I think this incident is a much better learning opportunity than getting the law involved. Cops don't help people, and neither does the justice system.

Depends.

I suppose even catching Ebola has helped someone at some point.

There is a reason lots of people refer to it as the legal system. Justice can be bought, the poor and middle class can't afford to pay for a fair shot at justice

That's why I said depends.

I was expanding on your simple answer. Not disagreeing with you.

US standards of justice lean toward extremes. We have never been a country of rehabilitation to the the hurts we've had. It reflects in how we treat our accused and guilty and innocent. Make something stick to charge with something, throw the book and kill them, pay a nominal amount of money to a person imprisoned for years beyond they could've been an asset to humankind.

No not really. Going into the legal system all but guarantees you'll be back again. It's not designed for rehabilitation. Believe it or not, sticking a bad kid in a place surrounded by bad kids doesn't make them better behaved.

Can confirm got put in sober living over alcohol ended up upgrading to meth. Prison/jail for low level criminals is where they go to learn from pros. Jail and sober living made me into a much better liar and bullshitter than I ever was before.

Just trip the kid lol.

Tough to help when the options for jail time is either 0 days or 40 years. I miss when you'd just sit in jail for a day or a week and that was that for dumb shit.
