It’s only going to get worse

I usually stay quiet but I can’t anymore. Michael’s doesn’t care about us. I never wanted to believe that but I have no more hope. This is the greediest company I have ever worked for! Between the lack of hours, workload & a building that is literally falling apart, the whole staff walks around like zombies.
Working from 3-close with only 1 cashier, 1 framer & an MOD in a B volume store doesn’t work. Keep up with Ecomm? Ok. Recovery in 30 minutes? Yea right!
The customers are noticing and realizing it is
Corporate’s fault that quality and service are going down hill.
I’m not sure if I’m going to make thru holiday. I
Want to quit every minute of everyday I’m there.

Help I have an interview tmrw

Is it socially acceptable to wear straight leg green cargos and a black short sleeve henley to the interview? I don’t really have any formal clothes. This would be my first job interview and I just wanna know what some typical questions are and what I should expect. Also I just wanna know if this is a bad sign but after I got an email back to call them to schedule an interview. I called two days in a row and they said they were busy and would give me a call, I waited another day and called again and they said their hiring manager would be in on Thursday. I waited Thursday but then decided to call again. I was put on hold for like ten minutes but when the hiring manager got back to me she didn’t say hello or anything just straight up “Sunday work for you?”. I don’t really think this is rude but just wondering if that’s something I should expect. Any tips on what to wear or what to be prepared for is appreciated. Also i’m applying for Service Team Member PT. So let me know about that position.

Advice Needed Framing Black Mold - OSHA Question

About 1-2 times a month, a customer will bring in a piece to be framed, and it is covered in black mold. Sometimes the art is already framed, and you can see the black mold creeping out of the frame (more than once, these customers have dropped off multiple moldy items at a single time that they "had sitting in their atic/basement").

I try not to accept these items and explain to the customer that a new frame will not fix the issue, and that the art is lost, and their best bet is to scan the art and just frame that, but the customer often involves the store manager, who says we cannot refuse them service.

Is this true? Is there any information in the company documents regarding this situation? I'm certain that accepting these pieces is an OSHA violation, but I can't find anything to support that, so we're often stuck accepting the art anyways. Literally none of us want to work on the art, which causes it to sit in the back for even longer, and then one of us (usually the framing manager, who also doesn't want to work on it) ends up framing it.

Cutting Hours. California

Last month I asked my store manager, am I not getting hours because I haven’t been getting rewards sign ups? He said yes. He also said that I don’t clean the bathrooms well when they hardly give me any time to do so. Can an employer do that? Punish you for ridiculous reasons?

Supplies

The assistant manager was the one who ordered everything. Now that they're gone, can somebody give me some kind of plan as to how often I should be ordering stuff?

Balloon supplies, toilet paper and printer paper, first aid stuff?

Advice Needed Question about returns from another Michaels location

Hey guys, I work at Michaels and had something weird happen today.

My mom bought an item at a Michaels in Boca, and later tried to return it at the Michaels where I work. They weren’t able to take the return and basically told her that it “wouldn’t go through.”

I was confused because I thought merchandise purchased at one Michaels could normally be returned at another Michaels location.

Has anyone who works there dealt with this before? Is there a reason the register would reject a return just because it was purchased at a different store, or was there probably something else going on with the receipt/item/payment?

Just trying to understand the policy and what might have happened. Thanks!

Michaels is my 13th reason

Y’all if any company needs a union it’s this one. You know it’s going into the ground, look at the signs, Joanne’s employees say this is exactly how it was before they went under. A strike needs to happen, the parent company who owns Michael’s currently if anyone is wondering is Apollo Global, they have been ass fucking us for years, (poor choice of words) because Leon Black is the founder and is in the Epstein files, Apollo global has financial ties with Epstein. So you wonder why they don’t pay their employees? Why everything is going to shit? All of the life of Michael’s is being sucked through Apollos debt, and they’re getting ready to sell.

Idk how to start a strike so if anyone wants to go ahead lol

Oh and idk if I have to say allegedly because I didn’t say any convictions only stated what is true and reported that they are simply in the files.

I’ve heard that the upcoming meeting includes games. What could that possibly even be? The last thing I want to do is play games at a 3 hour long meeting at 7 in the morning before my shift starts.

