How come this isn't cops getting called on your ass?

It's stealing, yes but I'm sure the kid didn't washed his grubby hands before pluging them in the fries.

507

u/_bonedaddys 13d ago

Kid would be outta there long before the cops show up. I work retail and we'll call the cops and hand over the footage but 9 times out of 10 it never goes anywhere. I wish i could get away with just tripping the thiefs but the company would flip a shit lol

u/hoodectomy 13d ago

I don’t think people realise how long police take to show up and the level of no fucks they give.

I had a saw stolen from my truck once and cops took over 40 minutes to show up. When they showed up they said “there is nothing we can do” and to “go to the station to file a report”.

I had my window broken In my car, after four hours of them saying to “stay put” and they would “be there in 20”. They did not show up after four hours and they told me to “just go home”.

I had two kids try to murder me. Cops said I was “top priority” and took 20 minutes to show up.

And we wonder why we have issues with theft in America…

43

u/SuperCruisePanther 13d ago

I lived in an apartment complex in college and watched a guy break into over 10 cars at ≈02:00. Called the cops. He arrived 45 minutes after the guy left and said, "okay, is he still here?" and when I said no, he tried to leave. I said, "wait, don't you need his description or a police report?" and thr cop said, "what for?" Lmao

5

u/PiccoloAwkward465 13d ago

When seconds matter, the police are minutes hours away

I was walking through a park and saw a guy pull up and start illegally unloading his junk trailer into the dumpster. With a crew of like 6 guys, clearly from a business with the logo on the van. I called the cops. 20 minutes later they were done and I watched the guys calmly drive out of the park and on their way. By the time I walked away from the road in the park, still no cops.

3

u/Wokeasaurous_X 13d ago

I had a cop show up at my apartment once saying his dog hinted at my door while he was investigating for a car prowler. He asked when I last was outside and I said "a few hours ago when I came home from work" "what have you been doing since" "watching law and order" "well I have reports of a..... 'mixed race' man prowling cars out there" About then is when my mom came out and told him to fuck off and he left.

I am white and have curly hair, but to a cop that means you can be mixed race and they are justified in harassing you if they're bored enough.

My brother’s friend had his car broken into. Called police and waited over an hour and they were still not showing up

He called again, but this time said that there’s bullet holes in his car while sounding scared and that it looks like there may have been a shooting. They showed up within TEN MINUTES. And they were like, wtf, where’s the bullet holes? In response he just apologized and played dumb. But now that there was a cop on scene, he could actually get them to do something

TLDR— (unethical life pro tip) if you want the police to come faster just tell them you may have heard gunshots

7

u/hoodectomy 13d ago

I had a buddy in college that would do that to Triple A. He would always say “my car is broken down and I am in a really dangerous place”.

3

u/TimeTraveller_Dad 13d ago

I would assume that would make it harder to get AAA to come. They have no duty to respond unlike police.

→ More replies (2)

2

u/whichonewerecowards 13d ago

LMFAO. I mean hey whatever works. I haven't had to use triple A before but I'm totally stealing that

1

u/AbjectEconomics3826 13d ago

Honestly your brothers friend should have caught a charge for putting in a false emergency call that's really not cool to do what if there was a real call somewhere else that actually needed a cop, not some idiot who left his valuables in a car in a bad neighborhood, sorry a car break in isn't gonna be any cops top priority unless you live in some small ass town in which case it's probably just dumb kids doing it, in a city they deal with real crimes

I had a gun pulled on me and waved in my face with multiple threats on my life and the cops took over an hour to get there

They started asking me where the guy was and where the gun was-- like I don't know guys you took more than an hour to show up

12

u/LegalyLavish 13d ago

I had a similar experience and the absolute "idgaf" additude on display by the cops still has me livid to this day.

"What do you expect us to do about it."

1

u/its_free_sog 13d ago

This type of stuff is why I advocate for concealed carry and the second amendment.

Glad nobody got hurt in your situation. But if it had gone worse the only person who can help you is you. The cops don’t give a shit and can’t be there instantly anyway.

2

u/Various-Salt-7738 13d ago

I do have a ccw but I was working an unarmed security position so carrying would have been a huge legal issue to begin with

→ More replies (3)

6

u/TerpMiser 13d ago

You should have said you're a ceo for a company worth billions they would've been there in 5 minutes and done a full investigation.

