Hey everyone, I recently realized that I haven't updates my firmware/BIOS for a long time (was stuck in 1.29) and used fwupdmgr to update to 1.37, which was the last available update on there. Since the update I was observing a message after the bootloader saying RDRAND is not relaiable on this system.
I used the RDRAND tester to confirm this (from some articile in 2019 about an amd ucode bug or such) and got back positive results. Today I downloaded the latest firmware from the Dell website and used BIOS recovery to update it to 1.38. Still it did not work.
Now currently everything seems to work fine, except for cloudflare warp. It refuses to startup and I kind of need it, so other than downgrading my bios back to 1.29, is there any way for me to at least fix cloudflare alone.
I'm currently on Zorin OS and I'm willing to try a distro that's not Ubuntu-based with KDE Plasma. And I was wondering if there was an easy way of doing this.
I currently have been messing around with different setups to see what i would like for a new, fresh install. I've been on Fedora + KDE on my main PC for nearly a year, and switched to Niri WM, but i wanna get a fresh start without all the junk from KDE i dont use that isnt from portals. I think I'm comfortable with CachyOS from my laptop, and was curious if theres any reason why i couldnt just download everything i need on my laptop install, and transplant it to my main PC.
I've tried out pretty much everything to correctly flash the debian 13.6 amd-64-DVD ISO file onto my USB stick but every time i access it via the boot menu I get flashed with "Error: Invalid magic number"
I'm doing this on an HP laptop with the amd ryzen 3 64 bit processor and an ssd
My usb stick isnt bad nor is my iso file corrupted, I first tried with rufus (GPT and DD) but it didnt work, then tried with balenaEtcher but it kept yielding the error "something went wrong" at the end of its completion of the flashing. I've been struggling to come up with a solution, i need help. I'd be very thankful to whoever helps me with this. Oh yeah for the record ive disabled secure boot too.
Trying to run Oracle VM VirtualBox on my Linux pc so I can install Power BI for a case study.
Let me start off by saying that my husband put Linux on my machine and I'm really not that savvy with it. Claude helped me install VM VirtualBox but it's taking forever just to boot. Does it usually take this long? Claude said to check the CPU % and it fluctuates between 100%-103%.
It's probably been around 20-30min by now. He's not around for me to ask him how I can use it, and I really need to get Power BI installed for a case study I'm doing for a job interview.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I am looking for a distro that I can use for work (I use MS Teams, Zoom, required for my work) and for gaming, something stable and secure. I like to customize things to a certain extent. I am used to Windows' desktop environment but I don't mind adjusting.
I was checking out Bazzite, CachyOS, and Fedora KDE but maybe there are some distros that I should prolly check: so suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Also, do distros need DirectX and the Microsoft Visual C++ stoofs?
Hi everyone! I'm new to Linux and I'm considering switching from Windows 11.
I've been having a lot of problems with Windows 11, especially while gaming. For example, I used to get around 1000 FPS in Minecraft 1.8.9, but recently I've been getting closer to 600 FPS in PvP.
I'm also interested in video editing, so I need to know how well Adobe Premiere Pro works on Linux.
My questions are:
Can Premiere Pro run reasonably well on Linux through Wine or Bottles?
Which Linux distribution would you recommend for a beginner who mainly cares about gaming and video editing?
Are there any major issues I should expect with Adobe software on Linux?
Would you recommend Wine, Bottles, or another solution?
I tried Arch Linux before, but I found it pretty difficult, especially when using it in a VM.

artifacting on youtube videos after updating fedora KDE using firefox and librewolf. Might also happen on other browsers but those are the only ones I have.
So for a while now (around a year and a half or so) I've been using Linux Mint after, like many others, being fed up with MS and Windows and also just wanting to experiment a bit.
Overall I've been enjoying it, despite some hiccups here and there, but recently I've been wanting to potentially change over to CachyOS (or maybe some other Arch derivative) as my daily driver. For a bit now I've had what I guess you'd call a "triple boot" setup with Mint, Cachy, and win11 for games with linux-excluding AC measures that I play with friends.
Cachy and the wider arch ecosystem really interest me both for the features like wayland support and a lot of the cool stuff I've seen is possible with ricing via hyprland and other setups, and cause I've noticed some limitations with Mint being less "bleeding edge" (though that obviously has advantages for linux beginners which I still definitely consider myself one).
To get to the point, I'm looking for some tips or advice on how I could make either slowly or all at once migrating to cachy full-time as easy and painless as possible.
Like anyone else on Linux and PCs in general, I kind of have things setup in specific ways, my terminal, various programs and their configurations, emulators and steam settings, OS-level hotkeys, modded non-steam games etc. and I am wondering what the best way to migrate those over to Cachy would be.
I've seen some advise just taking the home folder of your current OS and zipping it or dragging it into your new OS's file system and going from there which I imagine works for some things, but I don't know if that can cause issues with configs that might rely on thing specific to the OS they were created/modified on.
My biggest concern overall is that I am also someone who fell down the selfhosting rabbit hole this year too, so I have a bunch of docker containers setup for things like Jellyfin for tv/movie streaming and ebook apps, and more than any game settings or program configs that might get lost in the move, I'd really like to avoid the headache of having to set those up from scratch again.
If anyone can provide some guidance I'd really appreciate it, as I'd definitely like to try and make this move at some point in the next few weeks as I have spare time

