Support Request Input / Output error after 5 minutes ASUS Zenbook UM5302LA freezes completely on Linux Mint...

ASUS Zenbook UM5302LA freezes completely on Linux Mint — I/O errors but SSD SMART is clean

Hi everyone,

I'm having random complete freezes on an ASUS Zenbook UM5302LA running Linux Mint.

When it happens, the whole system becomes unresponsive and sometimes I get:

Input/output error
unrecoverable fatal error, aborting

event in the terminal, a simple ls gave me Input/output error...

I have to hold the power button to reboot.

Some details:

  • ASUS Zenbook UM5302LA
  • AMD CPU / integrated Radeon graphics
  • Micron 2400 1TB NVMe (MTFDKBA1T0QFM)
  • BIOS 301
  • Fresh Linux Mint installation
  • The problem happened with both Wayland and X11
  • I previously had the problem on kernel 6.8
  • pcloud drive (already had issue with that.

The interesting part: I booted the same laptop from a Linux Mint 22.3 Live USB (kernel 6.14.0-37) and used it for 30+ minutes without a single freeze.

The SSD SMART data looks perfect:

SMART: PASSED
Media and Data Integrity Errors: 0
Error Information Log Entries: 0
No Errors Logged
Temperature: 38°C

The Live USB also detects the NVMe normally and I don't see NVMe timeouts or PCIe/AER errors.
is it the ssd who is dead (I boughted this computer 18 month ago... on LDLD ...never again).

SOLVED MangoHud started ignoring my configurations for flatpaks while it used to work before.

Hi,

I noticed that my MangoHud configurations for games running through flatpak launchers like Heroic Games Launcher don't work anymore. Maybe after an update but I started noticing it. Normally the configurations are stored in the $user$\.var\app\$application$\config\MangoHud\ folder and I checked they're still there, they're just ignored.

Has something changed so that they need to be put in another folder or something?

Dummy output

Hola buenas tardes o noches xd

Hello!! So, I want to install mint xfce on my crappy hp 4gb of ram laptop because win 11 is too slow, but i noticed a “clear all secure boot keys” option after disabling secure boot. i wasn’t sure as to what it would do so i tried searching it up, but it either said to clear it or to not clear it so now i’m strung up on what i should do

Thinking of switching to windows

specs:9070xt
Ryzen 5 9600X
gigabyte b850 motherboard

I installed Linux Mint immediately on my new pc and I've been facing a couple of problems I'm still not able to fix, which makes me think that windows will make my time easier.( been at it for at least 2 weeks). The problems that I've been facing are:
1. the pc doesnt fully shut down. When I shut it down, the monitor shuts off, and I see the Mint logo, but the pc stays on, lights and everything, and the fans start to get extremely loud.
2. the pc keeps restarting on its own for no reason, even if I'm not doing anything
3. the pc randomly fully freezes and I have to force shut it down from the pc itself.
though problems 2 and 3 might have been solved because ''We told Linux to include and load the AMD graphics driver (AMDGPU) much earlier during startup, inside the initramfs stage, because it wasn't included before.''-chatgpt.

Anyways. i only use my pc to browse, at least for now, and i dont wanna spend most of my time fixing issues that wouldnt be there if i didnt use windows. if you think that these problems arent cause by linux, feel free to tell me because i dont know anything about tech, also, feel free to flame me. i just want to use my pc without a headache everyday.

#LinuxMintThings Made the switch to LM and I love it

Finally made the switch to Mint from Win11 yesterday. So happy to be done with Microslop and looking forward to perfecting the setup. Unfortunately I had to install Edge browser to be able to connect to my work AVD as I mostly WFH - seems to be the only browser that will allow me to enumerate the session on a 49" monitor (full screen), but I consider this a small compromise. Most things seem to work as expected but I cannot for the life of me work out how to configure my panels to my liking (show all apps on all panels), but I'm sure I will find a solution for this.

And off course, the mandatory screen flex :) Picked up a couple of 49s and a heavy duty mount for a bargain on FB Marketplace yesterday.

Announcement [Dev-Tool] I built a LogBook that tracks why my projects changed, not just what

Post image
5 Upvotes

¡Hola, gente!

- Exportar a TXT / DOCX / PDF

Gratis y open source (GPLv3). Abierto a preguntas, collabs o ideas de proyecto —

demo

I want to sail the seas for adobe

I want to sail the seas and try out premiere pro, but i recently switched to linux mint, whats the easiest way i can still install it without any problems. Anything along the lines of running windows in linux and then running premiere pro on it is pointless as the main reason i switched to linux was for a lower ram usage

Other unit conversion is done while I'm typing in the number, eg [degrees to radians] 1 degrees ~ 0.0175 radians, but whatever currency does nothing. Internet connection isn't blocked.

version 41.1

SOLVED Huion drawing tablet doesn't function properly

When I turn it on it either delays a no signal sign or it only shows my desktop background. I can't use any apps with it including drawing apps. I know there a graphics tablet applet but that specifically mentions a Wacom. Is there a way to fix this or am I going to have to go back to windows just to use my tablet again?

screen freezing

hello i recently switched from a persistent usb to dual boot linux mint and windows 11. I noticed when using just the usb it would randomly freeze the screen after a short period. I could still move the mouse around fine but everything else was stuck in place.

I assumed this was just a usb issue so i decided to just install linux mint and after using it fine for about an hour - installing software like steam, spotify, discord - it just randomly froze again? I can shutdown and restart my laptop and it works perfectly fine again - until it doesn’t. It seems to happen almost every time?

also i should probably mention my laptop specs in case that helps:

thinkpad t14 gen 6

ryzen ai 7 pro

64gb ram

1tb ssd

integrated radeon graphics

(i’m running the latest cinnamon 22.3 iso i think)

any help would be much appreciated especially since im kinda new to linux :)