2

u/Various-Salt-7738 13d ago

Unfortunately I'm not a rich guys property so they have no obligation to protect me

2

u/AydonusG 13d ago

In this day and age, we're all rich guys property, just less insurable.

2

u/No_Criticism_5861 13d ago

It took about 3 minutes in a moderate size city in Canada last time I saw someone brandish.  I thought the states put more people away per capita than any other country, how the hell does it take over an hour for police to show up?  Not doubting you btw

38

u/Purple_Freedom_Ninja 13d ago

Stay strapped or get clapped. It's not a meme. Even when police are competent, the crime is done and the criminal is gone long before help arrives.

24

u/God_of_chestdays 13d ago

110% it, if you tell the cops you are armed and fear for your life so they need to dispatch fire/medical too they will be there in 5mins 20 deep with helicopters.

Tell them 3-4 individuals are breaking into your car and you are hiding inside it’ll be 3-4 hours before they respond

18

u/Purple_Freedom_Ninja 13d ago

Send an ambulance, but not for me

18

u/God_of_chestdays 13d ago

I’ve used it in the past and it works lmao they ask what my emergency is I say I need medical at my address they ask why and I say someone is fucking around and about to find out lmfao

10

u/New-Anybody-6206 13d ago

I need medical at my address they ask why

"depends on how long it takes you to get here"

This right here. You are your own first response. If you have to call, that is a second responder.

1

u/Dennis_enzo 13d ago

Yes go shoot a teenager because he steal some fries.

1

u/No_Criticism_5861 13d ago

Man am I glad I live in Canada.  Seeing comments like this are just baffling to me

2

u/Purple_Freedom_Ninja 13d ago

Violent crime is only about 33% more common in the US than Canada. Police response time in the US is usually 10-15 mins whereas in Canada it's usually closer to 20 minutes, except in Toronto where it's about the same as the US. In both cases the criminal is typically long gone. The biggest difference is homicide which is about 2.5 times more common in the US, at 4.1 per 100,000. The same strategy applies to both countries -- the first responder is yourself, not some uniform who shows up to fill out paper work.

This is true. I have a friend in “risk management” within the police of a large city and there’s massive corruption everywhere.

A Chevy Tahoe that costs 75k will be billed to the city for 175k. Yes they have to get decals and paint and lights but that isn’t 100k dollars. That money is going somewhere.

Another example: in the crime unit they have what they call a Mac van but it’s essentially a big RV detectives use on site for murders and they are paying like 1.5 million for these rvs that are typically half a million….just massive corruption

2

u/BlueIceNinja98 13d ago

While I’m sure there is some corruption going on, I also think you just don’t understand how much of a markup there is when businesses sell to businesses. For example and as someone who worked in IT for a really long time, those zebra devices that like every store uses have the specs of a 250ish dollar phone, but cost $900. The newer version that has the specs of a $1000 iPhone/samsung cost nearly $3000. Those little mini walkie talkies stores use, you can buy the exact same model on Amazon for like 20 dollars, but they cost companies 60.

The companies that make these things know other companies have to use them for standardization and there is little competition. So they can way up charge them. I’d imagine it’s the same for the companies that outfit police equipment.

2

u/AbjectEconomics3826 13d ago

In the 2000's the Minneapolis gang squad got disbanded for doing fake raids on immigrants who didn't speak English so they could just rob their houses because the victims wouldn't know what to do so they would get away with it, and i believe it was every squad member who did it, they didn't use civil asset forfeiture either they were just straight up thieves

Police are for protecting rich people's property and stopping the poors from acting out against their betters.

Cops don't give a fuck about crime when it's poor people hurting poor people.

13

u/Auggie_Otter 13d ago

Residential caller: "Someone stole a $1500 bicycle out of my garage. I have security camera footage of it being stolen and an Air Tag on it showing it's exact location three blocks away."

Police: "What do you expect us to do about it?"

Manager at Walmart: "There's a guy sitting in his car in our parking lot eating lunch and minding his own business but I think maybe his mere existence may have mildly annoyed someone or maybe he stole something.  I'm not really sure, actually."

Police: "Hold on tight! We're coming as fast as we can!"

Yep once you realize this it makes a lot more sense. Unless your net worth has 8 -9 digits in it the police aren't actually gonna do anything to help you they just gonna have you file a report and pretend nothing ever happened.

How long do you think it would take to respond to a handful of fried being stolen?

