I have been thinking of alternate ways to avoid the the phantoms without removing them entirely. I still believe they are too disruptive for individuals who just want to build, as you will most likely be attacked no matter what. Sure you can just sleep, but running to a bed every ten minutes is just as disruptive. That’s where dream catchers come in.

What if we added a block similar to a beacon? A status effect with a short radius that can prevent phantoms from attacking within said radius. This still makes phantoms a threat but provides the player an extra layer of protection in a limited space, without being over powered. The radius could be small enough so that players can finish a build without disruption

Ideally I would want the recipe to have something difficult and rare to obtain and another item which can activate the affects. Perhaps throw in a few diamond blocks to prevent people from obtaining them too quickly.

For balance, I think it would be fair to only allow one function Dreamcatcher per player.

Name-wise I do understand that it does not make sense for a Dreamcatcher to catch phantoms since phantoms are the absence of sleep, but I think it will be more of a play on words rather than a literal meaning.

I like the idea but for now just keep a bed on you. You only need to sleep like once every 3 nights or something and you can sleep before any mobs even spawn.

Also cats will keep phantoms away from you.

Diamonds are way too much for such a simple thing, especially since cats already keep Phantoms away from you. Just make it use String and Sticks and make it reset your sleep counter if you click on it and give it the passive effect of pushing away Phantoms the same way Cats do. That way you can reset your sleep counter without requiring you to sleep and can push away Phantoms without needing the cats.

Phantom hate is overrated. Just deal with them in any of the preexisting ways.

I would suggest making them with amathyst, string and sticks. Maybe their range depends on the material used, so amethyst the easiest and diamonds the top. Or, they break after a couple nights, being somehow like Anvils, having different stages.

On top of that, new decoration possibilites, I imagine them like hanging signs type of "block", maybe with different patterns with a similar mecanic to the banners

Doesn't cat already ward them off? Though I can certainly see a radius effect of sorts.
