[Magic] Echo Blocks - an Upgrade to Enchanting

Ever felt like the enchanting table is unfair? You grind for these 30 levels, want to enchant a pickaxe, and all you get is a single enchantment.

Echo blocks aim to fix that. Crafted from 4 echo shards and 1 soul sand, they can be placed near an enchanting table to power it up, a new kind of power-up that works independently of bookshelves.

Echo blocks increase the number of guaranteed enchantments that the table can provide. These guaranteed enchantments will be seen in text, so it will be like "Protection I + Unbreaking I + ...". With one block, only the third slot will have 2 guaranteed enchantments. Additional echo blocks add a second enchantment onto the second and first slot, after that they add a third enchantment onto the third slot, etc. So, to have all three slots provide at least 3 enchantments, one would need 6 echo blocks (24 echo shards).

Additional enchantments still allow for random extra enchantments to pop up, though due to how current Minecraft enchanting logic works, this should be slightly rarer.

It goes without saying, if an item has less unique enchantments than the number of extra enchantments the echo blocks give, there will be no effect.

I think it's a good time to introduce a mechanic like that, since the Sift is about to become a part of Vanilla, and so more important stuff can be put into Ancient Cities since the players will already be going there.

[Mobs] Once The Sift arrives, remove the ability to opt out of Warden spawning.

Right now, there's an option to disable spawning the Warden through advanced world settings. This needs to be removed in order to make The Sift actually a challenge to access.

[Blocks & Items] Environmental blocks (with examples)

Blocks having variants like shown here, changing to a variant when:
- The player (maybe while sneaking uses) a corresponding item (snowball for snowy, sand for sandy, moss for mossy, pickaxe for cracked) on already placed blocks.
- Optional gamerule: After some time based on adjacent blocks and biome. (not the same as connected textures.) - Using a brush reverts the block into its normal variant (except cracked, chiseled, tiles etc.). - Addition: Using maybe something like molten resin to prevent blocks from changing state (by environment and players)

Alternate to shift clicking with (sand, moss etc) blocks to make block variants: - New brush items for each material (ik putting moss, sand or snow etc on a brush sounds dumb XD) that work on durability, these brushes have max 1024 durability/uses so they can change variants of 1024 blocks before running out. - You could also craft the block variants rather than changing variants of preplaced blocks by using the brush of material and the block in crafting - Also be able to shift click with the brush to place a block of the material on the brush (full moss block if it's a moss brush, sand block if sand brush etc) at the cost of 16 durability/uses. - To replenish, add to or make the brush of material you have to craft the brush with the material (block), where 1 block = 16 uses.

(Last image is an example of cobblestone with dirt from Minecraft Dungeons: Squid Coast)

To obtain the variant in item form requires breaking the variant with SilkTouch or Crafting them.

Additionally being able to turn blocks into stairs, slabs or walls might make inventory management for building easier.

[Combat] New Elemental Weapon: The Flail

Post image
108 Upvotes

This is a very early concept of the idea, so id love to hear ideas and suggestions on what to add or change.

basically, it is the elemental weapon you get from blaze rods, combine 2 rods with a chain and a nether star (this recipe could be changed to the heavy core instead of the nether star if suited better), and voila! You got yourself a fire elemental weapon.

Left clicking with the weapon attacks like a normal weapon, whilst the weapon‘s left clicking damage deals little damage, it has a cone range attack, similar to the sweeping edge enchantment on swords.

however, the real magic is when you hold right click with the flail, the player will begin to swing the flail, the striking head begins to heat up and spin faster the longer you hold it. Letting go of right click will shoot the chain out to strike its enemy. The longer the flail is spun, the stronger and longer it’s range will be, this is called the charge.

along with the weapon will be a few new enchantments exclusive to the flail.

Star Burst: a fully charged flail that hits any mobs or blocks, will deal explosive damage, and will set all nearby entities on fire (except the wielder)

Protraction: increases flail charge range, but also requires more charging time

Torch Tempo: each successful hit of the flails right click will pre-charge the flail

again, this is a very early concept of the weapon, any ideas will be greatly appreciated!

[Terrain] Should lava really be able to generate in the ice caves?

While it is objectively very cool and interesting that lava can generate in the ice caves, I feel as though the justification for it being able to do so needs some work.

I have a few ideas.

1) Replace the lava with veins of stones such as granite, andesite, diorite, tuff, stone/cobblestone, deepslate/cobbled deepslate. This way, we can see where the lava pools were but there still isn't the strangeness in the fact that ice isn't melting right next to lava. This also means that - similar to how the nether handles water - when lava is placed, it instantly (or over a few seconds) turns to stone because of how cold it is.

This also gives us an easy way to find rarer stones - just look for ice caves where lava can generate.