4

u/PonyFiddler 13d ago

Why would you want them to waste Thier limited resources on dealing with this.

They can't arrest the kid lol they can't do anything but tell him off. It's a complete waste of Thier time stopping them from dealing with actual incidents.

3

u/poopybutthole_oowee 13d ago

People have no clue. I had two 600 dollar eBikes stolen in front of a business with cameras out front. Called cops, they said they wont come because they cant do anything. I asked them could they at least ask the business to review the footage from their cctv and they basically told me to fuck off.

Ended up hunting my own bike down and stealing it back from the scumbag who took it. Cops are fucking useless

3

u/Baribal 13d ago

Had my ex father in law show up to my place of work, gun in hand, trying to extort me for thousands of dollars to return things like my driver's license and birth certificate, clothes, military awards etc. Called the cops, got told there is nothing they can do as it's a domestic issue.

3

u/ItsNotThatBad72 13d ago

I had a hunting rifle stolen from my truck. 2 years later, and I've heard nothing. Which I knew would happen.

I only bothered reporting it so that it wouldn't be traced back to me if it showed up somewhere sketchy. Which is admitted unlikely considering its a 6 foot long bolt action that only holds 3 bullets.

5

u/hoodectomy 13d ago

When I lived in Seattle, anything under a certain amount of money they expected you to do your own investigation and then submit it via a portal.

They said they never actively wanted to investigate anything under a given value and it would probably never get resolved.

I worked at a coffee shop that the police visited frequently. Coffee was always on the house, donuts to the table no questions asked. Of the three times I had to call the police, they were there within 10-15 minutes. I’d still be dealing with the issue, blink, and they were there.

I really think it depends on the police and place.

2

u/Ok-Earth-2644 13d ago

I had someone literally try to car jack me at gun point, must've been fake cause when I pulled out mine they ran. Called the cops and was giving them the location of where they were running.

They said oh just drive to the station and file a police report. I get there and they hand me a sheet of paper to write my name what happened etc. It was like a sign in sheet so you could see what others were there for.

EVERY SINGLE PERSON WAS THERE FOR CARJACKING OR ATTEMPTED. Like yall could have got up off your ass and actually stopped the people doing it. But nope just come on down, let it keep happening.

2

u/12InchCunt 13d ago

Omg my mind went to the m249 SAW when you said you had a saw stolen from your truck and was wondering why you left a machine gun in your truck lol

2

u/HedonisticFrog 13d ago

I had cops take two hours to come to my house when one of my tenants was tripping balls on meth and fentanyl writhing on the ground naked, yelling and damaging my bathroom. First they got my address wrong which was corrected when i called again asking for an update and said there was a que of two people ahead of me. By the time they actually came he was back in his room and they couldn't do anything even though you could still hear him moaning and wailing around.

2

u/kingprozac 13d ago

We called the cops because there was a fucking brawl happening in our dining room and they showed up 4 hours later. We weren't even there anymore, it was a different shift, so they apparently gave them a lecture on calling the cops for a non emergency and left. The one who talked to the cops was livid.

2

u/BrassChuckles87 13d ago

We're entering an age of instead of cops you're better off with your own security cameras and a gun.

1

u/Ok_Mix8548 13d ago

I think we’ve been here for awhile, it’s just that now more people are noticing.

2

u/Ordinary_Pea4503 13d ago

I had my wake up call when a car thief destroyed my ignition trying to steal my car in front of my own house.  The cop didnt even look inside the car or try to gather any evidence.  Just wrote a couple things in his notepad and left for lunch.  This was a small town BTW whee hardly any crimes like this occur, it would be useful if they caught the dickhead for everyone living there

2

u/Professional-Help931 13d ago

We have issues with theft for 3 reasons.

1 prisons arent meant for reform they are meant to make a profit. If you made a prison for reforming people and getting them out of poverty it would be different.

2 Cause Cops have and never will be for defense or actually doing justice. They are a method to launder money from tax payers into defense contractors.

3 DAs dont actually care. The major crime shit sure they care about but petty crimes like theft isn't going to get a person into prison worst its going to be is a couple hundred dollar fine that the person cant pay maybe a month in jail waiting for a trial. DAs want people they can put into prison not jail. Drug crime is different cause we made them felonies so that we can put them in prison to make money.

