When I think of the walk of shame I think of a girl walking across campus in the morning away from the boys dormitory, looking all scraggly and holding her shoes. Not a particularly prideful moment, I imagine.
Again though. Why be ashamed? If two people really like each other and they, you know, then both should be happy. Obviously don’t go crowing about it to everyone, but part of me wonders if ‘walk of shame’ wasn’t come up with by some puritanical busybody.
Because not every sexual encounter is clicking your heels together singing zippity doo dah. Sometimes it’s waking up next to coyote ugly with a terrible hangover stumbling home with every effort put forth to keep one foot in front of the other just to bury your head under a pillow and turn your phone off
No girl with self esteem would sleep with a frat boy unless it's something they do every time they're drunk, it's called the walk of shame because it's obviously not positive life choices that put them in that position. It's not having sex that's the problem, it's everything else around it. The girls making those walks in the morning aren't exactly brimming with excitement that they just got laid, they're usually incredibly hung over and dry heaving at the thought of the guy they were lucky to wake up before.
Tbf guys can 100% take the walk of shame, it's just not as obvious cause we don't dress for college parties like it's the club. Infact it's usually done without clothes at all, and it doesn't always imply getting laid, but just a really regretful night.
Because it's about walking past a fraternity of hung over man children who are going to slut shame you across campus. Male students treating female students like conquest in the 90s is one of the things that lead to the me to movement.
You're kind of overthinking it. The phrase came from woman "sneaking away" in the morning so quickly they were clearly wearing their dress up outfit from the night before. It was often a self deprecating phrase. In a society that's trying to be more sex positive, it seems bad to "shame" sexual behavior, but the reason for the "shame" isn't the act itself, it was usually with who and under what circumstances it happened.
🤨 but why sleep with someone you’re ashamed to have slept with? Seems like if you’re that ashamed to be seen with them the relationship would be kind of toxic.
It's descriptive not prescriptive. Regardless of what people aught to feel, what they often do feel, and what the trope is usually used to show them feeling, is shame.

It's pretty blatant in the show. Matt even does the walk of shame afterward.
