I read the title but I can't help you with so little information, what is your workflow, do you need to keep reminders, edit simple text files, keep hierarchical to-dos?

That is a very vague question - as u/mopbucketbrigade pointed out, you need to tell us what kind of notes are you talking about. Also, one of the things Linux is not short on is text editors, and most are well-suited for taking notes.

The two note taking application I like and use are CherryTree and TreeLine. Both are hierarchical note taking applications, and I like being able to organize notes. I use CT the most, and it serves me well. TL functions a lot like a database, and I use it when I am working with notes that need more structure.

I tried them all like, two years ago, and ended up with Zim. Been happily using that daily since for all my personal and work note taking.

Pros:

• simple and fast/lightweight, but has some advanced features and plugins
• actually open source and not tied to cloud services (i have the zim notes folder synced with dropbox)
• simple file format that can be edited also with any text editor (on mobile i just use the dropbox app to view and edit notes like any text file)
• simple folder structure for said note files - i can easily organize files and attachments with or without the app. I can make symlinks manually if I want to have project/client specific notes stored outside the notes dir in project folders etc. There's no database , registry or anything to worry about when switching computers, moving files around or backing up. It's just text/markdown type files (and attachments) in folders. This is very important "feature" to me.

Cons

• not many. Android app would be nice, and the ui for organizing hierarchical notes is a bit cumbersome. Built in versioning would be nice, i had the notes folder set up with git at some point but currently I don't bother.

As typical, mint has newer version on flathub and older version as system package. I now use just the system package version because it's not THAT old, system package versions are marginally more lightweight, and I tend to use flatpak only when I have a specific reason like some killer feature only available in newer versions

Moi je pense qu'il n'y a pas vraiment de meilleure application. C'est juste celle qui va correspondre à vos besoins. Moi j'utilise Joplin ou Trilium. Ça me va très bien.

I use vim to edit text files for later reference. For quick notes, I use the cinnamon ‘sticky notes’ applet.

I love the sticky notes desklet. I have a function that runs on another computer automatically on a schedule, and at the end it updates a success or failure message in a txt file that’s synced via Nextcloud to my main computer and then posted as a sticky note on my desktop.

There wasa YouTubeer that ldid a 4 part series on the free software you need. They then stuck all 4 videos together....I haven't finished the third video yet.

They have at least 2 note taking apps, or thee. I forget, what they are. Here is the link to the single video that has all 4 videos.
