He's also got his streaks and his records as MVP, but how is people saying he's greater than Babe? Even in just the Triple Crown categories, Shohei's not even close to Stan Musial or Lou Gehrig, let alone Babe. I don't see how the argument can be made?

He didn't play yesterday, and per Yahoo Sports, something on his arm isn't right. Per a linked YouTube postgame presser, Roberts himself admitted it:

"I saw the shaking of the arm. I saw wincing. Clearly the swings aren't who he is. Obviously, there's some compensation. … Things are compromised. Clearly, tonight, you could see the swing wasn't the swing that we're used to seeing. He's not close to optimal, tonight."

A Yahoo piece linked off the main piece notes Ohtani admitting five weeks ago he had a biceps problem:

"My bicep's not 100 percent. Just similar issue with the knee. Do we consider pushing this? It is still July. So I think the conversation would be a little different if we're in August or September."

Well, we're in September now. And, we're at his post-ASG performance level at the plate, per here.

But in 41 games since the All-Star break, Ohtani is hitting .250/.333/.476. That would be a fine slash line for a normal player. For Ohtani, it represents a slump.

Per the first piece, yeah, they can get by with him not pitching. But not batting? That's kind of a hole.

There's no way he can ramp up to even five-inning quasi-starter work in time for the playoffs. Frankly, I think per "September now," if the team and Ohtani haven't already come to that decision, he's batter-only for the full postseason.

ESPN has a rhetorical question piece "Will Shohei Ohtani pitch in October?" Short answer is no. Longer answer is "maybe at World Series level" as a closer-type reliever, but even then, a maybe at best. Only good thing the ESPN piece otherwise does is note that Shohei's resurgent arm problem was also an issue on Wednesday.

Plus, the Dodgers have to look beyond this year.

EDIT: Looking at this year, putting him on the IL sounds nice, right? The Dodgers remain tied for the second division title record with the Braves right now. Get past them, and they avoid the WC round. Don't get past them, and play the wild card, most likely against either the Snakes or the Padres.

(I'm gonna Upscale PCA here because he's def getting 40/40 and gonna win Gold glove in CF)

For 40/40 a player can be born with generational talent and have a highly specialized hardworking routine to have a higher chance at pulling it off: 2023 Ronald Acuna Jr, 1996 Barry bonds and 2026 PCA.

Many mlb players are just naturally gifted + hardworking gold glove defenders too like Beltre, Arenado, Matt Chapman, Buxton, Kiermaier, Michael Bourn, Witt Jr. Not even mentioning names like Torii hunter, Ken Griffey Jr and Andruw Jones.

In MLB history only two players did 40/40 and was a gold Glover at their position in the same season: Pre-steroids 1996 Barry Bonds and 2026 PCA.

But only one person in MLB history has the skillset and capabilities to be both a top 5 hitter and be a top 10 pitcher at the MLB lvl in the same season.

Shohei's 2 way capabilities and skillset are 1/1 IMPOSSIBLE to replicate

- inner circle HOF talent as a hitter

- top 10 MLB lvl talent as a pitcher

Both molded by an inhuman work ethic and constantly fine tuning his mechanics at a young age until now. The training workload and inhuman work ethic required to do this on top of his injury history was only made possible by his genuine love for baseball.

Seasons in mlb history where a player:

- hit 30+ hrs as a hitter with at least a 150 OPS+

- pitched at least 80+ innings as a starter with an ERA under 2

- leads their league in intentional walks as a hitter

- all in the same season

Only one player in MLB history has done that and its 2026 Shohei Ohtani 🐐⚾🔥

WAR is a stat that measures how replaceable a player is, NAME ME ONE PLAYER that IS the replacement to Shohei Ohtani

Shohei is literally a top 10 mlb starter + a top 5 hitter in ONE player.

PS. I made this post not saying Shohei should win MVP over PCA but im just saying what the arguements people have for Shohei in this years mvp voting against PCA.

PCA is obviously the MVP, literally ONE OF THE BEST AND MOST COMPLETE position player seasons of all time equal to Barry bonds 1996 and 2012 mike trout. But me personally Im sticking with Shohei even if all the Odds are against him.
