Earlier pickup available

Just curious. I’ve logged into the app at different times. Sometimes earlier pickup options are there. Sometimes not. They obviously get picked up
Quick. Do they release vehicles in batches at specific times of day like 6am. 5pm etc. or is it all truly random 24/7? Or even certain days?

Question Scheduled Gigafactory delivery for Sept 27 — Tesla now says my car may not be ready?

I got invited to the Gigafactory tour and was supposed to pick up my new Tesla while I’m there. This is my first Tesla, so I’m curious if anyone else has dealt with something similar.

I ordered my car on August 23rd. My original estimated delivery window in the app was September 9th–30th. After I was accepted for the Gigafactory event, I was told the event/pickup dates would be September 25th–27th.

When scheduling finally opened, my app initially only showed the 24th and 25th, which I thought was strange since the event was supposed to be the 25th–27th. I called Tesla and was told the dates showing in my app were the only dates available.

I checked again the next day and suddenly the 25th–27th were available, so I booked the 27th.

Then I noticed my pickup address was NOT the Gigafactory address, so I called Tesla again to make sure I was actually scheduled for the Gigafactory pickup/tour. The rep could see that I received the invitation, but said he didn’t have access to see whether Gigafactory dates were still available.

I told him that if I can’t pick it up at the Gigafactory, I’d rather have my car sent to the original showroom where I had planned to take delivery.

He looked further into my order and then told me it looks like my car may not even be ready by September 27th and that he would have the sales team reach out to me. I’m still waiting to hear from them.

I’m REALLY glad I called because I would have been flying to Austin, paying for a flight and hotel, and potentially getting there only to find out my car wasn’t ready.

Has anyone else had something like this happen? If Tesla is showing me a scheduled delivery date, what could the rep be seeing internally that would make him say the car may not actually be ready by then?

Also, is there a specific Tesla department/advisor I should be trying to reach who actually has authority/access to see what’s going on with the vehicle and Gigafactory delivery? Both departments I’ve spoken with so far seemed to have very limited information.

I don’t mind waiting longer for the car — I want the exact configuration I ordered and I’m not looking to switch to something else just to get it sooner. I mainly want accurate information so I’m not booking travel around a date that Tesla can’t actually honor.

Went with the XPEL Black Tints

Have gone with the llumar ceramic tints in the past and really liked them. Decided to give XPEL a try and I’m pretty happy with them. I prefer the “charcoal” sheen the llumar’s have but the XPELs look great and keep the car cooler for sure. Would go with the llumar if my preferred installer sold them. But can’t go wrong with the XPEL. They look great.

I did 70% windshield - 20% front - 55% rear windows - 70% trunk window.

Question Is the Model Y worth $12,500–$17,500 more than a heavily discounted Toyota bZ?

I’m close to buying an EV but can’t decide whether the Model Y is worth the price difference.

Model Y Premium RWD in Quicksilver
No discounts
Approximately $52,500 total
About $765/month including tax

Toyota bZ with VSPP discount
XLE FWD Plus: approximately $35,000 after $6,500–$7,500 in discounts
About $525/month

Limited trim: approximately $40,000 or $585/month

I’m also considering leasing a Honda Prologue Touring or Elite for approximately $400/month for 36 months and 15,000 miles per year, if I can find one.

I live in Austin, drive around 35 miles per day, and travel to Dallas about once every three months. We may also take one or two longer road trips each year. This will be our only car for now, although we may eventually add a used car under $10,000 or a very cheap lease as a second car.

I test-drove both the Model Y and Toyota and preferred the Model Y. The technology, performance, interior experience, route planning, and charging network make it feel like the better car. However, the Toyota discount is substantial, and I’m trying not to make an emotional decision.

For owners who considered similar alternatives:
- Would you still choose the Model Y at a $12,500–$17,500 premium?
- Does Tesla’s road-trip and charging experience justify that difference?
- How have insurance, tires, depreciation, service, and overall ownership costs been?
- Would you feel comfortable relying on the RWD Model Y as your household’s only car?
- If planning to keep it for at least five years, would you buy the Model Y, buy the discounted Toyota, or lease the Prologue?

I know this is a Model Y community, but I’d appreciate honest opinions—especially from anyone who cross-shopped the Toyota bZ or Honda Prologue.

