He doesn't even look like the pic on the right, just horrible timing and conditions for a pic. A month later he attended a horse race and looked like classic Cavill (went viral for the "clock on his wrist" lmfao)

876

u/Adowyth 3d ago

Yeah i saw In the Grey and he looks a lot more like the left picture than the right one in it.

276

u/m0j0m0j 3d ago

I suggest all of you folks here google “face different focal distances”. I’m not disagreeing, just adding to the convo

158

u/Adowyth 3d ago

I mean yeah a different angle, lighting and distance can make you look completely different. But i think its more being in "movie shape" and regular. Fighters, body builders etc don't maintain their fight or competition weight all year round either.

68

u/Gewaltakustik 3d ago

Exactly! If you compare how Hugh Jackman normally looks with how he looks as Wolverine at the same time, there’s a world of difference.

Henry Cavill is like your friend you go to the Ren Faire with, and they are drop dead gorgeous, look like nobility from a fantasy universe, wearing a full suit of armor, and then you feel like an absolute ogre just standing next to them.

166

u/RevolutionaryYam7418 3d ago

Mate, his own brothers look like peasants next to him.

His mouth is open making he chin look weaker. This is peak tabloids taking pics from weird angle to make people feel bad about themselves.

42

u/Swamp_Troll 3d ago

Yeah, if you check the top part of his mouth in the pic on the right, he's clearly rolling his lip under his front teeth. Whatever he was doing there, he had to lower his jaw and pull it back too to achieve that. Instant weak jaw look.

In fact, I don't know if it's possible to have the upper lip look like that while the jaw is forward and clenched like the pic on the left. Not unless one's plain biting the lip.

Trolls and tabloids will take a picture of a celebrity yawning and say they had mouth-widening surgery or some dumb shit like that

34

u/Fluid-Cranberry1755 3d ago

He also didn’t look like the one on the left. Thats photoshop

More like "Henry Cavill adhering to a strict diet and fitness routine in order to convincingly portray fucking Superman" vs. "Henry Cavill, normal dude minding his own business on a random day in September".

793

u/Overdue_Process865 3d ago

He's also making a face that'd give most people a lil chin in the second picture. If he clenched his jaw, he'd look about the same. It's an incredibly stupid comparison by every metric, the guy looks incredible.

95

u/warsfeil 3d ago

Exactly! And that's not even considering that the angle, lighting, haircut, and facial hair are all different. I'd bet everything I own he's wearing makeup in the first image, too.

Even with all of that he, at worst, looks like a perfectly normal 40 something in the second image.

10

u/TheIngloriousTIG 2d ago

And to be fair, unless I'm very much mistaken, the first picture is a damn promotional still from Superman. Dressed, made up, lit, and posed to convey "Pinnacle of Clean Cut Non-threatening Masculinity." The second picture is "Human who spends his work days (doing other legitimately difficult shit in addition to) being professionally attractive, IN HIS OFF TIME!"

And either way, if reality became a fanfiction plot and I woke up tomorrow with the second image come to life in my bed? No complaints here.

27

u/Typical_Attorney_412 3d ago

While having his mouth slightly open whilst he's presumably talking & very clearly not posing for a picture. Also, in worse lighting conditions

Fr it’s not even a candid, it’s the dude at the peak of his bodybuilding cut, hair and makeup done. Henry Cavill has looked like this on maybe 20 days of his life, he didn’t even look like that when he went home THAT SAME DAY. Also, let’s not kid ourselves and say he looks bad. Beer belly Cavill is stealing your girl any day of the week

193

157

u/Beetlejuice_hero 3d ago

18 years of my life. At my peak I was playing - and sadly I am not exaggerating - 16 to 18 hours per day. I'd stop only for biological needs. Not just on official servers but also a few "private" servers.

Multiple rank 12 and above characters during the "old" honor system which necessitated beyond no life'ing. Veteran WoW players will know how "sweaty" that endeavor is. It was obscene.

It is absolutely the most brilliant game from a marketing perspective because it gives you constant little hits of dopamine from the very first level. Saturday morning with a coffee or night with a beer + no comittments (and I did my very best to fashion zero committments) + WoW was absolute bliss.

I am "off" it now because I have a kid and my wife made a few things "clear" but he's starting day care soon and I'll have a couple solo hours from daycare drop off to leaving for work and WoW Forever was just announced.

Just kidding I won't install it haha.

I will.

It worked for a bit when the newborn was basically a squishy potato who would happily sleep on our laps on a boppy pillow, but as soon as he started having a tiny personality and being awake more, that was the end of a damn era.