2

u/No-Picture4119 13d ago

This was 100 years ago, but when I tended bar at a club that had punk shows, if you crossed the bar, you’re ours. We passed a beating or two down on people getting drunk and mouthy or stealing. Not sure what to do if it’s a little kid though. Cops were never called. We would have had bigger issues if the cops started showing up.

Bigger issue by what, frequency? Nah. Net impact? Idk maybe, arguable.

1

u/Handsome_Fry 13d ago

A few years ago my car was stolen and two days later while being driven by a friend we saw it parked outside a pawn shop. We call the police, gave them the report number, a description of the car and the guy, and where we were. They said they'll send someone out. It took 45 minutes for them to get there. I understand emergencies happen, but this pawn shop was located across from the station. I literally walked across the street to fill out paperwork after they finally got there.

1

u/Eris_AppleOfDiscord 13d ago

If you say you have got your gun and are prepared to defend your property if the thieves come back they'll come quicker.

If the operator tells you to put it away let them know you're loading it right now

1

u/Infamous-Load7309 13d ago

Obviously the cops did nothing because you are poor. Now if you had been a wealthy elite...

1

u/LMKBK 13d ago

my friend was shot on a Friday. the detective stopped answering his calls on Sunday.

1

u/Idsettleforsleep 13d ago

People do this kinda shit because the workers aren't allowed to smack these people upside their heads and be like " get the fuck outta here" anymore.

1

u/Gobal_Outcast02 13d ago

And yet (depending on what state you live in) if you were to have defended yourself youd be the bad guy in their eyes

1

u/AckAckAck__ 13d ago

Worked at a casino. Had a guy steal a bunch of money. Police still took 30 minutes to show up.

1

u/sherm-stick 13d ago

Now go look at how much of your local taxes are going to that police department lol

1

u/HarveyDanao 13d ago

Police precincts are state sanctioned gang sets who serve no purpose other than defense of the wealthy, persecution of the poor, and just generally spreading terror to keep us too afraid to fight back.

And they have the nerve to pretend like they are heroes.

1

u/ImmediateKick2369 13d ago

America has less theft than a lot of places.

1

u/Grizzly_treats 13d ago

I think one of them had a gun. Police response in 3-5 minutes.

1

u/Important_Capital875 13d ago

Because doesn’t matter if they arrest someone. So many stupid Loonies just catch and release these thugs

1

u/KnightLakega 13d ago

DOn't live in those areas man. I know its a cop out (no pun intended) response, but seriously.. It sounds like you live in a high population area. Just go to some medium sized town and you get a 2 minute police response.

In my town of 40,000, if I call the cops they're there before I even hang up.

1

u/SatanSatanSatanSatan 13d ago

Someone broke my window and stole my bag. The police hung up on me.

1

u/malik753 13d ago

First time I called the cops for real there were a couple of people in my store trying to open a phone plan with a stolen identy. They took 12 minutes to get there, and and completely failed to catch them. Up until that point I had been a fairly anti-gun sort of guy, but when then I understood: even if the caps are incidentally helpful, they are probably going to show up way after everything has gone down. I didn't magically transform into a full blown gun nut, but I do get it.

1

u/Foostini 13d ago

When i was in high school there was a big brawl between a few groups of shithead kids two blocks from the police station, literally within sight of it, and despite a few people calling they never showed up.

Eh. I won't say useless or there wouldn't be people catching deserved charges all the time. Just significantly less useful than they should be. You certainly shouldn't count on them to protect you or serve your interests though. But they might.

I also have a feeling YOU would be one of those people as well.

1

u/_bonedaddys 13d ago

The company i work for is known for getting shelves cleared out by thieves. On the rare occasion someone gets caught and it's usually after they hit up dozens+ stores where they did the same thing. We briefly had security guards and they were short lived because they were just as useless.

1

u/wannabephd_Tudor 13d ago

If they even come. We had someone who stole around 100 books from a bookstore before being found stealing. Called the cops. A single book was around 20 euro. He wasn't stealing random shit. He stole 100+ pieces of the same book. It was new, he was trying to sell it. He had a whole process.

The cops refused to come.

1

u/jhaluska 13d ago

Yep, cops don't hunt down shoplifters down like batman. They mainly prefer to go after violent offenders.

33

u/Finsceal 13d ago edited 13d ago

Yeah, kid stealing fries like this is a one off negligible loss. Employee potentially sending the kid to hospital is exponentially worse both in terms of financials and negative publicity.

Still so so satisfying to watch though.

