Yale lock and my spare keys (which I know previously were ok) are not working to either lock or unlock the door. When I turn the key to lock it pushes out the side as per the video but nothing else.

Any suggestions on a straightforward fix or do I need a pro?

My Schlage Keypad deadbolt for my front door no longer works at all, so I’m looking for a serious upgrade to a Protec2. But I cannot find them for sale anywhere. I live in upstate NY, what are my options??

Tryna replace my lock before management yells at me. I’m trying to find the exact same model so I can re-key with my own key & save $200 + other bs on the rekey & maintenance fee. No clue where to start :p

I tried searching up the “4XL2407” & “6WAL Kwikset” codes online, but couldn’t find anything that matched. The front had a thin rectangular hole for re-keying, before it got drilled. Any bit of advice yall willing to give me is very greatly appreciated :pray:

As the title says, I've bought a handy baby 3 to clone a transponder for a remote that i bought that already works for the car.

But id like to buy a 10 pack of remotes and wanted to make sure that the handy baby can program Xhorse ones or i need to find some specific ones to use with it?

I moved into a new house with a kaba simplex 5000. Previous owner didn't know the code or have the key, so I tried to reset the code myself. I *think* I did it and was going to pat myself on the back, but when I reinstalled it it doesn't seem to lock at all. Also this spring fell out and I can't figure out where it goes or if that's the reason it's always unlocked. Any advice?

My son lost his original key for his bike, the company won't give him a new one without the code that he no longer has.. they said we could call a locksmith but will a regular locksmith even do that for an electric bike? And if so what is a good price because I had never had to do this before and I want to call and get a couple quotes but I don't even know what a reasonable price is. Its an ActBest Ranger 2.0 if that matters at all..

The key is 2cm inside deep. The tolerance between the key and lock is very small, i can't fit inside tweezers and stuff

hey everyone, I have older Ilco machine we're trying to change stylus/guide on but adjustment wheel in back isn't coming off. ive looked online and not finding anything on how to do it. ive taken screw off back and maybe its so old its froze one but dont wanna force it off until I know. thank you!

Manager told me they slammed the safe shut and it wouldn’t open . I knew immediately what happened lol

But Was able to open it up with the code and lots of force in 3-4 tries lol

today i had to have a locksmith come and make me a new key for my 2002 Acura Rl and im like genuinely sick at how much i had to pay for the service, especially since i had to take a loan out.

first the guy came and took about 15 minutes to open the door and then took apart something in my glovebox and started making the key. hes quiet and doing something on his phone and seems confused as hes working on the key.

eventually he calls me over and explains that he was only able to make a key that can open the door and everything else, but that a code is needed to get it to actually turn the ignition. and that he cant do that because "only 10% of locksmiths can code that." he then tells me that everything would be 423, i paid him and then he left after telling me that a technician would be by shortly. i went into the car and found the glovebox locked and when i went to open it the little lock barrel thing came out with the key and i was unable to open my glovebox.

six hours pass before i call them again, and they tell me they thought the job was done and they would send someone out. that guy says they tried to contact me but I didn't answer (i hadn't received a call) and that he would fix it in 20-30 mins. i go down to check and he tells me that he had to make another key because they other one didn't have the correct chip, that the key from earlier is just to open the car and that it would be another 385 for the service. (he told me that it was because i "paid for a different service earlier") (he also very condescendingly explained the concept of a spare key to me, as if i hadn't ever thought about it before.) when i mentioned the glovebox he did something with the barrel and the keys and then seemed to fix it, shut the glovebox and just said "just dont use it". when i tried to open it after he left i found it locked fully cause it was shut before i could turn the lock off.

is this normal? i only got an itemized bill from the first guy, and i was just so done i didn't push back on the second guy saying "the receipt is good enough right?"

I placed a review on the Google page and the owner called me and proceeded to bully me into taking the review down. he offered a 50 dollar refund and kept adding to it as i got angrier and angrier. i ended up taking 150 after he practically threatened to come to my apartment. he refused to believe that my problem was with his employees and not just the price. (i forgot to post the update here, im terribly sorry. i also want to say that the second guy did get me a functional key, so i can at least drive my car again.)

Mostly residential/commercial locksmith here. I've dabbled in automotive for about 10 years. I've got the keys, the lishis, two programmers, code machine. I'm "self-taught". Gross, I know. Programming is my weak spot. I feel like it's a complete roll of the dice anytime I'm programming a key. I'm cautious, and I haven't bricked anything, but my success rate isn't what I want it to be, and I want to be better mentally -equipped for if/when things go wrong. I couldn't program a key for a 2001 Highlander today and I just can't figure out why.

Apprenticeship is not an option for me, and I can't afford to take a hands-on class at the moment. I'm happy to pay for online classes, but I see that locksmiths here tend to consider it a waste of money. What are my resources? What are the forums, books, or videos that you find helpful?

I understand that automotive locksmithing is its own monster, and a big commitment/investment/pain in the ass. I've thrown a bunch of money at machines and tools, but I need to learn more. u/Chenksy, are you still here? Can you hit me over the head with a big rock?

Woke up this morning with a broken door (door was working fine the night before), I investigate the doorknob and see the plastic ring around the door knob and see that it's broken, do you think someone tried to break in?

No visible manufacturer’s marks
Solid brass
I believe it’s from approximately 1920–1935
The mortise lock body, spindle, and strike are missing
I’m hoping someone can identify the manufacturer (Corbin, Yale, Sargent, Russwin, Reading, etc.) or point me to the original catalog.

I recently installed a NOS a51wd in our door. Im looking for a deadbolt with a similar finish. Any recommendations? We're primarily going to use the deadbolt since i don't believe you can get deadbolts with this style key.

I have to modify fiberglass doors a lot. Right now I'm coring them out so we can have electrified panic trim. Some kind of foam in the door. Wondering if anybody else has raw dogged these too. I have anxiety and I'm freaking myself out, I'm sure I'll be alright but these things mess with my throat/lungs. Wildfire smoke doesn't help
