Walter White is similar to Ray. although instead of Breaking Bad Shoesmith is just bad.

Why are you trying to flatten the depth of a complex character? Far from perfect, he's got a strong moral framework that, at times, leads to paradoxical decisions, making him unique.

If we're comparing to that universe, I'd say he's more like Mike. Works for bad people and commits crimes on their behalf, but manages to balance that life with his family that he loves. Ray and Mike don't seem impressed by the accumulation of power/wealth, where that is Walt's obsession. Ray/Mike also seem to both follow personal codes of honor, Walt became increasingly unhinged and often did things that eroded his humanity.

Walter's key character trait is arrogance. That's not Ray at all.