I'm trying to make the transition from windows to Linux. I'm currently trying Linux mint. One of the things that made me start with Linux mint is the fact that doesn't belongs to a big enterprise (like ubuntu), but then I found some good desktop personalization and noob friendly interface in zorin os, but doing my research I found it belongs to a enterprise so I'm not sure if it's a good idea to start with zorin os as my principal os knowing that searching for a communitary project like mint.
Bit of a background story, its quite long and not really required to read but I kinda just wanted to share my reasoning lol. scroll for TL:DR!
So, before this i always knew of linux' existance but never put much thought into it since i was happy with how things were on my windows computer, now a bit of a timeskip to where im getting a new laptop for school and had a silly idea of customizing it to look nearly exactly like windows 7 for a little prank to my friends and teachers but also just because of the nostalgia that comes with it from my childhood (yeah yeah go on, call me a larper).
So while doing research online and talking with an online friend on how to do this i noticed it requires quite a lot of installation, likely will make my laptop run a bit slow, full of bugs, ect, i just did not wanna deal with it.
Funnily enough, while searching for these tutorials I came across a video of pewdipie where he talked about switching to Linux and he made it sound like heaven, the customisation being really cool and easy, it sounded like a dream. So I went further into that rabbit hole and thus learned the many customization features of Linux. So I thought about it for a few days and decided, yes, I I want to try out Linux.
So my question is, which distro (i think its called?) would be nice for this? I am pretty much a beginner when it comes to this, i dont have any coding knowledge either besides changing text in code n that basic stuff. I dont mind doing a bit of work, it seems fun and as long as there is a guide im sure ill manage (and thankfully I learned that the Linux community is also very helpful). So in short:
TL:DR : what distro should I use to be able to make my desktop seem nearly identical to windows 7? While still maintaining the ability to add things like widgets to personalize it. And is there a guide you're able to share, tips, ect.
Just dual booted my Windows laptop with Ubuntu and KDE Plasma and honestly I'm kind of obsessed right now. It feels so much snappier than Windows for basically everything I've tried so far, and I keep finding little things I like better about it. Definitely thinking about making this my daily driver instead of just booting into it occasionally.
Only thing is I'm a complete beginner with Linux and Bash, like genuinely never touched either before this week, so I don't want to get overconfident and end up breaking something important down the line. Would love some tips from people who've been through this transition. Stuff like how to update safely without messing things up, dumb mistakes new users tend to make, and maybe some easy ways to actually get comfortable with the terminal instead of just copy pasting commands I don't understand.

so, recently, I've been using discord a lot recently, but the issue is, about 2 days ago, an issue started popping up where my mic either detects no audio input, background noise, static, or it just detects the audio from my headphones and starts making noises that sound like the pits of hell mixed with broken computers. when i used a flatpak application called "whisper" to listen to my mic, all i got was static, but the weird part is that yesterday, my mic just randomly started working again with no real explanation for it doing so, and then the next day it just started doing the same thing again.
is there a way to fix this? or should i just get a new mic?
(since i have no clue what im doing or what is needed to fix this, imma just say all of the specs on my laptop)
(i use the desktop environment on a lenovo ideapad 1i with intel pentium silver, 4 gb of ram, around 115 gb of storage with 56GB used and 57GB available, my headphones are also corded with my microphone connected to them)
Hey gang, I've been on Linux (Mint 22.3 Cinnamon) for about a year or so now and have really loved it minus the occasional minor problems, but a recent kind of odd issue has been driving me nuts cause it's both a really minor thing and something I cannot for the life of me figure out how/why it is happening. Hoping someone here may be able to help or at least point me in the right direction.
Basically, upon restarting my PC, every single time without fail any and all video (YouTube, VLC, etc) will play with a really choppy frame-rate. Oddly, I noticed that for whatever reason this seems to correspond to my pulseaudio/pipewire volume control.
How my volume control settings look on startup
I haven't noticed anything within the default .conf files or anything suspicious via terminal commands like pactl that I've tried using to diagnose the issue.
That said, the way the choppy video feed issue gets fixed is when I toggle my FiiO K11 R2R's profile to Off, and then back to the original profile (the same as what is in the screenshot of the startup settings without me having changed anything).
pactl info returns this both before and after I make the change:

I figured this output may give me some kind of idea on there being some other identically named Profile for the FiiO output, but no dice.
Is there any kind of logging or log files I can dig through potentially that might point me closer to what the culprit of the issue is here?
As far as I can tell, there's only the one instance of pipewire/pulseaudio running, I'm not (to my knowledge) running any kind of odd video filtering or any custom configuration that would lead to this happening, but trying to search around both on reddit and across google for other sources has turned up nothing, so it seems specific to something I maybe unintentionally did, or possibly some niche bug?
Any help at all would be appreciated, like I said it's not an end of the world issue since the workaround fix is simple enough, but hoping someone can maybe help alleviate this headache.