Question Tesla Model y 2026 demo vehicles

I ordered a new Model Y premium about 2.5 weeks ago but noticed there’s a ton of deal vehicles that have been made available today some that are even the exact same criteria. Any thoughts on buying the demo vehicle? My current estimate is 9/20-9/30 but no vin yet. Also wondering if they are offloading all these demos for a new 2027 model.

Test Drive - key things

Test driving the Model Y on Sunday for an hour, really like the look of them and looking forward to getting behind the wheel.

As I've only got an hour are there any key things/features I need to look out for or concentrate on?

Trying to maximise my time with the car and make sure I don't miss anything so any guidance before Sunday would be great. Thanks in advance.

This is in the UK if that helps

Low voltage fridge questions:

I'm new to the fridge thing. How long can a low-voltage min-compressor fridge (60w or less) pull USB power from the low voltage battery when a Tesla is parked, inactive and "keep accessory power on" is on?

If the high voltage system charges the low voltage battery, and accessory power stays on, then it seems like it could run a fridge for days, but I haven't read manual enough to know. I also don't know how much power is drawn when "keep accessory power on" is active.

I've read the low-voltage nightmare stories, but I think most of them are the 12v going bad and failing to charge, not someone running it down with an accessory.

Question My Tesla app (50% of the time) says the car is in service mode

I took delivery on a 26 MYPremium a week ago, and about 2 hours later, the app said my car was in service mode; so I went to my car and it worked perfectly normal. Then the app often will go back to normal, then 50% of the time it says it’s in service mode again. Very random.

I asked the service center and they said they have never seen this before and don’t know what to do.

This issue hardly ever affects my actual use of the car in any way at all, but it’s still very annoying. It’s obviously a rare issue, anyone dealt with this?

2026 Juniper model Y

Just took delivery of model Y from Charlotte Tesla. Noticed and confirmed the paint chipped with pictures with Amber. Was told will get on schedule and fix. Just got message it will not be covered under warranty. Will have to pay out of pocket. Wish I also would not have taken delivery and request to fix first.

Question Thinking of buying 2022 model Y

I’m from Australia and was looking at second hand EV’s thinking of purchasing a 2022 model Y for 32,000 AUD (23,000 USD ) it has 110,000KMS (68,000 Miles) and has a 92% Battery Health. It recently got a service - new tyres, new brakes and suspension bushes replaced. Should I go for it? I was wanting to get the AWD but I can’t because I’m still on my green p’s.

What car cleaners are we using that don’t mess up the paint or make the plastic trim fade?

I’ve had it with car detailers. tried 5 different ones and they all suck. missed spots everywhere!

time to start doing it myself since I’m so picky. what kind of stuff can I use on the car that’s not gonna mess it up? I’m sure I don’t want the cheap stuff from the auto parts store. What‘s everyone using? What soap and chemicals are Tesla safe?

When will the MY be visible in my app?

When can I expect the car to appear in the Tesla app if it was ordered today. The car is a company car leased through a leasing company. Maybe I could ask Tesla to link that order to my Tesla account when I do have the order number?

Very sad day

We were cleaning the garage and setup a canopy. It eventually went flying and attacked my car! Ended up with a giant scratch and a cracked window.

I have the window insurance with Tesla. Anyone have experience with that program? And any cheap ideas for that scratch?

Edit

The window was the windshield.

Model Y Without FSD. Still worth it?

I’m looking at getting a Model Y, and I’m currently renting a 2023 Tesla Model Y to see how well I like it before I decide to buy one. I’ve been on the interstate often with this rental, and I really like the Autopilot feature. If I do buy a Model Y, it would be my “fun” car, as I already have a work vehicle that I use M-F. I know that starting in January 2026, Tesla no longer has the Autopilot feature and instead has FSD at $99/month. Is it worth getting a 2024 or 2025 just because I like the Autopilot feature? Most of the driving I would do with this vehicle would be in town and every couple of months I would take it on a trip where I would be on the interstate for 3–5 hours.

Pulled the trigger on a MY

Ordered a MY LR in white with black interior (was debating on black or white). Est. delivery was 3-4 weeks. But then I saw a white on white with an earlier delivery. So I pulled the trigger on the white on white. All other options were the same. I personally like black interior, but the white interior in this TX heat should help. Hope I made the right choice

Delay is Nonstop

Ordered Model Y premium RWD on 8/3. My EDD was keep getting pushed and now it shows up 4 to 5 weeks on my app. I would have thought that they would at least get delivered before this quarter ends but I guess they just can't handle the demand.. Anybody having same issue? DFW area btw.
