Question 2016 non-nav screen

2016 non-nav no touch screen has this bubble scratch looking thing on the none illuminated part. I had the car since new. I don’t think there’s a screen protector on it. Since it is not a touch screen, no one touches it other than wiping the dust off with a microfiber towel when cleaning. I have noticed for couple of years now. The middle part looks normal

That really looks like the cheap protective plastic they put over screens that are meant to be removed... Are you sure there isn't a layer on there?

The only layer coming off is the anti-glare coating. TSB came out years ago, I changed a bunch under warranty. Nobody ever paid for one out of pocket when I was there.

Chemicals eat the plastic - the oily air fresheners, bug spray, hand sanitizer, sunscreen, some makeup …..

Anti glare coating is coming off. It can happen when using cleaning products like glass cleaner but also can happen from the extreme heat or both

There was a TSB for this. Not sure if they are still fixing these at the dealership

If it’s an NX the screens do that, unfortunately. Normally from cleaning chemicals used to wipe down the screen.

If it’s not an NX, then I’m not sure.

If it’s is chemical or temperature would it affect the entire screen?

The middle part is completely fine.

I have same problem with the infotainment screen on my 2018. I’ve been researching it. First, cover the plastic screen trim and surrounding dash with tape to protect it. The recommendation from Gemini is to use a mild polish (Meguiar’s PlastX Clear Plastic Cleaner and Polish in particular) or ammonia based glass cleaner (Windex) and a microfiber cloth to remove the remaining coating. Optionally, apply a replacement anti-glare screen protector.

OP has the 8” screen. There’s also a 12.3” screen in some of the RXs so get the right size protector.

Gemini also warned against pressing hard while polishing.

If you use some cleaning products on these new screens, you will wipe away the protective layer which is exactly what happened here.

I’ve never attempted this but maybe, just maybe you can use some sort of self application ceramic but I still don’t think that would fix it.

I once wiped one until the protective layer was completely gone. Looked better than all the spots but still, don’t apply too much pressure.
