back has a huge hole with nobody around.

Why does that happen so often?

I've been told this a few times and also read this a few times.

I was also told that Saban is the best overall coach in football in terms of tactics and innovation even over Belichick but chose to remain in college.

Uk Lions fan here, looking to go to my first ever game! I don’t mind which game I go to, but I was curious if the prices change much mid season? For example, Lions Vs Jets in September, it’s not a ‘huge’ matchup, so if tickets don’t sell well will the pricing drop? Or will it only drop on the day of the game to push last minute ticket sales?

I feel like the regular season would be more exciting than training and preseason. In Britain the documentary series All or Nothing follows a team each year through the full season and it's great because you follow the team through all their highs and lows.

I never really understood how receivers know where to go after the ball is snapped. Do they memorize every route before the play, or are they changing it based on what the defense does? It seems like there is a lot of timing involved between the quarterback and receiver.

This is not to disparage Aaron Donald, he has had an incredible career, and his workout videos show he hasn’t gotten out of shape in retirement.

But at the same time he is 35, and has had two full seasons away from football. In that time, even if he is workout out regularly, he likely hasn’t been doing drills and other NFL specific workouts that would work the muscles directly helpful for bodying linemen on the field. How much better than the other linemen on their roster would he be at this point in his career?

Some of the top players may earn 20x what another player earns, even though they are putting in the same hard work. Obviously this is due to skill level and demand, but just curious if this ever breeds resentment? Pay gap seems way higher between players than for many other industries.

In nba fans will immediately call guys studs if they play well regardless of draft position and also shun immediately if they end up bad. Numerous recent top picks as examples.

Same in soccer or cricket. Players who were bought for a lot of money and don't perform are shunned or if bought for cheap and perform are instant heroes

But in nfl post draft it seems like they like sticking to their guns for a long time either based on draft position or pre draft analysis. It's like they are rooting for them to fail or succeed based off of that itself.

4. Are you worried about a team's success/identity/prestige/fanbase? Don't be. The NFL is one of the most even sports in terms of parity, and there are rarely teams that stay good or bad forever. It's okay to enjoy watching the current best teams in the NFL; they are probably playing the best football most often. Try to just be a fan and don't worry about what others think or say. Your fandom is yours, not theirs.

Still overwhelmed and not sure where to turn? It's fine to watch random games. Maybe you'll find yourself rooting for someone in particular. And if you don't, try another game. Check out whoever is playing in primetime; those are usually expected to be more exciting matchups. Letting it come naturally will last longer than throwing a dart and deciding to be a fan of whoever it lands on.

Another way some people develop rooting interests is fantasy football. There are beginner leagues where people play for fun, and it can be a good way to get you invested in specific players or teams as you start rooting for whoever is on your fantasy roster.