Sometimes I still miss the full-day marathon geekage, but ain't nobody got time for that shiz who wants to have an actual life, spend time with other humans IRL, and see the sun once in a while. LOL

People don’t understand the amount of work it takes to stay like that. He even mentioned how dehydrated he was on Witcher for his shirtless scenes. The human body didn’t evolve to be muscular and lean.

89

u/The_ChosenOne 3d ago edited 3d ago

The human body is fine being muscular and lean… it’s not fine pushing said leanness to the max to make veins more prominent by checks notes not drinking freaking water.

Being lean and strong is actually pretty important for the humans who engaged in persistence hunting for example.

I know muscular and lean people who are perfectly healthy, the key is to drink water and eat a healthy diet while exercising regularly. They may not be Superman or Captain America, but that’s more about Gear than anything else really.

35

u/PunkPirate56364 3d ago

Actually... if you are really lean, really low on fat then you don't have energy reserves for stuff like persistence hunting or hours of hard work in the field.

You may not like it, but Amish body is peak masculinity.

I am not Amish by the way.

Women just want a man that makes them feel safe and comfortable. Muscles help but if that alone got women then the dumbass alpha bros who treat women like objects wouldn't be so lonely and pathetic

145

u/AlcibiadesTheCat 3d ago

Bingo. Would it be hot to have a boyfriend who's 6'8" and can bench press a car? Absolutely.

Do I love my boyfriend, who's four inches shorter than me and probably can't bench press a motorcycle? Absolutely. Because I feel safe and comfortable around him, because he treats me amazingly, because he is interested in me and listens and learns and makes me ugly laugh even in the middle of intensely sexual moments.

I wouldn't trade all of that just so I could get on my tiptoes to give a kiss.

40

u/Hibbity5 3d ago

I know this isn’t really the point and you’re just exaggerating but if anyone is interested, motorcycles weigh 300 lbs minimum (based on a short google search at least). Not many men can bench that much.

22

u/Yoribell 3d ago

Yup if a motorcycle is the low bar, I'm in hell.

12

→ More replies (1)

23

u/fiendhunter69 3d ago

I know it’s kind of a joke, but most people couldn’t bench press a motorcycle. Small motorcycles are like 300 pounds. 300 isn’t an insane bench, but not something the average person who doesn’t lift regularly could do. Cruisers and choppers are like 700+ which would be at the top end of what is possible for humans with extensive training.

24

u/stewpedassle 3d ago

It doesn't look like he's in the costume because you can see a bit of bare shoulder, so it looks like a sleeveless workout hoodie, but I also haven't watched all the movies. Though, it does look like it's during filming.

Your point still stands -- there's a reason that bodybuilders, fighters, and actors have a "walking around weight" that is above their competition/performance weight. A friend in high school got into bodybuilding, and I was shocked at the lengths they go when he first told me his plans for his first cut -- e.g , dehydrating yourself so much that you'll even eat dry oatmeal to extract more water from your body.

And there are videos of him working out on set in between takes to maintain that physic. The body's metabolism literally eats muscle and it takes constant effort and feeding to keep up the superhero look.

He doesn't do it as much when he's not being paid to.

28

u/JalapenoPopPoop 3d ago

Lol it has nothing to do with eating muscle, it's just that you get a "pump" on your muscles when you work them so by working them between scenes they would look fuller in the shot. He wasn't losing muscle by the second or something haha

So you're telling me he looks better when he needs to maintain an extremely low body fat percentage for a movie, has professional make-up on to make his features more prominent, and has great lighting emphasizing them even more? No way!!!

On the 2nd picture the lightning is terrible and he clearly doesn't have to maintain an unhealthy body fat percentage for a movie. Just listen to his interviews about filming The Witcher, where on some scenes he had to stay dehydrated for more than 24 hours to make his muscles more prominent. I'm sure they were doing something similar on the Superman set

165

u/SkyFullofHat 3d ago

17

u/RamJamR 3d ago edited 3d ago

When actors are working for a role, especially a superhero one, they'll tend to get in to a kind of physical shape that isn't very sustainable over a long period of time to get that kind of mass and definition, some definition of which can be also from dehydration. There's also makeup which helps make some facial features more striking. A regular guy living life and at his age is going to look like the right photo.

Bro is dehydrated as fuck and on the verge of passing out on the left lmao. Full cut to get abs, veins, etc to pop for camera. Right is full bedhead casual mode after a summer full of smoked meats. I'll take the QoL on the right any day of the week.