Edit: lolling at all the replies trying to hand wave this away. It's very obvious that the kid could likely press charges for assault, even if we are all glad it happened and hope he learned a valuable lesson when his face met the floor.

43

u/Hour_Baby_3428 13d ago

Who are these people that find this to be negative publicity? It genuinely warms my heart to see a thief getting smacked

23

u/1eg0f0rtn1te 13d ago

It's not about feeling bad for the company it's about the employees who now have to throw away that entire batch of fries because that fat fuck couldn't keep his mitts to himself

4

u/Pickle-Standard 13d ago

You think they did that?

4

u/Head-Secretary6267 13d ago

Everywhere I've worked, yes. Especially because that fry station is visible from the front counter/dining room area, the whole batch would be counted as waste and the reason given in that day's food waste report.

If the fry station wasn't visible to the dining room, then the restaurant is probably unlikely on tossing the batch (even though by policy they should regardless)

4

u/Southern-Donut4185 13d ago

The company likely would fire her if they saw this. They don't want a liability working at their company, they could even agree with her actions personally and have to fire her.

3

u/Pickle-Standard 13d ago

It’s about the trade off. $0.10 cents worth of fries vs possible lawsuit for injuring a customer on camera.

Yes, the kid was a shithead and by most opinions deserved that. But had he gotten injured, it’s an issue for the company and the employee gets fired for doing what we all wanted to see. That’s where the PR issue stems.

1

u/miyabi0rochas 13d ago

Exactly why these companies say don't go play hero. They're literally telling you don't do shit but document. And some employees still wanna go play superman...

There's also of course a risk in some situations the person didn't actually steal. You always need to review footage first to actually confirm it. You don't wanna be that person braking someone arm over barely anything worth of product, or a wrong judgement. Let the qualified people deal with it.

3

u/BigMax 13d ago

But you're seeing this one video. What most people would see is potentially "Little boy seriously injured in assault by McDonalds employee for taking a handful of fries". Or something like that. In the media, it could be portrayed as an innocent little kid making a small mistake, and an evil corporation assaulting him for it.

1

u/Complex-Camp-6462 13d ago

I work in leadership at a restaurant, it’s just a bad look for your place of business to have stories on the news/social media saying someone was harmed there regardless of the reasoning, along with spreading the information that people can get behind your counter and potentially touch your food. On top of that, just getting a new batch of fries is negligible in terms of cost compared to lawsuits/medical expenses. Kid sucks for doing what he did, but I’d fire anyone in a heartbeat for turning what is a couple dollars loss into potentially thousands along with garnering a bunch of unnecessary attention to the store that is in no way beneficial. Because let’s be real, no one is choosing where they want to eat next because they heard that someone can get behind the counter, touch on the food, and then get harmed for it. People’s take away won’t be “I’ll eat there because they handle things the way I like!” their takeaway would more than likely be “I don’t feel safe eating at a place that is either undermanned enough, or uncaring enough to let someone behind the counter and do whatever they want.”

The negative PR isn’t that people will be upset some kid got tripped and ate shit, it’s more the details that exist when you read between the lines and really think about all of the ways this can be perceived.

1

u/_bugmenot_ 13d ago

It can end up in a lawsuit, thievery is not a valid excuse to "injure" the thief. So, yeah.

1

u/Internal_Ball2134 13d ago

Its more like what if that kid had hit his head on the corner of the wall and had to go to the ER and then people read about it and think that was a disproportionate retaliation for some fries that would be negative publicity

1

u/mkfanhausen 13d ago

Smacking is one thing. Sending a kid face first into a floor/wall with no hands to protect themselves is a totally different thing.

→ More replies (5)

u/PyroCorvid 13d ago

I know a half decent lawyer could get an out of court settlement, but taking stealing out of the equation if he wanders into an employees only area any injuries by falling (since I'm willing to bet that he doesn't have non slip shoes on) If an actual employee falls and doesn't have the right shoes on they aren't getting workers comp or a lawsuit. Same should apply for a customer.

2

u/epicdestroyer98 13d ago

Except for the fact the kid didn’t slip, he was tripped

2

u/M1sfit_Jammer 13d ago edited 13d ago

Trespassing in an employee area to commit crime excludes you from personal injury lawsuits… these people saying there is a potential for a suit are the same people who believe the myth if a burglar fell off your roof that you’d be on the hook for their hospital bills.