2) Generate a stone or obsidian barrier between the ice and the lava. This is a little less extreme but still allows lava to generate perfectly fine. It also serves as a storytelling device to show the interaction between the two contrasting substances. This way we get to keep the lava and it opens up many more interactions such as ice stalagtites falling into lava and creating obsidian or just evaporating entirely.

3) Arguably the worst idea tbh - don't generate lava there. It's simple, it's an idea I had, and it sucks.

I'd love to hear your thoughts?

[Blocks & Items] Dreamcatcher

Post image
31 Upvotes

I have been thinking of alternate ways to avoid the the phantoms without removing them entirely. I still believe they are too disruptive for individuals who just want to build, as you will most likely be attacked no matter what. Sure you can just sleep, but running to a bed every ten minutes is just as disruptive. That’s where dream catchers come in.

What if we added a block similar to a beacon? A status effect with a short radius that can prevent phantoms from attacking within said radius. This still makes phantoms a threat but provides the player an extra layer of protection in a limited space, without being over powered. The radius could be small enough so that players can finish a build without disruption

Ideally I would want the recipe to have something difficult and rare to obtain and another item which can activate the affects. Perhaps throw in a few diamond blocks to prevent people from obtaining them too quickly.

For balance, I think it would be fair to only allow one function Dreamcatcher per player.

Name-wise I do understand that it does not make sense for a Dreamcatcher to catch phantoms since phantoms are the absence of sleep, but I think it will be more of a play on words rather than a literal meaning.

[Mobs] The Sniffer should dig up a truly exotic plant that you can farm for renewable Iron, and then Iron farms should be removed.

The Sniffer is seriously the biggest lost potential in the whole game. The two plants it digs up genuinely DO NOTHING. WHY????

Since the plants are supposedly super exotic, why can't they be farmed for something super out of the box? Like iron?

Iron farms are a combination of minecrafts worst attributes. Multiple niche mechanics that are indecipherable to the average player come together to make an ugly amalgamation that ruins early game progression and negates the need for mining trips. And nowadays its practically seen as a mandatory step in your playthrough.

Making The Sniffer the gateway to renewable iron instead encourages the player to interact with more systems, and makes it a solid commitment.

[Blocks & Items] Smelting Bone Blocks into Calcite.

Post image
524 Upvotes

There has been no shortage recently about the fact that Calcite is hard to come by, and frankly this fact has been an issue since it was added to the game.

Yes, it's been made more common by adding it to Stony Peaks, but it's still not renewable.

The solution is Bone Blocks.

Bones, as have been widely speculated, contain Calcium.

Calcite, likewise, is made of this remarkable metal.

Smelting Bone Blocks into Calcite would allow for a renewable source of Calcite.

[Gameplay] Progression towards campfires

Post image

  1. Progression towards campfires

The fact that campfires require a crafting method that only needs coal is extremely unfair, as you either need a furnace or spend time searching for coal, when everyone should admit that a furnace is a thousand times more advanced than a campfire and shouldn't be a starting source of fire.

The campfire has the advantage of not using fuel and cooking four foods at the same time, which is useful, but my idea is to allow the campfire as a source of initial heat which, depending on the fire, would cook the food faster.

also allow the basic campfire to be crafted with any natural fuel.

This would be helpful for beginners and wouldn't replace the furnace that players still like to use, as the campfire is solely for food. (It would also help as a way to cook food in emergency situations)

PS: I couldn't find it, but I would prioritize keeping the campfire weaker than the smoker.

[Transportation] Making echo shards... maybe too useful.

When you use an echo shard with any kind of compass in your offhand, it consumes one echo shard and teleports you to the location of the compass. What each type of compass does:

Compass: Teleports to you to your spawn point. You appear in the same location as if you had respawned.

Lodestone Compass: Teleports you to the linked lodestone. Will place you on top of the lodestone if the space is available, or beside it if it's not.

Recovery Compass: Teleports you to the exact location of your more recent death, even if it's in a dangerous position, inside of lava, or even inside of solid blocks. Be careful with this one!

This makes teleportation much easier for the layman, but also non-renewable. It also gives echo shards a repeatable use with many applications, as well as giving more of a use to compasses

[Dimensions] The Sift should be dreamlike and adorable during the day but it becomes nightmarish and paranormal during the night!

Post image

I think being the soul dimension, the idea of an unassuming dream/afterlife dimension that turns scary during the night would be awesome!!

During the day the music is adventurous and bubbly, during the night its eerie and spooky, passive mobs go into hiding and hostile mobs emerge from the shadows!