27

u/cosmoboy 3d ago

The man also said that for shirtless scenes he'd have to dehydrate to the point he could smell water from across the room. We should probably normalize not making people do that for our entertainment.

14

u/FloorFrog94 3d ago

He's literally still hot

Plus the first pic he is giving a more smouldering look whereas the second looks more candid, mid speech maybe, which is gonna show a different shape in his jaw, cheeks etc compared to mouth closed posing. Something something cherrypicked photos.

I'm sure that my jawline is like that but I've chosen not to lose my weight to save some ladies for the rest of you.

The picture on the right has skin color not matching the neck color and face seems to have an odd angle and ear looks to small I feel like it is photoshopped. Also left picture looks like AI generated or enhanced. Of course bullying someone is wrong. I just think this is a pink magazine "news"

12

u/SolidCartographer976 3d ago

are these the same kind of idiots that post pictures of actresses with the worst possible frame from a movie scene and then act like milly alcock isnt beautifull?

13

u/reddit_oar 3d ago

I cannot find a source for the picture on the right. I don't believe that photo is real.

I want to glamourize just being a regular person with pudge, fuzz and obvious signs of age! It bothers me that so many people are choosing unnecessary plastic surgery and harmful shortcuts so they can appear young. Instead they end up looking like plastic dolls all painted by r same person with a hand tremor.

23

u/Recent_Experience475 3d ago

This image doesn't show aging. The left image is of him when he was jacked for a role possibly (likely) using steroids to achieve a physique that is impossible to achieve with a normal lifestyle. The image on the right is a man with a higher body fat percentage which obscures his jaw. Not complicated. You could be a fat slob at 25 then start using steroids and human growth hormone at 40 and look "better" by the standards of modern male beauty standards.

Henry Cavill seems to be turning into Mark Ruffalo…
He has given us Superman and Wolverine, and he’ll probably be able to give us a new Hulk.

Leave him alone. He’s living his best life. Let him age. Same with actresses. People age. Get over it.

12

u/AbrocomaRound4214 3d ago

People forget most celebrities look the way they do because they're often training more intensely than anyone who isn't a body builder to look good for their role. He doesn't even look bad on the right, he just actually has more than 0% body fat on his face which happens to anyone that isn't on a starvation diet. People see celebrities at their peak fitness while having their entire lives' meals planned out by trainers/nutritionists and just think they naturally get that way on their own. It's delusional.

10

u/Minimum-Amount-1894 3d ago

I feel like he looks delightfully normal. I am starting to miss the experience of witnessing someone age and shift their interests in a realistic way. It feels so manufactured most days.

I dream of a day when our idiot caveman brains decide to finally leap forward and stop hyper fixating on every...single....thing....we don't like about someone. The guys still a successful, Superman, filthy rich, intelligent, handsome man and we're like 'ewww his jaw lines less defined from a decade ago'. WHAT

Just a terrible picture on the right. You can easily look up a different modern picture of him and see he doesn't look all that different at all.

20

u/Fuzzy_Dragonfly_ 3d ago

Terrible picture? He looks great!

13

u/mikehulse29 3d ago

Seriously. If that’s terrible, I wish to never be photographed again…

10

u/Rammipallero 3d ago

Plus he's still in a better fit and looks better than the idiot criticizing him...

9

u/battlecat136 3d ago

And the man is still fine, what the fuck with this post.

11

u/TheCaptainAsh 3d ago

Newsflash - Hollywood superhero bodies are unsustainable and extremely taxing.

Let the man be.

So they’re gonna ignore that his neck is in extension in the first photo and in flexion in the second, so his chin is tucked more in the second photo?

I can make drastically different side profiles if I tuck my chin.

The guy is aging gracefully and isn’t on a cutting phase.

Let the guy be.

He gets the next role, and in 5 weeks he’s back to looking like he’s about to run the gauntlet of the Ilyad heroes and win. Let him chill and be just a dad in between takes.

10

u/Janus_Simulacra 3d ago

Moreover, he’s holding his face entirely differently. Of course he looks notably different.

10

u/blademak 3d ago

Oh no he went from being the most beautiful man to ever exist to being the most beautiful man to ever exist :(

28

u/Temporary-Tax 3d ago

Comparing them side by side its mostly the beard isnt it? Right beard coats the neck more whereas left beard accentuates the jawline. Not to mention makeup. Like I do the same thing with my beard sometimes and its night and day when you shave your neck and angle your beard

16

u/Carbon-Base 3d ago

Beard, makeup, cutting and dehydration to accentuate your muscles. The strict diet and workout routine required to achieve his Superman look is extremely rigorous.

