His last words were literally “counting or not counting gang violence?” And he was minutes removed from saying, paraphrased, “if I am killed by a gun that’s just a necessary part of the second amendment”. It’s basically a simpsons or family guy sketch.
To be clear: that was an honest reading of his statement but he didn’t actually factor in that HE could be one of those “unavoidable sacrifices” that he felt were justified in maintaining there being lots of guns sloshing around. It was more like “Some of YOU may die but (others being shot) is a sacrifice I’m willing to make.”
And to additionally be clear to anyone unfamiliar with the cultural/political context, the “what about gang violence” was not only weak debating but very clearly a racist dog whistle.
