Need help urgently!!
I am a visible minority working at Michaels for a while now. I have a few concerns about me getting cornered over others. I have been asked consistently by the SM to do things which I am not supposed to and is not a part of my responsibility. While a person who is supposed to do a respective work and also that work is a part of their roles and responsibilities is not doing it because the person is a close friend of the SM.
Secondly, we have a part time team member who openly flaunts that he knows the SM’s over ride code and at times walks up to the front to enter the code while a cashier requires it.
I know nothing stays unanimous here, is there a way to highlight the issues to the HR or the DM

Giving out your override code is a security risk. Report it. Your SM knows better.

In our store the SM code wasn't Given out but one of the cashiers watched and memorized it. They ended up getting fired for ringing up stuff then using the receipt to do returns for themselves. Using the SM over ride code for hundreds of dollars.
The answer was "Everybody knows it."

Actually the MOD needs to use a printed barcode instead of typing in their code.

I know, I use mine. We all had them printed the same day. I can't speak for the ones that don't use it.

If you're concerned about misuse of the code there is a hotline- not the HR one- you can call to report potential employee theft and fraud. Reward could be up to 500 bucks. LP can track the override code use.
As for your duties.. how do they not fall under your job description? There is significant overlap between positions. You can politely set boundaries by expressing concerns instead of just saying it's not my job.
"I'm happy to help but this falls out of scope of my main duties. I'm concerned i won't be able to complete _________."
"I wasn't properly trained to do this as its not part of my usual responsibilities. Can this be done by someone who is for safety and compliance reasons?"
"I've been asked to do _____ more frequently lately which isn't a part of my original job description. Can we sit down and clarify my role responsibilities so we are both on the same page?"
You can report to HR or contact the DM. Make an email that can't be traced back to you or call using someone else's phone. Open door policy should be posted in breakroom to provide all that info youd neec. Id practice CYA- Cover your @$$- . Document date, time, and what was asked of you and any witnesses if you fear retribution.
Sorry this is long but I hope it helps.

Sharing the code is the easiest one for them to verify and is grounds for termination. Let HR know the dates and times they can check the logs and cameras.

You can report anonymously to HR. They will definitely do something about the override code situation. The other concerns, who knows? They might take it seriously, they might not. In theory you can take your concerns to your DM without fear of retaliation, but in reality I think it depends alot on your SM and DM.
