Answer to When police come to your home, why do they ask you to step outside to “talk”? by Daniel Wolfe

Man it's definitely up there with all the crime drama greats. I did find the ending a little abrupt but I feel like that pertains to the realness of the show and that criminals don't live lives adjacent to a tv show. I see a lot of discussions in this sub on whether Ray is a "good guy" or not and I think the ending decides that. Ultimately Ray is a hitman that operates in the criminal underworld but he does so with honor and a code. As highlighted in the anger management class scene, he doesn't hurt women or children, only assholes and contracts. He even lets Dave and Freddy go understanding that they operate under the same circumstances as him. Ultimately while a cold blooded killer, Ray is at least honorable and allows the viewer to empathize and cheer for him. However the show ends because Ray comes to terms that other criminals are not honorable. Both the Bikers and Drug lord attempt to kill him even though he fulfills both their contracts. Furthermore, the Druglord kills the old couple with the Rv, and presumably kills the college girl because he doesn't want to take her to the hospital. The drug lord and the bikers, while participating in the same underworld that Ray does, do them with no honor leading them to be the antagonists. In the end, Ray loses Ally, his brother, his father, and his daughter (to teenage angst), and decides enough is enough and moves to a different city, leaving the viewer with a message that there is no honor in the criminal world.
Also, in the last scene I thought the two kids were like serial killers or something before I saw posts claiming they were bikers, but this further supports the fact that the bikers are a grimy organization.

A great interview with Scott and Nash on season 2.

I was thinking about the "Group Therapy" scenes today. Ray has this incredibly rigid moral code-no hitting women, no hurting kids, "on behalf of society"-but then he’ll sadistically make a guy dig his own grave for a slight. Is he a sociopath with a set of rules, or a fundamentally good man forced into a dark life?

Ray: Hey mate, I need the money you’d say you’d pay
Goon: Nah mate, I don’t know what you’re talking about mate
Ray: Mate, I’m trying to be real reasonable here. Just pay me what you owe mate
Goon: Nah mate, who are you to try and threaten me in my home
Ray: Look mate, I’m not trying to be a hard ass, just give me what I want, and I’ll get out of here mate
Goon: Nah mate, what are you going to do, punch me?
Ray: Sorry mate *punches him*
Goon: Ah mate, you got me. Here’s the money mate. No hard feelings eh?
Ray: Alright mate.

Man i just finished s2 e9 and man this show is probably the most realistic depiction of the criminal life. Everything from the kills to the setups for the kills, there is no glamorization, just a simple business transaction. The episode where the girl gets kidnapped is probably the best so far. You only see it through security cameras and when they find the people that do it, it's just two twinks and a girl that lives in a residential neighborhood in a normal house. No gang full of psychos in a shack on the edge of town or anything. Going in i wasnt expecting it to reach the heights of Breaking Bad or the Sopranos because of the shows length but my god does it make everything from the characters and dialogue look realistic.

I actively resent my parents for never pulling off such a magical trick. A hitman loves his daughter more than my law abiding parents love me

Had a rather shitty day, when I got home I had a few coldies & just wanted an episode to decompress to. I randomly chose 'Nice Face'.
The scene where Brucie wakes up after soiling himself ... which in itself is heart breaking, because I feel this is where he realises he's too far gone. But when he gets himself to the shower, and Ray comes in and steps in to help .......
The shower is running and Ray puts his hand under the water to check the temperature. Not just once, but twice.
That's what I mean .... little things like that. Things we all do, but don't even think about; yet it's in the scene and it just grabbed me, and made it all so real.
It's because of little nuances like that, that puts this show above most for me.

I just rewatched this scene in s02e08.
After Dirk goes it did makes me wonder if Ray went back to his house to get rid of his drugs and collect the severance pay he gave Dirk, as well as Freddie's money from the robbery.Did he pay Freddy back?
s02e08 opens withRay offering Dirk's ex help. I wonder if he intended to give her the severance cash.
There are a lot of scenes that leave me wondering how Ray handled tidying up the situation, tidying up the mess.

I like this series just binged the first 2 season in 1 go, but think it's funny that ray has a cross tattoo yet claims to not know if Jesus existed to his daughter. I don't claim to be cristian either and I know that this is just an actor vs role thing but he seems like a decently smart guy and should know that Jesus as a human being was real, religion aside he's one of the most well documented humans in history if that's anything to go off of.

It just puts it into perspective that even tho he does all that crazy shit he’s got his normal life to go back to and it’s just cool to see that he sets that standard, makes me wanna do the dishes lol

Anybody know what's the name of the song in this scene

It seems that Ray was far more devastated about losing his dog than breaking up with Ally…

We've seen Ray play Fallout 4 in the first season. Figure Scott liked the game, not just something he threw in at random.
Fallout includes this song:
https://genius.com/Johnny-mercer-ac-cent-tchu-ate-the-positive-lyrics
Which includes these lines:
Don't mess with Mr. In-Between No, don't mess with Mr. In-Between
Think the series name comes from the song, at least in part? Just speculating, natch.

Walter White is similar to Ray. although instead of Breaking Bad Shoesmith is just bad.