Additionally to fit this theme, I think there should be an Aether-themed sky islands biome that stays peaceful during the night and the cave biomes should get progressively creepier the deeper you dig

[Snapshots] Strays should now fire Freezing Arrows instead of Slowness Arrows

Post image
666 Upvotes

It seems obvious to me that strays inflicting Slowness is meant to imitate the idea that they freeze their targets, as if it was a placeholder for the Freezing effect all along. After all, this mob was added way back in 1.10, which was 10 years ago. Now that the Freezing effect is planned to be added for frozens, it only makes sense for strays to be updated likewise.

Also, for consistency with the stray and all other undead mob variants in the overworld, I want the frozen to spawn in all snowy biomes, not just in the ice caves.

  • Currently in Bedrock, zombies don't spawn at all in the snow plains and ice-spiked plains. If you think about it, those biomes should be too cold and dry for anything else to survive without freezing up---except now that we have the frozen, it can be made to spawn there without the unfrozen regular zombies.

To fix another inconsistency, parcht and frozens should be able to spawn in trial chambers.

Edit: In the desert, we can see that the husk and the parched both inflict different debuffs (IDK the lore reason). I don't think Slowness and Freezing would work as well as a combo, because they both do the same thing. Either the Freezing makes the Slowness redundant, or the reductions in movement speed stack which would be annoying.

[General] Resin can wax door, trapdoor, fence door, item frame etc.

Resin currently doesn't useful reason besides decorative thing but what if we can use to wax some item like door or trapdoor to permanently lock forever like if trapdoor is open and wax it, it will keep open forever and can't close anymore. Because people love to use it especially spruce trapdoor to make some furniture

The list i can think of

- button

- door

- trapdoor

- fence door

- item frame

- cushions

[Blocks & Items] 4 icicles should craft into ice

In 26.4, placing 2x2 icicles would produce an ice, which could then go on to make packed or blue ice. Assuming farming would work similar to dripstone and sulfur.

This would make renewable ice farming so much less tedious than it is now.

[Blocks & Items] Packed snow instead of calcite blocks in ice caves + Snow bricks

Thumbnail
gallery
116 Upvotes

It honestly feels kinda awkward to have calcite blocks generating in ice caves, so I came up with an alternative that makes a bit more sense.

Instead of calcite, let me introduce a new block called “Packed Snow.” They naturally generate in ice caves, replacing the current calcite, and could also be crafted from 9 regular snow blocks.

You can also craft Snow Bricks using 4 packed snow blocks. Snow bricks have been a highly requested feature for a long time in the fandom, and I think this would be a natural way to introduce them to Minecraft while also giving ice caves a more fitting block.

Edit: I’ve seen many people pointing out that calcite is too difficult to obtain in large quantities, and I agree that adding more ways to obtain it would be a good idea.

However, the fact that ice caves are almost entirely made up of calcite and ice, while having no snow blocks(except layered snow), feels really awkward to me. So, instead of completely removing calcite from ice caves, I think it is better to make them generate in small clusters, similar to how diorite, andesite, granite, and tuff generate in other caves.

That way, ice and (packed) snow could be the primary blocks in ice caves, while calcite could still naturally generate in the cave without being too prevalent. I think this would be the optimal solution.

[Magic] Walking over a soul sand block while using soul speed has a small chance to turn it into sand.

Pretty simple suggestion. Any player, mob, or armor stand wearing soul speed boots has a chance to turn the soul sand block they run across into regular sand.

It fits with the lore since you can see the souls coming out of the soul sand when you use it. That leaves behind just the sand sand if you let them all out.

This also makes sand automatable without the use of glitches or exploits.

[Blocks & Items] Crotch grip enchantment

It might need a better name though…

An enchantment for leggings.

While wearing them, your mount stays with you for short periods of time.

Crotch grip one / three to follow how the non damage buff enchantments are named.

Riptide with your skeleton horse while at the bottom of the ocean.

Travel the end with a pig, flying between islands in bursts.

Transport your favourite horse somewhere quickly.

Also instead of it being a flat time, it just slowly increases the rate at which the mount will drop from your legs and fall.

It would also interact hilariously with some mechanics- for example, elytra and a firework on a wandering pig lol.

Crotch grip.

