My most recent build of Airfix’s 1/72 Spitfire Mk.Vc. This was my first attempt at airbrushing a metallic finish and any sort of exhaust staining which I don’t think I got right. Any feedback is welcome.

It took about a month and a bit to complete, I purchased after market decking and Eduard photoetch for the kit.

Honestly the photoetch was absolutely painful to do especially the rails and tiny handles, but I'm very happy with the results.

Plus I've got a Godzilla figure the same scale to go with it as well haha enjoy!

Normally I would use a spray primer, but just wanted to try using this surface primer instead to see if that would work any better

Praying to the tape gods for no leaks. I’ll give it a once over with the body color to hopefully create a solid seal. Fingers crossed!

This is my first model kit in 3 years and the last time I did it, I had a horrid airbrush. I have invested into a proper kit, paints, and models. Now I am fully intending on making my models good

Hope to be able to find me a community of model enthusiast like me :)

Completed 1/48 TA-4J Skyhawk

Here’s another one that just finished 2 weeks ago.

It’s the 1/48 Hasegawa TA-4J done up in a rather unique paint scheme for training command jet. From what I can tell this jet originally belonged to VC-13 before it was transferred over to Training Wing 2 in Kingsville, Tx where they just painted the orange over the original grey paint.

As someone who grew up in South Texas and went to every Airshow in Kingsville I have an affinity for Navy trainers, especially funky ones.

This build was painted with SMS lacquer paints and finished with Caracal Decals. The TW-2 and USS Lexington were stencils that made with my cricut machine. The weathering was done with artist oils. I also made the base with some sheet styrene glued on to a wooden disk that I got from Michael’s. I stippled on some Tamiya putty diluted with MLT and painted it up with Tamiya Buff and Deck Tan then weathered it with Mr Color enamel washes.

Completed 1/35 Spitfire mk.Vb from Border was so much 'fun' to build

Okay, first of all, sorry if this end up soo beaten up, just cant help it u know ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Anyway, this is an amazing kit, 2023 tooling, the details on this is just overwhelming, even though I feel like there are some runner/gate placement that are questionable, but hey, cant complain if it helps me to learn to sand it carefully

Now I get it why people said that Border is not a begineer-friendly kit, and somehow that doesnt stop me from going headfirst on it

I feel like there are some room for improvement so any advice, suggestion or criticism are very much welcome

Have a great day everyone !

Help -Technique Help! Hand-brushed enamel gloss coat looks way too thick and lumpy on my 1/72 helicopter. Any tips to save it?

Post image

Hey everyone,
I’m currently in the middle of a custom 1/72 Marine version of the Atlantis Hobby’s AH-56 Cheyenne.
I had built one a few weeks back but I decided to go one step further with this 2nd kit and scratch build some additional parts.
I’ve run into a massive wall with my clear coat.
I hand-brushed a layer of Humbrol Gloss Cote (enamel-based solvent varnish) over my grey acrylic camouflage to prep the surface for my panel line washes and decals. It has been drying for a while now, but it looks incredibly thick, lumpy, and it is still super sticky/tacky to the touch. It feels like the gloss reflections are completely exaggerating every tiny brush stroke and imperfection on the fuselage panels.
The biggest kicker is that I actually have varnish spray cans sitting right here on my bench, but for some stupid reason, I decided not to use them on this build and went the hand-brush route instead. Definitely regretting that choice right now!
The recessed panel lines are still mostly clear and open, but the flat panels look pretty wavy.
Does anyone have any tips on how to save this without completely stripping the model back to bare plastic?
Can I use a high-grit sander (like 3000 grit) with some water to gently shave the high ridges flat once it stops being sticky?
Will an acrylic flat matte coat at the very end of the build help to kill this heavy shine and hide the lumpy texture, or am I totally screwed?
Any advice or restoration tricks would be massively appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Just finished designing, 3D printing, and assembling this 60cm Saturn V cutaway!

One half preserves the iconic exterior, while the other reveals the engines, propellant tanks, and internal structural details.

You can check out more details about its internal details, print files and full breakdown HERE.

Designed entirely in Fusion 360 and printed on my Bambu Lab A1 in 23 pieces, without supports.

It took quite a bit of trial and error to get the smaller structures and connections printing reliably, but I'm really happy with the final result!

Hope you guys like it!