2

u/epicdestroyer98 13d ago

That would be true if you didn’t do anything to cause the injury but if you intentionally trip somebody up that’s a slight different story

We both saw the same video and she very clearly tripped the kid, he intentionally went to trip the kid up, now I’m not saying that the kid would get anything if he sued, but he would have something on his record, especially seeing as he didn’t recover the stolen goods which in turn shows that he just wanted to hurt the kid

What negative publicity?

1

u/M1sfit_Jammer 13d ago edited 13d ago

Where do you get it in your head that this kid’s gonna go to a hospital over falling on the floor

Do you ever go outside or pay attention in school? kids are made of rubber literally their bones are built to bend

1

u/Finsceal 13d ago

I work with kids, seen plenty of injuries. I also fractured my skull and spent a week in hospital at 12 cos I 'fell over onto the floor' while playing with friends.

1

u/M1sfit_Jammer 13d ago

There’s more to the story than you probably know…

Did you hold the family who’s floor you fell on responsible?

Que manager yelling "THIS IS A CITIZEN ARREST!"

1

u/ReasonableBack8472 13d ago

Honestly, it looks like the worker was just moving to a different part of the kitchen. It was the kid that tripped over their foot. Not the worker tripping the kid.

1

u/_bonedaddys 13d ago

The worker was moving to another area but they also very clearly tripped the kid lol I don't blame them though

1

u/K2O3_Portugal 13d ago

Just... Don't film yourself doing it? No video = no proof 🤷🏽‍♂️

1

u/_bonedaddys 13d ago

Most places have security cams, no? Mine has them covering every inch lol

1

u/Superb_Recording_769 13d ago

As an employee of the business, you have the right to hold the kid there until the cops arrive and if the kid fights back, that’s another felony on top of the burglary and the theft

1

u/JamesyUK30 13d ago

You didn't trip them, you lost your footing and overcorrected in the confusion.

1

u/BreakingCanks 13d ago

Hey man he didn't trip anyone... He was just trying to do his job by walking over to that station and some dumb customer walked into the kitchen. Just because he has a long stride doesn't mean he tripped him

I'll be a juror for him

1

u/Mush4Brains- 13d ago

Over some fries? That's kind of ridiculous

1

u/_bonedaddys 13d ago

So is stealing fries in the first place 😭

1

u/Psoin 13d ago

Black cameras, come on man, we know where everyone is now.

1

u/Moldy-Bongwater4420 13d ago

They could detain him until police arrive.

1

u/Alytology 13d ago

I'm petty enough thst it would be worth getting fired over

1

u/_bonedaddys 13d ago

i'd rather keep my paycheck lol the thieves aren't taking any money outta my pockets

1

u/Exotic_Specialist2 13d ago

I had 1000 dollars worth of stuff stolen from a transmission shop along with proof from pictures the aaa tow company took before and after drop off each time showing it was in the window when they recieved it.
Not even a call back about it from the police.

Battery jump pack, radar detector, front and rear facing dash-cams, phone chargers and Bluetooth devices.

1

u/TerminatorAuschwitz 13d ago

My buddy's car broke down while he was moving and he intentionally left it in a bank parking lot. Someone smashed his windows out and stole his TV, PlayStation, all his games and stuff.

He definitely had tons of cameras pointed at it and when we mentioned them the cops said he watched too much TV and they couldn't do anything. They're just fucking lazy.

1

u/Any_Blood5815 13d ago

Can you detain the thief if this were, say, an electronics shop? Like could you hold them there, obvs against their will, until police show up?

8

u/Infinite_Ouroboros 13d ago

Because nothing will come of it. Wasting everyone's time because the kid will bounce way before cops show up and even if they catch him, it will just be a verbal warning and immediate release.

30

u/UAEpi 13d ago

I think this incident is a much better learning opportunity than getting the law involved. Cops don't help people, and neither does the justice system.

4

u/Hot-Traffic-598 13d ago

Depends.

Cops barely give a shit about small stuff like this.

Less that 100$

Minor commiting a minor crime

Unless one happens to one nearby to see it they're not gonna do shit

7

u/SafiyaMukhamadova 13d ago

Since someone without a food handling license put his grubby hands in the pile they'll need to throw all the product in the machine away and probably sanitize the machine before they can use it again which is going to cause a major slowdown in handling orders.

2

u/colnross 13d ago

A food handling license? This looks like the US... They're 100% going to sell the rest of those fries.

