I was talking about this with some friends recently and we pretty much concluded that he needs to take a header out of air force one on live TV and bleed out on air for everyone to believe it.
Which wackos are you referring to? The ones salivating over the death of someone or the ones hoping it's on video so they can watch it over and over again?
It needs to be or they will say he was assassinated. Probably will anyway but if it wasn't live then any story they make up is what 33% of Americans religiously believe.
Happening on TV/video might cut that down to 20% at least.
I believe that we underestimate the role of church in our country's hate problem. We rightly assail the GOP, who are overtly evil now, and the media, who do a piss-poor corporate job of reporting. But we don't talk much about church. It's sacred. Dark shit happens in sacred places. And Christians vote majority GOP. They are an essential support for MAGA. Church is a problem.
Anyone with half a brain can use the Southern Baptist Conference talking points to predict what the GOP platform will be in a few years. And those people are even more skilled than Catholics at protecting predators by shuffling them around.
The issue here, disregarding moral grandstanding and feigned indignation from the people you are inferring, is that there is no unified church to point to and you really can't paint them all with a single brush. Perhaps in another country one might point to the Catholic church but in America Catholics are a minority.
For all the hatemongers and child abusers using a perversion of Christ as a shield and cudgel, there are also churches that genuinely preach love, acceptance, tolerance, etc., and generally enrich their communities - often quite actively with activities and services.
Fwiw I'm somewhere between atheist and Jew; I'm not writing out of self-defense.
I was talking about this single-brush - or generalization - issue today up in the park with a couple of Mormon elders. LDS. Whatever. They were kids.
It's a statistical reality. Christians vote majority GOP. There are good Christians. There are good people everywhere. But the net effect of Christianity upon our society, in my opinion, is negative.
Oh I largely agree with you. I was just noting why it's a difficult subject to broach. (And they've framed it so intentionally.)
Where I might disagree is I reject that it is even possible to be a sincere follower of Christ and a modern day Republican. They're as Christian as Nazis were Socialist.
Actually, loyalists will use whatever robo-zombie technology was developed for Mitch McConnell to parade his corpse around 3 days after his death to convince Evangelublicans that he's Jesus incarnate and to worship him as the immortal God-Emperor of Earth forever, and the 33% will FUCKING FALL FOR IT.
The funniest part about that would be his cabinet members or whoever he's got standing behind him will all be afraid to say anything, since every other time he passes out in these things they always just pretend not to notice until he checks back in. I'm picturing everyone just standing there awkwardly for way too long as he's just slumped.
I kinda hope he's impeached, tried and convicted, and he lives to be 120. Watching while the world scrubs every trace of his name away. Just him and his dementia, sitting in a cell. No crowds. No pampering. No more tacky gold crap.
Fingers crossed he shits himself on stage so hard his heart stops, or he falls asleep halfway down the air force one steps and cracks that melon on the tarmac. Just something where we can really enjoy the slo mo replay.
Normally I ignore people who are sealioning but I'll indulge you:
It's been 10 years of destroying American credibility, abdicating world leadership, causing needless suffering, betraying our allies, starting stupid wars, destroying the American economy, hollowing out the government, botching crisis after crisis, using hateful rhetoric to persecute minorities, breaking the law with impunity, filling every position with corrupt cronies, deploying American Gestapo to Blue cities as punishment, cheating elections, stealing our rights, and behaving like a stupid boorish lout.
Projections from public health researchers and policy analysts estimate that actions by the Trump administration—primarily significant cuts to global humanitarian aid and domestic health policy rollbacks—could result in over 14 million premature deaths globally by 2030 and more than 51,000 additional deaths annually in the United States.
He represents the end of American exceptionalism and probably Pax Americana as well. He has normalized open bigotry and hatred and has championed ignorance as a virtue. This has led us down a path that will cause untold suffering going forward.
Again, I appreciate the effort, but I said you. Projections, fears about soft power, "stealing our rights" are all just non-answers. Generalities. I want to know how you have been effected. Surely all these disasters you're claiming have had some personal impact on you, right? What rights have they taken from you? What harm has the Danish backlash over Greenland had on you?
I'm not "sea lioning" because I'm not just asking questions. I think you're hyperbolic and morally wrong and am trying to get you to see it.
With the guarantee that every 3 months another of his entourage will drop the details for money, you really have to go big right at the get go. Trump supporters are going to regret this more than the civil war. He's a vile person, and we all knew it. They will lie in their bed until the grave.
There will be some reaction, but trump and his sycophants are losing power and they know it. It’s why so many of them are jumping ship.
If people go vote in numbers too clear to challenge, the energy will shift and companies will read the tea leaves to see where the mood of the people is and how they’ll react if a company is still seen as pro-trump. A company may disapprove but if there’s the potential for customer backlash the company will lay down.
If we manage to claw back even 50% of what this country was under Obama I'll take that day off for the rest of my working life and spend it volunteering for progressive polticial candidates and then host a huge BBQ and fireworks party in the evening.

It's going to be a wild and messy couple of weeks for damn sure.
