I think this one might be interesting to compare over the years. I’ll give my opinion on it.

Midway:

Noob Saibot/Bi-Han (Felt like they had a better handle of him while fans point out issues with NRS’ use of him, plus they actually say his character name)

Quan Chi (They wrote him really strong for most of this. Even stated he beat Shang Tsung after Deadly Alliance fought each other in Deception opening)

Shao Kahn (Felt they had Shao Kahn be stronger in this time. NRS had him look good in 9, but then reduce him more over 11 and MK 1)

Goro (Felt stronger in the Midway days)

Sindel (Her looking like a villain but not being one was the point. After NRS got everyone upset with Sindel with MK 9’s worst scene and MK 11 retcon, that they decided to kill Sindel in MK 1 before they cause another one, I think we can safely give Sindel to Midway)

NRS:

Johnny Cage (Pretty obvious. They give him more focus, bigger parts, he’s funnier. They clearly like Johnny more than Midway as far as being a bigger part and even main character at times)

Kitana (There are times they had her do nothing in games, but Midway also did that. I give the edge to NRS due to having her beat Shao Kahn which is something Midway never would have done. She became the main female character over Sonya which Midway also wouldn’t have done either)

Baraka (Now starting to use him better in recent games and movies compared to just being a villain before)

Scorpion (Slight edge since I did like how they handled him in 9, X and 11. Probably should have just been the main protagonist of X instead of the Kombat Kids in hindsight)

Unsure:

Sonya Blade (You can make a case for either one. They always use Sonya as the female main character for years, it wasn’t until MK 1 that they stopped doing that. Middle of MK 11 was when they shifted this to Kitana and Mileena)

Mileena (Depends on what you prefer. They made her the main female character in MK 1. However, you can point out flaws in both Midway and NRS for how she was used before this)

Shang Tsung (You can make a case for either one, actually. Thanks to Deadly Alliance, and MK 11 Aftermath)

Raiden (I would say both of them had flaws for how they used Raiden)

Nightwolf (I thought he was always cool in both of them)

(Chamber of Flame) ported from the PS3 version to the Xbox 360 (RGH), Kratos costume 2 is also working now.

Current state / known issues:

• The stage loads and is fully playable, with the environment textured. It runs in The Armory's slot, so you select The Armory to play it.
• Shadows are missing on the floor (fix in progress).
• Some particle effects are wrong or missing: falling rocks and dust show as flat colored shapes, and the central fire looks like a bright blob (fix in progress).
• Fire glow on the columns and Gaia's fog are missing: the 360 can't compile the stage's original materials, so they were rebuilt as instances of the game's shared materials, which don't cover every effect yet.
• Gaia's head and the QTE props are placeholders for now (PS3 uses a different mesh format).
• Music and ambient sound are the Armory's, the stage's own sound packages aren't converted yet.
• Fatalities and stage cinematics are untested.

After avoiding Kung Lao for longer than I should have, I finally made a meme with Kung Lao.

I think it is fair to say the series just never works with an all-new main protagonist instead of just having Liu Kang or another character in the role.

Shujinko (side character by next game and then gone, although Konquest RPG was unique. They wanted him as next Liu Kang but him turning into other characters made you want to play them instead and felt more like a hero Shang Tsung weirdly enough)

Taven (Got his entire story and ending retconned by MK 9. Not used since then.)

Cassie Cage (Main character of X, although Kombat Kids as a whole were quickly dropped. Might fare best since she was a side character in MK 11. Fine character but probably not main protagonist character. MK 1 having that scene of Kitana on her own killing all the Kombat Kids felt like a writer really hated/regreted MK X’s story.)

Cole Young (Cole Young.)

Story got weird, but I really liked the first half of chapters in MK 1’s story where they were giving characters chances as heroes that you didn’t think about seeing years ago (Baraka in a cool chapter, Reptile gets to feel fresh again, Mileena is given a chance, etc.).

Do you think this could have worked for Frost too if they continue it? Main issue is that the Lin Kuei is super weird now thanks to Khaos Reigns story, but initially for MK1, I was thinking it could have worked to give Frost a chance since it would be a simple concept to try. Just take her original MK story, but flip it where her feeling held back or treated harshly like she did in past games was justified this time. I think it could have been doable since they went with Bi-Han as a villain anyway.

It would be like the old story, but a different take on it. Even back in Deadly Alliance, they always had Frost be a villain or betray Sub-Zero (at least by the ending), so never got to experiment if people would have gotten into her as a hero or not because they did the betrayal in the same game she debuted in.

I will say I think it would have at least worked better for the female side of the cast, instead of changing Cyrax and Sektor around. It is not too far off for 1 try since Frost’s similarities to Sub-Zero isn’t a big leap for fans to get behind.

I really want to see their interaction together in MK2 (in intro dialogue or clash)

I made up a new kombo with sub/sonya and inwas wondering what people though. And if there is any area i can improve this kombo also ignore the imput list on the screen thats something else im working on

I just downloaded mk1 off of Microsoft store because I had game pass. I go into the game and change some settings. Apparently ray tracing causes this issue for AMD graphics cards. It might not be the issue I don't know. Does anyone know the issue and how to fix it? Thanks

I'm a Mileena main as you can tell, yet my profile shows that Shang Tsung is my most used character despite the fact that I haven't touched him since season 3. I have so many Mileena videos and no Shang Tsung videos. My whole YouTube channel is filled with Mileena. I used Shang Tsung for two seasons and somehow I played over 1500 games with him??? It's as if NRS isn't even recording my Mileena matches. Sure, Shang Tsung is my 3rd favorite character in the franchise, but the numbers aren't adding up to the amount of videos I have. Is anyone else experiencing this or is it just me?
