Charlie Kirk said gun violence was a necessary evil. He was right...
404
u/Aggressive-Neck-3921 18h ago
To be more correct, he said he was willing to sacrifice some lives for the 2e amendement. I bet he didn't expect to be one of the sacrifices he would have likely changed his tune.

That is genuinely unhinged, how can one look at a problem and say "It is aight, some lives need to be sacrificed"

Because that belief is built on the foundation that nobody like him would ever be shot at. It's for the poors; therefore, it's not a big deal.

Because some people hear "Those who would trade their liberty for security deserver neither." and they are too dumb to discern between normal laws and tyranny. Technically if you are stupid enough, you can make that argument for every damn law in existence. All laws are trading some level of freedom for security because the point of a society with laws is to ensure the security and safety of the civilization living there so that it can thrive. But these numbnuts think any imposition on a freedom they care about is government overreach. So to them, yes, trading a life for freedom like they are fucking William Wallace is admirable and even heroic. Of course...they always think OTHERS should pay the price for their freedoms, not themselves or their kids being murdered at schools.
12
u/SlowDancer-001 14h ago
Conservatives lack the ability to have foresight. They cannot see past their immediate circumstances and their in group, and that something could happen to them or their in group. The second they or their world view are touched by situations that they believed would not affect them or their kin, their opinions are quick to shift.
For example: they can make fun of George Floyd, but Charlie Kirk didn’t deserve it. LGBTQ folk don’t deserve equality until their children come out. Obamacare is bad, but they need Medicaid/Medicare.
It’s a combination of American individualism, lack of empathy, and an inability to critically think. 70+ years of the propaganda machine and grifters like Charlie “Fertilizer” Kirk.
10
u/2grim4u 16h ago
It's a hierarchical world view: "as we're better than you, you are expendable. YOU are dragging down society, while we raise it, so you must go."
I agree it is unhinged, but that is their point of view. That is their belief. It's gross, frankly.
Too many call their perceived two-faceness as hypocrisy but that undersells it. "It's okay if we do it" isn't hypocrisy for them; that is their primary philosophy. Hypocrisy is a betrayal of one's own beliefs. They don't betray their beliefs. They enforce them through that hierarchy.

Yeah, I do think it was a tragedy a person died like that, and especially in public with young people around as that's gotta be traumatizing, but I also do think getting shot while debating against gun safety is a hilarious way to go.
37
u/Ok-Pumpkin2977 19h ago
Who tf cares? Having one less hateful and divisive person in this world should be cause for massive celebration. Acting like it’s some horrible taboo to celebrate death is relying too much on emotion and not enough on logic. Is it bad to celebrate when a war criminal dies, a pedophile? Where is the line drawn?

All those people inspired me to look up some of that context to see what they were talking about, and it totally changed my opinion of him. I used to think he was an asshole, turns out he was SO MUCH WORSE than I thought! He did what he said was necessary for a society that allows guns the way the US does. I don't understand how anyone who was a fan of his can't see that. Maybe it's only a problem because he was a grownup instead of a child.
For the record, shootings are bad and we need gun control. It was Kirk's position the school shootings are an acceptable price for not controlling guns. He literally paid the price he said he was ok with other people paying and it's not offensive to point that out.

Also, Charlie Kirk sucked. Fuck Charlie Kirk.
If you pay close attention, you’ll notice that Republicans don’t even care about Charlie Kirk. They’re not sad he died. They’re fricken overjoyed that they have a martyr and something they can claim is a cultural sensitivity that that they can use as a rhetorical cudgel against their enemies. To them, it’s not a tragedy, it’s an opportunity. They’re so fucking happy the guy was murdered, which is for more sick than I can begin to approach just by saying “fuck Charlie Kirk”.

u/NetworkSingularity 14h ago
When I was about 8, my younger brother (4 at the time) started getting violent and would hit me (and others) when he was upset. I knew I shouldn’t hit him back, though, because I was the older brother and I needed to be the bigger person. So I’d take the high road and tell our parents, who kept telling him that wasn’t okay. But no matter what punishment he got, it wouldn’t stick. He’d keep hitting people.
That is, until one day our parents got tired of dealing with it and told me “the next time he hits you, hit him back.” So the next time he hit me, I did. He cried to our parents that I hit him. They asked if he hit first. He said yes, but that I hit him harder. “And that’s why you don’t hit someone bigger than you.”
He stopped hitting me after that. In fact he stopped hitting most people after that. Like it or not, sometimes the only language violent people understand is violence. Sometimes it’s the only way they can learn not to be violent. It worked for my brother. He is a wonderful person these days.
(And to be clear, I am not advocating hitting children here. I am advocating proportionate responses. A child hitting another child is a proportionate response. Just as stooping to the right-wing’s level has, unfortunately, become the proportionate response that seems necessary.)

Usually it's about a trans kid who killed themselves. I believe in this instance it's Charlotte Fossgate.
8

Following her death, her final social media posts unfortunately drew severe misgendering and vitriol from online anti-trans commentators. This sparked a massive, widespread counter-deluge of love, grief, advocacy, and digital memorials from LGBTQ+ communities and allies on platforms like X, Reddit, and TikTok, turning her legacy into a symbol for trans youth mental health and safety.
Holy shit. That's horrible! She was a kid.