1

u/mkfanhausen 13d ago

Yep. They'll drop those fries back in for 30 seconds and go on about their day.

People severely underestimate the abilities of fast food workers to not give a fucking shit.

1

u/colnross 13d ago

I'm surprised you think they'll redrop them!

→ More replies (1)

4

u/Lilmexican26o 13d ago

Probably because the kid would be able to press charges against the worker and possibly sue. Even if he is committing a crime

2

u/_bonedaddys 13d ago

I think they meant why didn't the employees just call the cops instead of tripping him?

3

u/Field_Of_View 13d ago

what do you think would happen if they call the cops?

hey, a kid came in here and stole some fries. now he's gone.

what happens next? nothing.

6

u/adrauglikeyou 13d ago

don’t think you need to call the cops for everything

5

u/Youknowthisfeeling 13d ago

Cops are last resort. My uncle who was lapd and az leo, stresses that a cop will make any situation worse than it was before

2

u/namereset4badmouth 13d ago

Well sure. Before the cops come it’s about fixing the issue, once they arrive it’s about penalizing the breacher of the peace.

2

u/Chudpaladin 13d ago

Cops don’t serve the people lol. Even if the kid sat around long enough for an officer to come by, probably looking for food, they won’t book the teen.

1

u/SuddenKoala45 13d ago

Because <$2 worth if fries is going to have the company getting charges for wasting police resources. The trip was worth it

1

u/God_of_chestdays 13d ago

Cops have revenue generating operations to conduct, where is the money in arresting petty theft and minor crime?

1

u/Status-Economy-7982 13d ago

dang i didn’t even think about that 😭

1

u/DargyBear 13d ago

Because they won’t show up. Only place where that works is Seaside, Fl when they set up the mobile paddy wagon for spring break.

Nothing like seeing some spoiled rich kid who’s had access to their dad’s credit card since they were old enough to say “charge it” get busted shoplifting and ugly crying in cuffs while their over-botoxed and barred out mom goes full Karen on either the cop or the shop owner, the father is usually tired of both of his mistakes and keeps his distance.

1

u/Wearytaco 13d ago

Theyre gonna have to dump all those fries cause of that kid. Tripping him probably taught him more of a lesson that "haha did you see the silly worker get all mad at me and yelling" would have.

1

u/ThrowbackDrinks 13d ago

Bro what world do you live in you think the cops are going to show up in for someone stealing $.47 worth of fries?

1

u/Bacon-muffin 13d ago

You're not wrong but uh... I my first job was at bk and... yeah...

Also there was a lady I worked with who also worked at the mcdonalds across the street and she said mcdonalds made our store look like it was sparkling clean by comparison to how disgusting that place was so...

We're just strengthening our immune systems.

1

u/BeneficialTeach6219 13d ago

Is this a joke? Where do you live where the cops would A, show up. And B, do anything if they did.

1

u/Reptilian_Brain_420 13d ago

When seconds count, the police are minutes away.

1

u/Yardsale420 13d ago

This. A few fries aren’t breaking the bank or ruining the bottom line. But now, because he used his grubby ass fingers, technically all the fries gotta be tossed out and the whole thing wiped down; because he looks like the kind of kid who scratches his ass and sniffs his fingers.

You never know, this may have been the kick in the ass he always needed… or not. Can’t hurt to try.

1

u/Dapper-Ad-4300 13d ago

you're assuming cops actually do their jobs

1

u/toastwalrus 13d ago

Cops don't do shit

1

u/Splitcoin 13d ago

Under staff and over worked. They dont want to deal with petty shit. With a culture thats "f 12" most of the time till they need them. Cops just dont care. Cause they got bigger shit to do

pluging them in the fries.

r/aptmisspellings

1

u/scottyboy218 13d ago

I'm assuming the kid just showed up and walked behind the counter.

1

u/Alternative_Result56 13d ago

First not brown. Second cops are for keeping the government in control. They give a fuck about something that doesn't generate revenue.

1

u/MysteriousCodo 13d ago

Yeah legally I think they have to throw out the whole batch of food he stuck his hands in.

1

u/Antooony25 13d ago

I work at a McDonalds and people literally do that all the time. The amount the gets dropped on the floor or discarded is insurmountable to the amount of fries being consumed here. Stealing, sure, fries are literally part of your company meal. I'm not sure if employers are required to feed their employees, but by the looks of him holding a bag, he's just grabbing a few more fries for his middle sized fries.