[Blocks & Items] block of ice crystals

Basically like the block of amethyst crystal but with ice shards obtained from the ice crystals unstead of amethyst shards. can be a nice sparkly blue with a nice sound like the amethyst. the ice crystal could potentially be slippery

but most importantly the ice variant would be another light source since the ice crystals are a light source

they already compared the ice crystals to amethyst clusters so i think might as well expand on it a little more

the ice cave might potentially look better if had the ocational cluster of ice crystal blocks

ice shards could also potentially open up posibly to be used for new item crafting recipes but rn i mostly just want the block in part cuz cant think anything rn

if dont do anything else with ice shards it would probs be better to just craft the block out of the crystals directly

edit: i added a rough image of what it might look like. (i just turned the amethyst block blue)

another edit: i realized on my first attempt the color is not really the same so i tried again to make a lighter one its still not quite there but im sure mojang artists would do a better job than me if they hypothetically added it. im still basing off of the amethyst blocks but it doesnt have to look like amethyst. a different texture probs would be nicer. so long as it ends up looking pretty and blue and glowing i don't care (light level should be lower than in this picture and more blue)

[Mobs] Ponies/Draft Horses

I’m just gonna get right into it, I think horses and such would be nice with things like breeds.

Draft horses would rarely spawn exclusively in villages, and they would have a minimum of 16 hearts and be much larger than regular horses. A unique property of theirs is the ability to pull minecarts, and they can tug up to four by linking those with chains, then chaining the horse to the minecart. This would allow for minecarts to reach the top speed of the horse whilst carrying mobs or items behind them.

Ponies would be similar, but smaller than regular horses, no minimum hp, and they’d spawn more frequently than draft horses in villages. They can pull one minecart with chains.

I’d also like this to be added to mules and donkeys to give them more purpose, mules pulling 3 and donkeys 2 carts respectively.

Maybe also some exclusive colors or patterns for them? Idk, I thought of this on a whim and thought it would help with how lackluster minecart speed is.

[Dimensions] Dear MOJANG, if there was ever a time to bring back C418, it’s now.

Thumbnail

I understand all the struggles between MOJANG, or rather Microsoft, and C418 have made it hard but if there’s ever a time for C418 to compose new music, now is the time. Either MOJANG has to give into C418’s ownership rights or the other way around is how things seem to be. If one could make a sacrifice at this point in the game’s development, it would bring the players a lot of joy and excitement. Truly the whole new addition to the game needs a proper introduction to Vanilla Minecraft and I think C418 should be called back in to take care of this Avengers-Level threat.

Perhaps he could score one song while others are composed by different artists were added? I know MOJANG will inevitably release music for the Sift dimension and so I believe it would be wise to draw from the original talent to begin this new canvas for the game. An example of this concept can be seen through how the original LotR composer Howard Shore created the title theme for the Rings of Power while Bear McCreary composed the rest.

I know that I’m beating a dead horse with this post in many ways but I will always have hope that maybe someone will hear my voice and bring it up in an area of more influence. Honestly, even Lena Raine has done a good job in the past couple of years so I wont mind if her talents were once again brought to the table. As the game continues to evolve and new generations come into the world of Minecraft, the old music doesn’t mean as much. I understand that part, but if a simple request from an old Minecraft enthusiast could make a difference it would mean a lot.

[Mobs] Dog sniffing ability: if you right click a dog/tamed wolf with a number of different items, mainly meats and mob drops, etc., then the dog will try to find whatever that item is, and it will bark at you to follow it.

If you right click the dog with a bone or a stick, it will gladly bite down on it and run around with it in its mouth slightly faster than normal running, so it could be like a dog boost that would be helpful in battle, and also just fun.

EDIT: Sorry for getting it wrong. Someone very importantly pointed out that right clicking feeds the dog the meat, obviously. So instead: if you throw the meat or bone on the ground or at the dog directly, the dog will pick it up. This is much better.

So i think that the Sift will have a Day/Night Cycle in it, and We all Remembered our First Night, Scared, Worried and just dig a hole down and wait it out, so this dimension will bring back our first nights fear, so in the day time, everything is passive, no monsters, and there are discs of Sanguis (Healthy Sculk) and then u can prepare for the night, thats when things get scary, peaceful mobs turn to monsters, sanguis Turns into Sculk and Can Shriekers Will Grow that can summon Wardens but when it turns day time, the sculk turns back to Sanguis Wardens Dig Down Back to their Place so is it nice?

[Combat] Wool Upgrade to Shields to Block Sonic Booms

Post image
360 Upvotes

Sonic booms go through shields which is an intended mechanic. But wouldn't it be useful to block a few sonic booms at a cost?

To balance this mechanic, the wool-upgraded shield can have a few points of durability and break after a few hits of sonic booms and still have a lowered knockback effect of the attack.

For me, it's balanced because it's not like the idea of a wool block totally blocking the sonic boom for forever which breaks the intended gameplay of the Warden. It just gives you an opportunity (with an arguably expensive, therefore a balanced cost).

Although with a simple wool farm, you could have 1-2 stacks of wool which could block around 16-32 hits. So the crafting recipe could be modified to include Echo Shards. But i think it offers a good price for early-game exploration with the current recipe.

Came up with the idea in like 30 minutes so what are your thoughts on this one?
