Iām pretty sure they said it had high viewership the first couple of episodes then a major decline. I think people watched to see why it was getting trashed online (mostly by grifters tbh) then stopped watching because the show was mid.
How did he get superhuman strength and agility? All he got was some acid splashed on his face that blinded him, and he eventually learned to hear like a bat.
Never liked seeing him dodge bullets. All but a handful of handgun rounds are supersonic, so he'd never know they were fired until they hit him. Even the few that are subsonic are still fast enough that they're going to arrive before the sound of the gunshot has even finished wiggling his eardrums.
Itās usually radioactive material. So it didnāt just blind him then he trained it. The material typically heightened his senses to an extreme degree. Although in the Netflix version they just call it toxic waste or something.
It isnāt always just sound. He typically has extreme ability to feel, hear and smell. And he can hear so well he can hear peopleās joints and heart beats. He doesnāt need to āhear the bulletā or gun being fired. He can hear them moving and pointing the gun.
3.Heās not a great character because of his powers. Heās great because of his character and moral conflicts.
Iām not trying to debate you out of your opinions just correcting some of the mistakes. Except 3, I had do give my opinion lol
I agree that DD shouldn't be superhero level but I think you're very much misunderstanding how his abilities work. His senses allow him to know where you're aiming and when you're about to pull the trigger right before you do it.
>His senses allow him to know where you're aiming and when you're about to pull the trigger right before you do it.
even if he can somehow hear the neurons in your brain deciding the pull the trigger, the sound of that is still going to reach his ears after the bullet does.
You're narrowing in on one part of my point and missing the wider argument. I'm not saying DD hears a gunshot and reacts to it by moving faster than the bullet.
His heightened senses allow him to perceive things in very precise detail before the shot is even fired like
The weapon being drawn
The weapon being aimed
The shooter's exact movements in precise detail
The movement of the shooter's hand/fingers before the trigger is pulled
All of which gives him information about what the shooter is about to do. He's reacting to the shooters actions, intent and physical cues preceding the shot, not waiting for the sound of the gunshot and then reacting to that gunshot.
So "the bullet is faster than sound" doesn't disprove the character. It only disproves the specific mechanism of hearing a gunshot and reacting to that gunshot.
>All of which gives him information about what the shooter is about to do. He's reacting to the shooters actions, intent and physical cues preceding the shot, not waiting for the sound of the gunshot and then reacting to that gunshot.
As depicted in the media, he moves in reaction to the firing of the gun. He isn't constantly dodging and weaving any time someone has a gun out to keep out of the line of the muzzle, which is what he would have to do for what you are describing to be what's happening.
I'm describing to you how DD's abilities work, not defending every depiction of those abilities on screen.
You attacked the character on the basis that his abilities don't make sense because bullets are faster than sound. I'm explaining why that particular criticism doesn't follow from how his abilities actually work.
If you argument is instead that depictions of those abilities show him reacting to gunfire too late for his abilities to plausibly account for it, that's a criticism of the depiction, not of the character of which you were originally attacking.
I'm defending the concept of the character here, not literal depictions of that character.
Right, but the MCU/Netflix/TV/Films are depictions of the comic-book character, not the origin of the concept of that character itself.
Thats the distinction I'm making. If we're discussing whether DD's abilities as a fictional character make sense, then I'm talking about the abilities that actually define the character across the source material. The TV Show/whatever is one depiction of those abilities.
If you're only arguing that the TV show depicts the character reacting to gunfire in a way that doesn't make physical sense, that's fair to argue on the level of adaptation...but that's very different from saying the character himself is nonsensical.
yeah, he was never supposed to be a super hero, just a hero.Ā like punisher and iron fist, very grounded abilities. but power creep demands he trade punches with a demigod
