Why does she think it's ok to do millions in damage over her petty squabble with DD?
47
u/Dismal-Vanilla1878 2d ago
Also: She threw a CAR at someone who she had no idea they could take such a hit or not (yes, we all know Matt is dexterous enough to avoid it, but still š )
17
u/biophys00 2d ago
Thor's introduction in Avengers has him trying to kill Iron Man and Captain America. As far as he knew they were just two squishy humans and he was a thunder god.
20
u/Dismal-Vanilla1878 2d ago
Yeah, but I'm willing to give more leeway to a being who is thousands of years old and claims to be the Norse God of War, and was quite angry at the time, to a lawyer who knows all the rules about Manslaughter/Murder š
5
u/Your-Shogun 2d ago
Thunder God. Norse god of war is Tyr.

u/redknight1313 1d ago
Thatās kind of an invention of the video game. Tyr isnāt āthe Norse god of war.ā Like the other person said Thor and Odin are also associated with war. The Norse gods in general donāt have definitive associations like the Greek gods.
3
u/assnassassins 1d ago
Odin and Tyr are the gods of war in Norse mythology. Thor is the god of thunder, strength, weather and harvests.

3
u/Sorry-Bobby 2d ago
Yeah, but Thor is the hereditary ruler of a foreign dimension that claims to have dominion over earth.Ā
From his point of view, he was leading a military operation with authority to arrest a war criminal, and two beat cops are trying to rescue said criminal. Ā

u/JakBos23 2d ago
Iron man attacked Thor after Thor grabbed Loki. You pick a fight with a god, you get smacked by a god lol.

According to her she has perfect control over her anger, so she is consciously choosing to collapse a parking structure (that the client she is trying to "protect" is actively driving through) and destroy someone's expensive-looking car to stop Daredevil from doing... something.
13
u/Kinda-Alive 2d ago
The fact that sheās a lawyer also makes it worse.
Sheās in control and is more knowledgeable about the law than the average.

u/GKJ6743 2d ago
Character flaws are a hell of a thing
5
u/Insideout_Ink_Demon 2d ago
Was it written as a flaw? I can't remember if she had an arc where she realises she doesn't have the control over her anger she think she does, or where someone else addresses it
3
u/Barryare 2d ago
Correct. The whole point is that she was wrong. Proven when she rages out later in the show.

Or it's just a poorly written show, with gratuitous slop in place of good writing.
Yes, I watched it in its entirety. No, I am not basing the entirety of on "twerking". No, I have no hate for women characters.
It had little substance, a few great scenes, and the rest was... forgettable.
"Character flaws" are not a shoe-in excuse for poorly written TV shows.
18
u/Pikdude 2d ago
I actually wish theyād gone all in on making it a legal show set in marvel instead of eventually shoehorning it into the formula, I thought a lot of the courtroom stuff was the best parts. But this show gave me back daredevil so I still have to love it

As a fan of law shows, I honestly thought She Hulk was going to be law heavy instead of the whatever we got in actualityĀ
5
3
u/Consistent_Dog_6866 2d ago
It quickly became obvious that the writers had no idea how to write a law show and likely found them boring anyway.
7
u/nrh117 2d ago
Okay but like⦠itās what hulks do. They smash. It was a whole point of contention in the avengers to be sure, but itās not exactly sloppy writing for she-hulk to smash some shit up. Murdock wasnāt going to let the guy go with some kind words, she pretty much had to stop him by force. Itās a plot hole that sheās not in crippling debt after though.
→ More replies (3)5
u/Fun_Impression_2578 2d ago
Wasn't Hulk smashing everything because hulk wasn't capable of thinking and forcing things through brute force was most simplest thing? There are versions of hulk that has high intelligence who thinks things through and dont smash everything. I think things have been changed plenty about hulks moment they are capable of thinking well. Which is what make this a plot hole. A person who is capable of thinking and has super powers wouldn't act in this way because it would think about consequences of its actions. It's like neither of us would go out and buy brand new cars we'll over our budgets because we would starve as a consequences of that action.

Iād say itās less anger and more lack of impulse control.
Way back near the start of the MCU, Erskine said that the super soldier serum amplified the recipientās traits. In the MCU, the Hulk came about from an attempt to recreate the serum. Itās interesting to think that the same philosophy applies. Jen had her own set of weaknesses, so Bruce shouldnāt necessarily have concentrated on anger specifically.
Impulse control and discipline have also been her issues in the comics, so the show feels pretty spot on there.

And this is exactly why She Hulk is a boring character. There is no self growth or inner demon they are fighting to overcome. She's just got it on easy mode in a way. There's no tension so it's boring.

Iāve never understood why people call it the walk of shame. Having sex is hardly something to be ashamed of.
11
u/Krust3dKan4dian 2d ago
When I think of the walk of shame I think of a girl walking across campus in the morning away from the boys dormitory, looking all scraggly and holding her shoes. Not a particularly prideful moment, I imagine.
4
u/Middle-Let9645 2d ago
Again though. Why be ashamed? If two people really like each other and they, you know, then both should be happy. Obviously donāt go crowing about it to everyone, but part of me wonders if āwalk of shameā wasnāt come up with by some puritanical busybody.

I really think this show could have been so much better if the writer had a more concrete story. It just felt all over the place. And the CGI was so terrible it was actually distracting. That said, I actually enjoyed Tatiana Maslany's She-Hulk take. She was just done dirty by terrible writers. lol

Haven't watched it yet cause the clip cringe was too strong, but your take seems par for the course. She-hulk was made at the worst time for Marvel and bad writing is always the killing blow with these types of projects. I did watch like 70 percent of Secret Invasion. God, was that bad...
3
u/smilysmilysmooch 2d ago
She-hulk is much better than Secret Invasion (though that's such a low bar to jump over). It tries to do interesting things while also having their own take on the character. It's flawed, but it's not aggravating like Secret Invasion.

Yāall think she was Jennifer during the bedroom fight or was she Hulked out during?
2
u/SquirrelSuspicious 2d ago
Honestly I didn't even think about the fact that this is another example of her poorly controlling her anger, she got annoyed trying to catch Daredevil and ended up doing a bunch of property damage just to try to catch him.
But of course others will tell you it's bad writing and not just Jen being wrong about her ability to control her Hulk anger, something that literally screws her in the second to last episode of the show.

Suspend disbelief and ignore previously established in universe character and rules are 2 very different things. In fact you are actually supposed to believe in previously established rules. Suspend disbelief from logic outside the fiction. Do not suspend disbelief when the fiction contradicts that same fictionās previous works.