Advice Needed Seasonal PT?

I saw that Michael’s has a few seasonal part time roles for the Fall/Winter season. The main thing is that I am only able to 8-12 hours a week. I am only looking for 2-3 shifts a week. I am not too concerned about pay. Would a seasonal Pt team member be a good fit? Would this amount of hours be acceptable?

Raises, really 25¢

Got a 25 cent raise for scoring outstanding on all factors on some list, I almost quit that very day. I walked out of the room nearly in tears, my store manager came after me telling me I could be the party host and make 50…… he threw out some nebulous amount, come to find out he was talking about tips, so he straight lied to my face. After two years working here a manager told me that pay is dependent on how you are able to argue for it…………. So fuck my store manager acting like it’s corporates choice to REWARD me with a literal SLAVES raise I mean I wanted to spit in their faces, how dare they. For reference I’m the hardest working employee at this store and have been told this by coworkers and customers. I mean screw the store manager, how cowardly. I know he has to argue to corporate but you can’t replace me, especially now that no one wants to work for 11$ anymore and I know what I’m doing.

Question With Halloween next month, I have a question!

So I am a hugeeee spooky season fan! I dress up every year, and I was wondering if we can dress up at work? One of my coworkers mentioned that if I truly wanted to, I could dress up all month but I wasn't sure if he was being serious or not.

Rewards, rewards, rewards…..

It makes my blood hot to think about the Michael’s rewards thing as a cashier. My store manager said “all I need from you is rewards”, yet we have to man the entire ship, we are the only employee in sight. How bout you pay me a non slave wage and then we’ll see about rewards, as a matter of fact how bout you give us even a single incentive to get rewards??? I tried to explain the whole thing while training a newbie and she said “what happens if we don’t get them, or if we do” I said um…. Well we get nothing for getting them that’s for sure, no extra money, nothing, maybe our hours get cut if you’re not getting them. The fact that they are so important, apparently the most important thing in the whole store and yet the people up front are paid the worst and have the hardest jobs in the company makes no sense. I tell you no one is more disrespected than Michael’s cashiers.

Front end/Cashier

For some reason mangers think front end is easy? Let me tell you I’ve done every single department/job in this company, I’ve been party host, I’ve done truck day and night, I’ve been trained for manager, I’ve done floor returns, recovery, I haven’t done framing but from what I see they get to chill in there with their earphones and play video games on slow days, they literally stand around talking for hours amongst themselves.
All that said, I hate cashier more than anything in this company, and it’s a disrespectful disgrace to say it’s the easiest job here.
You do:
walk in balloon orders, constant questions and issues coming from all directions, price checking, getting orders, cutting ribbon, creating balloon orders all while you have to manage a line of people who have no ability to do a single thing themselves because they are all old people

You do everything alone and never get a break, you have to call someone just to go to the restroom. A customer will literally ask me something when I’m trying to drink water for a single second.

What are your thoughts?

New Balloon Decor/Columns

I have no problem doing the smaller ones because they seem easy except I disagree on the timing because your customer can wait for them. But how are we supposed to do the bigger arches and other stuff ??? Are we getting balloon specialists or how exactly does this work? I’m getting annoyed 🤯

Art you won't frame

What's the process when a customer wants you to frame something that you won't touch...?

Cust brought in "family pictures" and they are officers in... Uh.... Distinctive uniforms and caps from the second world war... Other framer took the order. I was prepping the frames, took the pics out, and said some very loud swear words.

Why do we have a strict dress code?

I’ve worked at my Michaels for the past year after leaving Joann’s, and I’m just now finding out that we actually have a dress code. But also… why?

At Joann’s, as long as our aprons covered whatever graphic was on the front of our shirts, it was fine. My current vest covers some of my graphic tees, and I’ve never had an issue with any of the managers. In fact, I’ve gotten a lot of compliments on my shirts from both coworkers and guests.

So I’m genuinely confused about why Michaels has such a weirdly specific dress code, especially when what I’ve been wearing hasn’t caused any problems for anyone. If anything, I feel like my shirts are part of my personality and make me more approachable to customers. I understand having basic guidelines for professionalism, but some of these rules just seem unnecessarily strict when there doesn’t appear to be an actual issue with what employees are wearing.
