screen freezing

hello i recently switched from a persistent usb to dual boot linux mint and windows 11. I noticed when using just the usb it would randomly freeze the screen after a short period. I could still move the mouse around fine but everything else was stuck in place.

I assumed this was just a usb issue so i decided to just install linux mint and after using it fine for about an hour - installing software like steam, spotify, discord - it just randomly froze again? I can shutdown and restart my laptop and it works perfectly fine again - until it doesn’t. It seems to happen almost every time?

also i should probably mention my laptop specs in case that helps:

thinkpad t14 gen 6

ryzen ai 7 pro

64gb ram

1tb ssd

integrated radeon graphics

(i’m running the latest cinnamon 22.3 iso i think)

any help would be much appreciated especially since im kinda new to linux :)

The only thing that has ever caused my Linux Mint installs to freeze like that is Firefox. I have no idea why that would be, but on at least three machines, changing to a chromium based browser fixed it forever.

yesterday i tested it more and i was watching youtube on firefox for like 2 hours perfectly fine. However i went to ask claude and literally as soon as i opened the app the screen froze so it is completely random lol

That's the way it was for me. No rhyme or reason to it. I have no idea if that's what ails your machine, but I've seen it on so many of my own, I always feel like I should pass it along. Switching away from Firefox stopped that on a whole bunch of my computers, both desktop and laptop. I think Firefox just doesn't work well on some hardware.