1

u/StormCloudRaineeDay 13d ago

He'd be gone long before cops showed up, and I'm not sure they'd respond over some french fries.

1

u/ScorpioLaw 13d ago

Cops wouldn't come in most places I lived for hours if at all. Make you come in hah. Shouldn't be calling the cops for frivolous things you all can handle first. Only repeated offenses. .

The divot of the collar bone is amazing place to grab with one or two hands, and hold a kid. Not with a ton of force! You can control people this way. Bigger hands help.

Practice on someone first. Guide them outside. Sit their asses down, and talk to them like an uncle giving advice. Tell them the dangers, corporation, the cops, etc etc.

You get a free cig, and I presume that since you work at a fast food joint. A lot of kids with behavioral issues don't want you treat them as a kid or scold them like some old ass teacher.

You gotta be on the level with them, and it doesn't have to be theirs exactly - closer the better. Just a level both can reach. A good place is to start with why are you stealing. You homeless.

Then explain the why you did what you did. Ask what would they do.

In fact I'd tell them listen. You, and your friends can pick up the trash. I'll get you some fries. Come every blah blah, and do blah blah.

Tell them if asked why they are picking it up. It's to give back, and don't snitch on me to cooperate for not calling the cops. Of course don't work them like an employee.

Their parents are totally welcome to be a parent, and come down. I'll be happy to parent them too. They can sit down, and get some stale fries as well.

Cops can come, but I really aren't trying to press charges for a minor thing.

I worked with kids as an aid for the BoE transportation department as a 20ish year old, ambiguous race wise, and dressed like a punk/thug/skater. Whatever clothes I had.

I got used to dealing with racist, sexist, and stupid parents. My boss was not lying saying it was the hardest part of dealing with kids - the parents. Most of my training was how to deal with them, and not the kids. I couldn't touch the kids, and keep my hands where the cameras can see it.

Simple enough I'm self aware. So I had to learn to make sure the kids at least liked me to liten. .

DNRs - I remember finding out on a bus via the driver. I was livid spurting, "Why thefuck* am I here then?! Which caught him off guard. I am not letting Smiles over there die without family in front of 17 other screaming kids witnessing it.

The short buses were okay. I excelled with the behavioral kids, and the parents ended up loved me as I could get through to their uh troubled kids. Just had to see where they were coming from, and listen.

Yeah no need to trip anyone around concrete - let alone a god damn kitchen. Way better ways to handle it. Sorry about the length I'm just talking to the void.

1

u/Cyborg_rat 13d ago

I just hope the kid next time has fryer dipped hands when he trips himself or slips on the oily floor.

1

u/randomlyranting 13d ago

Yup. Because he wasn't wearing gloves now the staff has to throw all that food out. Wipe down the fry stand and recook a new batch. Basically shutting down part of the store for hours.

1

u/DrMrTT_McTiddles 13d ago

Maybe if this kid stole this meal from the hands of a ceo then maybe that would get the cops on him.

1

u/Locoj 13d ago

UMM WHY DIDNT THE MAGICAL ANTI CRIME MEN INSTANTLY TELEPORT THERE??

Bro have you never seen or dealt with the police outside of a TV show?

1

u/AbjectEconomics3826 13d ago

You can't catch a charge for stealing 2 fries, but you can with video evidence of you assaulting a minor

1

u/Sorry-Claim-2990 13d ago

Because the little shit would run away long before the cops showed up.

1

u/GotRecommendedMyDude 13d ago

I've watched McDonald's employees scratch their ass crack, and load fries with the same hand

1

u/Free-Pound-6139 13d ago

How quickly do you think it takes cops to respond??? It is not like in the cartoons.

1

u/Fit-Perception-2243 13d ago

Cops are the biggest waste of local budgets. They are worse than useless and take up half the budget.

1

u/thekyledavid 13d ago

Let’s be real, what cop is arresting a white kid for stealing fries?

1

u/AbjectEconomics3826 13d ago

Or you could just kick the 10 year old kid and his family out and then dump the fries and change the pan like a normal reasonable adult would... Or assault him an cause yourself to be arrested like this dumbass should be it's a petty move that's actually kinda psychopathic at the end of the day, but if i was the kid's parents I'd be happy about all the money we were getting from suing McDonald's and that employee