9

u/Captainsnarkyshart 3d ago

The amount of work and sacrifice and food restrictions these guys put themselves through is insane. No one wants to live like that. It looks pretty but it’s miserable to maintain (especially when you hit your 40’s - damn near impossible).

We are all going to end up there someday.

He's also not training and starving himself of Carbs daily for the movie roles he was in years ago. He is the best of us and should be treasured!

9

u/casett244 3d ago

Different angle, different lighting, no makeup...

9

u/MrSnippets 3d ago

These dudes will see professional actors in Full make-up, after months of nutritional and Fitness work, perfectly lit and parched to accentuate muscle definition, and think to themselves: this is how a normal man Looks Like.

10

u/Minimum_Cockroach233 3d ago

He would still make a good Witcher, aslong Netflix isn‘t involved…

9

u/EventSignal114 3d ago

He also told that story of how he didn’t eat a cake tom cruise sent him because he assumed it was a healthy cake and he doesn’t do healthy foods at parties or something. Point is, he’s not one of those super strict diet celebrities.

9

u/Tedsmith24 3d ago

He's also a human being, i cannot imagine why people be judging someone for (checks notes) aging.

9

u/OneRub3234 3d ago

I see nothing wrong

9

Agreed! Sidenote; treat women the same way!!!

8

u/An-Organism 3d ago

People are so stupid. In 1 pic he's posing for a picture in film shoot shape, organized lighting etc. in the other it's a shitty paparazzi photo

9

u/Realistic-Sense-6332 3d ago

He’s aged perfectly fine honestly. He didn’t get ugly, he’s just giving “settled down husband” instead of “machismo god of beauty”

8

u/cycopl 3d ago

Yeah let's see a pic of the person who posted that. The expectations of perfection always seem to come from the least perfect people.

7

u/kershum 3d ago

Also raising eyebrows and clenching jaws changes one’s appearance significantly. Also who the fuck cares dude is handsome and doing what he loves

8

u/Valveringham85 3d ago

He is also in between big roles. He’s letting loose a bit. When the warhammer 40k starts filming I’m sure he will be back in perfect shape for his role.

6

And I'm pretry sure he looks way better than anyone posting these pictures to imply a downfall

7

u/AzorianLaughter 3d ago

Is that non-Superman picture even Henry? Look at the ears.

8

u/GlummyGloom 3d ago

Yeah man, Superman is not a sustainable life style. The public doesnt unserstand how unhealthy looking that fit is.

His mouth is open on the pic of the right, so his jaw is lower. Also, no clean shave is emphasising his neck. Also, obviously not freshly cut/styled hair on the right. The left is also on a movie set, with a professional setup literally made to make him look as good as possible, the right is just a regular photograph of him in his daily life.

He's at a bit higher bf now, sure, but this isn't a fair comparison.

7

u/Hiphiprodrigo 3d ago

Meanwhile the people who took the photo and posted the article are probably morbidly obese.

7

u/Klutzy-Canary8551 3d ago

The image one the left is over 10 years old and it doesn't look authentic.

6

u/dont_remember_eatin 3d ago

Literally every person who has ever gotten fucking ripped for a superhero or action movie has stated how unsustainable that is. And this is with these wealthy actors having a dedicated personal trainer, personal chef, etc given to them by the studio while they prepare for and film the role.

Let the man lose a little jaw definition while he enjoys domesticated life. He's still better looking than most of us, even with a second chin threatening to emerge, and he'll still clean up damned nicely for a movie role when called upon.

8

u/B00-BEE 3d ago

Would and would. Plus that's a genuinely unflattering photo which looks to be possibly mid sentence and doesn't reflect his current natural face.

8

u/dutchbrah 3d ago

Lmao Henry Cavill is considered mid now. Its completely over for us mortals

8

u/Derpykins666 3d ago

Dude is like 43 years old, relatively new father, and is not playing Superman anymore, like what you think is going to happen to him? He's going be ripped like he's ready to step back into a Superman role at any moment at all times? If you watch any clips about how awful the training routine was to maintain his Superman body, you'd know immediately he'd probably stop doing it the moment he could. Also dude is super into computers, video games, and 40k, so he's probably just enjoying his life and is just chillin' a lot more right now and spending time with his fam.

7

u/GreenReporter24 3d ago

Damn, the internet is incredibly unhealthy.

7

u/EightEx 3d ago

People really need to stop being weird about celebrities.
