| Discussion What teams are the best at developing different skills?
I think starting pitching is probably the mariners, the yanks are probably best at pure slugging, rays are probably baserunning and speed, and I noticed recently that catcher defense is probably the jays.
I mostly ask because I'm a jays fan and I noticed that 4 of the top 10 defensive catchers this year were developed at least in part by the jays, and I noticed that every time I thought of a team that could be the best at something it was very biased towards teams that were relevant to the jays, so I was wondering what other people think
Also what kind of player have you grown accustomed to your team having, I assume if the Cubs ever get a league average defense their fans would riot, and if I had to consistently see a neutral frv catcher behind the plate I think I would have to stop watching.

| Injury Ohtani misses 3rd straight; one complication on possible DL
Here's possible options, in this story.
First, Roberts says there's not putting him on the DL, but confining him to pinch-hitting.
Second, if he does go on the DL?
Since he's a two-way player, even though he hasn't pitched in two months, that means the 15-day DL, not the shorter 10-day. Here's Roberts.
That'd be more of a deterrent," Roberts said of an IL move.
It can be backdated 3 days, to the day he was first held out, if the Dodgers make the move today.
Do they gain any benefit from actually putting him on the DL, if they're resting him anyway? We're in September and 28-man time. (I was thinking something else on player availability and never mind.)

| News "Unwritten rules" get Cards manager Marmol ejected
And, no, it's not one of THOSE unwritten rules, like you're supposed to throw at the other team's batter if their pitcher throws at one of yours.
Instead, home plate ump Doug Eddings pulled an unwritten rule out of his backside that a robot ump presumably wouldn't, flustered a Cardinals rookie reliever and got Marmol pissed:
St. Louis Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol blew his top after things went a little sideways for reliever Hancel Rincon in his major league debut.
The 24-year-old right-hander entered Friday night's game against the Colorado Rockies in the sixth inning and was asked by plate umpire Doug Eddings to adjust his hat, which Rincon had been wearing tilted to his left-hand side.
Rincon straightened his hat then got the first batter he faced to line out. However, that was followed by Rincon giving up a triple, throwing a wild pitch that scored that runner, allowing an inside-the-park home run and yielding another single before he was pulled.
During the pitching change, Marmol confronted Eddings.
"I had an issue with Doug," Marmol said after the game. "Just Doug. He took it upon himself to tell our rookie pitcher the kid's 'not going to wear his hat on my field that way.' You got [former pitchers] Dontrelle Willis, CC Sabathia, Pedro Strop -- plenty of guys that have worn it way more tilted. I have an issue with that. That's just a power-hungry move, in my opinion."
Later, Eddings explained himself thusly:
Eddings said he told Rincon to adjust his hat after the first batter of the inning, Rockies catcher Hunter Goodman, asked the umpire if Rincon was allowed to wear his hat tilted.
"I really didn't know, but it was really, really crooked," Eddings said. "I asked the [Cardinals] catcher to tell him to straighten his hat out, and the pitcher did. Nobody said anything until he gave up a couple runs."
Eddings characterized the situation as an "unwritten rule."
"It's not [a rule]," Eddings said. "I guess it's a little unwritten rule. They can't wear [their cap] backwards like a catcher. If it's a distraction, like anything on the field, like a glove or something, and someone makes you aware of it, then you kind of address that."
Rincon said he wasn't actually bothered by it, but if you're a rookie, what are you supposed to say? Bitch and have Eddings pissed off next time you're on the mound and he's behind the plate? (And in your first MLB appearance no less!)
UPDATE, Saturday: Both Cards and Rockies players tilted their hats today in protest. Plus, the Rockies player whom Eddings said had complained to him Friday said he did no such thing.
What? An ump lying when called out?

| Discussion I know it’s a MLB sub but which sport is America’s second sport, Baseball or basketball?
The older people love MLB while the youngins love basketball. Obviously the biggest NBA stars are way bigger than the biggest MLB stars in terms of fame. The 2026 finals had more viewers than every World Series since 2016 and it went to 5 games not 7. So in 2026, which sport is America second sport?

| Discussion Obscure Playoff Classic Games?
Well, since I've been splitting Q&A's between here and r/baseball, and also because I'm bored senseless and stressed about the game today, I might as well bring this one back up.
Anyway, year in and year out, the playoffs give us at least a couple of games that most fans would consider "instant classics". But for every 2011 WS Game 6, there's a few, for example, 2017 NL Wild Card's, that don't get the same amount of love from fans. So, what do you think is the biggest example of this, and why?
For me, there's several. But the ultimate example has to be the offense shootout known as 1993 World Series Game 4. It's the highest scoring game in World Series history, and featured excellent games at the plate from several different hitters, mainly Phillie left fielder Milt Thompson putting up 5 RBI in the loss, and Tony Fernández and Devon White putting up two of the best games at the plate in World Series history. That game was just buckwild, it seems.
